Alabama State University Scholarship
My name is Destiny Nichelle Blanks and I reside in Pennington, Alabama. I was born in Meridian,
Mississippi on January 12, 1995 in Rush Hospital. I am twenty years old, an African American, and
I am single. Growing up church is all I knew, I was that little girl my peers used to say, "You be in
church Monday through Sunday", which didn't offend me at all. I would like to say as far as my
religion I am a Baptist and I believe in God. Currently I attend The Alabama State University
majoring in Social Work. I do not have a job but I do have work–study here on campus where I do
my hours at the Comptroller's Office. All through life it has been God, family, and education and all
these things have motivated me to keep going and it has gotten me ... Show more content on

I always loved to play softball. I was so good I skipped tee ball and when straight to the big leagues
which was coach pitch. These ages were the six and seven year olds. I used to play every base and I
could run like a firecracker. As I got older I picked a base to be my specialty which was second and
my favorite jersey number was number one. I started softball at the age six and played all the way
till I graduated from high school. Through all those years I have won many trophies and awards, for
instance I made the All–County Teams and I got player of the year. When I got into high school I
picked up the sports basketball and cheerleading. Once I started both it took me awhile to fall in
love with basketball but cheerleading I instantly liked it. I liked cheerleading because it showed my
girly side a little and I started when I was in the 10th grade. I started basketball when I was in the
7th grade and it was hard work just like softball but I had to have more self–discipline. It took me a
while before I became a pro but by the 9th grade I was playing with varsity and balling like Candace
Parker. Like softball by senior year I also made All–County, player of the year, and most valuable
player. At every game I could always look up and my family would be there, either cheering me on
or giving me tips on what to do better. Not only were sports important to me but my grades were
more. I always wanted to be top of my class and have all A's. I have always been on the honor roll
ever since I could remember and wouldn't dare miss getting my name put in the paper or getting
paid by my family members, which still happens till this day. Also why in school I join the JROTC,
not because I wanted to be in the Army but it was just something I was interested to do. There we
went to the nursing home to sing to the elderly and we kept our campus cleaned. Also I served as

A Girl Meeting The World For The First Time
Like many black womanist scholars, my life's story is arbitrarily filled with the same idea of a girl
meeting the world for the first time. My mother would often bore me with stories of my birth by
explicitly describing how I emerged from her hollow womb that held my black skin captive for nine
months. She would then expound me with tales of how she met my father in hopes of me seeking
out the same life of domesticity that had been upheld in her family. As a nine year old, I knew better
than to oppose my mother's appreciation of the politics of respectability and the life of domesticity. I
learned this after my mother punished my gender nonconformity with a Barbie guitar and baby dolls
that I often used as boomerangs when arguing with my sisters. As I navigated through adolescence,
my mother found it useful to give me the girl's talk and to instruct me on a woman's religious
obligation to bear fruit. As she continued to rant, I could feel my lips spell out a phrase that helped
me to learn that I was a feminist: I don't want to have children. After receiving harsh criticism from
my mother, I concealed my inner thoughts. It was not until college that I began to write in additional
choices for my life. By being a member of university that celebrates an array of ideas in spite of
society's conviction of tradition, I decided to pursue a degree that has always been my passion:
Gender and Race Studies. In turn, this fueled my desire to enter in the Women's Studies program

The University Of Alabama And I Possess A Common Vision
The University of Alabama and I possess a common vision: We are committed to enhancing the
quality of life, not only for Alabamians, but for citizens of the nation and the world. There are
numerous reasons I am pursuing the admission to the University of Alabama. First, the University of
Alabama is nationally ranked as an affordable graduate program and is among the top five percent
of nursing schools. Second, the academic content in the Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse
Practitioner program provides a strong advanced primary care base in support of caring for patients
with common psychiatric/mental health problems. Furthermore, I am drawn to the University of
Alabama's continuous support of military veterans. I have had the privilege of serving in the Air
Force for 8 years. There is an impressive amount of acceptance and support for military veterans
through the numerous scholarships and Veterans Career Advancement in Nursing initiative.
Throughout my 5 years working as a psychiatric nurse I have faced many challenges with ensuring
adequate and successful outcomes of the many patients I have encountered. Mental illness isn't a
disease that you can cure, treat with a Band–Aid, or suture; it's a lifelong problem patients can
struggle with that many times comes with a negative stigma. I truly believe that the University of
Alabama will give me guidance and the education necessary to help the underserved population and
to provide better patient outcomes. Psychiatric nursing

The Ladies held on for their third win of the season, knocking off the Warriors in the second game
of a doubleheader as Centenary (3–9) fell in game one, 7–3, the Hendrix (8–6) before rebounding

Mike Super Magic Show Research Paper
For my campus involvement project, I attended four UNK events which included a Mike Super
magic show, a glowrage, dragshow, and a football game. All events were really enjoyable and while
most of the events I went to weren't particularly "educational", I feel like I learned some important
information and gained social experiences. The Mike Super Magic show was put on by LPac on
October 23, 2015. Mike Super was the winner of the NBC show, Phenomenon. He's an illusionist
who currently tours the US and Canada. When I went to his show, I thought it was going to be card
tricks that would have been easy to figure out later on the internet. However, I was very wrong. The
tricks that he did seemed absolutely impossible for a human being to do without some spiritual force
behind it all. He even called on his "friend" Desmond to help him with a couple particular tricks.
Some of the tricks he performed included a women holding an empty glass pitcher over a trash can.
He had us force our energy towards the pitcher as he called on his friend Desmond. After a couple ...

I went with a couple friends not really knowing what to expect since it was the first show I've
attended. The dragshow was interesting to say the least. The contestants of the show would dance
while people would throw money at them. I felt like I was at a strip club at points. As a believer in
God I don't think he makes mistakes when it comes to people's gender, however I do believe he still
loves everybody regardless of how they think of themselves. It was interesting to see how people
present and express themselves in ways that others don't. I think it's very important for Christians to
understand that hating others for their beliefs isn't going to make them want to be a follower of God.
Learning to love these people regardless of how they see themselves is a daily task I'm working on

The Unique History of Alabama State University Essay
The Unique History of Alabama State University
"One must return to the past in order to move forward", is an old African proverb that has been used
to explain the purpose of studying history. This African proverb not only refers to the study of
American history, but also the study of one's family history. Another saying that has been used to
refer to the study of history is, "You must learn your history, or you are bound to repeat it." These
principles can apply to education as well. The purpose of attending college is to receive a formal
education. The proper approach to begin college level studies is to learn your school's history.

