Transitions Vantage Lenses Explained
The new Transitions® Vantage™ lenses incorporate the existing
photochromic lenses that transitions are known for plus the added benefits of variable polarisation —
polarisation that increases as the lenses become darker in outdoor light. That means, as
Transitions® Vantage™ lenses get darker, vision gets crisper, sharper and more vivid while glare is
reduced in even the brightest outdoor conditions. In addition, colour contrast and perception becomes
richer, vibrant and more vivid.
Transitions® Vantage™ lenses are breakthrough lenses with variable polarisation that changes in
intensity as lighting conditions change. They are the first and only lenses that are virtually clear indoors
with no polarisation that darken and polarise outdoors. With a range from Category 0 to 2 it has a light
transmission from 77% to 20% ensuring they are ideal for both indoors to outdoors in sunny conditions.

2. How it works
Until recently, polarisation only existed as static film embedded in a
lens. It was tinted and fixed, and thus unable to adapt to changing light and become clear. Transitions
Optical has created lenses in which molecules not only darken under the influence of UV light but also
align at a proper angle in the lens so that they become polarised. In other words, new Transitions
Vantage lenses help control glare and light scatter by both darkening and increasing their polarisation in
UV light.
Conventional photochromic molecules darken in random patterns, and that works perfectly to create the
adaptation from light to dark. In order to create the polarisation effect, Transitions Vantage lenses have
photochromic molecules that darken and align. This allows them to create a pattern of horizontal lines
with the power to cut through intense glare.
