Joan Of Arc As A Leader Of Women
"Leader of Men"
The Renaissance Era brought about the desire for expansion, in terms of both territory and ideals.
Joan of Arc was a strong woman who stepped up and was able to restore the morale of France
during this era, after the French throne was taken over by the English. She dressed as a man and
took on roles that were dominantly held by men. Even when she knew she would be punished by
death for her behaviors she refused to change her ways. Joan of Arc was unlike any other women of
the time and refused to be oppressed. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in Lorraine to French
peasants. As a young girl Joan of Arc was often found doing housework or tending to her father's
flock. She was a very kind–hearted girl and would often put those in need before herself. Those who
knew her described her as a devout Christian. A man once said "I have heard it said by Messire
Guillaume Front, formerly the parish priest, that Joan was a good Catholic, that he had never met a
better and had non better in his parish" (Pernoud 18). This faithfulness to the church leads to Joan of
Arc announcing her call from God that Charles VII is the rightful heir to the french throne. France
was in need of morale boost and Joan of Arc gave them that. France would be under the control of
Henry V when Charles VII died, therefore disinheriting Charles VI's son, Charles VII. When Henry
V takes over the throne and dies soon after, he leaves a son who is never recognized as King because

Explain How Joan Of Arc Changed The Church During The...
This essay examines how Joan of Arc changed the church during the Middle Ages. Joan of Arc
otherwise called Saint Joan was born around 1412 in Dommerecy la Pucelle, France . She was a
peasant girl living in France trusting that God has chosen her to lead France to triumph in it's long
running war with England. Joan of Arc drove the fights and was nicknamed "The Maid of Orléans,".
Joan of Arc was viewed as history's most prominent holy people and a persevering image of French
solidarity and patriotism. The young French peasant girl's sympathy and commitment despite her in
the face of people were increased by her mystical relationship with God. A standout amongst the
most unique parts of Joan of Arc is sacredness was decisively this connection between mysterious
experience and political mission.
Toward the start of 1429, Joan started her work of liberation. The numerous witnesses demonstrate
to us this young lady who was just 17 years of age as an exceptionally solid and decided individual,
ready to persuade individuals who felt unreliable and disheartened. Overcoming all obstacles, she
met the Dauphin of France, the future King Charles VII, who subjected her to an examination in
Poitiers by a few scholars of the college. Their assessment was certain: they found in her nothing ...

Joan Of Arc Martyr
Joan of Arc, 1412– 1432, was a martyr, saint and military leader who led the French against the
English in the Hundred Years War at a young age. She grew up in a small town in France. Her
father, Jacques, and her mother, Isabelle taught her lots of things, but the most important of all was
that she was very religious. When Joan has been around twelve years old, she started having visions.
Once she saw Michael the Archangel, who told her that she had to lead the French in a battle against
the English, and then take the king to be crowned at Rheims. She continued to have visions and hear
voices until she turned sixteen, then she decided that it was time to listen to her visions and take
action.
Joan has been just a peasant farm girl, however, that didn`t matter, she was going to ask King
Charles of France for an army. She passed through a lot of people that only laughed at her, but she
never gives up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They said that it was enough to deserve death and announced her guilty. She was burned alive at the
stake with a cross on her hand, and her final words were that she forgave her accusers and asked
them to pray for her. She was only nineteen years old when she died. One legend surrounding the
event tells of how her heart survived the fire unaffected and how her ashes were gathered and
scattered in the Seine.
After Joan's death, the Hundred Years' War continued for another 22 years. King Charles VII
ultimately retained his crown, and he ordered an investigation that in 1456 declared Joan of Arc to
be officially innocent of all charges and designated a martyr. She was canonized as a saint on May
16, 1920, and is the patron saint of France. For all of us, she is an example of people, because of all
her values and attitudes; and we should take her as an example of never giving

Joan of Arc is known for many things. Her bravery in the siege of Orleans, her ability to hear
messages from god, her persistence and her leadership
Jeanne d'Arc was born in 1412 in northern France, the daughter of a peasant farmer. Joan was
illiterate which makes her achievements, both as a woman and as a peasant, even more remarkable.
At 12 years old Joan heard voices in her head and saw visions directing her to lead France to victory
against the English in the 100 Year War.

When she was 16 years old Joan travelled to Vaucouleurs, a stronghold of the Dauphin of France.

And she assumed control over the French army at the age of 17 and is considered one of the
youngest people in history to have commanded a national military army force.

