Example Of A Ukudragona
When using metaphors, Dance Boys are usually braggers or show offs, which they describe as
ukudragona 'boasting.' Stich explains the word ukudragona is about a fire–breathing dragon. For
Dance Boys, dragon fire is the ability to boast about oneself, especially one's socioeconomic status.
The first example shows this type of boasting when Themba, Pano and Sibusiso use skinny jeans to
talk about physical differences within the group. The example here draws to attention the
interrelated role of space (the township setting), language practice (tsotsitaal) and objects (skinny
jeans), that is to say the "language resources that people bring with them from their life trajectories
and the linguistic resources that are available to them" (Pennycook

The Comparison Of Teenage Slang
One popular trend that American adults notice is the use and variety of teenage slang. The teenage
slang trend had existed for a while, but with every new generation, words are being added on the
list. Often time on the news adults try to help parents decode the teen's language to understand what
their children are saying in text, the internet, and even in person. Teenage slag is a unique language
that we teens use to relate to each other. The slag is an important cultural value, because social
media had caused it to expand to not only the United States, but also teens all over the world are
using the slang to put more emphasis into what they are saying. The slang that we use helps the
younger generation to bond and relate to each other in text as well as in person. Teenage slang adds
to the American cultural values because it shows that as Americans we can be private and informal.
As Americans, we tend to value some things differently than other countries. Two examples of what
we value are informality and privacy. Especially in the teenage slang culture, teens tend to develop
their own language simply for the privacy of their parents. In the "Values Americans Live By"
article it explains, "In the United States, privacy is not only seen as a very positive condition, but it
is also viewed as a requirement that all humans would find equally necessary, desirable and
satisfying" (Kohls). This sentence explains that privacy is sometimes a good thing to have in
American culture.

How Has Slang Changed Over The Years
Slang terms have been a prominent part of society for many years. Slang terms have also changed
from generation to generation. This paper will discuss some common slang terms and see if there is
a significant difference between the generations. Two hypotheses were used for this research
project. The reason that there are two is explained in the paper. They original hypothesis for this
paper was: slang terms from different generations are so vastly different that it would be very hard
to differentiate the meanings. This hypothesis had to be changed because the data collected did not
give the information needed to tell if the hypothesis could be proven or not. The new hypothesis is:
people from a specific generation will use a certain slang term more often than people from a
different generation. A quote from a document about slang used in school is what inspired this
project. "Today's teens aren't the first to have a language of their own. Every generation has its own
set of informal expressions, coined words and phrases, and standard vocabulary used in new ways–
in other words, slang. So do other groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The generation ranges were 15–35, 36–59, and 60–80+. Each person that took the survey was asked
to circle their age range and then pick the term that fit each question. The questions were: "What
term would you use for two people in a relationship?", "What term would you use to describe
someone that you find attractive?", "What term would you use to describe something that is
interesting?", "What term would you use to describe paper with monetary value (money)?", and
finally "What term would you use to describe people that are no longer in a relationship?". Each
question also had a fourth option; a fill in the blank. If the survey taker didn't see the term that they
would use then they could put a word of their choice. The survey will be at the end of this

Slang And Its Effect On Everyday Life Essay
The use of slang in my life today is very evident. My roommates and I always talk slang during the
day and the night. I don't use slang very much in text messages or emails partly because I don't feel
the need and I am normally emailing professors and staff members who expect me to respect them
by writing with proper English. Most of the time my roommates and I use slang when we are just
messing or playing around. Therefore, the use of slang in my classroom will be mainly for
educational purposes and limited because of the focus on standard English and the negative view it
may put upon the child. There is no doubt that people use slang almost every day. These people
might be just using it for fun and mocking others, while some may use it to protest the use of
standard English. The book, How English Works, by Curzan and Adams talks about how slang is
used in everyday life and thrives in places that involve pop–music, athletics, narcotics, and other
various factors (Curzan and Adams, 2012). I feel that Curzan and Adams are right on point when
they say slang thrives on these main ideas. For example, my roommates listen to music that has
slang involved in it. My roommates and I normally sing to some of the songs while they are playing
or even after they are done playing and use slang without consciously knowing because it is in a
song. Normally these songs get stuck in our heads and we end up singing the lyrics out loud using
slang almost every day. Most of the songs that we

Text Messaging Affecting Literacy
Outline
Introduction
Text messaging has become a very popular way to communicate for teenagers and it seems to be
altering the literacy of teens and also affecting the way they speak.
Text messaging has lead to many teenagers to become iliterate. With more teens resorting to texts
and emails to communicate with others the literacy is changing over time.
The impact that text messaging has on literacy of teens is important because the generations will
slowly become more reliant on the texting slang. As the literacy decreases due to the texts and
emails each generation will slowly create a new view of what literacy is.
Literacy is affected by different aspects of texting. The things that effect it include the access texting
gives you to autocorrect, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teenagers use texting as their main way to communicate which forces away face to face talking and
the requirement of using the correct way to read write and speak.
The way teenagers speak such as saying acronyms in conversations and abbreviations for words out
loud is proof that the grammar used to text is affecting the words we use for communication.
Speaking to people of importance or even just a family friend would require you to have literacy
skills so that they can understand what you are saying but the generations to come may form a new
thought of the requirements of what literacy is.
Conclusion
It is becoming evident that the way teenagers read write and speak is being impacted by the
percentages rising of the numbers of text messages that are being sent by teens daily.
The use of autocorrect that allows teens to not have to know how to correctly spell, cyber slang, and
also the way texting creates a barrier from how they speak are all affecting the literacy that is
needed for

Essay on The Slaughter of the English Language
In George Orwell's essay "Politics of the English Language", Orwell argues that the English
language is in ruins. What is to blame for the collapse of the English language? The answer simply
lies within technology. Technology in many ways has a adverse effect on the English language.
Young kids are now allowed to carry cell phones with texting being their main source of
communication. Often times these kids butcher the English language through their text messages.
They use improper grammar and often times do not punctuate at all. Technology such as texting,
facebook and instant messaging work hand in had in the destruction of the English language.
Technology has not made people more efficient, but rather has made them lazy. Text ... Show more

