Baby Boomers
As the Millennial generation heads into its prime family– and career–building years, its members
are expected to emerge as pragmatic spenders–seeking experiences over material status symbols
while continuing to rely heavily on technology to research, plan, collaborate, and make life easier at
home and at work.
And HR will need to continue to adjust from the late 20th century workplace model, experts say.
Gone are the days of working in one location from nine to five. This generation, which is the most
connected generation in history–to technology, to their peers, to information–will need to be
managed differently.
That's because Millennials, or Generation Y–adults now roughly ages 18 to 34–are projected to
exceed the number of Baby Boomers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fromm agreed, saying that Millennial parents will shift from crowdsourcing craft beers to
crowdsourcing baby food.
Stacy DeBroff, founder and CEO of social media consultancy Influence Central, told SHRM Online
that her firm's 2014 research into Millennials' consumer habits "demonstrated that this generation
puts its own stamp on consumer purchases. They see [purchasing] as intuitive, interactive and
experiential, and 58 percent consider themselves very engaged in consumerism."
They also typically consult their parents on major life decisions, from big purchases to job choices.
Half of Millennials live less than 30 miles from their childhood homes, "which paints an entirely
different picture than [Generation X], who would easily move cross–country for relationships or job
opportunities," said DeBroff.
All that research, collaboration, experience–seeking and quest for convenience translates into heavy
technology demand. While they're more pragmatic than members of Generation X and the Baby
Boomers, members of Generation Y are early adopters of mobile, digital technology and will
purchase apps and systems that simplify their lives at home and at work, Fromm

Self-Awaking And Identity In The Generation Of The Baby...
The "self" is an identity that is formed through an individual's experiences and exploration
throughout the course of their life; it is ever changing. In an individual's discovery of their "self",
self–esteem, one's confidence in their abilities as an individual or "self" can impact their level of
happiness. As a result, an individual's self–esteem in terms of performance, behavior, and body
image can weaken or strengthen their emotional stability.
There is a lot of pressure to be that "self", not only in present day, but also in the past, before the
Baby Boomer era. Many people try to find themselves without knowing what a "self" is. A "self" as
explained by Twenge, in the generation of the Baby Boom, is one's journey of learning and getting
to know who you truly are and is a new concept that arose when "social structures began to loosen
and people started to make more choices for themselves....an autonomous, free person" (Twenge
488–4899). Twenge's word choice such as, "loosen" and "free" creates a sense of awaking and
freedom in the term "self". A person is breaking out of an idealized image and becoming the "self".
However, Twenge's argument that it has become "a new concept" fairly recently, is debatable. Self is
an identity and it is not something that just popped up recently. People still struggle to find and
express themselves, the only thing that has changed, are the societal norms and people's decision to
speak up about their true "self". While trying to prove her

Communication Gap Between Generation Y And The Baby Boomer...
This paper reviews an article written by Elza Venter from the Department of Psychology of
Education at the University of South Africa. The article is titled "Bridging the communication gap
between Generation Y and the Baby Boomer generation.
The article examines the generational communication gap between generation Y and the Baby
Boomer generation with the intention to suggest ways to bridge the gap. Venter (2016) argues that
meaningful communication between the two generations is important because they have connected
channels of communication and the two can give meaning to each other's lives. For instance, "Baby
Boomer are the parents, employers, lecturers and teachers of Generation Y" (Venter, 2016: 2).
However, the two generations do not always maintain good channels of communication. According
to Venter (2016) the baby boomer generation and Generation Y often times find themselves engaged
in conflict as a result generational differences.
In order to understand the communication gap between the two generations, Venter (2016) studied
interpersonal communication style of the each generation. The author found that Generation Y and
the Baby Boomer generation value different communication styles and that creates a communication
gap between the two generations.
According to Venter (2016) the main differences in the two generations communications styles can
be summarised as follows:
Members of Generation Y are called digital natives because this generation grew up using

Baby Boomers Essay
Baby Boomers During the Great Depression and World War II many Americans delayed marrying
and having children because of the poor economy. The number of marriages and births soared after
the war. Many older couples who had delayed having children began having them when the war
ended. This increase in births among both younger and older American couples created the Baby
Boom Generation. This large group of people born in the U.S. from 1946 to 1964 amounted to 76
million children. Those born during this time make up approximately 36% of today's population
(Deutsch). What impact has this had on the economy? Read on to see how the baby boom
generation has affected the economy and what will happen as they retire.
This generation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has led them to invest large amounts into 401k plans and mutual funds.
Now that we've looked at the spending issues, let's see how the baby boomers have affected the
workforce. When baby boomers began entering the workforce, they increased the size of the labor
market. The job market has been greatly expanded with the coming of this generation, especially
with the addition of women to the workforce. At times, the baby boomers faced relatively high
levels of unemployment because they had to compete with one another for jobs. But eventually the
jobs materialized. The average age of the workforce is steadily climbing. The first of the baby
boomers will start to retire in large numbers after the year 2020.
The retirement tack boomers end up taking in coming decades will have a profound, but unknown
impact on the economy. As Peterson says, "The forecasts range from impending doom to
marketplace godsend." Some predict that as baby boomers retire unemployment will fall and that
this process should begin by the year 2002 and that labor shortages should emerge about 2005. This
will continue to get worse as the number of people who retire exceed the number who enter the
workforce (Generation).
Some economic observers predict financial disasters, both national and personal, when the baby
boomers retire. They say that as nations of workers and investors become nations of retired
consumers, withdrawals will far outweigh deposits in investment and savings vehicles.