Charles equipped Joan with a small army, and on April 27, 1429, she set out for Orleans, besieged
by the English since October 1428. Joan led the attack on Orleans. She used many strategies to free
Orleans of the English like using a French sortie to distract the English troops on the west side of the
castle, Joan entered unopposed by its eastern gate. She brought greatly needed supplies and
reinforcements and inspired the French to a passionate resistance.
She personally led the charge in several raids and the French won the day on May the 8th, the
English retreated from Orleans and after a fierce and decisive battle France was victorious.
Joan of Arc achieved so much as she led many other successful attacks on the English. Even though
Joan of Arc never killed anyone she encouraged the soldiers and became a military strategist leading
the troops to flank and attack the enemy unaware. She became a mascot of power and

France was in conflict with England. This encounter was better known as The Hundred Years' War.
The Hundred Years ' War was a series of conflicts which took place from 1337 to 1453 by the House
of Plantagenet, rulers of the Kingdom of England, against the House of Valois, rulers of the
Kingdom of France, for control of the Kingdom of France. Both of Joan's parents were farmers, she
was not taught to read or write, but her god–loving mother instilled in her a deep love for the
Catholic Church and its teachings which is what played a role in Joan being known as the heroine of
France by playing a very significant role in the Hundred Years' War. She received visions from St
Michael and from God regarding the war in which she promised Charles, who was heir to the throne
at the time, that she would give him his rightful seat on the throne. At the time there were false
accusations that Charles was not supposed to be King, so Henry V was king over both England and
France. In 1429 Joan convinced Charles, the Dauphin (heir to the crown) to send her to the battles,
saying she had received visions from God telling her to drive out the English. Joan brought an
inspiring spirit to the battle that increased the soldiers' morale to take the battle

Beyond The Myth By Joan Of Arc Summary
Sophia Beverly The book I have read is Beyond the Myth: The Story of Joan of Arc by Polly
Schoyer Brooks. The book follows Joan on her mission to crown Charles the Dauphin, king and
save France. Joan is considered one of France´s most popular heroine and even a saint. She was
from a village called Domremy that was attacked frequently by violence and raids from England.
She was very focused on her religion, some may say too religious, and prayed frequently to saint
statues. Joan lived on a farm and worked like all the others in her village. The book pointed out that
Joan was what many would consider special because she believed that she had seen and heard
saints. She believed that St. Michael was her first spiritual experience, but her revelations continued
to become more vivid and frequent, as her life continued. She was convinced they came from God.
People either thought she was special because she heard voices from god or because they thought
she was mentally ill. Joan had realized that her voices were telling her that she was chosen by God
to rescue Dauphin Charles and the country of France. Joan was directed to a town called
Vaucouleurs to get help from the governor and prepare to rescue Orleans and the Dauphin. As the
book describes, Joan ran away to Vaucouleurs. Somehow, she had talked relatives into taking her to
the governor who wasn't thrilled to speak to Joan. When she told the governor of her mission and
about her God, he laughed in her face. After a while,

Significance Of Joan Of Arc
1. Introduction– 500
For more than a hundred years, the Kingdom of England and the House of Valois of France found
themselves locked in war for the French throne. The hundred and sixteen year series of battles took
place from 1337 to 1453, with historians often separating it into three phases: the Edwardian Era
(1337– 1360), the Caroline War (1369– 1389), and the Lancastrian War (1415– 1453). Despite
English success that lasted the majority of the conflict, and was revived by Henry V, the war resulted
a French victory but high casualty losses on both sides. Beyond this, the war was not only limited to
the two belligerents, but also involved Scotland, Spain, and the Low Countries, such as Belgium, the
Netherlands, and Luxembourg (Villalon). The French victory and resurgence are mostly accredited
to the arrival of Joan of Arc and, subsequently, the unity of the French after her execution by the
English. Despite this, the question of the significance of Joan of Arc in the context of ending the

For example, it featured rapid military innovation. Over the course of the war, weapons, the
structure of an army, military tactics, and the very meaning of a war all changed (Curry). In
addition, the war left both England and France with a changed meaning of their setting. France, after
being divided for years, was finally once again united and shared nationalistic sentiment that had
been lacking prior to and during the course of the war (Curry). Meanwhile, the English found
themselves losing almost all of their land outside of their island territory. Thus, this awakened their
need to develop a navy, which would be one of the most notable parts of the British Empire in their
future (Villalon). Therefore, the Hundred Years War has found itself a pivotal place in history and
worthy of study, thus bringing into question the true cause of the end of the