Some text speaking phrases include, OMG, LOL, BFF, LMAO, BRB and, these invalid word forms
are only the hurting the language itself. Text speaking has become so prevalent in society that now
the Oxford Dictionary's newest edition includes several of these phrases. A lot of teen aged kids
would have no struggle with defining these abbreviations. However, the older generation such as the
baby boomers may be scratching their heads in confusion, this is not the English language that they
have known or grown custom to. Point being, we are in the generation of texting and the old ways
are no longer relevant. The generation of texting has created new phrases and slang that they can
more easily identify themselves with. Now it is seen as awkward to not place these phrases into a
text message. If someone placed a phrase like "What you just typed was very funny. At this time I
am laughing out loud" (Brockenbrough 149). the reader would view that as awkward. When the
largest dictionary within the English language is starting to input text messaging phrases, clearly
there is a problem. English is slowly making its way to its demise, in place of it is text speaking.
The English language is also in decline because of the use of slang. In text messages, instant
message, and facebook, one is able to find countless example of slang word. Slang words are used
as a shortcut to bypass the actual spelling of a word. Examples would be typing

Slang-True Or False?
True or false?
1. Slang is always gross.
2. Slang makes writing appear unintelligent.
3. Good writers don't use slang outside dialogue.
4. Writers shouldn't use slang if not up on the latest terms.
If you answered "true" to any of the above, you may be suffering from––bummer!––slangophobia, a
possibly debilitating condition for contemporary writers. Signs of the phobia show up on Web
forums, where aspiring authors put the word "slang" in fearful quote marks. They admit to using
slang in conversation, but worry that in writing it would signal a literacy quotient of zip, zilch or
diddly–squat.
And, yes, one could give that impression––with a fusillade of slang so lame it sounds like Preppie

The art of slang
Unlike the soporific slang of the mall, a writer's slang aspires to an audience–pleasing elegance––
achieved, say, by poetic handling of slang, with attention to its sounds, rhythms and associations; by
slang used inventively for contrast within sophisticated frameworks; by artful mimicry of insider
slang––prison, military, Wall Street, etc.; or by virtuosity in the slang of the minute.
Along with such considerations, writers must heed the preferences of target media. The New York
Times' style guide, for example, encourages such slang flavorings as perp in a police feature, but
frowns on slang "where it would undermine the seriousness of the reporting."
Fear of compromising seriousness fuels much slangophobia, but slang can be somber as well as
mischievous in tone. Drug dealers' slang, for example, leaks into the narrative of Richard Price's
Clockers, underscoring the novel's deadly atmosphere:
Strike was used to seeing Rodney drive by the benches in a bug–eyed funk about once a week,
usually because someone

Tom Dalzell: The Rehearsal Of Our Youth
In our current generation, the youth has used a myriad amount of slang. Different levels of society
have their own slang. Different cultures have their own slang. Different races have their own slang.
In Tom Dalzell's view, he believes that this is due to the youth wanting to act rebellious, or as to
represent their identity. Our generation correlates exactly with Dalzell's view. Slang is seen as one of
the first steps to defying what is normally accepted in society. My parents have always taught me to
speak articulately and nicely towards other people, but I've mostly only spoken well at home. When
I stayed at some of my friends houses, this can be seen also. The youth does this because they want
to "act different". Kids and teenagers often

II. Introduction
Across the globe, the primary universal language that is accepted in English. To communicate
effectively and interact in corporate and industrial environment at international level, an effective
hold of language is must especially from students in colleges as they represent the future. But, there
are very few countries in the world which have English as their first language. Therefore a level of
difficulty arises for non–native speakers of English to adjust in the international standards of the
language. Also, countries which do not have English as their first language struggle with the accent
and dialect of their individuals where culture becomes an important factor in the use of Universal
language English especially with use of slang words. This is an era of modernization and social
media, internet communication plays an important role in exposure to the western culture in other
countries of the world.
Relevance of the Research
The relevance of this research helps in analysing the formal and slang usage of English by Southeast
Asian students from exposure to western culture through different means of communication. This
study will help the researcher to understand different English colloquialisms inherited by college
students in the three countries that are involved in this study (China, Japan and Philippines). Thus,
this study will motivate the researcher to assimilate various

Beyonce Formation Film Analysis
Beyoncé – feminism. Black feminism. Empowerment. This is what comes to mind when the name
Beyoncé is mentioned. Formation is a powerful, pro black anthem which gathers black women
together through the evident and subliminal use of slang in the restricted code. This captivating
black power anthem riddled in slang terms, speaks to black women and encourages black women to
break the barriers, fight constraints and to importantly love their melanin as well as never forget
their upbringing. I have chosen both Formation and Flawless as source materials due to the fact that
it epitomises the beauty and struggle, the beauty of the struggle of black feminism and adversities
endured by black women.

Sociolinguistically, in a narrow minded way her ethnicity would equate to being related to be with

"Okay ladies, now let's get in formation." All in all, Beyoncé's Formation is a reclamation of black
femininity from a patriarchal, Eurocentric and white supremacist ideologies. Beyoncé conveys this
to black girls through the use of empowering slang that makes black women feel unstoppable just
due to the slang and the passion of the lyrics. It epitomises unapologetic black femininity. The use of
Ebonics is highly frequent, in order for it to be relatable to black women and it is. It is because it
was performed by a black woman for black women; hence the use of Ebonics.
Ebonics? Slang? Is it the same thing? It can be perceived and extensively argued that Ebonics is just
slang and not the African American standard vernacular of English. To blatantly classify Ebonics as
slang indicates the pre conceived notions of Ebonics as it is occasionally related to the restricted
code rather than the elaborate code, simply due to the association of the African American

Appropriative Identities in Youth Culture
In Mary Bucholtz' book White Kids, she discusses the stature of whiteness in the United States as
hegemonic, unmarked, and culturally absent, making it situational and unstable. Bucholtz suggests
that to counteract that, the students she studied in her field work adopted many different identities
and identifiers, such as levels of popularity and racial backgrounds, the use of language, and the
physical styles with one chooses to present.
One identifying marker the students use is slang. Linguists define slang as a youth–dominated,
rapidly changing lexicon associated with casual social contexts, but a nonlinguistic view frames
slang as an illegitimate linguistic variety. The latter definition is inaccurate because these varieties
have strict grammatical rules and are only "illegitimate" to the uneducated eye. Furthermore, calling
slang illegitimate is disrespectful because it disregards the users of such language as inferior,
therefore rendering them powerless. This disrespect is often aimed at the African American
community, whose usage of AAVE is highly stigmatized. Slang, as a whole, is a shared youth
identity in that everyone regardless of race or social status uses it; however, much of slang is
available only to a certain group of people. Slang can be involved in processes of adequation or
distinction, making its usage contentious or socially risky depending on what person used