After these schools were established, it was still hard for a former–salve to obtain an education. Fisk
University for example, only admitted those who were the children of a female slave and a white
male, normally a slave master. Many schools during this time period adapted this same entrance
criterion. A southern school, Lincoln Normal School, did not have any bias principles rooted in their
entrance process. Peyton Finley founded Lincoln Normal School, present–day Alabama State
University in 1867, in Marion, Alabama. Peyton Finley is also noted for being the first African
American appointed to the Alabama State Board of Education. Finley's involvement with the board
of education allowed him to get the American Missionary Association and the Freemen's Bureau to
provide books, supplies, teachers, and finances for the new school. However, in 1864, the American
Missionary Association went bankrupt, and could no longer support Lincoln Normal School.
Therefore, the African American community in Marion, Alabama supported the financial needs of
the school. In 1874, Lincoln Normal School became the first state supported institution in Alabama.
Prior to this significant event in the school's history, George N. Card became the first president of
the institution in 1873. George N. Card is mostly noted for serving as president when the Lincoln
Normal School became the nation's first state supported Liberal Arts College for African American.

Summary Of Email Phising
Email phishing, one scheme of internet scamming, is a problematic issue in society as it causes
millions of people to fall victim to identity theft and financial exploit. Acts such as this could not be
more apparent at The University of Alabama during its 2013–2014 school term, when an email
headlined "New Year Upgrading" surfaced its way into the inboxes of UA students. In his article
"University OIT warns of phishing scams" for The Crimson White, author Josh Sigler cautions
students of The University of Alabama to be wary of false advertisement and to refrain from
providing personal information, if uncertain. Sigler attests why UA students should be as alert as

acquire information about all the latest events and issues in order to keep in touch with campus
activities. Sigler utilizes The Crimson White because more than 15,000 papers are circulated on the
UA campus, therefore his claim is delivered and available to his projected audience. Sigler chooses
to publish his claim in The Crimson White newsletter rather than a newsletter that is local or
international, specifically because of its relevance to UA students having greater significance on
them, oppose to people who do not attend The University of Alabama. The time frame Sigler chose
to address the email phishing issue served a great deal as well. Sigler addressed that UA students
should be cautious of email phishing in early January because the topic of discussion was still a
relevant issue since it took place in the fall; this action demonstrates Sigler's persistence to grasp his

The University Of Alabama And University At Birmingham
Deciding on a four year university to transfer to can be a very stressful decision. Talking to
recruiters from many different schools has revealed one thing; they all believe their school is the
best. Recruiters are not going to disclose the problem areas of their programs, nor highlight areas
where other schools are stronger. Therefore, leaving students to compare and contrast, everything
the schools offer, and attempt to make an informed decision. When comparing the different
electrical engineering programs, it seemed that every school claimed to be the most innovative, and
had the ability to offer the most opportunities to their students. When looking specifically at the
University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham it became evident that their
programs were very similar. Both schools require the same computer and engineering seminar
classes and both require that their students achieve a "C" or higher in their math and science
courses. Where they truly stood out from one another is in their transfer requirements, the
organizations available on campus, and the cost of attendance. As a transfer student, one of the most
important aspects of choosing any college is making sure that all of the requirements can be met.
The University of Alabama requires that to transfer in, the student must have maintained a 2.0 GPA
on a 4.0 scale, which is a "C" average. They also require that to be classified as a transfer student
versus a freshman student,

My Job At Walgreens At The University Of Alabama
Diversity constitutes a multitude of variations and differences. Everyone has distinct features that
differentiate him or her from the one another. Whether short or tall, big or small, we are diversified.
In order to help others, to change the world, or to create social cohesiveness, thorough knowledge
and experience with diversity is necessary. For this matter, social work is positioned around
diversity ethics and as a social worker one must proactively work with a diversified population
throughout his or her professional career. Even though I have always had a strong interest in the
social work profession, having numerous personal experiences with diversity allowed me to further
realize that I had a passion to help people no matter who or what they are. The two experiences that
I have had involving diversity and that I recollect the most are that of adjustments I had to make as a
student at The University of Alabama and experiences that I have had throughout my three years on
my current job at Walgreens.

The University Of Alabama 's Police Department 's Gun Policy
A major issue in the United States is gun control. Due to multiple mass shootings in schools and
public areas, restrictions regarding guns have been implemented across the United States. Andrew
Parks, a student at The University of Alabama, wrote an article against gun restrictions. His article,
"The University should allow concealed carry," supports the idea of college campuses like The
University of Alabama, allowing students to conceal carry firearms. In an article written by Jennie
Kushner, the opinions of students on the University of Alabama's Police Department's gun policy
are presented. The safety of student body relies on the students' feeling safe. That safety comes from
less gun control laws and policies on campus. Each of the articles stated provides information
against gun control in different ways. In the first article, "The University should allow concealed
carry," by Andrew Parks, statistics are used to support his argument on allowing concealed carry at
The University of Alabama. Parks includes the rarity of a shooting in Texas, his home state. He
claims, " The last time such a shooting took place in the general public was on Oct. 16, 1991"
(Parks). The reason for the rarity of a shooting in Texas is due to the gun laws not being as strict as
most states. Parks believes what many other Americans believe, that allowing citizens to carry
firearms is a deterrent to crime and shootings. The following statistics prove Parks' belief that
conceal carry reduces