Introduction
Joan of Arc was born in XXXX in the French town of Domrémy. Her family was well–off farmers.
From a young age, Joan was a devout Christian. At the age of 13, Joan reported she received her
divine mission where she saw a bright light and heard the voice of God commanding her she would
lift the siege of Orleans and she must go to Robert de Baudricourt for an escort. She claimed to be
visited by Saint Michael, Saint Catherine, and Saint Margaret, who gave her advice on how to
proceed in her divine mission. Around the time of her birth, France was in despair. Before Joan of
Arc's campaign, the French had lost several major battles to the English including the annihilation of
the French army at Agincourt with a loss of 10,000 French soldiers. France had also been devastated
by the Black plague from 1348 to 1349 resulting in the halt of the war for nearly a decade and a
significantly reduced army. After multiple losses, morale was low and ... Show more content on

She had convinved her mother's cousin to take her meet with Baudicourt, but refused her to the
Dauphin during the first visit. Joan's village, Domrémy, was attacked by Burgundians in July 1428
and villagers had to flee to a neighboring village including Joan and her family. After the attack,
Baudicourt agreed to meet with Joan again in February 1429 and he greed to take her to the
Dauphin, gifting her a horse and a sword. She was accompanied by a small military contingent
including four knights of Baudicourt's that remained with Joan through most of her military career.
On 6 March 1429, Joan was given an audience with the Dauphin where she had picked him out of a

After ending a war that had lasted for over a century, the young French hero, Joan of Arc, was tried
and executed by the English for heresy when she was only nineteen. Growing up as a peasant in
Pucelle, France, she heard voices which she thought to be the voice of God. Later she was told by
these voices to fight for the French, and ended up playing a major role in the Hundred Years War
between France and England. She led an army to liberate the city of Orleans and won over Patay,
which allowed Charles VII to be crowned King of France. Nearing the end of the war, she was

According to the Judges, Joan of Arc was taken to trial because she "has dressed and armed herself
in the state and habit of man, has wrought and occasioned cruel murders, and it is said, to seduce
and deceive the simple people". This was later summarized in the 12 articles, which summed up the
major reasons for putting Joan on trial. An important point was Joan's choice of men's clothing she
wore to battle, being considered a crime against the church. They also claimed the voices she heard
were spoken from the devil. The trial ended in 1431 with her abjuration, whereby she signed a paper
to recant her sins and forswear men's clothes, and in return was promised by the bishop that she
would be put in a safer prison of the Catholic church with a female guard, and would not be burned
if she signed it. After consenting to the agreement, Joan never got her end of the deal. While wearing
women's clothes, Joan was raped by the guards. Mens clothes were given to her, without her request,
and in fear that she would be assaulted in a dress, she put on men's clothes, therefore going back on
her part of the agreement. A second trial was set and she was found guilty and burned at the

Joan of Arc, nicknamed "The Maid of Orleans" had an action–packed, worthy, and devastating life.
Joan of Arc was born into a country in political chaos. In 1415, King Henry V of England invaded
northern France. The English were defeated by France and gained help from the Burgundians in
France. In 1420 the Treaty of Troyes granted Henry V to the French throne, taking control from the
demented King Charles VI. After Charles' death Henry would inherit his throne. However, this plan
didn't work because Henry and Charles died within a couple of months of each other. This left
Henry's infant son to inherit both realms. French supporters of the soon to be Charles VII sensed an

When Joan was born, France was in a long war between England. The war is known as the "
Hundred Years' War." While Joan was young, she never was far from home and was poor. She took
care of the animals and became a skilled seamstress. During the time of political upheaval, Joan
started to have visions pushing her to lead a devoted, religious life. Over time the visions became
more clear, with St. Catherine and St. Michael titling her the savior of France encouraging her to
have an audience with Charles. While Charles had the label dauphin(heir to the throne). Her vision
also involved her asking Charles to band England and make him rightful king. In May 1428 Joan's
visions told her to Vaucouleurs and contact Robert de Baudricourt. Baudricourt is the garrison
commander and supporter of charles. At first charles relented to talk to Joan but, once Baudricourt
saw that the villagers were approving Joan he sent transportation as well as escorts to Joan. Soon
Charles gave the 17–year–old Joan armor and a horse and a chance to accompany the army to
Orléans, which at the time was an England siege. Joan kept advising him to be crowned King
sooner, but Charles and his advisers were cautious. On July 18, 1429 Charles VII was crowned king