What Makes A Baby Boomer?
Today, there are many Baby Boomers that live in the world. Most of these people have impacted a
lot of people currently. This is because of many things they have introduced to us and or gave us.
There are many people that can be shown to be very important to our culture and or history, but first
of all, what is a baby boomer?
During the end of World War Two, there was a so called "baby boom", and this had influenced many
different countries. But, it mostly it affected western countries during the time. So, a Baby Boomer
was someone born during this baby boom. This ranged from the time of 1946 to 1964, which 18
years is quite a long time.
Since we know what baby boomers are, they are a very huge impact on todays society. To give
example, they make impacts economically, Socially, and also Psychologically. There are many
different reasons for this, and they are easy to understand exactly the impact they make on our daily
lives.
One of the biggest Baby Boomers out there is Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs has impacted us in many ways,
but one of the things that he has impacted is economics and society. He was one of the biggest
people to make us more social and nonsocial. It depends usually on the consumer, but he has made
us social with the invention of his Iphones, which has made us more connected with the outside
world. But, it had made us less social with people around us.
He has impacted economy, for the fact that Steve Jobs had started one of the biggest

Baby Boomers
Introduction:
Baby Boomers have greatly impacted and shaped society to what it is today. Specifically health
care, social issues, and the market place. All these things will immensely effect upcoming
generations' lives.
Who are Baby Boomers?
Baby boomers are adults born in 1946–1964, and the largest demographic in America with around
76 million. They are the children born to parents who served in WWII. After WWII the increase in
wages spurred the belief that they could afford many children. When in reality they could at the
time, but not for long. Now, many boomers will be lower class because of mortgage debt and health
care costs. Boomers are reaching their retirement age soon meaning they will depend heavily on the

In 2009 one in three adults were unmarried. This impact their view on marriage a lot. They grew up
in a time when conservatives were becoming more tolerant. Boomers and their family are becoming
less likely to be a part of religious institutions. Boomers are responsible for being the most lenient
for gay and POC equality and women's rights. Without Boomers many laws that protest POC, gays,
and women would not exist. Boomers daily life include exercising at the gym and adult adventure
programs. They are also the main market for plays and concerts. Their influence has shaped
mainstream music to where it is today. The Baby Boomers reached their retirement age in 2011.
Boomers plan to move to southern and western cities. Many Boomers wish to own a second home
for their second home for their personal retirement after paying off their first house. Climate, cost,
and health care are the most important aspects for moving Boomers. Boomers are the highest
earners in The United States. This contributes to 77% of wealth in America.

The Gap Between Generation Y And The Baby Boomer Generation
This paper reviews an article written by Elza Venter from the Department of Psychology of
Education at the University of South Africa. The article is titled "Bridging the communication gap
between Generation Y and the Baby Boomer generation.
The purpose of this research was to answer one key research question: "How can the generational
communication gap between the Baby Boomer generation and Generation Y be closed in order to
allow them to have meaningful interpersonal communication?"
According to Venter (2016), meaningful communication between the Baby boomer generation and
Generation Y is important because these generations have connected channels of communication
and can bring meaning to each other's lives. "Meaningful communication ... Show more content on

On the contrary, Baby Boomers value face–to–face communication. Baby Boomers are "digital
immigrants" who grew up without technology. They had to migrate to using technology. According
to Prensky cited in Venter (2016), "members of the Baby Boomer generation had to learn the digital
language in order to communicate with the digital natives. Some members still experience difficulty
in maintaining their digital immigrant accent (p.3). Baby Boomers prefer face–to–face
communication because of the presence of body language and non–verbal cues which are important
to them (Walmsley cited in Venter, 2016, p.4).Therefore, members of the Baby Boomer generation
will only resort to computer–mediated communication if the context does not allow for face–to–face
communication. For example, "the Baby Boomer generation will send emails or phone another
person if they cannot walk or drive to that person, they rarely resort to only instant messaging to fill
their interpersonal communication" (Venter, 2016, p. 2). Members of the Baby Boomer generation
do not appreciate technological skills of Generation Y because they prefer learning in a step–by–
step process instead of multitasking. (Prensky cited in Venter, 2016, p.4).
The research was conducted as a literature review using the cues–filtered–out approach and the
social presence theory (Venter, 2016, p.2). "The

The Baby Boomers Generation and Their Characteristics
Work centered, independent, goal–oriented, and competitive, these are just a few characteristics of
Baby Boomers (cite). While it is often times easy to lump a group of people into one category and
assume similarities, it is important to recognize that differences within each generation do exist. Not
only are the differences important from a general standpoint, but they also play a role in
consumption behavior. By analyzing two individuals from the Baby Boomer generation, those born
between 1946 and 1964, a clearer understanding of these differences and similarities can be
obtained (cite).
The overall goal of the interview is to address similarities and differences between two people of the
same generation. With that being said, the questions asked were mainly focused on how each person
viewed themselves in context to their generation. Each question will be presented and discussed,
comparing and contrasting the answers given. This organization will foster a clearer outlook on how
similar or different the respondent's answers are.
Before discussing the questions and answers, a demographic comparison of both interviewees is
necessary. This will help display some variables and controls when comparing the differences and
similarities among the two people. Some similarities among the individuals include: gender, race,
education, location of residence, socioeconomic status, religion, and language. Both interviewees
are white females born and raised in southwestern North