A Leader And An Ethical Leader Essay
Paul "Bear" Bryant Paul "Bear" Bryant once ended a quote with "the price of victory is high, but so
are the rewards." (King & King, 2006, p. 53). That still rings true today as leaders look back on their
journeys, and the substantial price that it took in reaching their vision. I claim Paul "Bear" Bryant
was indeed a visionary leader and an ethical leader as he continuously rallied countless men around
a common goal of excellence and effectively guided them to achieve that very goal not only on the
football field but in life. He was able to do so by having a strong understanding of diversity and the
impact it had in the building of his coaches and players, as well as what it took to advance those
individuals toward the vision by way of transformational leadership and effective use of
Inspirational Motivation. Bryant often led by example, and some of these examples were displayed
in the way he chose to stay true to principles and avoid ethical traps in his disciplining of star
quarterback, Joe Namath. He further displayed his ethical style in leading his team through racial
integration in the early 1970's by having the open–mindedness and intellectual courage it took to
make that unpopular decision. In the next few pages, I will display how Bryant was a visionary and
ethical leader, and then reflect on the visionary and ethical leadership experiences within my own
career: how I used diversity and inspirational motivation in reaching our F–35 goal at Hill AFB, and

Personal Narrative: My First Day At The University Of Alabama
Before my senior year of high school, I never expected to be so far away, and in such a distant
place. I was initially drawn to Tuscaloosa by scholarships but did not have any idea what to expect
once I arrived here in late August. I can distinctly recall my first day at Alabama, it was one of the
most confusing experiences I had ever been through. Walking from my dormitory to my first class,
chemistry, felt like a dream, and the start of what I knew to be an important chapter of my life. Fear
and uncertainty hijacked the typical emotion of excitement first year college students usually
possess. Part of this anxiety, I believe, is due to the importance of scholastic success in my situation,
specifically. I had known since middle school that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

unpredictable, and that the way I handle these uncertainties determines my capabilities as a person.

The Negative Effects Of Binge Watching Television
It's become a nationwide reality. It is now seen as commonplace for people to spend excessive
amounts of time staring at the TV with glassy eyes and a hazed mentality just for the sake of
running through a show like how a college student crams before a big test. Binge–watching is seen
as acceptable, but in reality it is extremely unhealthy and detrimental. Despite this, it is considered a
sport for some people. Many people binge–bond with other people to make connections. This trend
became big around 2011 when 3 critically–acclaimed TV shows appeared on the video steaming
service Netflix. It quickly became a well–known phenomenon, and the negative effects revealed
themselves just as fast.
Andrew Goldman, HBO/Cinemax vice president of program planning, said, "college students are
more likely to binge watch than adults because they are not set to regular schedules or busy
spending time with spouses or children" (Wheeler 2). Binge watching television gives people an
immediate satisfaction which explains this behavior. According to a 2013 Nielsen study, use of the 3
largest video streaming services: Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video increased by 7%, 6%, and
6% respectively from 2012 to 2013. In Amazon's case, the usage almost doubled. The Crimson

has successfully recruited a student to attend, the next step is providing an unrivaled and fulfilling
student experience. Robert Steinberg, a former mathematician at the University of California at Los

for the university in the form of ticket sales, apparel sales, and various other ways to make money
from athletics.. The athletic department posted a $21.2 million surplus in 2013, a number which has
only gone up since then (Solomon). This money then goes back into the university to finance the
creation of new buildings or events. In the university's 2016 financial report, a few of the many
improvements the university is actively making to the campus were listed. North Lawn Hall, which
includes a total of 12 classrooms and 1,919 seats, is listed on the report, costing $21.7 million to

of the band and an avid attendee of classes in North Lawn Hall, I'm personally benefitting from both
financial ventures the university has taken. While these facilities may not have been built directly

Physical Environment Of Football
The physical environment of an event can affect the way spectators view the activity that is being
held at an event. In this instance, the physical environment of a stadium can affect the way
spectators view the game of football. The overall stadium experience a spectator may have depends
heavily on some of the physical aspects of the stadium's environment. If the experience is positive,
then the desire to visit the stadium again will be more likely. If the overall experience is negative,
then more than likely the spectator will not return. In my research, I have found that The University
of Alabama does a great job at keeping their attendance up at their football games. While many
people seem to have an overall positive experience at the stadium, there are also some areas that
could be improved. There are over thirty–seven thousand students that attend The University of
Alabama. The college is well–known for its championship football team who reigns in the
Southeastern conference of every year. You can probably imagine the enormous population that is in
attendance at each football game. Winning championships is not the only thing that keeps the fans
coming. The physical aspects of the stadium are appealing enough to keep the fans coming as well.
Alabama does a great job at maintaining attendance, but because there are so many people I would
suggest them opening up more space for convenient parking. Almost every Saturday in the fall there
are thousands of people racing to

Gorgas Museum Report
From Ruins to Recourses
Located in the Quad, standing tall is a building that represents critical and memorable moments in
history. The University of Alabama is home to the beautiful Amelia Gorgas Library. This is where
students can go study, relax, eat, check out books, and socialize. The library was built in 1939 and is
located at the site of the first original library on campus. During the Civil War the original building
was known as the Rotunda. It was a military school for the confederate army. In 1865 Rotunda was
burned down by troops sent to destroy the educational buildings on campus. In its place Gorgas
library was built. As you stand on the concrete steps looking down at the semi–circle court in front
of Gorgas, there are remains from the original building. Architects purposely made these designs to

Out of all the places to study and do homework here at Alabama, Gorgas is by far my favorite. I
have yet to experience any ghostly encounters but if I keep going there enough hopefully I will have
some of my own stories to tell one day. Being the most eye catching building on campus Gorgas is
hard to miss and hard to forget. Its massive structure is supported out front by eight large concreate
pillars. The pillars are carved top to bottom with detail and complete the overall look of the
building. The main entrance of the building faces the center of the quad. The concrete steps leading
up to the front doors are often filled with students sitting out enjoying the beautiful Alabama sun,
and doing homework or waiting to meet up with friends. All the students at the university love
Gorgas and it is most definitely being used to its full potential. Amelia Gorgas would be so proud to
see what has come of her library today and would be honored to see what success and joy it brings

question asked during the period of an incident is who should blame for the unfortunate event and