What Are Joan Of Arc's Accomplishments
3. Accomplishment:
Joan of Arc has several achievements. Her first accomplishment was with her confidence and moral
leadership that raised the fighting spirit and determination in the French soldiers to defeat the
English in the Battle of Orleans by having them retreat from their forts, such as St. Loup and the
Tourelles, surrounding Orleans. It's even more remarkable as for the past seven months before Joan
arrived at the battlefield, the French and English were head to head on the siege of Orleans, with the
French more likely to lose than the English, who had forts and their blockage and control of most
gates and routes connecting Orleans to the rest of France. However, once Joan arrived at Orleans for
three days, with her help, the French ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, during the battle of Orleans, Joan was sent with an advanced French scouting party to
observe and mapped an English fort, which was an Augustinian monastery. The fort was well
guarded by a giant English soldier alongside with countless other. "But Joan rode into the melee,
shouting, 'Let us go boldly in the name of the Lord'" (Brooks 63). This resulted in the French
forcefully overcoming the English as one soldier was able to trip the giant English soldier with a
small cannon. The English soon retreated, which not only allowed the French time to scout the area
but to reclaim it and use its occupying supplies as well, due to Joan's boldness and suggestion to
never giving up. In addition, throughout Joan's trial of being a witch, Joan declared she was a good
Catholic and in favor of God, and implied that she would never stop wearing men's clothes unless
she, herself, would want to, as they proved she helped France and also, from disconnecting with her
voice, who helped her countless times, were of her saints, and from God. When given the choice to
submit to the Church before her punishment of being burned at the stake, she accepted, and due to
the fear of adrenaline of the fire, unbeknownst to her, signed a contract to renounce her voices and
stop wearing men's clothes. Days later, she wore men's clothes, finding them more comfortable to
wear around the male guards, and she was talking to her voices once again. She boldly accepted her
death, prayed, and was burned at the stake. This shows that the advice Joan of Arc would give is to
never give up no matter what because she never gave up wearing men's clothes against her own free
will and talking to her voices, even when she was put to death in one of the cruelest executions of
being publicly burned on a stake, and dishonored by the Church, the representation of the Lord that
she respected, as a heretic and a witch. In conclusion, to

Joan of Arc was born in the city of Domremy, France in 1412, in the middle of the Hundred Years
War. She claimed that Saints, such as Saint Catherine and Saint Margaret, started speaking to her at
the age of 10 and guided her through her journey. They told her to go to Chinon and to crown the
Dauphin, Charles. She secretly snuck in a carige which knights carried with sheep and cattle to
hopefully get to Chinon, but the carige lead to Sir Robert's city. Even though Joan asked many

Charles agreed and Joan's army defeated Orleans by setting the city inside on fire, forcing them to

Joan Of Arc Analysis
Joan of Arc is portrayed as a woman who came out of nowhere to help the French win the Hundred
Years' War with the words of God powering her. Joan was even considered a gift from God although
there were priestly men that thought Joan was a fake which later contributed to her devastating death
at the hands of the English. Joan became a powerful woman when the visions led her to the holy
mission of saving France while using her intellect and sharp tongue when the time called for it. The
eccentric tendencies of Joan is what led to her ultimate downfall. Joan accepted the role of saving
France that was believed to be from god that was sent for her to fulfill. The visions had a plan that
was something only Joan could do and that would help the France. Joan had a light bulb moment at
"the siege of Orléans that triggered knowledge of her mission... From that moment Jeanne's spiritual
way was closely related to the politics of her land and time"[1] Joan decided that God spoke to her
through the angels and that if God proclaimed it then it would be done. The trip to the Dauphin of
France, and having to prove to the Dauphin that Joan was not a silly peasant girl by having
successes in battle. The tactical mind of Joan brought many victories that were allowed. The
contribution of the visions that showed Joan the role that would be played is that the tide of the 100–
year war was changing in favor of the French and the changing of gender roles started by Joan. The

The Messenger: The Story Of Joan Of Arc
Messenger: The Story Of Joan Of Arc Review The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc is a
historical film directed by Luc Besson, starring Milla Jovovich as Joan, John Malkovich as Charles
VII, Faye Dunaway as Yolande of Aragon, and Dustin Hoffman as The Conscience. It was released
on October 18, 1999, portraying France from 1420 to 1431. Firstly, Joan (pronounced Jeanne in
French), has visions as a child. Several years later, she arrives in Chinon, France, to speak with
Charles, the Dauphin, about driving out the English. Joan then leads an attack and defeats the
English at their stronghold "Tourelles". The second day, Joan leads another attack. As both sides
regroup, she tells the English to leave, which, surprisingly, they do. The Burgundians then take her
prisoner and charge her with the crime of heresy. Her conscience then makes here question whether
or not her visions were actually from God. Convinced, the Burgundians then charge her of
witchcraft, and she is burned at the stake. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Milla Jovovich is a horrendous actress, and poorly depicts Joan with the three emotions she
possesses and the same scared, hyperventilating face shown throughout. Viewers cannot grasp the
fact that Joan is mentally ill from the atrocious acting job. Charles VII was the Dauphin, not yet king
while Joan was fighting. Accurately portrayed, John Malkovich did his job well. La Hire was a
military leader, but the movie does not highlight the fact that Joan is a close comrade of his, so the
portrayal was halfway there. Richard Ridings did what he was supposed to