Baby Boomers have been one of the most powerful forces in shaping the economic environment and
are the wealthiest generation in the United States (Kotler and Armstrong, 2015). "In their early
years, "Leading Edge" Boomers enjoyed economic prosperity, and their resulting financial power in
their prime years drove rising trends in everything. However, the recessionary years of the early
1970's also added cautionary realities to their youthful consumption and employment dreams"
("America's Oldest Boomers", n.d.). Baby boomers control approximately 70% of the disposable
income in the United States, therefore, they are known as being one of the most influential financial

Baby Boomers are Jealous
Generation X'ers have been described as "fanatically independent individuals pathologically
ambivalent about the future, and brimming with unsatisfied longings for permanence, for love, and
for material possessions."
(Lauren, p.64) This less–than–flattering description of our generation has since been expanded by
the media to the point that myself and my peers are described as a bunch of apathetic slackers
unconcerned with family values, godless cynics resentful of the preceding generations.
Since Douglas Coupland's Book Generation X came out in 1991, many things have been said about

Examples proving that Generation X is not a bunch of 'slackers' are prevalent all through our society

Baby Boomers Argumentative Analysis
While they will increasingly care more about how they live than how they look, women now ages
37 through 57 will likely continue to consume apparel with gusto, fortified by their having the most
disposable income of any U.S. generation ever and assets that already account for roughly half of
Americans' wealth, marketing sources projected. Too, generation expert Ken Dychtwald has
calculated Boomers currently ages 40 through 59 will inherit more than $ 10 trillion, further
boosting the spending clout of the cohort with the most economic power in the U.S. Roughly 25
percent of Boomers, or 20 million of the generation's 80 million members, are expected to possess
what life–stage expert Geoff Meredith terms an "age accepting" mentality by 2008. This is
anticipated to spur the rise of more realistic marketing images aimed at the generation, which
continues to be overlooked in fashion ad campaigns that cater mostly to young shoppers. Indeed, he
observed, "Baby Boomers look at today's ads and say 'That's not me."' ... Show more content on

Evidence of such changing attitudes is already surfacing, he said, in the continued appeal of actors
such as Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone, cast as action heroes much as they had been 20 years

"Diane Keaton is a [Boomer] cohort icon and will influence fashion forever," Meredith added.
Marketing executives such as Jill Glover, president of Glover Group, whose clients include Eileen

ad imagery that will be more reflective of how Boomers will reshape the way people experience

Gen Y And Baby Boomer Generational And Group Dynamics At...
When looking at what makes a company successful, one main contributor is a solid organizational
culture. Organizational culture is impacted by generational groups that differ in their communication
styles, beliefs, and values as well as a preference between working alone or as a member of a team.
This paper will compare and contrast the Gen Y and Baby Boomer generational groups in terms of
organizational culture and interpersonal and group dynamics at Pick 'n Save.
According to Reynolds, Campbell, & Greist (2008) Baby Boomers are considered those that were
born between the years of 1946 and 1964. They also consider Generation Y to be those that were
born between the years of 1982 and 2000. Generation Y is the offspring of Baby Boomers. These
two generations are very important to companies since in the next decade, Baby Boomers will be
retiring and Generation Yers will be entirely integrated into the global workplace (Reynolds,
Campbell, & Greist 2008).
Nicholson (2008) states that as about 80 million Baby Boomers retire, companies could face a major
"brain drain" as so many senior and skilled workers walk out the door. Companies have to start
thinking now about how they intend to fill the gabs left by retiring Baby Boomers. This leaves
companies having to come up with plans on how they want to transition their workforce, not only to
replace those that will be retiring, but to also make sure that their replacements are fully qualified
and can take their job over

Quantitative data is based upon statistics, while qualitative reports contain anecdotal, or casual,

(Ciaran, n.d.). For the purpose of this study topic, it is my speculation that the HRM team should
capture very explicit details, besides merely numbers and statistics, concerning the members of an
organization. I suppose the best method of doing so, would be to exploit data discovered in a
qualitative report. As alluded to in the above–mentioned reference, this technique will gather
intricate details of an employee's trait, characteristics, habits, and any relevant information
pertaining to the value an employee supplies their perspective entities. Thereupon, in this case HRM
will be capable of precisely gathering pinpoint data. That management could utilize in determining
the added value, in this case those of the baby boomers, as has been described throughout this entire

specifications of this paper will ensue in the following portion of this case

When boomer demand slams into the market place, prices soar (until the fad passes). Nothing stops
the baby–boomer. There is somewhat of a bright side to all the spending and boomer traffic. Being
just a few steps ahead of the boomer can make an individual very well off if you know which way
they are headed. Boomers have always acted this way. Still the largest generation in the United
States has been shifting markets ever since the diaper and baby food industries in the late 1940's

Angeles was spending $1 million a week on new schools in the mid–1960's (Geoffery 59–64). After
that happened, the boomer moved on abandoning a huge amount of those facilities. When younger
boomers wanted cars, the Mustang and Camaro were considered a phenomenon and as the boomer
herd passed so did the sales. Suburban homes in beautiful areas were next since boomers were doing

Baby Boomers Shopping: Shopping for the Baby Boomers would have been somewhat limited. The
traditional Macy's experience would be about as dynamic as a Baby Boomer could get in terms of
choices. If the local Sears didn't have what they needed, they'd have to go to a specialty store and
take the number from the catalog, and if they were lucky, get the correct item ordered in about 4 – 6
weeks! Telephones: While the Baby Boomers are/were way more advanced than a carrier pigeon,
they still had the rotary phone which is still underwhelming. If you placed a call to someone and the
line was busy that was it, call back later. No call waiting, no call forwarding, and no voice mail.

