costumed heroes. The story questions the definition of a hero and their limitations. The graphic
novel breaks down the genre by focusing on characters who only appear as heroes. The idea of
vigilantism, violence, sense of justice, and gender are all examined in the lens of this apocalyptic
and utopian world. When we think of superheroes, who do we normally picture? Most of us will
probably think of Superman who embodies the traits of a hero and even has the word "super" in his
name. These superheroes that we think of are often symbols of power, justice, and freedom.
Although not all heroes have these attributes, one of the key aspects of being a hero is their virtue.
These heroes were created with an immense sense of morality. Particularly, Watchmen reverses this
moral belief. It is consistently reminding us that in a real world with actual people that they will
make mistakes or considered as villains. This holds true for everyone, even for the heroes in the

are usually odd making the viewer's confuse and unsure about the massage that the artist trying to

Tunnel of Love is unlike any other album that Bruce Springsteen has written. This was an album full

Merriam–Webster Dictionary defines a superhero as, "a fictional character who has amazing powers
(such as the ability to fly)" or "a very heroic person"; yet, many of the characters in Watchmen have
no supernatural power and are immoral by most precedent societal standards. Alan Moore, in the
graphic novel Watchmen (1986–1987), asserts Rorschach as an example of deontology. Moore
supports his thoughts through dialogue and illustration. The author's purpose is to juxtapose
philosophical beliefs by comparing their varied flaws through differing narrators' points of view.
The author takes a condescending tone in an effort to enrage his target audience of adult males. This
paper seeks to illustrate, qualify, and challenge Moore's claim that Rorschach is a deontologist.
Moore sets an example through the character Rorschach that all men should be protectors of their
society. In Watchmen, he portrays Rorschach as a vigilante hoping to save people from the evils of
wrong doers. With the threat of nuclear attack, the world is in turmoil. Rorschach investigates the
murder of fellow Watchman, Comedian, and warns other superheroes while enlisting the help of
Nite Owl in order to find out who is behind the latest attack. After Dr. Manhattan, a god like
superhero, is forced to leave earth for Mars, Rorschach is set–up and placed in jail for murder. Nite

The Watchman As A Hero In Alan Moore's Watchmen
A cornerstone work in the world of graphic novels, Alan Moore's Watchmen provides a rich plot for
readers while pushing them to question the world in which they live. One such question suggested
by the text is what it means to be a hero or a "good guy", and to what extent bad acts are
redeemable. Through the Comedian, Moore provides a character who skirts the line between good
and evil in that he uses aggressive methods for achieving his goals, but is still considered a hero.
Furthermore, the Comedian, also known as Edward Blake, though not the only overly violent hero,
is most always cast in a negative light, with few redeeming qualities, suggesting that the small good
he does is not enough to outweigh the bad.
The identity of the Comedian is slowly revealed through the course of the book, with several key
scenes demonstrating his twisted worldview. One of the first sources of characterization is his
attempted rape of Silk Spectre. At that point in time, no other source of identity has been given, so
for the duration of the novel, the reader must absorb all new information knowing the evil he is
capable of, and has committed. In providing a negative first impression of the Comedian, Moore
forces readers to subconsciously interpret any new information presented about him in a dark light,
and in doing so, suggests that redemption is not possible for Blake. In addition, the juxtaposition of
Blake as a hero who first appears as a rapist forces the reader to take into question

It is compiled by Mark Sutherland and includes writings from famed Christian personality James C.
Dobson Chief Justice Roy Moore, Ambassador Alan Keyes, U.s Attorney General Ed Meese, among
others. The book is a call to political action. It is aimed at Christian readers and the writers all argue
that Christian politics equals constitutional purism. It is specifically meant to invoke constitutional
responses and activism. Each chapter, twenty in all, are a few pages long and systematically decry
the current judicial system and explain the lack of constitutional basis for their current level of
power.
The book's primary source of inspiration seems to be the lawsuit involving Alabama Chief Justice
Roy Moore. The case was highly publicized and Moore's refusal to carry out the ultimate ruling led
to his removal from office. "Chief Justice Moore was removed from office in which a majority of
citizens of Alabama elected him to serve – for acknowledging God with the placement of a