The Five Phases Of The Hundred Years War
A big name for a group of conflicts that were fought in an 116 year time period is the Hundred Years
War (New World Encyclopedia). From 1337–1453, England and France both struggled in battle over
the succession to the French Throne (Wheeler). This war has five phases it can be divided into
(Naval Academy). Many decades consisted of England dominating France and then it went back and
forth. The nation that was winning would always change throughout the series of wars (Wheeler).
The result of the Hundred Years' War remained inconclusive since France and England leaders were
prepared for different phases of the war, were skilled in battle, and were victorious in different
battles against their enemies. Although it may seem that one particular ... Show more content on

The wars were declared by kings and not so much between nations or royal families (New World
Encyclopedia). The Duchy of Gascony was one source of friction while another cause was the
establishment of strong alliance by the Flanders (Calgary). Both practical and constitutional aspects
were there to dispute over Gueyenne/Gascony (Naval Academy). Claims of the French crown by
England was not as much a cause of the war than a founded justification for it. Once King Charles
IV died, the succession of the French throne was left confused to everyone. The thought of an attack
by the French and the Scottish from the north and the south of England concerned Edward III in
1335–1336. After being driven out in 1334 by Edward III, Philip VI gave refuge to King David.

"I do not fear the soldiers, for my road is made open to me; and if the soldiers come, I have God, my
Lord, who will know how to clear the route that leads to messire the Dauphin. It was for this that I
was born!" These are the words that Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid Of Orléans exclaimed to a
woman while traveling to Chinon to talk to the king–to–be Charles VII at about 16 years of age.
Joan of Arc was born around 1412 in Domrémy, northeastern France to a father named Jacques
d'Arc and Isabelle Romée. Joan was a shepherdess and looked after the sheep, but she preferred
household jobs and chores. During this time, the Hundred Years' War was raging. In 1415, King

Henry V Trojan War Essay
The Treaty of Troyes was signed in Troyes on the 21st of May, 1420. The treaty between Henry V
and Charles VI discussed the agreement that Henry and his heirs would inherit the throne of France
upon the death of Charles VI (of France). The treaty was passed through and approved by a judicial
body. It should be noted that although it was the French parliament that approved the document,
they did not carve up the kingdom (at the very least not on paper). The Treaty of Troyes is often
considered one of the most important treaties of the Hundred Years War. It acts as a sort of backdrop
to the end portion of the war. France and England, around the point of the signing of the treaty, were

He fought and won many military battles, and he gained the French throne for his son's inheritance.
An important point is made by Richardson that had the Treaty of Troyes worked, "the United
Kingdom would have been England and France, rather than England and Scotland". Henry was a
great ruler, but he left behind the government in a great debt, most likely due to the expenses of war.
It is notable that not even the revenue from the conquered territories could pay off this debt, because
of the constancy of battle, raids and such. The Treaty of Troyes was one of France's biggest
mistakes. In "War, government and power in late Medieval France" it is mentioned that, "the notion
of state is dependant on binary opposition" Binary opposition is related terms or concepts that are
opposite in meaning . Furthermore, Binary opposition is the system in which languages and thoughts
as opposite are set against one another . This could easily be said of English and French. The two
countries were complete opposites in most aspects of life (culture, language, law, etc.), but put them
together and they form a state. Specifically, a state that had it's ups and down, but was revolutionary
. The treaty of Troyes was never formally revoked . The English Remained Kings of France until the

Joan Of Arc As A Saint
From Stake to Saint Medieval knights are known for being strong, brave, and faithful. However, a
well–known warrior in the Hundred Years' War also shares these attributes. What makes her
different is that she was a French peasant girl. At the age of 13, Joan of Arc heard voices from God
telling her to save France. In the midst of the Hundred Years' War, a conflict between England and
France for the French throne, Joan was told to drive the English out of France, and see that Charles
VII receive the crown. As a devout Catholic, Joan was going to make sure this happened. Joan's
courage and determination let her accomplish her task. Even in her darkest times, she stayed strong
and faithful. She inspires people to this day, and left a legacy. Even though she was burned at the
stake after being accused of witchcraft, she is remembered as a saint and a hero. Joan of Arc's many
achievements in battle and her legacy in French history lived on for her to become a saint centuries
later. Joan of Arc started her journey to becoming a saint in 1428, when she felt that heavenly voices
spoke to her (Beck 360). The voices informed her that Charles VII was the true king of France, and
needed to get the crown. He was called Dauphin, or rightful heir. Joan seeked an audience with him,

