Velázquez was a Spanish painter born in 1599 who died in 1660. Some of his most famous paintings, including Las Meninas, Las Hilanderas, and La Fragua de Vulcano can be found in the Museo del Prado in Madrid. Las Meninas depicts the Spanish royal family and their entourage and Velázquez used a mirror to include himself in the painting. Las Hilanderas tells the story of Athena challenging Arachne to a weaving competition, while La Fragua de Vulcano depicts the god Vulcano visiting a group who are forging an armor. All three paintings were created by Velázquez and are now housed in the Muse