How Internet Slangs Affect language?

from 14 to 30, which most of the people within this age group is contacting with Internet slangs
most frequently. For the questionnaire, we interviewed one hundred people and student in City
University of Hong Kong, and half of interviewees are boys while the others are girls. The template
of questionnaire is attached as appendix for reference, and the result and data collected are shown as
below. It is expected that the use of Internet slangs among this age group is widely distributed, and
most of them have used Internet slangs. More precisely, it is shown that female has a higher rate of
using Internet slangs than male. It is predicted that girls would like to use more medium to express
their feeling, such as LOL, OMG. It may also due to the demand of shortening the communication
time or error on texting. The acknowledgement of some popular Internet slangs is expected to be
recognized widely by them. However, some of those less frequently used or new Internet slangs
may not be understood by some of them. It is expected that the understanding of Internet slangs will
be increased with the development of Internet slangs or the popularity of that term. The result
proved that texting is the most frequently used medium for Internet slangs, it is possible that the use
of Internet slangs can facilitate the communication. The results also revealed that they seldom use

Language In Human Communication
Language is a powerful tool that is integral in human communication. The human brain is hard–
wired to be adept at understanding social cues and situations that change the way we choose to
communicate. These internal and external factors play into one another and ultimately determine
how we choose to correspond with others to achieve our ultimate goal– relaying a message.
Although in many cases it is frowned upon to rely on slang to convey ideas, in some situations,
slang can be a reliable resource. By using his or her discretion and analyzing the situation, the
speaker must determine whether or not this dangerous, risk–reward weapon should be used.
Internal factors will greatly contribute to the path a person takes in corresponding with others. The
way a person feels about his or her own subject matter, determines what attitude the message will
carry. This is known as tone. A speaker who is speaking on something he or she disagrees with
might possess an antagonistic tone, while someone who is passionate about their topic may be
upbeat. The tone of a message arbitrates what words will be used. This is called the style. Style is
the culmination of word choice, idea arrangement, and the overall message portrayed by the
grouping of words. For example, the antagonistic speakers, may use a great deal of dysphemistic
language and arrange their ideas in a way that will cause their audience to view the subject of their
speech in a negative light. On the other hand, the passionate

Today's Kids Are, Like Killing The English Language
Over time, language changes over time. It can get shorter and the use of slang will get more popular.
Slang is used to make a sentence more understandable or to shorten a phrase. There are many
advantages to using nonstandard language when speaking and writing, but there are also many
disadvantages. Using nonstandard language can also change on how effective your communication
with someone can be. One of the advantages are that you can communicate with someone more
easily. But the bad part is other people who are fluent in the language will think you aren't very
smart.
The main advantage in using nonstandard language is that there is an ease of communication
between people. "That be common for I, also, but be more strong, you. Much work and someday ...

Slang can sometimes come off a bit rudely. With the words duh, yeah, and right, they don't sound
very happy. Here's a quote from Kirk Johnson's article, "Today's Kids Are, Like, Killing the English
Language":
Parent: Good morning, son, it's a beautiful day.
Eleven–year–old boy: Duh p.168
Now Johnson isn't saying that it is rude, but to most other people that can be insulting. If you don't
really know what slang means and you hear someone say something about you, you could take that
the wrong way. When communicating, the effectiveness of using nonstandard language or slang can
differ depending on who you talk to. If you are speaking to a friend, then it is fine if you use
shortcuts and slang. But if you are speaking to someone who's older than you, like a parent, then it
would be better off that you talk to them with standard language. One time my older brother said
"yolo" and my mom asked what that meant. After he explained it to her she said it didn't make sense
and it was kind of stupid. That's why it would be better off to not use slang or shortcuts around older

Why Should Slang Be Banned In School
Walking down a school hallway, one is guaranteed to hear slang being used by nearly all the
students. This is because slang is one of the most popular forms of communication, especially
among youth. However, there is much debate over whether slang should be banned in school.
Banning slang is schools could have consequences and lead to separation among students. Slang
should be allowed in schools because it is an easy and fun way for students to communicate with
each other, it establishes commonality among students, and banning slang could potentially alienate
students. Although slang should not be banned, it is important for students to learn when it is

Therefore, slang can help form friendships among students and create a friendly environment at

Essay on Language as Connectivity in a Group
Language is a crucial part of how people in a group show their solidarity to each other. Discuss
Through the use of language, each member of a group is able to construct and reflect their identity.
Through the language features present in slang and jargon, users are able to communicate their
social identity and group belonging. They are also able to portray their cultural heritage and
background through ethnolect varieties of English. Language plays a crucial part in enabling the
speaker to communicate belonging to a specific social group, reinforcing solidarity. The use of slang

Slang can also contain borrowings from other languages, allowing the user to appear knowledgeable
and cool, such as "nada" from Spanish or "ciao" from Italian. The use of slang enables members of a
group to bond over shared or common interests. Its somewhat exclusive nature enables users to
define boundaries between speakers that do and do not belong to the group, thus reflecting solidarity
towards group members. Similarly, jargon enables its users to reinforce and communicate group
solidarity. Jargon is a specific lexicon related to an area or field of interests such as cars, food, or
medicine. As a result, it can be used exclusively between members against an audience that does not
share the same knowledge or interests as the group, defining group membership and belonging. The
frequent use of abbreviations such as "CVA" (cerebrovascular accident) or "CPU" (central
processing unit) enable group members to communicate efficiently without having to spell out or
explain the meaning of the phrase each time it is used. Acronyms such as "ASIS" (Australian secret
intelligence service) and "Wifi" (wireless fidelity) enable effective communication, also saving time
during spoken or written discourse. Phrases of Latinate background and origin are also common to
jargon, as with "De Facto", "Quid Pro Quo" and "Pro Bono" from legal jargon. Their use enables the
speaker to appear impressive and knowledgeable.