The Public Educational System Of The University Of Alabama
As an undergraduate at the University of Alabama, I enjoy conversing on ways that citizens can
make a change in public policy regarding the educational system, specifically the public educational
system that so many children undergo. Naturally, when I received notification on the upcoming
2015 Institute on Teaching and Mentoring, I immediately began the application process. I was
particularly drawn to this specific conference in order to have conversations about, what I feel, is an
inadequate educational system plaguing our country. In my college environment, many students
come from privileged backgrounds which hinders them from understanding the educational
restraints that low income public schools face every day. Being able to talk with people who may or
may not share similar views as myself has always been essential for my continuing success. Being
part of a minority, I am continuously searching for professional development programs that
challenge my analytical thinking on sociopolitical issues affecting this country, such as the
educational system and how it correlates with poverty, and other countries across the globe. Every
semester, I constantly enroll in classes where I know that I will learn about topics that would not be
conversed openly. Thus, this conference will help me to network with other students and hear
conflicting perspectives that will help me to speak on these issues in a public environment and, most
of all, my college campus. In my future, I would like

Auburn University Vs. Alabama Rivalry
Auburn University Versus University of Alabama Caitlyn Camp 3 period Avid How many of you

just be the biggest and longest rivalry in College Football. This rivalry is +100 years old. The rivalry
is most likely the craziest rivalry in college sports. From the way, they earned their slogans to what
the fans have done to each other. My side is Auburn, your side may be 'Bama, but let me ask you
this, what's more important, statistics and championships, or close friendships and having the most

Roll Tide Pride : Roll Tide Pride
"Roll Tide Pride"
My earliest memories are growing up in the state of Alabama surrounded by my loving family.
Alabama was and still is my home, where I was raised since the age of two to become the person I
am today. At the age of twelve, circumstances made me move back to San Benito, Texas where my
mom grew up. Even though my teenage years have been spent here, I have always dreamt of
returning to Alabama. Leaving behind friends, family, and the familiarity of home was a difficult
transition that I had to make and it still is hard to adjust. As the choice of deciding where I want to
go to college grows drastically closer, my mind and heart are pulling me to the University of
Alabama. Living there since we had no NFL ( National Football League) team we were focused on
our two college football teams, one being the University of Alabama and the other being Auburn
University. My family was always rooting for alabama while I was going for Auburn and still till
this day too, but since the University of alabama is closer to my hometown where my family
currently lives I want to go there. Alabama University "is a large, 4–year, public university. This
college is located in a small city in a suburban setting and is primarily a residential campus. It offers
bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees," (College Board).

My project for my orientation class was on the homeless student of Alabama A&M University

decided on a can good drive for the homeless. We decided to give whatever donation we receive will
go towards our school pantry at the Wellness gym. To begin the project, we were allowed to choice
what group we would like to work in. I pick research since I'm also my computer and addicted to
technology. The research group was to find information on homeless college students or homeless
students of A&M and find any resources available to assist students facing this type of situation.
During my research, I learned that many students in college are usually kicked out due to not being
able to pay their tuition or were homeless from the start. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I also learned during breaks those students don't have anywhere to go, so they often sleep in tunnels,
abandon houses or even on campus. I learned that a homeless person isn't so different from me,
they're not dirty, nor have poor hygiene, they try not to stand out and often no one knows about their
problems. "Over 58,000 students identified as homeless on the 2013 Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) , a 75 percent increase over the last three years ( FAFSA data)". The
Huntsville's homeless count drops 22 percent since 2014 but includes more families. I also fought
out there are over 10 homeless shelters in Huntsville, Alabama , and there are many food pantries all
of the city. I also learned it's really hard for a homeless person to get a job because some job
applications requires a home address, drivers license, and bank account. Those things aren't so easy
to obtain, they requires so many information and

Students At The University Of Alabama
The number of students attending the University of Alabama has reached a new high of 37,100. That
number is a 2.4% increase from 2014 (uanews.ua.edu). As the number of students is predicted only
to increase in the years to come, the University must reflect on the housing options for these 37,100
students. Freshman students required to live on campus face a difficult situation––lack of housing.
With that being said, the best and most efficient way to cope with the ever growing population is to
allow freshmen to live off campus, and build more apartments around campus to allow thousands of
more students to have places to live in the future. Providing housing on campus for nearly 8,000
freshman students is nearly impossible. The Presidential Villages house 1,840 students. Blout,
Bryant, Bryce Lawn, Burke, Friedman, The Highlands, Lakeside, Parham, Paty, Ridgecrest,
Riverside, Somerville, and Tutwiler house roughly 5,000 more students. These freshman options
barely fit the ever growing number of new students coming to Alabama. The University of Alabama
board of trustees recently approved a $124 million dollar project to tear down and rebuild Julia
Tutwiler Dorms. The dorm currently houses 1,000 freshman girls. The Tutwiler Dorms are due to be
torn down at the end of the 2017 Spring Semester. The new building is scheduled to be finished in

addition to children with cerebral palsy and spina bifida, Rise served children with Down syndrome
and other developmental disabilities. The staff had expanded to include teachers, teacher assistants,
the family service coordinator and consulting speech, physical, and occupational therapists.
One of the many teachers to work at Rise is Nicole Griffin. Nicole has been one of Rises most

Statement of Purpose to Become a Nursing Student at...
Since my first day in nursing school, I have always looked forward to the day I become a family
nurse practitioner (FNP). Among the driving forces and strengths being that apart from being the
first nurse in the family, I graduated with a degree in nursing making me a source of inspiration
within the family. Additionally, I will be the first to graduate with a master's degree in the family
given this opportunity. Besides, I wish to be a source of motivation and inspiration to many nurses
who wish to advance their nursing careers. It is through a demonstration of what is possible and
mentoring them through that I can make a positive change among fellow nurses. Since I graduated
about three years ago, I have worked with many patients and clients that require much of the
required advanced nursing skills that I seek. Equipped with such skills, I will be at a better position
to adequately, competently and confidently–assist the adult patients and clients. In fact, nursing is a
passion allowing me to serve the community and at the same time be a light in someone's disease
process darkness. I wish to live to learn broadly, to serve others generously and courageously lead
other fellow nurses. Since I graduated three years ago, I have had two certifications in Basic Life
Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), which have enabled to work
effectively at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA as a RN, in GI and Pulmonologist labs.