Joan of Arc was a military leader and a warrior. She acted under the divine guidance of God. She
was a national heroine at the age of only eighteen ("Joan of Arc"1). AT the age of only eighteen,
Joan led the French at Orléans to victory. At the time of Joan of Arc's birth the French in the English

In 1412 Joan of Arc was born. She was born in the Vosges region of eastern France in a village

frozen, naked and ashamed, and constantly taunted by Belial, the demon of guilt. Their regret

brought me to the doors of the cathedral, where the heat was almost unbearable. "Inside?!" I asked,
with a surprise as she flung open the doors with a wave of her hand. Inside, fires raged with even
more passion and I saw, to my surprise, thousands upon thousands of pyres, and damned souls tied
to stakes above them, naked and beaten to almost beyond recognition. But what truly struck me was
the noise– there had been such silence for so long, and now, the cries of anguish and pain nearly

Joan Of Arc As A Leader Of Women

  • 1. Joan Of Arc As A Leader Of Women "Leader of Men" The Renaissance Era brought about the desire for expansion, in terms of both territory and ideals. Joan of Arc was a strong woman who stepped up and was able to restore the morale of France during this era, after the French throne was taken over by the English. She dressed as a man and took on roles that were dominantly held by men. Even when she knew she would be punished by death for her behaviors she refused to change her ways. Joan of Arc was unlike any other women of the time and refused to be oppressed. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in Lorraine to French peasants. As a young girl Joan of Arc was often found doing housework or tending to her father's flock. She was a very kind–hearted girl and would often put those in need before herself. Those who knew her described her as a devout Christian. A man once said "I have heard it said by Messire Guillaume Front, formerly the parish priest, that Joan was a good Catholic, that he had never met a better and had non better in his parish" (Pernoud 18). This faithfulness to the church leads to Joan of Arc announcing her call from God that Charles VII is the rightful heir to the french throne. France was in need of morale boost and Joan of Arc gave them that. France would be under the control of Henry V when Charles VII died, therefore disinheriting Charles VI's son, Charles VII. When Henry V takes over the throne and dies soon after, he leaves a son who is never recognized as King because he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Joan Of Arc, By Jeanne D ' Arc Contents Introduction 1 Body 3 Conclusion 7 References 8 Introduction Jeanne d'Arc, better known as Joan of Arc, was born on the 6th of January in Domremy, which is a village in France. At the time France was in conflict with England. This encounter was better known as The Hundred Years' War. The Hundred Years ' War was a series of conflicts which took place from 1337 to 1453 by the House of Plantagenet, rulers of the Kingdom of England, against the House of Valois, rulers of the Kingdom of France, for control of the Kingdom of France. Both of Joan's parents were farmers, she was not taught to read or write, but her god–loving mother instilled in her a deep love for the Catholic Church and its teachings which is what played a role in Joan being known as the heroine of France by playing a very significant role in the Hundred Years' War. She received visions from St Michael and from God regarding the war in which she promised Charles, who was heir to the throne at the time, that she would give him his rightful seat on the throne. At the time there were false accusations that Charles was not supposed to be King, so Henry V was king over both England and France. In 1429 Joan convinced Charles, the Dauphin (heir to the crown) to send her to the battles, saying she had received visions from God telling her to drive out the English. Joan brought an inspiring spirit to the battle that increased the soldiers' morale to take the battle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Beyond The Myth By Joan Of Arc Summary Sophia Beverly The book I have read is Beyond the Myth: The Story of Joan of Arc by Polly Schoyer Brooks. The book follows Joan on her mission to crown Charles the Dauphin, king and save France. Joan is considered one of France´s most popular heroine and even a saint. She was from a village called Domremy that was attacked frequently by violence and raids from England. She was very focused on her religion, some may say too religious, and prayed frequently to saint statues. Joan lived on a farm and worked like all the others in her village. The book pointed out that Joan was what many would consider special because she believed that she had seen and heard saints. She believed that St. Michael was her first spiritual experience, but her revelations continued to become more vivid and frequent, as her life continued. She was convinced they came from God. People either thought she was special because she heard voices from god or because they thought she was mentally ill. Joan had realized that her voices were telling her that she was chosen by God to rescue Dauphin Charles and the country of France. Joan was directed to a town called Vaucouleurs to get help from the governor and prepare to rescue Orleans and the Dauphin. As the book describes, Joan ran away to Vaucouleurs. Somehow, she had talked relatives into taking her to the governor who wasn't thrilled to speak to Joan. When she told the governor of her mission and about her God, he laughed in her face. • 17. Significance Of Joan Of Arc 1. Introduction– 500 For more than a hundred years, the Kingdom of England and the House of Valois of France found themselves locked in war for the French throne. The hundred and sixteen year series of battles took place from 1337 to 1453, with historians often separating it into three