Action Learning Project -Training In Restricted Travel Environment
1. LEDP 2008/2009 Action Learning Project for Nortel Knowledge Services Training Options and Travel Restrictions Gayle Lanier, Donna Samper, Michael Cahill, Fred Reynolds, F iliz Karahan Kizer, Angela Cody, Steve Shillitoe, Cristian Salescu
2. Business Case: Training is a required element for Nortel employees and our customers in order to maintain and develop skills. Nortel has implemented travel and spend restrictions. Many of Nortel’s customers would be facing similar restrictions. Travel costs to attend training are approx $40m globally, thus the reduction of travel costs would allow more students to attend training, on a timely basis rather than waiting for budget availability. This would benefit both ESAT and CSAT. Opportunity Statement: Consultative measures with Nortel Knowledge Services and other Business Unit SMEs to better define and validate KS data for cost effectiveness and training readiness . Used Best In Class information from Nortel industry peers and competitors in efforts to obtain various external training perspectives . Goal Statement: Suggest a new alternative for training delivery Provide recommendation for improvements to virtual and e-learning training. Project Scope: Assess the current training areas worked by Knowledge Services Determine any areas that have already been excluded due to excessive cost or ineffective knowledge transfer. Investigate the feedback held by KS on training courses. Identify employee needs based on current restrictions. Determine a specific area of training that will benefit well from a change in delivery format. Obtain Best In Class information from others in the industry, to build an external perspective.