Student Politics: The Machine
"It's not a place for the fainthearted. Student politics at Alabama are as rigorous as the student

secret organization known as "The Machine". This organization was formed in order to ensure that
the Greeks would have total control over the Student Government Association(SGA). Each year
when elections roll around The Machine places their nominations for each government position. In
years past at the University of Alabama this organization has done whatever it took to ensure their

University officials must be willing to recognize the faults of The Machine, and be willing to punish
those faults. An example would be placing all fraternities and sororities that are involved in the
organization on probation until they terminate their involvement. Without sororities and fraternities,
the organization does not exist. The biggest change will come when non–Greek students unify and
fight this organization together. An organization so ingrained in tradition will not end overnight, but
the University of Alabama has to start somewhere. The secret organization known as "The Machine"
must come to an end, and a new chapter in politics must begin. Works Cited

To accomplish great things, you must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe". I
have given great consideration and planning into continuing my education and pursing an advanced
degree in nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Over the last nine months, I
have researched many advanced practice nursing programs and UAB offers the MSN online
program of my interest. The online program will enable the opportunity to continue working and
allow for the application of newly learned principles and skills to my every day nursing practice. I
believe UAB will offer the opportunities required to excel as a mastered–prepared nurse. The
Family Nurse Practitioner specialty is my primary area of interest. Becoming a Family Nurse
Practitioner will give me the advanced training needed to provide primary care, preventive health
services, and education to all ages. My second choice is the Adult–Gero Nurse specialy program. As
an adult gero nurse practitioner I will deliver the same services and care as a family nurse
practitioner with the exception to the pediatric population.
I have been a registered nurse for two years. Prior to becoming a registered nurse, I was a licensed

The University of Alabama Faculty Jazz Band along with guest player, Bill Peterson the jazz pianist,

players were extremely creative and they managed to tell a story and create beautiful imageries

As we moved further along, the bass player, Chris Kozak took over. He slowly emerges from the
silence as he carefully tapped the cymbals. The dynamic remained piano as the tempo gradually gets
faster (accelerando). This heightened the tension before they all began to play together at 12:26 and
returned to the initial mezzo forte dynamic of the piece. Towards the end, a characteristic of African
music was highlighted where they performed a series of call and response. It was thrilling to hear
this. My favorite part of the concert was the second part. The group played a song called "Body and
Soul." The guitarist played slowly before the others joined. They created a relaxed atmosphere with
an old–school effect. All the notes were legato except the melodies of the drum which was staccato.
The combination added character to the piece and made it entertaining. At 19:00, the pianist played
briskly but beautifully, then the guitarist did the same. The notes became high pitched and the tempo
and dynamics increased. After the guitar stopped, everything went into decrescendo and the
melodies from the bass and drums became choppy (staccato). Overall the piece surrounded the
theme of dependence and how it affects one's happiness or strength. The piano and the guitar
brought the happy aspect to the piece and without it, everything weakened and became
uncoordinated. Initially it celebrated peace,

Alabama A&M is better known as Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. This is a

was built in Normal AL. Its first president, Dr. William Hooper Council, an ex–slave, established
this university. In 1875 Alabama officials used the Morrill Act of 1862 that allowed state

of seventeen new land–grant black institutions established under the Morrill Act. When the doors of
the school swung open in 1875 the name was Huntsville Normal School and was located in
downtown Huntsville, Alabama. The school consisted of only 61 students and 2 teachers. In 1878
the school developed an industrial education program, and due to the success of the program the
school petitioned to change its name to State Normal and Industrial School in Huntsville. The
Alabama Legislature approved their request and also rose the funding from 1,000 dollars to 4,000