The Use Of Slang And Its Significance On English Essay
Before getting into the abundance of slang and its significance on English, it is first best to cover the
four base words of the LGBTQ community and how they have transgressed over time. Queer,
lesbian, homosexual, and gay all share an importance to the beginnings of the more modern usages.
The origin of queer is unclear, but the Oxford English dictionary defines one of its earliest meanings
around 1513 as 'strange, odd, peculiar, eccentric'. It wasn't until the 1900s that it was used as an
offensive term for homosexual people, with its original meaning still in context. This changed in the
1990s when early conversations about queer theory were had by social theorists Michel Foucault,
Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Judith Butler, and others. This brought the word into a new light. Of
course it still holds some of its derogatory meaning, but by using this word to define a theory that
discussed the idea that gender is major part of the necessary self and in gay/lesbian studies it closely
examines the socially constructed nature of identities and sexual acts. This reading connects directly
with what is happening at present, which is a reclaiming of queer by people in the LGBTQ
community to stand for both questioning and sexual and gender minorities. In her article on
equality, Lisa Duggan states, "Queer people, particularly queer people of color, began to reclaim
queer in response to a perceived shift in the gay community toward liberal conservatism, catalyzed

language, or way of speaking. Using slang as a language is easier for all of the workers to
communicate as a group. In addition to making it easier to communicate there are also several other
reasons why New York workers use slang terms. First of all, the garbage men are working in the hot
summer. In paragraph four it says "It makes disgusting items not so disgusting." Using other words
like mongo and Disco rice is looking at the trash in a different way. They would no longer have to
picture loads of debris. using different words can also be a distraction

Research Paper On Slang Words
Justin Wherry Wherry 1 Miss Bailey English IV/ P.7 24 September, 2014 Slang Words Over the
decades people have become less educated, and stopped using a higher vocabulary. In place of the
higher word choice, groups of people devolved words that are "cooler" to say. Those words are
called slang. Slang means words or phrases that are commonly used in the English language to help
communicate to a specific crowd of people. The crowd of people that use slang may vary to
different age groups. And over the decades more words have been devolved, making slang words
like a continuous fad. Slang words, were developed to make communication to certain groups
easier, simpler, and perhaps more fun, however the use of slang words can cripple ones ... Show

To understand why we have slang, we must understand what we use slang words for. Slang words
were meant for communication purposes. They were devolved to communicate to a specific group
people throughout the same area. For example teenagers have their own language of slang, and so
did their parents. However the difference between the two is, the parents slang differs greatly
between the teenagers slang. Parents struggle daily to try to better communicate and understand
what their son/daughter is say to them, their friends, and on social media. Teenagers in the 21st
century love to use slang words on the internet to rapidly communicate to one another. As well as
out in public, teenagers communicate using slang. Although slang is commonly used a lot of people
feel the need to not even use slang. Slang has also devolved a negative side, most highly educated
people feel that slang words are a hazard to the English language. Not only does it make
communication more difficult but at the rate slang words will take over the vocabulary of all youth
in America. "When I was in school, slang words filled the halls of my hallway. Words like groovy,
and rad were the words that meant cool or hip. But now words like live, raw, or cold , mean the

Superposed Community Essay
"Dat Talk"
What is a speech community? This may be a question asked by many. A Speech community is a
group of people who share the same norms and expectations regarding the use of language.
Everyone belongs to some type of speech community based on their demographic background, race,
or age.
Every day I use words that may only be acceptable and understood by the people included in my
speech community. Depending on the place or scenario my words may slightly be altered to adjust
to the speech community I am entering. When I'm with my friends a normal conversation may go,
"what's good bro?" meaning what is going on or how are you doing? "You at the crib bro?" a phrase
used to know if one of our friends is at his place of residence. In my ... Show more content on

I feel that slang and language itself has come a long way. There was a day where I asked an elderly
lady at my job if she knew what molly was she explained with a confused face that she didn't. I told
her that molly was the street name for the drug ecstasy. She then told me that when she was my age
they called it ex or the love drug I had never heard of the love drug before. This is an example of
how words used are change based on your age, race, or norm of that time period. I feel that race has
a lot to do with the words people use this day in age; for example an African American may call his
house a crib and a European American may call it his home. In many cases, people would call this
speaking in ebonics. Some words that my speech community use are widely used by others around
the same age, and that is also a factor of the drastic change in word development. When a member
of my group hears an elder use slang younger people use it's amusing I feel like the older generation
is stepping out of their norm when it comes to staying up to date with the new slang. There are a few
older people who catch on to the lingo my group and I use, and try to incorporate it into their lives
to feel young ,and keep up with the norms of the constant changing world. During our daily lives the
members of my speech community seem to know what slang to use during a certain situation. I
belong to a few speech communities, but my friends seem

Genital Slang Names
Genital Slang Names
Identify one theme (a common characteristic) among the names used for male genitalia, and identify
one theme and the names used for female genitalia. Explain why you believe each theme has
emerged. When it comes to the male and female genitalia, people never use the proper terminology.
When parents are faced with questions from children they would rather avoid the awkwardness and
come up with pet names. With young adults, trying to fit in is the top of their list, so using slang for
the genitals is considered cool. It is emphasized especially in our culture/media, that using slang for
their genitals is cool, that by using the proper terms vagina and penis you are labeled as awkward,
rigid and very clinical. One common theme among the slangs used for male genitalia is often a

Do you think the slang terms produced in the list are in any way product of sexism towards either
males or females? This list definitely embodies sexism towards both males and females. On the
male side, chauvinistic, masculine qualities are being described while the female's list of words are
portrayed more as property and innocent, cute and even mysterious objects. Obviously these slangs
are all stereotypes of the male and female genitalia. They are what the culture expect of us and
pressurizes individuals to be and have. For example, the word pussy is a commonly used slang for
vagina. It used to mean cat or coward but somehow our culture associated this word that was used to
describe something so gentle like a cat and someone who is weak and a coward and relate it to a
women's private parts. Why don't we use anything that's more aggressive and strong to describe a
women's vagina when physically a vagina can handle more physical labor (pain) then a penis! By

Ted Talk
What exactly is considered a real word and what's not?
Is the English language being looked down upon due to the way newer generation are using the
language?
These are some of the questions that come up when I saw the Ted Talk "What makes a word 'real'?"
by Anne Curzan. Due to new generations, society have been using words or phrases that many
elders would find it as degrading the English language. As new generations come, older generations
would disapprove on how the English language is being used. New words are being made up, and
the use of speaking is being used as "improper". However who determines the proper way of
speaking?
In a Ted Talk discussing the usage of the English language, "What makes a word 'real'?" by Anne
Curzan, she answers the question, 'Who defines what goes into the dictionary?' In her Ted Talk she
describes how dictionaries work. The way dictionaries have no author, and how they are timeless.

