2. 1. Shaving
Die
Shaving is the secondary cutting operation.
It is done by removing a small amount of material from
the previously cut edge.
4. Shaving Die
is used
To improve the dimensional
accuracy of the part.
To improve the cut edge
characteristics of the part.
To improve the flatness of
the part.
6. 3.
Compound
Die
This die combines the
principles of the conventional
and inverted dies in one
station.
This type of die may produce
a workpiece which is pierced
and blanked at one station
and in one operation.
8. 4.Combination die
• In this die a cutting operation is combined with a bending and
drawing operation.
• More than one operations are possible in one stroke at a single stage .
10. 5. Coining
die
Coining is a form of precision
stamping in which a workpiece is
subjected to a sufficiently high stress
to induce plastic flow on the surface
of the material.
It is a metal squeezing operation
where the male and female dies are
different.
12. 6.
Embossing
die
Embossing die use tension to
stretch metal into a shallow
depression. The set primarily is
composed of a punch and cavity.
Design is uniform throughout the
thickness of sheet metal.
14. 7. Progressive
Die
A progressive or follow on die has a series of
operations.
At each station , an operation is performed on a
work piece during a stroke of the press.
Between stroke the piece in the metal strip is
transferred to the next station.
A finished work piece is made at each stroke of the
press.
While the piercing punch cuts a hole in the stroke ,
the blanking punch blanks out a portion of the
metal in which a hole had been pierced at a
previous station.