The Death Of A Costumed Adventurer
The death of a costumed adventurer often leads audiences to contemplate the significance of it. It is
a prevalent issue in which these characters appear to sacrifice their lives for the possibility of a
greater good. In Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen, masked hero are subjected towards
death due to their actions and the actions of others. Whether it is the actions of a friend, stranger, or
foe, the untimely deaths of Rorschach, Nite Owl I, and The Comedian proves a costumed
adventurer's death leads to the loss of humanity. Walter Joseph Kovacs, or more commonly known
as Rorschach, is a costumed vigilante whose death plays a significant role in Watchmen. Rorschach
is depicted as a disturbed man who believes there is always a right and wrong, even if it means
breaking the law to bring a higher justice in the world. His belief deems prevalent by defying the
Keene Act of 1977, which outlawed any type of vigilantism by costumed adventurers, except for
those who worked exclusively under the United States government like Dr. Manhattan and The
Comedian. By breaking down the components of Rorschach's mask, there will be a deeper
understanding of what the mysterious Rorschach represents in Watchmen. Rorschach's viewpoint of

"Watchmen" by Allan Moore was overly great and entertaining to read. Especially, the last chapter
"A Stronger Loving World" had impactful visualizations that captured my eyes. I was so dumbstruck
how Allan Moore put a humongous and ugly monster in the panel which had been teleported to the
middle of New York City slaughtering millions of innocent citizens. The way he expressed
hideousness in that scene with a dark blood surrounding the bodies added an intense feeling of
gruesome too. Moreover, I think pieces of drawings shown in this chapter were more cruel, but
much more intriguing and stunning than any deaths in Shakespeare's "Macbeth". Macbeth solely
showed scenes about death of a single person, usually one murdering another. But "Watchmen" had
diverse elements of deaths such as pregnant woman getting shot or a bunch of citizens getting

The genre of the film is far more evident in the poster for 'The World Is Not Enough'. The images
used connote an action film that has many different narratives. The poster is lively and eye–catching
and is full of bright, vivid images. The poster fits in very well with the title of the film, as it looks
like James Bond is going to embark on some international mission, the image of some of the
continents in flames shows this. There are also several images circling around the main characters in
the film, which look futuristic and scientific and feature explosions and car chases. Comparing the
two posters also shows how technology and science has progressed through the decades and this is

Imagine a nation where one did not have to worry about deductibles, high monthly insurance rates,
and being denied health care. Is this possible? Can the United States (U.S.) have this or is such a
nation fiction? Michael Moore, known documentary filmmaker, set out on a mission. This mission
was featured in his documentary, Sicko. The mission consisted of multiple rhetorical strategies to
disclose the positive and negative effects of socialized health care. The great thing about this topic is
that it's applicable to a wide audience. From teenagers just starting to get health insurance, to people
midway through their life that may have been burned by the industry, to seniors that need to still
work in their eighties to pay off their health care bills. Moore gives good insight to both sides of the
argument, and allows the audience to examine all factors. Through many accounts of Moore's

Michael Moore's main goal in "Idiot Nation" was to give his opinion on the unethical educational
system of America. Also to show how corrupt and poor political decisions have caused schools to
look to corporate funding for money. Moore argues that politicians have neglected the educational
system. This neglect has allowed for corporate businesses to come in and solve their problem but
with their own priorities in mind and not the futures of the children. Throughout "Idiot Nation"

To offer an explanation as to how America got to this "barbaric stage", an animated short, courtesy
of Matt Stone is played, which takes a satirical approach to the story of America's gun laws. The
general idea put across from this segment is that America's obsession with guns has transpired from
a fear of the black man; where it even went as far to suggest that the KKK negotiated with the NRA
to restrict black people's possession of a firearm. Moore then proposes that this fear has appeared in
many different forms, and that of which has been orchestrated by the government and large
corporations to boost consumerism. A hypothesis like this does seem plausible, however there is no

The majority of the documentary is spent proving this theory that Moore has ingeniously managed
to synthesise. Whether it is fear of the black man during slavery, fear of terrorists after 9/11 or fear
of teenagers after the Columbine Shooting; there is always a reason for America to worry. Moore
shows us that when people are scared, they look for ways to protect themselves, causing them to
spend money; shown by the increase in homeland security after 9/11, which also was apparently
caused by the CIA supplying Osama Bin Laden with weaponry and tactical training that was later

alone. Her parents went out to get dinner but then it started to storm hard and the parents were still