Alabama State University Scholarship

  • 1. Alabama State University Scholarship My name is Destiny Nichelle Blanks and I reside in Pennington, Alabama. I was born in Meridian, Mississippi on January 12, 1995 in Rush Hospital. I am twenty years old, an African American, and I am single. Growing up church is all I knew, I was that little girl my peers used to say, "You be in church Monday through Sunday", which didn't offend me at all. I would like to say as far as my religion I am a Baptist and I believe in God. Currently I attend The Alabama State University majoring in Social Work. I do not have a job but I do have work–study here on campus where I do my hours at the Comptroller's Office. All through life it has been God, family, and education and all these things have motivated me to keep going and it has gotten me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I always loved to play softball. I was so good I skipped tee ball and when straight to the big leagues which was coach pitch. These ages were the six and seven year olds. I used to play every base and I could run like a firecracker. As I got older I picked a base to be my specialty which was second and my favorite jersey number was number one. I started softball at the age six and played all the way till I graduated from high school. Through all those years I have won many trophies and awards, for instance I made the All–County Teams and I got player of the year. When I got into high school I picked up the sports basketball and cheerleading. Once I started both it took me awhile to fall in love with basketball but cheerleading I instantly liked it. I liked cheerleading because it showed my girly side a little and I started when I was in the 10th grade. I started basketball when I was in the 7th grade and it was hard work just like softball but I had to have more self–discipline. It took me a while before I became a pro but by the 9th grade I was playing with varsity and balling like Candace Parker. Like softball by senior year I also made All–County, player of the year, and most valuable player. At every game I could always look up and my family would be there, either cheering me on or giving me tips on what to do better. Not only were sports important to me but my grades were more. I always wanted to be top of my class and have all A's. I have always been on the honor roll ever since I could remember and wouldn't dare miss getting my name put in the paper or getting paid by my family members, which still happens till this day. Also why in school I join the JROTC, not because I wanted to be in the Army but it was just something I was interested to do. There we went to the nursing home to sing to the elderly and we kept our campus cleaned. Also I served as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. A Girl Meeting The World For The First Time Like many black womanist scholars, my life's story is arbitrarily filled with the same idea of a girl meeting the world for the first time. My mother would often bore me with stories of my birth by explicitly describing how I emerged from her hollow womb that held my black skin captive for nine months. She would then expound me with tales of how she met my father in hopes of me seeking out the same life of domesticity that had been upheld in her family. As a nine year old, I knew better than to oppose my mother's appreciation of the politics of respectability and the life of domesticity. I learned this after my mother punished my gender nonconformity with a Barbie guitar and baby dolls that I often used as boomerangs when arguing with my sisters. As I navigated through adolescence, my mother found it useful to give me the girl's talk and to instruct me on a woman's religious obligation to bear fruit. As she continued to rant, I could feel my lips spell out a phrase that helped me to learn that I was a feminist: I don't want to have children. After receiving harsh criticism from my mother, I concealed my inner thoughts. It was not until college that I began to write in additional choices for my life. By being a member of university that celebrates an array of ideas in spite of society's conviction of tradition, I decided to pursue a degree that has always been my passion: Gender and Race Studies. In turn, this fueled my desire to enter in the Women's Studies program here at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The University Of Alabama And I Possess A Common Vision The University of Alabama and I possess a common vision: We are committed to enhancing the quality of life, not only for Alabamians, but for citizens of the nation and the world. There are numerous reasons I am pursuing the admission to the University of Alabama. First, the University of Alabama is nationally ranked as an affordable graduate program and is among the top five percent of nursing schools. Second, the academic content in the Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program provides a strong advanced primary care base in support of caring for patients with common psychiatric/mental health problems. Furthermore, I am drawn to the University of Alabama's continuous support of military veterans. I have had the privilege of serving in the Air Force for 8 years. There is an impressive amount of acceptance and support for military veterans through the numerous scholarships and Veterans Career Advancement in Nursing initiative. Throughout my 5 years working as a psychiatric nurse I have faced many challenges with ensuring adequate and successful outcomes of the many patients I have encountered. Mental illness isn't a disease that you can cure, treat with a Band–Aid, or suture; it's a lifelong problem patients can struggle with that many times comes with a negative stigma. I truly believe that the University of Alabama will give me guidance and the education necessary to help the underserved population and to provide better patient outcomes. Psychiatric nursing ... • 4. Indian Ladies Case Study The Ladies held on for their third win of the season, knocking off the Warriors in the second game of a doubleheader as Centenary (3–9) fell in game one, 7–3, the Hendrix (8–6) before rebounding for an 8–6 win in game two Sunday afternoon, March 12. Junior Anna Dunn added an RBI single in the first and a two–run home run in the seventh inning of game two for the Ladies. She finished the game 3–for–4 with a double, her first round–tripper of the season, three runs scored, and three RBI's. Dunn added a two–run home run in the top of the seventh, the first round–tripper of the season for the Ladies. While Centenary led 8–1 at the time, it need the runs as the home team struck for five in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Nichole Aldridge (3–4) took the win in the circle, throwing six innings and allowing 10 hits (four in the seventh) and six runs (five earned) while striking out four and walking one. Entering the game with the bases loaded and three–runs scored in the seventh, sophomore Makenzie Stewart picked up the save, allowing one hit and one walk in an inning pitched. Down seven entering the bottom of the seventh, Hendrix struck for six and had the winning run on base. Hannah Billings singled, Aubrey Brink was hit by a pitch, and Victoria Hughes singled up the middle to begin the inning off Aldridge. • 5. Mike Super Magic Show Research Paper For my campus involvement project, I attended four UNK events which included a Mike Super magic show, a glowrage, dragshow, and a football game. All events were really enjoyable and while most of the events I went to weren't particularly "educational", I feel like I learned some important information and gained social experiences. The Mike Super Magic show was put on by LPac on October 23, 2015. Mike Super was the winner of the NBC show, Phenomenon. He's an illusionist who currently tours the US and Canada. When I went to his show, I thought it was going to be card tricks that would have been easy to figure out later on the internet. However, I was very wrong. The tricks that he did seemed absolutely impossible for a human being to do without some spiritual force behind it all. He even called on his "friend" Desmond to help him with a couple particular tricks. Some of the tricks he performed included a women holding an empty glass pitcher over a trash can. I went with a couple friends not really knowing what to expect since it was the first show I've attended. The dragshow was interesting to say the least. The contestants of the show would dance while people would throw money at them. I felt like I was at a strip club at points. As a believer in God I don't think he makes mistakes when it comes to people's gender, however I do believe he still loves everybody regardless of how they think of themselves. It was interesting to see how people present and express themselves in ways that others don't. I think it's very important for Christians to understand that hating others for their beliefs isn't going to make them want to be a follower of God. • 6. The Unique History of Alabama State University Essay The Unique History of Alabama State University "One must return to the past in order to move forward", is an old African proverb that has been used to explain the purpose of studying history. This