Curzan discusses about a word that dictionary editors were considering in adding into the dictionary.
Which was the word YOLO, you only live once, an acronym that became a popular slang word in
2011 due to famous hip hop artist. Furthermore, there are different kinds of slang, which is a type of
English in America that spread with music.
There is a variety of English, for example colloquialism. Colloquialism and slang may seem similar
to a certain extent. These words are alike because they both mean a word or phrase that is not formal
or improper english. However, colloquialism is standard english and slang is not. Slang is normally
being used in certain society groups such as teenagers. Also colloquialism enriches the language and
slang would degrade it.
Furthermore, YOLO is considered as slang and the dictionary editors are looking out for this word

Comparing Walt Whitman's Politics And The English Language
Language is all around us, it is how we communicate with one another, it brings meaning to
literature, and is cemented into our culture. Walt Whitman, a famous American novelist from the 19
century, highlights the effects of language on the American population in his essay, Slang in
America. He focuses on positive aspect of slang, how we adapt slang into the english language, as if
it is second nature to use, giving a deeper meaning to everyday phrases and words. By contrast,
Politics and the English Language, by George Orwell, does not highlight the positive side to slang,
instead looking at how authors have started to write with no purpose, no meaning in their texts.
George Orwell, in Politics and the English Language, creates an connotation between ideas and an
appeal to logos to convince the reader that writers have started to write meaningless pieces of work
and could have potentially negative effects on the American people. Compared to Walt Whitman's
use of an unifying tone and an appeal to pathos in Slang in America, that highlights the positive
effects of the English language on the American people. Orwell creates a connotation between the
negative aspects of slang to better illustrate his perspective on slang. By concluding that pretentious
diction, meaningless words, and dying metaphors has a similar outcome in writing and made these
types of slang have negative connotations in writing. Orwell does this by looking at the state of the

Descriptive Essay : Slang And Sociolinguistics
Slang and Sociolinguistics
All languages grow in the direction of change. All languages exist to meet the needs of their
speakers. These two Linguistic Rules demonstrate the flexibility of language to be impacted by
sociocultural changes. Throughout the developmental history of the English Language, word
borrowing has been an integral system of language growth and change. This long–standing tradition
of adopting new words into the language has not been slowed in Modern English, but has rather
become more expansive and multi–faceted: technological advances in the last two centuries have
added a great number of words to the Modern English lexicon, as well as the World Wars, and
immigration. Growth and adaptations of language occur over time to meet the needs of the speakers
through expanded vocabulary, new connotations and meanings, and through the adoption of words
into mainstream culture that were previously used only by subcultures. This paper will seek to
explore the development of slang in Modern English and its cultural implications.
As culture adapts and grows with the influx of new technology, new peoples, and new ideas, the
language must also adapt and grow. According to Albert C. Baugh and Thomas Cable, authors of A
History of the English Language: Sixth Edition, "words obviously designate the things a culture
knows, just as obviously the vocabulary of a language must keep pace with the advance of a
culture's knowledge" (294). Words that are adopted into the culture

the twenty first century uses today are very degrading and highly disrespectful. The slang people

In recent years, slang and text speak have steadily infiltrated professional compositions; slyly
maneuvering unstately unconventionalities into dignified documents that consequentially cause
holistic repercussions in student's writing abilities. This act has created a surging increase in the

miscommunication within the workplace; both of which lead to unproductivity and less millennials

What's Black Then White And Said All Over Summary
Slang has been around for centuries; everyone, no matter his or her race or ethnicity uses it, but it is
more comely used by African Americans. In "What's Black, Then White, and Said All Over," Leslie
Savan talks about covert prestige and how black–inspired language is used around the mainstream,
not only in pop music but also in marketing methods. Helen Epstein in her essay "AIDS, Inc.,"
talked about the different advertising methods the people in Africa used to try to lower the AIDS
rate. Both essays touch the topic of advertising but Savan's paper was mainly focused on the impact
that black talk had on the mainstream, marketing, and convert prestige. Most of us talk and all of us
have heard or been exposed to slang or "black talk" on social media, at school, the mall or any social
event. According to Leslie Savan "Black Slang can't describe black language, because clearly most

Definition Essay On Slang
There are thousands of slang terms usage out there that dated way back in the day. Slang terms tend
to be out of date as time continue. Even though the terms doesn't live very long, there are people of
different generations who still use them or at least have heard of them. After analyzing the thirty
terms I have come up, I noticed that the bigger the age gap between generations, the less knowledge
they have about the current slang terms. I am twenty–one year old so I chose three other people to
take the survey range from eighteen, twenty–five, and forty–five years old to see their knowledge
about the terms. Different age group do have different perception of the word and its meaning. For
example the term "beat", in my definition on how I use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For an old slang term, I wanted to see if the two people who is younger know the term "Booyah" or
not. I believe "Booyah" is an old saying of excitement and kids these days don't use that anymore,
but the people in the nineties would for sure know about it. I was surprise to see that all three people
knew what "Booyah" mean. For a newer one I used "Photobomb" and I was not as surprise to see
the forty–five person knew what it mean. Since photobomb gotten popular couple of years ago, it
would make this person early forties maybe even late thirties so it would make a lot of sense for this
person to know the term. Also this term was so popular when it came out so there is no way they
wouldn't know or at least heard about it, unless it is an elder citizen that don't use a phone or
technology. Overall, everyone could defined my list of slang even if it the literal meaning or slang
meaning. The twenty–five and forty–five have couple of question marks where they can't defined it,
but of course the older one have lot more than the younger one. I believe that no matter if the slang
is consider old and out of date it all depend on the person if they know the term or not. Someone
could be young, but doesn't like to use popular slang and like old style would probably not know
what the slang mean. I myself don't use now–a–day slangs and a good amount on my list I don't

Barriers Of Communication In Communication
A business setting requires that the people concerned communicate effectively with each other in
order to reduce negative consequences that would be as a result of misunderstanding or damaged
relationship. There are many barriers that would hinder any business communication process. These
includes cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemism, double speak. This essay
briefly described these barriers to communication in a business setting.
Cliché is a barrier of communication because it entails the use of once clever word or phrase that
has lost its impact through overuse (McLean, 2010, p.58). An example of a cliché would be "this is
just but the wars of cats and dogs". In a business setting, the use of a cliché would undermined the
seriousness with which the meeting at hand is handled. When it is used carelessly, the quorum may
find it silly or boring and that may cause the listeners to ignore the message they are intended to
pass. When this happens, then a cliché becomes an obstacle to the effectiveness of communication.
Jargon on the other hand is the use of words which may not be familiar to everyone but to only
those who frequently use it for instance the people in the same profession. An example of this would
be Ceasar Pass to mean a kind of pass in soccer. Assuming that jargons are used in a business setting
to audience who do not understand their specific meanings, do you think the message will be passed
effectively? It may be irritating when someone