phases: the Edwardian Era (1337– 1360), the Caroline War (1369– 1389), and the Lancastrian War (1415– 1453). Despite English success that lasted the majority of the conflict, and was revived by Henry V, the war resulted a French victory but high casualty losses on both sides. Beyond this, the war was not only limited to the two belligerents, but also involved Scotland, Spain, and the Low Countries, such as Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg (Villalon). The French victory and resurgence are mostly accredited to the arrival of Joan of Arc and, subsequently, the unity of the French after her execution by the English. Despite this, the question of the significance of Joan of Arc in the context of ending the Hundred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, it featured rapid military innovation. Over the course of the war, weapons, the structure of an army, military tactics, and the very meaning of a war all changed (Curry). In addition, the war left both England and France with a changed meaning of their setting. France, after being divided for years, was finally once again united and shared nationalistic sentiment that had been lacking prior to and during the course of the war (Curry). Meanwhile, the English found themselves losing almost all of their land outside of their island territory. Thus, this awakened their need to develop a navy, which would be one of the most notable parts of the British Empire in their future (Villalon). Therefore, the Hundred Years War has found itself a pivotal place in history and worthy of study, thus bringing into question the true cause of the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the Judges, Joan of Arc was taken to trial because she "has dressed and armed herself in the state and habit of man, has wrought and occasioned cruel murders, and it is said, to seduce and deceive the simple people". This was later summarized in the 12 articles, which summed up the major reasons for putting Joan on trial. An important point was Joan's choice of men's clothing she wore to battle, being considered a crime against the church. They also claimed the voices she heard were spoken from the devil. The trial ended in 1431 with her abjuration, whereby she signed a paper to recant her sins and forswear men's clothes, and in return was promised by the bishop that she would be put in a safer prison of the Catholic church with a female guard, and would not be burned if she signed it. After consenting to the agreement, Joan never got her end of the deal. While wearing women's clothes, Joan was raped by the guards. Mens clothes were given to her, without her request, and in fear that she would be assaulted in a dress, she put on men's clothes, therefore going back on her part of the agreement. • 27. What Are Joan Of Arc's Accomplishments 3. Accomplishment: Joan of Arc has several achievements. Her first accomplishment was with her confidence and moral leadership that raised the fighting spirit and determination in the French soldiers to defeat the English in the Battle of Orleans by having them retreat from their forts, such as St. Loup and the Tourelles, surrounding Orleans. It's even more remarkable as for the past seven months before Joan arrived at the battlefield, the French and English were head to head on the siege of Orleans, with the French more likely to lose than the English, who had forts and their blockage and control of most gates and routes connecting Orleans to the rest of France. However, once Joan arrived at Orleans for three days, with her help, the French ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, during the battle of Orleans, Joan was sent with an advanced French scouting party to observe and mapped an English fort, which was an Augustinian monastery. The fort was well guarded by a giant English soldier alongside with countless other. "But Joan rode into the melee, shouting, 'Let us go boldly in the name of the Lord'" (Brooks 63). This resulted in the French forcefully overcoming the English as one soldier was able to trip the giant English soldier with a small cannon. The English soon retreated, which not only allowed the French time to scout the area but to reclaim it and use its occupying supplies as well, due to Joan's boldness and suggestion to never giving up. In addition, throughout Joan's trial of being a witch, Joan declared she was a good Catholic and in favor of God, and implied that she would never stop wearing men's clothes unless she, herself, would want to, as they proved she helped France and also, from disconnecting with her voice, who helped her countless times, were of her saints, and from God. When given the choice to submit to the Church before her punishment of being burned at the stake, she accepted, and due to the fear of adrenaline of the fire, unbeknownst to her, signed a contract to renounce her voices and stop wearing men's clothes. Days later, she wore men's clothes, finding them more comfortable to wear around the male guards, and she was talking to her voices once again. She boldly accepted her death, prayed, and was burned at the stake. This shows that the advice Joan of Arc would give is to never give up no matter what because she never gave up wearing men's clothes against her own free will and talking to her voices, even when she was put to death in one of the cruelest executions of being publicly burned on a stake, and dishonored by the Church, the representation of the Lord that she respected, as a heretic and a witch. Joan of Arc was born into a farming family in Domremy, France in 1412. The town of Domrery at this time was the last town in the east still loyal to Charles VII during the Hundred Year War. She was one of five children, Pierre, Jacquemin, Catherine and Jean. Being the youngest, her family recalls her as energetic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joan went to Robert de Baudricrot, a captain of the Vaucouleurs, (a