African proverb not only refers to the study of American history, but also the study of one's family history. Another saying that has been used to refer to the study of history is, "You must learn your history, or you are bound to repeat it." These principles can apply to education as well. The purpose of attending college is to receive a formal education. The proper approach to begin college level studies is to learn your school's history. Enlightenment of the difficulties and barriers during the early stages of a school's development; in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After these schools were established, it was still hard for a former–salve to obtain an education. Fisk University for example, only admitted those who were the children of a female slave and a white male, normally a slave master. Many schools during this time period adapted this same entrance criterion. A southern school, Lincoln Normal School, did not have any bias principles rooted in their entrance process. Peyton Finley founded Lincoln Normal School, present–day Alabama State University in 1867, in Marion, Alabama. Peyton Finley is also noted for being the first African American appointed to the Alabama State Board of Education. Finley's involvement with the board of education allowed him to get the American Missionary Association and the Freemen's Bureau to provide books, supplies, teachers, and finances for the new school. However, in 1864, the American Missionary Association went bankrupt, and could no longer support Lincoln Normal School. Therefore, the African American community in Marion, Alabama supported the financial needs of the school. In 1874, Lincoln Normal School became the first state supported institution in Alabama. Prior to this significant event in the school's history, George N. Card became the first president of the institution in 1873. George N. Card is mostly noted for serving as president when the Lincoln Normal School became the nation's first state supported Liberal Arts College for African American. Card also established Alabama ... • 8. Summary Of Email Phising Email phishing, one scheme of internet scamming, is a problematic issue in society as it causes millions of people to fall victim to identity theft and financial exploit. Acts such as this could not be more apparent at The University of Alabama during its 2013–2014 school term, when an email headlined "New Year Upgrading" surfaced its way into the inboxes of UA students. In his article "University OIT warns of phishing scams" for The Crimson White, author Josh Sigler cautions students of The University of Alabama to be wary of false advertisement and to refrain from providing personal information, if uncertain. Sigler utilizes The Crimson White because more than 15,000 papers are circulated on the UA campus, therefore his claim is delivered and available to his projected audience. Sigler chooses to publish his claim in The Crimson White newsletter rather than a newsletter that is local or international, specifically because of its relevance to UA students having greater significance on them, oppose to people who do not attend The University of Alabama. The time frame Sigler chose to address the email phishing issue served a great deal as well. Sigler addressed that UA students should be cautious of email phishing in early January because the topic of discussion was still a relevant issue since it took place in the fall; this action demonstrates Sigler's persistence to grasp his audience ... • 9. The University Of Alabama And University At Birmingham Deciding on a four year university to transfer to can be a very stressful decision. Talking to recruiters from many different schools has revealed one thing; they all believe their school is the best. Recruiters are not going to disclose the problem areas of their programs, nor highlight areas where other schools are stronger. Therefore, leaving students to compare and contrast, everything the schools offer, and attempt to make an informed decision. When comparing the different electrical engineering programs, it seemed that every school claimed to be the most innovative, and had the ability to offer the most opportunities to their students. When looking specifically at the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham it became evident that their programs were very similar. Both schools require the same computer and engineering seminar classes and both require that their students achieve a "C" or higher in their math and science courses. Where they truly stood out from one another is in their transfer requirements, the organizations available on campus, and the cost of attendance. As a transfer student, one of the most important aspects of choosing any college is making sure that all of the requirements can be met. The University of Alabama requires that to transfer in, the student must have maintained a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, which is a "C" average. They also require that to be classified as a transfer student versus a freshman student, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to multiple mass shootings in schools and public areas, restrictions regarding guns have been implemented across the United States. Andrew Parks, a student at The University of Alabama, wrote an article against gun restrictions. His article, "The University should allow concealed carry," supports the idea of college campuses like The University of Alabama, allowing students to conceal carry firearms. In an article written by Jennie Kushner, the opinions of students on the University of Alabama's Police Department's gun policy are presented. The safety of student body relies on the students' feeling safe. That safety comes from less gun control laws and policies on campus. Each of the articles stated provides information against gun control in different ways. In the first article, "The University should allow concealed carry," by Andrew Parks, statistics are used to support his argument on allowing concealed carry at The University of Alabama. Parks includes the rarity of a shooting in Texas, his home state. He claims, " The last time such a shooting took place in the general public was on Oct. 16, 1991" (Parks). The reason for the rarity of a shooting in Texas is due to the gun laws not being as strict as most states. Parks believes what many other Americans believe, that allowing citizens to carry firearms is a deterrent to crime and shootings. • 15. A Leader And An Ethical Leader Essay Paul "Bear" Bryant Paul "Bear" Bryant once ended a quote with "the price of victory is high, but so are the rewards." (King & King, 2006, p. 53). That still rings true today as leaders look back on their journeys, and the substantial price that it took in reaching their vision. I claim Paul "Bear" Bryant was indeed a visionary leader and an ethical leader as he continuously rallied countless men around a common goal of excellence and effectively guided them to achieve that very goal not only on the football field but in life. He was able to do so by having a strong understanding of diversity and the impact it had in the building of his coaches and players, as well as what it took to advance those individuals toward the vision by way of transformational leadership and effective use of Inspirational Motivation. Bryant often led by example, and some of these examples were displayed in the way he chose to stay true to principles and avoid ethical traps in his disciplining of star quarterback, Joe Namath. He further displayed his ethical style in leading his team through racial integration in the early 1970's by having the open–mindedness and intellectual courage it took to make that unpopular decision. In the next few pages, I will display how Bryant was a visionary and ethical leader, and then reflect on the visionary and ethical leadership experiences within my own career: how I used diversity and inspirational motivation in reaching our F–35 goal at Hill AFB, and my ... It is now seen as commonplace for people to spend excessive amounts of time staring at the TV with glassy eyes and a hazed mentality just for the sake of running through a show like how a college student crams before a big test. Binge–watching is seen as acceptable, but in reality it is extremely unhealthy and detrimental. Despite this, it is considered a sport for some people. Many people binge–bond with other people to make connections. This trend became big around 2011 when 3 critically–acclaimed TV shows appeared on the video steaming service Netflix. It quickly became a well–known phenomenon, and the negative effects revealed themselves just as fast. Andrew Goldman, HBO/Cinemax vice president of program planning, said, "college students are more likely to binge watch than adults because they are not set to regular schedules or busy spending time with spouses or children" (Wheeler 2). Binge watching television gives people an immediate satisfaction which explains this behavior. With that being said, the best and most efficient way to cope with the ever growing population is to allow freshmen to live off campus, and build more apartments around campus to allow thousands of more students to have places to live in the future. Providing