America was a big manufacturer then, so there were many factory jobs to be had in that generation.
Many women were stay–at–home mothers who raised the children while the fathers went of to

Shopping for the Generation X started with the trip to the mall. If your local department store didn't

Market: The job market for the Generation X folks started to slow, with a little bit of foreign trading

The Influence Of The Baby Boomer Generation
The baby boomer generation is getting older, according to most statistics the people born between
1946–1965 are considered baby boomers. These feisty adults are now in their 50's to 70's and
learned about sex from the old fashion way. Many grew up on the farm learning from watching
animals, or some may have learned from war time experiences. Most have been in long
relationships with the same sex partner for many year, these partners may now be becoming either
unable to have sex or dying. When a person comes back on the market from being in a long
relationship, they may have forgot a lot about the dangers of sexually encounters. Studies show that
"since 2007, incidence of syphilis among seniors is up by 52 percent, with chlamydia up 32
percent." (Weiss, Robert). Wiess also points out that the sexual content that was taught during the
baby boomers generation taught more about hygiene and not about disease prevention. Most men
learned about condoms in the military, and where thought that it was for use in foreign ports and for
the red–light district only. An international design consultancy called IDEO, has developed a public
service campaign to help get the word out to people in baby boomer age group. Most are pretty
tongue in cheek type of ads, that tend to get the message across without being vulgar or offensive. It
is centered around getting the usage of condoms up in this age group to prevent sexually transmitted
disease or STD's. This high–risk age group is not as

Data is cited showing that, in an aging population, individuals rely on state support in their

The Baby Boomers rarely complain about their work load or other members of staff.
Baby boomers tend to be more diligent on the job and prefer a more stable working environment
(Loomis, 2000). The Baby boomers tend to work hard and are generally loyal to their employer.
Baby boomers are willing and expecting to work with others. In term of leadership style, Baby
boomers accept the chain of command. In addition, they expect their managers to give direction and
to lead them towards organizational goals. They prefer teamwork directed by leaders in positional
authority, and a task–oriented leadership style. Baby boomers are however, not highly
technologically savvy, nor do they generally like change ( Raths, 1999).
1.2 Generation X
Born between 1965 and 1980, Generation X has strong ties to the Baby Boomers, but grew up in
more prosperous times. As children, this generation was busy playing outside with their friends –
home was a place for dinner and sleep. They share a sense of respect and duty similar to their older
counterparts, and also prefer to keep home and work separate. However, they are more comfortable
using technology even though their lack of formative education in IT means that most are self–
taught or have developed their skills in the workplace. They had a colour TV at home, and probably
more than one. They can be known as, "techno–immigrants‟. When researching projects and ideas,

Booming Effect : The Baby Boomer Generation Essay
Booming Effect: The Baby Boomer Generation The ending of World War II led to one of the most
influential generations today. Young males upon returning to the United States, Canada, and
Australia following tours of duty overseas during World War II began families. This brought about a
significant number of new children into the world. "In 1946, the first year of the Baby Boom, new
births in the U.S. skyrocketed to 3.47 million births" (Rosenburg). This led to many events such as
an increase in housing and the development of the suburb, consumerism multiplying, health care
system, issues and a more recent topic: retirement. Men and women had to postpone any ideas for
having a family because of the prolonged era of the Great Depression and World War II. In 1945,
when World War II ended, the men came home, and they could finally resume their wishes to start a
family. Almost exactly nine months after World War II ended, Historian Landon Jones said, "A cry
of the baby was heard across the land" ("Baby"). By the end of the Baby Boom, children made up
almost 40 percent of the nation's population ("Baby"). This many children will have an impact on
society no matter what. After the literal baby boom, families started moving start the suburb boom
as well. The Baby Boom was a great way for developers to start up a business and buy land to make
modest homes. This led to developers such as William Levitt becoming the most

Baby Boomer 's Goals And Goals
After World War II, between the years of 1946 and 1964, there was a surge of birth. After that period
and the influx of children being brought into the world, the world was severely affected by these
dubbed "baby boomers". Baby Boomers, in a sense, were consider part of the growing middle class
we know today. What were these baby boomer's goals and aspirations? What were their values?
What actions did they take to make sure they had a good life for themselves and their families?
Were their decisions based in politics? Some would say that these baby boomer's goals and actions
contributed to the success of America's middle class. Others would argue that their actions caused
our middle class to decline. Maybe it is in the middle of the spectrum? The goals and actions of our
"Baby Boomer" generation contributed to the decline of America's current middle class. Today's
American Middle Class is made up of some baby boomers, generations X and Y and millennials.
The middle class was severely impacted by the decisions of Baby Boomers. Today, the American
Middle Class is said to be declining. Some that are part of the middle class feel that because of
economic and financial turmoil, the class as a whole is failing; more and more people today and
dropping out of the middle class and identifying as lower class or upper class. Others believe that

Baby Boomers And Baby Boomers
Baby boomers and millennials, are they oil & water or two peas in a pod? There have been large
shifts in society and culture between when the baby boomers were born (1946–1964) and when the
millennials were born (1981–1996). There are many factors that have influenced and molded each
of these two generations such as technology, trends, debt and economy. Who exactly are millennials
and baby boomers? What I know emphatically is that they both have strong opinions of one another.

