There are three powers in the European Union (E.U.): the legislative, executive, and judicial powers. The legislative power makes the laws and includes the European Council, Council of the E.U., and European Parliament. The executive power puts the laws into practice and includes the European Commission. The judicial power judges if laws are obeyed and includes the Court of Justice. Each power has specific institutions that make up its structure and roles within the E.U.