245 in rural and small town communities across the United States (Huling, 198). The rise
accommodate the increasing number of individuals caught in the vast "War on Drugs" net. The core

on the idea that prison jobs were "family–sustaining ones" (Che, 814), i.e. good benefits and a

incarcerating friends. Incarceration is dehumanizing; it is turning individuals into capital to fill the

seemingly liberated individuals from geography and the urban degradation, were now locking up
and cutting away the other's freedoms. And at the same time, prisons helped to distance the wealthy
from the poor and black inner city masses.
The creation of private spaces illuminated class inequality. Moore's major mission of the film was to
track down General Motor's GM Roger Smith and convince him to come to Flint, Michigan to see
the damage his factory shutdowns created. Throughout the trek, Moore visits country and athletic

Boogie Nights is wonderfully written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and succeeds in
introducing in its viewer to a new perspective on a world often viewed socially with scorn. After
subtly choreographing the introduction of the relationships between characters, the film then
highlights a slice of each individual's life, giving the viewer a further insight into their motivations
and/or regrets. Each character is searching for something that is missing in their lives, and the
pornography business seems to provide them with what they are lacking. This is evidenced when
Dirk's need for a loving mother figure is fulfilled by Amber, who desperately wants to be reunited
with her estranged son.
Amber (Julianne Moore), a veteran in the business, quickly takes Dirk under her protective maternal
wing by providing him with something he has never had, the unconditional love of a mother.
Amber's maternal displays of affection are incestuously infected at best, but they still manage to
portray a deep and much needed love between the two. Young Dirk is given every indulgence a 17
year old boy could dream of, including the invitation to mindlessly couple with one of the bright

Watchmen
Watchmen, by DC Comics, should be considered a literary work for its great use of realism and
deconstruction, storytelling and subplots, and the focus on personal character development and their
moral codes. Watchmen utilizes these aspects in a way that makes the reader change the way they
think about their popular culture and what is valuable to them. These aspects help solidify the idea
that Watchmen is the first in a new breed of comics, one in which they make the transition from
fantasy to literature. It is a work that is recognized by many as a revolutionary comic series, and is
even lauded as one of the best novels and most significant works of the 20th century. It has
solidified its place as a cultural classic in America and it would be injudicious to not see Watchmen
as a literary work.
In order to see Watchmen as a literary work, one must understand what that is. A classic is a literary
work our culture studies due to its ability to maintain being conventional, or popular, and relevant
despite times changing. When people think of an American classic, people think of stories like
Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, and John Steinbeck's
The Grapes of Wrath. In these novels, the authors utilize certain aspects of language, such as intense
character development, subplots, and realism, and ties them together to create great, detailed

Despite this passage's emphasis on stillness, however, it nevertheless features two references to

The profession of the contemporary newspaper typist saw a change in corporate culture wherein the
clock became a powerful object, owned only by the foreman and governing the employees. It seems,
however, that Moore's depiction of time is more appropriately a reflection of Ginger's fixation on the
myth of the new world as a land of boundless opportunity. Indeed, the clock does seem to be
independent of the diurnal cycle: "As [Coffey] started off, the sun moved west, unadmitted by the
pall clouds which all day had curtained the frozen river and the city islanded within it . . . Four
forty–five" (117). This image of the sun being blocked from the city by clouds demonstrates the
city's apparent ignorance for the sun's position in the sky, yet the passage continues on, repeatedly
referring to the passing minutes as Coffey makes his way to the Tribune. One thing that time does
not seem so independent from, however, is the lives of the office workers in the financial district,
"waiting release as the minute hand moved slowly towards the hour" (117). At "five o'clock . . .
down came the office workers, spilling out into the streets" (117); at "five–thirty . . . [another]

The Philosopher And The Filmmaker Michael Moore
At every point in history there are individuals who disagree with the norms of his or her society and
who advocate for social and political change. These individuals are referred to as agitators. While
these agitators come from across different historical time periods and locations some of them have
quite a bit in common. Even from as early as 399 BC to 2002, from as far as Athens, Greece to the
United States, there are agitators that had similar motivations and ways of achieving them. An
example would be the philosopher Socrates and the filmmaker Michael Moore. Despite some small
differences in approach, these two have many significant similarities as agitators. The most obvious
similarity between Socrates and Moore is that they are agitators, but it is more than them just
advocating social and political change. It 's the methods in which they did so that were so similar.
Both of them seemed to address issues or put forth information that generated a lot of discomfort