housing on campus for nearly 8,000 freshman students is nearly impossible. The Presidential Villages house 1,840 students. Blout, Bryant, Bryce Lawn, Burke, Friedman, The Highlands, Lakeside, Parham, Paty, Ridgecrest, Riverside, Somerville, and Tutwiler house roughly 5,000 more students. These freshman options barely fit the ever growing number of new students coming to Alabama. The University of Alabama board of trustees recently approved a $124 million dollar project to tear down and rebuild Julia Tutwiler Dorms. The dorm currently houses 1,000 freshman girls. The Tutwiler Dorms are due to be torn down at the end of the 2017 Spring Semester. The new building is scheduled to be finished in 2020. The new building will include a parking deck and be able to house almost 2,000 women. The board also approved of new dorms to be built ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Statement of Purpose to Become a Nursing Student at... Since my first day in nursing school, I have always looked forward to the day I become a family nurse practitioner (FNP). Among the driving forces and strengths being that apart from being the first nurse in the family, I graduated with a degree in nursing making me a source of inspiration within the family. Additionally, I will be the first to graduate with a master's degree in the family given this opportunity. Besides, I wish to be a source of motivation and inspiration to many nurses who wish to advance their nursing careers. It is through a demonstration of what is possible and mentoring them through that I can make a positive change among fellow nurses. Since I graduated about three years ago, I have worked with many patients and clients that require much of the required advanced nursing skills that I seek. Equipped with such skills, I will be at a better position to adequately, competently and confidently–assist the adult patients and clients. In fact, nursing is a passion allowing me to serve the community and at the same time be a light in someone's disease process darkness. I wish to live to learn broadly, to serve others generously and courageously lead other fellow nurses. Since I graduated three years ago, I have had two certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), which have enabled to work effectively at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA as a RN, in GI and Pulmonologist labs. Among the tasks I took part ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Student Politics: The Machine "It's not a place for the fainthearted. Student politics at Alabama are as rigorous as the student athletics" (Brown). In 1914 Theta Nu Epsilon fraternity at the University of Alabama formed a secret organization known as "The Machine". This organization was formed in order to ensure that the Greeks would have total control over the Student Government Association(SGA). Each year when elections roll around The Machine places their nominations for each government position. In years past at the University of Alabama this organization has done whatever it took to ensure their candidates were elected, even if that meant physical or emotion harm to the other candidates. The Machine must come to an end. In order to end an organization that is so ingrained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... University officials must be willing to recognize the faults of The Machine, and be willing to punish those faults. An example would be placing all fraternities and sororities that are involved in the organization on probation until they terminate their involvement. Without sororities and fraternities, the organization does not exist. The biggest change will come when non–Greek students unify and fight this organization together. An organization so ingrained in tradition will not end overnight, but the University of Alabama has to start somewhere. The secret organization known as "The Machine" must come to an end, and a new chapter in politics must begin. Works Cited Archibald, John. "'The Machine' at Alabama Is Real. • 35. Statement of Purpose for an Advance Degree in Nursing at... To accomplish great things, you must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe". I have given great consideration and planning into continuing my education and pursing an advanced degree in nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Over the last nine months, I have researched many advanced practice nursing programs and UAB offers the MSN online program of my interest. The online program will enable the opportunity to continue working and allow for the application of newly learned principles and skills to my every day nursing practice. I believe UAB will offer the opportunities required to excel as a mastered–prepared nurse. The Family Nurse Practitioner specialty is my primary area of interest. Becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner will give me the advanced training needed to provide primary care, preventive health services, and education to all ages. My second choice is the Adult–Gero Nurse specialy program. As an adult gero nurse practitioner I will deliver the same services and care as a family nurse practitioner with the exception to the pediatric population. I have been a registered nurse for two years. Prior to becoming a registered nurse, I was a licensed practical nurse for two years. During the time working as a licensed practical nurse at a long–term care facility, I realized I wanted to expand my role as a professional nurse. After becoming a registered nurse, I went to work as a case manager for a home health & hospice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The University Of Alabama Faculty Jazz The University of Alabama Faculty Jazz Band along with guest player, Bill Peterson the jazz pianist, made up a chamber ensemble and performed beautiful and upbeat jazz music. The faculty members include Tom Wolfe, the guitarist, Chris Kozak, the bass player, and Mark Lanter, the drummer. The entire concert was played in a major key and had nothing but positive energy. The pieces and players were extremely creative and they managed to tell a story and create beautiful imageries through the changing sounds, rhythms, melodies, keys and texture. The first part of the jazz concert had three sections. The first section began subito (abruptly) with everyone playing in sync and the guitarist as the main player. He played with a vivacious tempo, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we moved further along, the bass player, Chris Kozak took over. He slowly emerges from the silence as he carefully tapped the cymbals. The dynamic remained piano as the tempo gradually gets faster (accelerando). This heightened the tension before they all began to play together at 12:26 and returned to the initial mezzo forte dynamic of the piece. Towards the end, a characteristic of African music was highlighted where they performed a series of call and response. It was thrilling to hear this. My favorite part of the concert was the second part. The group played a song called "Body and Soul." The guitarist played slowly before the others joined. They created a relaxed atmosphere with an old–school effect. All the notes were legato except the melodies of the drum which was staccato. The combination added character to the piece and made it entertaining. At 19:00, the pianist played briskly but beautifully, then the guitarist did the same. The notes became high pitched and the tempo and dynamics increased. After the guitar stopped, everything went into decrescendo and the melodies from the bass and drums became choppy (staccato). Overall the piece surrounded the theme of dependence and how it affects one's happiness or strength. The piano and the guitar brought the happy aspect to the piece and without it, everything weakened and became uncoordinated. Initially it celebrated peace, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University Alabama A&M is better known as Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. This is a historically black university. Alabama A&M is located just a few miles from where the originally was built in Normal AL. Its first president, Dr. William Hooper Council, an ex–slave, established this university. In 1875 Alabama officials used the Morrill Act of 1862 that allowed state government to establish schools for black teachers and students. Alabama A&M University was one of seventeen new land–grant black institutions established under the Morrill Act. When the doors of the school swung open in 1875 the name was Huntsville Normal School and was located in downtown Huntsville, Alabama. The school consisted of only 61 students and 2 teachers. In 1878 the school developed an industrial education program, and due to the success of the program the school petitioned to change its name to State Normal and Industrial School in Huntsville. The Alabama Legislature approved their request and also rose the funding from 1,000 dollars to 4,000 dollars per year. Under the second Morrill Act in 1890, the university received government funded land for the first time. Having this land allowed students to study agriculture and mechanical studies. In 1896 the name was renamed the State Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes.