"Only 24% of Baby Boomers are confident they will have enough savings to last throughout
retirement, down from 36% in 2012." (Frankel) This is the reason more Baby Boomers are working
longer before retiring. At the same time the Millennials were growing up through the recession,
acquired student loan debt and were entering a very competitive job market. Robin Lewis captured
this reality through this quote. "This is a generation that is bigger than the boomers in population,
but their wallets are smaller, and they are more into the style of life than the stuff of life." This backs
up a study conducted by Bank of America Merrill Lynch that shows "A whopping 82% of
millennials are investing in a retirement savings account and 75% of the baby boom generation does
so." (Abrams) The main reason for this pattern is the Millennials are investing in retirement
accounts at work many of which have matching programs and Baby Boomers are skitish of the
market and losing more of thier retirement. If there is one place these generations are struggling is
working together. Baby Boomers are extremely hardworking, competitive and workaholics, working
50+ hours a week. They made sacrifices to achieve professional accomplishments and further their
careers. At work Millenials have a sense of empowerment, are ambitious and feel somewhat
entitled, after all that is how they grew up. They are

The Baby Boomers Generation
There are many challenges facing managers and leaders in current workforce. The variety of
cultures, races and generations in today's environment is making work harder. "Managing will also
get even more difficult because of globalization, multi–generational workforce, dependency on
technology, unethical behaviors and practices." (Kaifi,2013,pg.217). In this paper I will talk about
the three generations that we have had over the past sixty years – the Baby Boomer Generation,
Generation X and the current Generation Y, known as Millennials. This rich mix of generations in
the workforce can be attributed primarily to labor shortages experienced in many industries and the
rising average age of retirement.
First, let us talk about Baby Boomers. It is not unusual for Baby Boomers (born between 1946 and
1964) like to be in control. Moreover, it is understandable why because they have years of
experience. Baby Boomers attempt to develop a spirit of friendship with team members whose on–
the–job experience is very small. Members of the Baby Boom Generation tend to have a strong
work ethic, good communication skills, and emotional maturity. "The Baby Boomers are also one of
the most educated generations."(Colquitt, Lepine, &Wesson,2011,p.85) Boomers continue to hold
most of the power and control. Trained as thinkers, they will continue to have surprising influence
on the workplace for at least another two decades and this is why it is important to balance their

Youth Generation: The Baby Boomers
For my assignment this week I am writing about China and India trends and how they are copying
the Western–style for the past several decades. In this paper I will talk about the United States
economy and how it has overcome several hardships of the past. I will talk some about the youth
and their generation of China and India and how they are affecting the economy in their homeland.
Last but not least I will discuss the trend that the United States is setting on these countries through
their younger generation.
My assignment will cover the up and coming marketing strategies that will be used and aimed

Marketing for the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, and Female Harley Davidson riders
Today's marketer must take into consideration many generational differences when considering a
marketing strategy for a product. Most products are intended for a massive audience, requiring the
marketer to utilize an integrated marketing scheme to encompass all generations. Specialized
products, being marketed to a specific sector, also have a unique opportunity to market directly to a
target audience. Being aware of the differences in marketing to mass audiences and the targeting of
specific groups, is a valuable arrow in the quiver of a marketer. Comparing the differences in the
older generations gives the marketer an insight into how to mass market, while targeting the groups
as a whole. There is also an interesting opportunity for the marketer to target a very specific group
for specialized products. While the job of the marketer remains the same, the methodology must be
different to reach the intended audiences.
The Silent Generation
The silent generation consists of those born between 1928 and 1945. This group grew up during the
Great Depression and World War II. These two major facts helped to shape the attitudes and habits
of the generation. This sector of the population encompasses approximately fifty–five million
consumers, the majority being retirees with great amounts of savings. Due to the fact they grew up

financial collapse is a very complex issue rooted in multiple causes, making it hard to put into a

tried to get rich by taking on assumptions about the housing market and taking on huge risks that
they didn't realize the full extent of. The beginning of the crisis is rooted in banks giving out
subprime loans to people who would have not otherwise been given these loans. The banks assumed
that these loans could be bundled and the numbers proved that they were safe investments, because
enough people would pay their loans back. Another assumption that people held was that, because
the housing market had a history of continual rise, that history would repeat itself and the value of
housing would always rise. The Efficient–Market hypothesis seemed to claim that economic

Generational Differences Between Baby Boomers and Millennials and The Impacts on HR
Kimberly Senkler
September 14, 2010
Human Resource Management BA 421 KP Normally we tend to think of diversity in relation to age,
race, gender and religion. These days there is more focus being given to diversity in the form of
generational differences.
While the other factors in diversity (age, race, gender and religion) tend to lead to legal issues,
generational diversity is generally more of a performance issue. Generations can be loosely defined
as bodies of individuals born and living at about the same time. "Each generation is molded by
distinctive experiences during their critical developmental periods" (Twenge, 2008). The ... Show