Summary: The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras
"The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras" was written by Mark Twain in 1867. This story uses a
style of writing, called 'Local Color Writing', to add personality to the story. Local color writing is
when the storyteller uses characters, dialect, and customs from a specific region. "The Celebrated
Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" uses a more southern, backwoods style of local color writing. A
few examples of this are how the story is written in southern slang, the names of some of the
characters, and how the characters speak. One of my favorite pieces of this story's color writing is as
follows; "Thish–yer Smiley had a mare the boys called her the fifteen– minute nag, but that was

Slang Is So Popular With The Younger Generations
The way in which we speak changes drastically depending on the situation, environment we are in
and who we are speaking to. The use of slang in today's society is increasingly becoming more and
more common. However, this new, modern way of speaking also comes with negative connotations.
For this reason, people have had to learn to adapt their speech to their situation. I will be discussing
the reasons behind the use of slang, why some people disapprove of it and I will analyse how people
change the way in which they speak depending on their situation. Many young people use slang in
order to fit in with their peers. Because slang is mainly spoken by younger people, the use of it
almost puts up a barrier between children and adults. This barrier gives the youth a sense of
rebellion. This may be one of the reasons why slang is so popular with the younger generations, this
feeling gives them a sense of freedom and independence. Additionally, this may also be one of the
reasons why many people disapprove of the use of slang. Some people believe that the use of slang
suggests bad manners and morals, this leads to them distrusting people who use slang. People also
believe that the common use of slang is causing the deterioration of Standard English. This can
cause many problems in society because it is easy for assumptions to be made about people because
of the way they speak. For this reason, the younger generation have learnt to adapt the way they
speak around different

How Does S. E. Hinton Use Slang In The Outsiders
S.E. Hinton, the author of the novel "The Outsiders" accurately portrays the 60's culture within this
novel. This novel was published in 1967, which means Hinton may have used words, including
slang in "The Outsiders". S.E. Hinton, wrote a great novel that describes the relationship between
the different gangs, and the relationship within the members of the gang. S.E. Hinton gives her
readers many hints about how she portrays the 60's in "The Outsiders". Hinton, as mentioned, uses
slang throughout the chapters such as "fuzz" which was referred to cops, in the 1960's. "... the cops
would be coming soon and nobody in their right mind wants to be around when the fuzz show."
(S.E. Hinton). She also makes it clear that there are two social groups, ... Show more content on

Hinton does not accurately portray the culture of the 1960's. Their reasoning could be that,
throughout the novel, with the descriptions, Hinton, never once described them as "Hippies" which
was more on the side of a style in the 60's. But these gangs were more "tuff" lookin'. Tuff is their
own word that the greasers use to describe themselves as "good looking" or "tough". Another reason
why readers might agree with the non portrayal side, is because Pony only states the looks, for
example, Newman is much more than looks, he served in the "... United States Navy during World
War ll." (Paul Newman) so a reader might think this book has nothing to do with what actually took
place in the culture of the 60's. This would not be a strong opposing argument because we can not