small town near Domremy) and asked for an escort to Charles VII, who was in Chinon. The third time she approached the captain he finally granted her an escort. She began her journey in February 1429 and arrived in Chinon 11 days later. The king disguised himself to test Joan when first presented with her. Joan identified him right away, and Charles assumed that because of this she had supernatural power. Her "Supernatural Power" got her a spot as captain of one of the kings troops. This troop, with Joan's leadership removed one of the immediate threats to the king and gave him his first military win since his reign began. Not only did this give the country new hope, but also if this battle had been lost, the French could have lost the war. A month after Joan's victory, England was defeated. The Hundred Year War had come to an end. Even so, France struggled with internal and civil conflicts for years, and Joan's leadership and guidance with the king of France unified the ... • 59. Henry V Trojan War Essay The Treaty of Troyes was signed in Troyes on the 21st of May, 1420. The treaty between Henry V and Charles VI discussed the agreement that Henry and his heirs would inherit the throne of France upon the death of Charles VI (of France). The treaty was passed through and approved by a judicial body. It should be noted that although it was the French parliament that approved the document, they did not carve up the kingdom (at the very least not on paper). The Treaty of Troyes is often considered one of the most important treaties of the Hundred Years War. It acts as a sort of backdrop to the end portion of the war. France and England, around the point of the signing of the treaty, were in the middle of nearly constant warfare that had lasted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He fought and won many military battles, and he gained the French throne for his son's inheritance. An important point is made by Richardson that had the Treaty of Troyes worked, "the United Kingdom would have been England and France, rather than England and Scotland". Henry was a great ruler, but he left behind the government in a great debt, most likely due to the expenses of war. It is notable that not even the revenue from the conquered territories could pay off this debt, because of the constancy of battle, raids and such. The Treaty of Troyes was one of France's biggest mistakes. In "War, government and power in late Medieval France" it is mentioned that, "the notion of state is dependant on binary opposition" Binary opposition is related terms or concepts that are opposite in meaning . Furthermore, Binary opposition is the system in which languages and thoughts as opposite are set against one another . This could easily be said of English and French. The two countries were complete opposites in most aspects of life (culture, language, law, etc.), but put them together and they form a state. Specifically, a state that had it's ups and down, but was revolutionary . The treaty of Troyes was never formally revoked . The English Remained Kings of France until the Treaty of Amiens with Napoleon when it was finally abandoned. It certainly left a mark on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Essay On The Hundred Years War One of the longest conflicts in the history of warfare, the Hundred Years' War was a time that defined history for both England and France. The war lasted from 1337 until 1453 passing over one hundred years and reaching a total of one hundred and sixteen years. It began in May 1337 when King Philip VI of France tried to confiscate English territories located in Southwestern France and it then ended in July 1453 when the French finally expelled the English from the continent. Like many other wars, it did not achieve anything except for destruction, disorder, and the misery of the common people living in these events, though it marked the start of early modern times for England and France. • 77. Joan Of Arc Monologue As I walked among the frozen souls, the silence that surrounded them was deafening. My guide, Joan of Arc fell silent for once in her life, for it was her inspiring words that led to victories for France in the Hundred Years War. Though now honored among the archangels, Joan chose to lead souls through the depths of the Inferno to reach Paradiso and continue her life's work to inspire others. And now she lead me through the 9th circle of hell, into the farthest edges of the cavern where I could no longer seeing front of me. Before I could turn to Joan and ask her where we were going, she shoved me from behind and I plunged headfirst, falling down, down, into the darkness, eventually landing at the bottom of a pit. Silence, and then, Joan materialized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Who lies on the other sides?" I asked. "Those are the priests who defiled the name of God" replied Joan. "Those who raped those who they taught and took funds from the poor for their own selfish greed, who turned away the starving and yet adorned their churches in gold. They are eternally frozen, naked and ashamed, and constantly taunted by Belial, the demon of guilt. Their regret overwhelms them and eats them alive– literally. But no matter." and my Guide grabbed my hand and brought me to the doors of the cathedral, where the heat was almost unbearable. "Inside?!" I asked, with a surprise as she flung open the doors with a wave of her hand. Inside, fires raged with even more passion and I saw, to my surprise, thousands upon thousands of pyres, and damned souls tied to stakes above them, naked and beaten to almost beyond recognition. But what truly struck me was the noise– there had been such silence for so long, and now, the cries of anguish and pain nearly broke my heart. I turned away, and Joan led me to a twisting staircase, and we began climbing and climbing, up and up the spire. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