Millennials tend to be technologically advanced and eager to learn. They also value social
responsibility and team–work. They are often seen as impatient and quick to express opinions
without having all of the data. Millennials are quick to jump–ship if they do not feel if they are
progressing fast enough, often at speeds that might be seen as unreasonable. Dayan (2005) says that
about 5.6 million Millennials are about to enter the employment market. Millennials are said to be
the most challenging generation for employers. Attracting Boomers and Millennials "The number of
employees over the age of 55 has increased by 30 percent; however, the number of 25– to 54–year–
olds has only increased by 1 percent" (Claire, 2009). In 2008 the eldest of the 77 million baby–
boomers turned 62. Estimates are that by the end of the decade about 40 percent of the work force
will be eligible to retire. As people begin to reach the age of retirement there may be not be enough
new employees to fill the gap (Clare, 2009). Companies need to find ways to attract Boomers and

How Do Baby Boomers Affect Society
Baby boomers are making a huge impact on our society and here is an article of why. The name
baby boomers was given to the babies that are being born now, now being after the World War II.
Right now there has been approximately 3.7 million babies born this year. The question still
remains. Why are so many people having babies? Many believe that by having children their life
will return to normalcy. For others it is a way to outnumber the amount of communists, so
communism would not spread. Many people during World War II and the Great Depression decided
to hold off on marriage and having children because there was a lot of insecurity around the world.
Now that the war and depression are over they feel comfortable having children. Most baby
boomers are growing up in the suburbs, so they grow up knowing many other children around the
same age. The G.I. Bill that was passed a few years ago reduced the cost of living for soldiers who
returned home. The children in these homes knew each other because when you live in the suburbs

This group of people is viewed as vulnerable, old, lonely, and poor. Ingrained in the culture these
perceptions are false and are causing marketers to miss out on an abundant target group. "Why are
perceptions so far off? Why have we failed to set the record straight? Why does our advertising
continue to show old people as ancient, twisted, limping people in wheelchairs with canes, wrinkled
and covered with gray hair, or no hair at all? Is this why marketers have ignored the emerging
mature markets? There is an obvious marketing opportunity here for us" (Leventhal, 1997). An
effective marketing communication message to baby boomers explains how the product meets their

mature consumer needs facts and data to convince them of a purchase. Flashy gimmicks and peer

Depending on the illness and chronic conditions that the baby boomer generation will have, health
care costs will rise to receive these services. The top 5 chronic conditions are hypertension, high

costs in the United States and it is a very effective strategy that exists today in most organizations. A
dedicated primary care physician will take the time to spend with their patients to review their
concerns and go over their basic preliminary findings such as blood pressure, weigh and personal
issues as an attempt to build a relationship. Patients' satisfaction with and trust in their doctors will
remain high only if the public believes the trusts are acting on their behalf, rather than making
decisions in their own financial interests. In the United States, some of the harshest criticism of
gatekeeping has resulted from the public's perception that medical decision making was unduly
influenced by financial considerations (Forrest, 2003). Over 37 million baby boomers will
experience having to manage more than one chronic condition by 2030 resulting in an annual cost of
$13,000 annually ("American Hospital Association", 2007). The forecasted costs for health care

Baby Boomers' Effect in Health Care
As the baby boomer generation begins to reach retirement age, there has been much speculation as
to what affect they will have on the health care industry. The baby boomer generation is the group of
people born between 1946 and 1964. At one point, there were more than 76 million of them, of
which 4 million died before 2000. With all this in mind, I will discuss what specific effects they will
have now they are getting to that "elderly" stage. One word used by many people when they
describe how the baby boomers will affect health care is apocalyptic. We all know that ... Show

The effects of smoking and drinking are a major part of that. Part of this is the decrease in the
number of primary care physicians and pension plans that are disappearing due to the economy.
That means there is a smaller number of doctors and smaller amounts of funds to take care of these.
If there will be an evolution in this, there must be new models of management of these illnesses as
well. This includes the delivery of innovative services through Medicare and private sector plans.
"Transformative changes are particularly critical for the baby boomer generation, of which nearly
two–thirds (35 million people) have at least one chronic health condition," (Blumenthal, S., 2013).
Another thing about this particular generation is that they are technology savvy. While things like
the internet were not around when they were little, the older they got, the more technology as a
whole grew. The internet came along as well as television. They have become starving for
information. Therefore, when it comes to marketing, the best place to do this is on the internet and
also on television advertisements. They do also enjoy reading the newspaper, so taking out portions
of those would be beneficial. Making sure that there is as much information as possible about a
particular service or product available is vital. If there is something that they see or want, they will
do their research on it

Baby Boomer Generation Research Paper
Generation after generation have contributed to society and life some way or another; some more
than others. The Baby boomer generation has had the most impact on the United States than any
other generation. A Baby boomer is someone born between 1946 and 1964. They are considered to
be too busy for neighborly involvement yet with strong desires to reset or change the common
values for the good of all. They are optimistic, dream chasing and not satisfied with what they know
and want more. The Baby boomer generation is the most creative generation because it gave birth to
the creative minds of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Edwin Catmull. One of the most popular innovators
is Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft.
Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle Washington. He was the son of William H.
Gates, a successful attorney. As a child Gates was a wealthy kid who enjoyed sports and the Cub
Scouts. William wanted his son to have a career in law, but Bill had other things in mind. Bill was
very interest in computer science and started studying it in the 7th grade at Seattle's Lakeside School
in 1968. At Lakeside school Bill Gates met a boy named Paul Allen, who had the same interest in
technology as Gates did. Bill Gates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His job was to develop state–of–the–art computers for the film industry. There, he was reunited with
an old friend Aly Ray Smith. Catmull's group of computer scientist created the Pixar Image
Computer, which revolutionized the animation film industry. Soon after, Catmull and Aly Ray Smith
started their own independent company with Edwin Catmull as the president and Aly Ray Smith as
Vice President (Lundy 2). With success and persistence, Edwin Catmull became a computer
scientist, the founder of Pixar Animation Studios and is currently president of Walt Disney
Animation Studios. The creative minds of these advances can only be attributed to the Baby boomer