Example Of A Ukudragona

  • 1. Example Of A Ukudragona When using metaphors, Dance Boys are usually braggers or show offs, which they describe as ukudragona 'boasting.' Stich explains the word ukudragona is about a fire–breathing dragon. For Dance Boys, dragon fire is the ability to boast about oneself, especially one's socioeconomic status. The first example shows this type of boasting when Themba, Pano and Sibusiso use skinny jeans to talk about physical differences within the group. The example here draws to attention the interrelated role of space (the township setting), language practice (tsotsitaal) and objects (skinny jeans), that is to say the "language resources that people bring with them from their life trajectories and the linguistic resources that are available to them" (Pennycook ... • 3. The Comparison Of Teenage Slang One popular trend that American adults notice is the use and variety of teenage slang. The teenage slang trend had existed for a while, but with every new generation, words are being added on the list. Often time on the news adults try to help parents decode the teen's language to understand what their children are saying in text, the internet, and even in person. Teenage slag is a unique language that we teens use to relate to each other. The slag is an important cultural value, because social media had caused it to expand to not only the United States, but also teens all over the world are using the slang to put more emphasis into what they are saying. The slang that we use helps the younger generation to bond and relate to each other in text as well as in person. Teenage slang adds to the American cultural values because it shows that as Americans we can be private and informal. As Americans, we tend to value some things differently than other countries. Two examples of what we value are informality and privacy. Especially in the teenage slang culture, teens tend to develop their own language simply for the privacy of their parents. In the "Values Americans Live By" article it explains, "In the United States, privacy is not only seen as a very positive condition, but it is also viewed as a requirement that all humans would find equally necessary, desirable and satisfying" (Kohls). This sentence explains that privacy is sometimes a good thing to have in American culture. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Has Slang Changed Over The Years Slang terms have been a prominent part of society for many years. Slang terms have also changed from generation to generation. This paper will discuss some common slang terms and see if there is a significant difference between the generations. Two hypotheses were used for this research project. The reason that there are two is explained in the paper. They original hypothesis for this paper was: slang terms from different generations are so vastly different that it would be very hard to differentiate the meanings. This hypothesis had to be changed because the data collected did not give the information needed to tell if the hypothesis could be proven or not. The new hypothesis is: people from a specific generation will use a certain slang term more often than people from a different generation. A quote from a document about slang used in school is what inspired this project. "Today's teens aren't the first to have a language of their own. Every generation has its own set of informal expressions, coined words and phrases, and standard vocabulary used in new ways– in other words, slang. So do other groups ... • 5. Slang And Its Effect On Everyday Life Essay The use of slang in my life today is very evident. My roommates and I always talk slang during the day and the night. I don't use slang very much in text messages or emails partly because I don't feel the need and I am normally emailing professors and staff members who expect me to respect them by writing with proper English. Most of the time my roommates and I use slang when we are just messing or playing around. Therefore, the use of slang in my classroom will be mainly for educational purposes and limited because of the focus on standard English and the negative view it may put upon the child. There is no doubt that people use slang almost every day. These people might be just using it for fun and mocking others, while some may use it to protest the use of standard English. The book, How English Works, by Curzan and Adams talks about how slang is used in everyday life and thrives in places that involve pop–music, athletics, narcotics, and other various factors (Curzan and Adams, 2012). I feel that Curzan and Adams are right on point when they say slang thrives on these main ideas. For example, my roommates listen to music that has slang involved in it. My roommates and I normally sing to some of the songs while they are playing or even after they are done playing and use slang without consciously knowing because it is in a song. Normally these songs get stuck in our heads and we end up singing the lyrics out loud using slang almost every day. Most of the songs that we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Text Messaging Affecting Literacy Outline Introduction Text messaging has become a very popular way to communicate for teenagers and it seems to be altering the literacy of teens and also affecting the way they speak. Text messaging has lead to many teenagers to become iliterate. With more teens resorting to texts and emails to communicate with others the literacy is changing over time. The impact that text messaging has on literacy of teens is important because the generations will slowly become more reliant on the texting slang. As the literacy decreases due to the texts and emails each generation will slowly create a new view of what literacy is. Literacy is affected by different aspects of texting. The things that effect it include the access texting gives you to autocorrect, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Teenagers use texting as their main way to communicate which forces away face to face talking and the requirement of using the correct way to read write and speak. The way teenagers speak such as saying acronyms in conversations and abbreviations for words out loud is proof that the grammar used to text is affecting the words we use for communication. Speaking to people of importance or even just a family friend would require you to have literacy skills so that they can understand what you are saying but the generations to come may form a new thought of the requirements of what literacy is. Conclusion It is becoming evident that the way teenagers read write and speak is being impacted by the percentages rising of the numbers of text messages that are being sent by teens daily. The use of autocorrect that allows teens to not have to know how to correctly spell, cyber slang, and also the way texting creates a barrier from how they speak are all affecting the literacy that is needed for ... • 7. Essay on The Slaughter of the English Language In George Orwell's essay "Politics of the English Language", Orwell argues that the English language is in ruins. What is to blame for the collapse of the English language? The answer simply lies within technology. Technology in many ways has a adverse effect on the English language. Young kids are now allowed to carry cell phones with texting being their main source of communication. Often times these kids butcher the English language through their text messages. They use improper grammar and often times do not punctuate at all. Technology such as texting, facebook and instant messaging work hand in had in the destruction of the English language. Technology has not made people more efficient, but rather has made them lazy. Text ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some text speaking phrases include, OMG, LOL, BFF, LMAO, BRB and, these invalid word forms are only the hurting the language itself. Text speaking has become so prevalent in society that now the Oxford Dictionary's newest edition includes several of these phrases. A lot of teen aged kids would have no struggle with defining these abbreviations. However, the older generation such as the baby boomers may be scratching their heads in confusion, this is not the English language that they have known or grown custom to. Point being, we are in the generation of texting and the old ways are no longer relevant. The generation of texting has created new phrases and slang that they can more easily identify themselves with. Now it is seen as awkward to not place these phrases into a text message. If someone placed a phrase like "What you just typed was very funny. At this time I am laughing out loud" (Brockenbrough 149). the reader would view that as awkward. When the largest dictionary within the English language is starting to input text messaging phrases, clearly there is a problem. English is slowly making its way to its demise, in place of it is text speaking. The English language is also in decline because of the use of slang. In text messages, instant message, and facebook, one is able to find countless example of slang word. Slang words are used as a shortcut to bypass the actual spelling of a word. • 8. Slang-True Or False? True or false? 1. Slang is always gross. 2. Slang makes writing appear unintelligent. 3. Good writers don't use slang outside dialogue. 4. Writers shouldn't use slang if not up on the latest terms. If you answered "true" to any of the above, you may be suffering from––bummer!––slangophobia, a possibly debilitating condition for contemporary writers. Signs of the phobia show up on Web forums, where aspiring authors put the word "slang" in fearful quote marks. They admit to using slang in conversation, but worry that in writing it would signal a literacy quotient of zip, zilch or diddly–squat. And, yes, one could give that impression––with a fusillade of slang so lame it sounds like Preppie Night at a rapfest. But in the writing game, such shooting from the hip is ... The art of slang Unlike the soporific slang of the mall, a writer's slang aspires to an audience–pleasing elegance–– achieved, say, by poetic handling of slang, with attention to its sounds, rhythms and associations; by slang used inventively for contrast within sophisticated frameworks; by artful mimicry of insider slang––prison, military, Wall Street, etc.; or by virtuosity in the slang of the minute. Along with such considerations, writers must heed the preferences of target media. The New York Times' style guide, for example, encourages such slang flavorings as perp in a police feature, but frowns on slang "where it would undermine the seriousness of the reporting." Fear of compromising seriousness fuels much slangophobia, but slang can be somber as well as mischievous in tone. Drug dealers' slang, for example, leaks into the narrative of Richard Price's