Baby Boomers

  • 1. Baby Boomers As the Millennial generation heads into its prime family– and career–building years, its members are expected to emerge as pragmatic spenders–seeking experiences over material status symbols while continuing to rely heavily on technology to research, plan, collaborate, and make life easier at home and at work. And HR will need to continue to adjust from the late 20th century workplace model, experts say. Gone are the days of working in one location from nine to five. This generation, which is the most connected generation in history–to technology, to their peers, to information–will need to be managed differently. That's because Millennials, or Generation Y–adults now roughly ages 18 to 34–are projected to exceed the number of Baby Boomers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fromm agreed, saying that Millennial parents will shift from crowdsourcing craft beers to crowdsourcing baby food. Stacy DeBroff, founder and CEO of social media consultancy Influence Central, told SHRM Online that her firm's 2014 research into Millennials' consumer habits "demonstrated that this generation puts its own stamp on consumer purchases. They see [purchasing] as intuitive, interactive and experiential, and 58 percent consider themselves very engaged in consumerism." They also typically consult their parents on major life decisions, from big purchases to job choices. Half of Millennials live less than 30 miles from their childhood homes, "which paints an entirely different picture than [Generation X], who would easily move cross–country for relationships or job opportunities," said DeBroff. All that research, collaboration, experience–seeking and quest for convenience translates into heavy technology demand. While they're more pragmatic than members of Generation X and the Baby Boomers, members of Generation Y are early adopters of mobile, digital technology and will purchase apps and systems that simplify their lives at home and at work, Fromm ... • 2. Self-Awaking And Identity In The Generation Of The Baby... The "self" is an identity that is formed through an individual's experiences and exploration throughout the course of their life; it is ever changing. In an individual's discovery of their "self", self–esteem, one's confidence in their abilities as an individual or "self" can impact their level of happiness. As a result, an individual's self–esteem in terms of performance, behavior, and body image can weaken or strengthen their emotional stability. There is a lot of pressure to be that "self", not only in present day, but also in the past, before the Baby Boomer era. Many people try to find themselves without knowing what a "self" is. A "self" as explained by Twenge, in the generation of the Baby Boom, is one's journey of learning and getting to know who you truly are and is a new concept that arose when "social structures began to loosen and people started to make more choices for themselves....an autonomous, free person" (Twenge 488–4899). Twenge's word choice such as, "loosen" and "free" creates a sense of awaking and freedom in the term "self". A person is breaking out of an idealized image and becoming the "self". However, Twenge's argument that it has become "a new concept" fairly recently, is debatable. Self is an identity and it is not something that just popped up recently. People still struggle to find and express themselves, the only thing that has changed, are the societal norms and people's decision to speak up about their true "self". While trying to prove her ... • 3. Communication Gap Between Generation Y And The Baby Boomer... This paper reviews an article written by Elza Venter from the Department of Psychology of Education at the University of South Africa. The article is titled "Bridging the communication gap between Generation Y and the Baby Boomer generation. The article examines the generational communication gap between generation Y and the Baby Boomer generation with the intention to suggest ways to bridge the gap. Venter (2016) argues that meaningful communication between the two generations is important because they have connected channels of communication and the two can give meaning to each other's lives. For instance, "Baby Boomer are the parents, employers, lecturers and teachers of Generation Y" (Venter, 2016: 2). However, the two generations do not always maintain good channels of communication. According to Venter (2016) the baby boomer generation and Generation Y often times find themselves engaged in conflict as a result generational differences. In order to understand the communication gap between the two generations, Venter (2016) studied interpersonal communication style of the each generation. The author found that Generation Y and the Baby Boomer generation value different communication styles and that creates a communication gap between the two generations. According to Venter (2016) the main differences in the two generations communications styles can be summarised as follows: Members of Generation Y are called digital natives because this generation grew up using ... • 4. Baby Boomers Essay Baby Boomers During the Great Depression and World War II many Americans delayed marrying and having children because of the poor economy. The number of marriages and births soared after the war. Many older couples who had delayed having children began having them when the war ended. This increase in births among both younger and older American couples created the Baby Boom Generation. This large group of people born in the U.S. from 1946 to 1964 amounted to 76 million children. Those born during this time make up approximately 36% of today's population (Deutsch). What impact has this had on the economy? This has led them to invest large amounts into 401k plans and mutual funds. Now that we've looked at the spending issues, let's see how the baby boomers have affected the workforce. When baby boomers began entering the workforce, they increased the size of the labor market. The job market has been greatly expanded with the coming of this generation, especially with the addition of women to the workforce. At times, the baby boomers faced relatively high levels of unemployment because they had to compete with one another for jobs. But eventually the jobs materialized. The average age of the workforce is steadily climbing. The first of the baby boomers will start to retire in large numbers after the year 2020. The retirement tack boomers end up taking in coming decades will have a profound, but unknown impact on the economy. As Peterson says, "The forecasts range from impending doom to marketplace godsend." Some predict that as baby boomers retire unemployment will fall and that this process should begin by the year 2002 and that labor shortages should emerge about 2005. This will continue to get worse as the number of people who retire exceed the number who enter the workforce (Generation). Some economic observers predict financial disasters, both national and personal, when the baby boomers retire. They say that as nations of workers and investors become nations of retired consumers, withdrawals will far outweigh deposits in investment and savings vehicles. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While it is often times easy to lump a group of people into one category and assume similarities, it is important to recognize that differences within each generation do exist. Not only are the differences important from a general standpoint, but they also play a role in consumption behavior. By analyzing two individuals from the Baby Boomer generation, those born between 1946 and 1964, a clearer understanding of these differences and similarities can be obtained (cite). The overall goal of the interview is to address similarities and differences between two people of the same generation. With that being said, the questions asked were mainly focused on how each person viewed themselves in context to their generation. Each question will be presented and discussed, comparing and contrasting the answers given. This organization will foster a clearer outlook on how similar or different the respondent's answers are. Before discussing the questions and answers, a demographic comparison of both interviewees is necessary. Organizational culture is impacted by generational groups that differ in their communication styles, beliefs, and values as well as a preference between working alone or as a member of a team. This paper will compare and contrast the Gen Y and Baby Boomer generational groups in terms of organizational culture and interpersonal and group dynamics at Pick 'n Save. According to Reynolds, Campbell, & Greist (2008) Baby Boomers are considered those that were born between the years of 1946 and 1964. They also consider Generation Y to be those that were born between the years of 1982 and 2000. Generation Y is the offspring of Baby Boomers. These two generations are very important to companies since in the next decade, Baby Boomers will be retiring and Generation Yers will be entirely integrated into the global workplace (Reynolds, Campbell, & Greist 2008). Nicholson (2008) states that as about 80 million Baby Boomers retire, companies could face a major "brain drain" as so many senior and skilled workers walk out the door. Companies have to start thinking now about how they intend to fill the gabs left by retiring Baby Boomers. This leaves companies having to come up with plans on how they want to transition their workforce, not only to replace those that will be retiring, but to also make sure that their replacements are fully qualified and can take their job over ... Young males upon returning to the United States, Canada, and Australia following tours of duty overseas during World War II began families. This brought about a significant number of new children into the world. "In 1946, the first year of the Baby Boom, new births in the U.S. skyrocketed to 3.47 million births" (Rosenburg). This led to many events such as an increase in housing and the development of the suburb, consumerism multiplying, health care system, issues and a more recent topic: retirement. Men and women had to postpone any ideas for having a family because of the prolonged era of the Great Depression and World War II. In 1945, when World War II ended, the men came home, and they could finally resume their wishes to start a family. Almost exactly nine months after World War II ended, Historian Landon Jones said, "A cry of the baby was heard across the land" ("Baby"). Marketing for the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, and Female Harley Davidson riders Today's marketer must take into consideration many generational differences when considering a marketing strategy for a product. Most products are intended for a massive audience, requiring the marketer to utilize an integrated marketing scheme to encompass all generations. Specialized products, being marketed to a specific sector, also have a unique opportunity to market directly to a target audience. Being aware of the differences in marketing to mass audiences and the targeting of specific groups, is a valuable arrow in the quiver of a marketer. Comparing the differences in the older generations gives the marketer an insight into how to mass market, while targeting the groups as a whole. There is also an interesting opportunity for the marketer to target a very specific group for specialized products. While the job of the marketer remains the same, the methodology must be different to reach the intended audiences. The Silent Generation The silent generation consists of those born between 1928 and 1945. This group grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. As the baby boomers creep towards retirement age, a problem comes in being able to provide retirement services for a large population from a comparatively smaller population of workers. The baby boomers were a generation that defined America, contributing much to it's growth but in return created plenty of problems that we will deal with for years to come. At the same time, the older a person lives, the more risk they are to needing assistance from other publicly funded services such as caretakers, and also to provide them with the medicine they need to get by. The financial collapse is a very complex issue rooted in multiple causes, making it hard to put into a single sentence. However at it's core the reason for the collapse is that many investors and banks tried to get rich by taking on assumptions about the housing market and taking on huge risks that they didn't realize the full extent of. The beginning of the crisis is rooted in banks giving out subprime loans to people who would have not otherwise been given these loans. The banks assumed that these loans could be bundled and the numbers proved that they were safe investments, because enough people would pay their loans back. Another assumption that people held was that, because the housing market had a history of continual rise, that history would repeat itself and the value of housing would always rise. Generational Differences Between Baby Boomers and Millennials and The Impacts on HR Kimberly Senkler September 14, 2010 Human Resource Management BA 421 KP Normally we tend to think of diversity in relation to age, race, gender and religion. These days there is more focus being given to diversity in the form of generational differences. • 30. How Do Baby Boomers Affect Society Baby boomers are making a huge impact on our society and here is an article of why. The name baby boomers was given to the babies that are being born now, now being after the World War II. Right now there has been approximately 3.7 million babies born this year. The question still remains. Why are so many people having babies? Many believe that by having children their life will return to normalcy. For others it is a way to outnumber the amount of communists, so communism would not spread. Many people during World War II and the Great Depression decided to hold off on marriage and having children because there was a lot of insecurity around the world. Now that the war and depression are over they feel comfortable having children. Most baby boomers are growing up in the suburbs, so they grow up knowing many other children around the same age. The G.I. Bill that was passed a few years ago reduced the cost of living for soldiers who returned home.