Different cultures have their own slang. Different races have their own slang. In Tom Dalzell's view, he believes that this is due to the youth wanting to act rebellious, or as to represent their identity. Our generation correlates exactly with Dalzell's view. Slang is seen as one of the first steps to defying what is normally accepted in society. Sociolinguistically, in a narrow minded way her ethnicity would equate to being related to be with the restricted code but her articulate manner is interpreted with the elaborate code. "Okay ladies, now let's get in formation." All in all, Beyoncé's Formation is a reclamation of black femininity from a patriarchal, Eurocentric and white supremacist ideologies. Beyoncé conveys this to black girls through the use of empowering slang that makes black women feel unstoppable just due to the slang and the passion of the lyrics. It epitomises unapologetic black femininity. The use of Ebonics is highly frequent, in order for it to be relatable to black women and it is. It is because it was performed by a black woman for black women; hence the use of Ebonics. Ebonics? Slang? Is it the same thing? It can be perceived and extensively argued that Ebonics is just slang and not the African American standard vernacular of English. To blatantly classify Ebonics as slang indicates the pre conceived notions of Ebonics as it is occasionally related to the restricted code rather than the elaborate code, simply due to the association of the African American ... • 13. Analysis Of ' White Kids ' Sadie Mazur Anthro 105 Rosa November 21, 2014 Appropriative Identities in Youth Culture In Mary Bucholtz' book White Kids, she discusses the stature of whiteness in the United States as hegemonic, unmarked, and culturally absent, making it situational and unstable. Bucholtz suggests that to counteract that, the students she studied in her field work adopted many different identities and identifiers, such as levels of popularity and racial backgrounds, the use of language, and the physical styles with one chooses to present. One identifying marker the students use is slang. Linguists define slang as a youth–dominated, rapidly changing lexicon associated with casual social contexts, but a nonlinguistic view frames slang as an illegitimate linguistic variety. The latter definition is inaccurate because these varieties have strict grammatical rules and are only "illegitimate" to the uneducated eye. Furthermore, calling slang illegitimate is disrespectful because it disregards the users of such language as inferior, therefore rendering them powerless. This disrespect is often aimed at the African American community, whose usage of AAVE is highly stigmatized. Slang, as a whole, is a shared youth identity in that everyone regardless of race or social status uses it; however, much of slang is available only to a certain group of people. Slang can be involved in processes of adequation or distinction, making its usage contentious or socially risky depending on what person used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It's like around the corner. Grammatically, "like" modifies a verb in (1); a noun in (2); an adjective in (3); the whole sentence in (4); and a prepositional phrase in (5). It is expected that the use of Internet slangs among this age group is widely distributed, and most of them have used Internet slangs. More precisely, it is shown that female has a higher rate of using Internet slangs than male. It is predicted that girls would like to use more medium to express their feeling, such as LOL, OMG. It may also due to the demand of shortening the communication time or error on texting. The acknowledgement of some popular Internet slangs is expected to be recognized widely by them. However, some of those less frequently used or new Internet slangs may not be understood by some of them. It is expected that the understanding of Internet slangs will be increased with the development of Internet slangs or the popularity of that term. The result proved that texting is the most frequently used medium for Internet slangs, it is possible that the use of Internet slangs can facilitate the communication. Although in many cases it is frowned upon to rely on slang to convey ideas, in some situations, slang can be a reliable resource. By using his or her discretion and analyzing the situation, the speaker must determine whether or not this dangerous, risk–reward weapon should be used. Internal factors will greatly contribute to the path a person takes in corresponding with others. The way a person feels about his or her own subject matter, determines what attitude the message will carry. This is known as tone. A speaker who is speaking on something he or she disagrees with might possess an antagonistic tone, while someone who is passionate about their topic may be upbeat. The tone of a message arbitrates what words will be used. This is called the style. Style is the culmination of word choice, idea arrangement, and the overall message portrayed by the grouping of words. For example, the antagonistic speakers, may use a great deal of dysphemistic language and arrange their ideas in a way that will cause their audience to view the subject of their speech in a negative light. • 22. The Use Of Slang And Its Significance On English Essay Before getting into the abundance of slang and its significance on English, it is first best to cover the four base words of the LGBTQ community and how they have transgressed over time. Queer, lesbian, homosexual, and gay all share an importance to the beginnings of the more modern usages. The origin of queer is unclear, but the Oxford English dictionary defines one of its earliest meanings around 1513 as 'strange, odd, peculiar, eccentric'. It wasn't until the 1900s that it was used as an offensive term for homosexual people, with its original meaning still in context. This changed in the 1990s when early conversations about queer theory were had by social theorists Michel Foucault, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Judith Butler, and others. This brought the word into a new light. Of course it still holds some of its derogatory meaning, but by using this word to define a theory that discussed the idea that gender is major part of the necessary self and in gay/lesbian studies it closely examines the socially constructed nature of identities and sexual acts. This reading connects directly with what is happening at present, which is a reclaiming of queer by people in the LGBTQ community to stand for both questioning and sexual and gender minorities. This is an example of how words used are change based on your age, race, or norm of that time period. Walt Whitman, a famous American novelist from the 19 century, highlights the effects of language on the American population in his essay, Slang in America. He focuses on positive aspect of slang, how we adapt slang into the english language, as if it is second nature to use, giving a deeper meaning to everyday phrases and words. By contrast, Politics and the English Language, by George Orwell, does not highlight the positive side to slang, instead looking at how authors have started to write with no purpose, no meaning in their texts. George Orwell, in Politics and the English Language, creates an connotation between ideas and an appeal to logos to convince the reader that writers have started to write meaningless pieces of work and could have potentially negative effects on the American people. These two Linguistic Rules demonstrate the flexibility of language to be impacted by sociocultural changes. Throughout the developmental history of the English Language, word borrowing has been an integral system of language growth and change. This long–standing tradition of adopting new words into the language has not been slowed in Modern English, but has rather become more expansive and multi–faceted: technological advances in the last two centuries have added a great number of words to the Modern English lexicon, as well as the World Wars, and immigration. Growth and adaptations of language occur over time to meet the needs of the speakers through expanded vocabulary, new connotations and meanings, and through the adoption of words into mainstream culture that were previously used only by subcultures. This paper will seek to explore the development of slang in Modern English and its cultural implications. As culture adapts and grows with the influx of new technology, new peoples, and new ideas, the language must also adapt and grow. According to Albert C. Barriers Of Communication In Communication A business setting requires that the people concerned communicate effectively with each other in order to reduce negative consequences that would be as a result of misunderstanding or damaged relationship. There are many barriers that would hinder any business communication process. These includes cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemism, double speak. This essay briefly described these barriers to communication in a business setting. Cliché is a barrier of communication because it entails the use of once clever word or phrase that has lost its impact through overuse (McLean, 2010, p.58). An example of a cliché would be "this is just but the wars of cats and dogs". In a business setting, the use of a cliché would undermined the seriousness with which the meeting at hand is handled. When it is used carelessly, the quorum may find it silly or boring and that may cause the listeners to ignore the message they are intended to pass. When this happens, then a cliché becomes an obstacle to the effectiveness of communication. Jargon on the other hand is the use of words which may not be familiar to everyone but to only those who frequently use it for instance the people in the same profession. An example of this would be Ceasar Pass to mean a kind of pass in soccer. This would not be a strong opposing argument because we can not base it off of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When it comes to texting friends or family members I always talk slang or if I do talk professional with them I tend to abbreviate my words to send the text back fast if I'm in a rush to send the message Like for example when I say talk to you later I tend to say TTYL. When I talk to friends or family on the phone I tend to do the same thing to where I slang my words like for example I would say was up instead of what's up. When I talk on the phone with someone that's a professional at a company I would tend to drop the ball ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
