Peyton's Character Analysis
As a child Peyton's only toys were real puppies and dogs all other toys were ignored. She never used
baby dolls either, it had to be an animal. Peyton was a shy person not scared of a situation, but
observed and watched before joining. Peyton's made lots of friends, after she warmed up to the
children and opened up. There were never any issues with getting along with people Peyton gave
everyone a try. As far as activities go, arts and crafts along with being outside were big. Being from
such a small town and a stay at home mom Peyton wasn't in many outside activities. Infancy with
Peyton was very difficult, because nothing was by the books and development was above average. It
was important that everyone was on the same schedule in the household. By three days old, Staci

Peyton also surprised Staci when she was walking by 9 months and how she has always been able to
hold her head up since day one. In the toddles years Peyton was stubborn, hard headed, and very
defiant personality that really came through. It was mind boggling that she had a child that didn't
like cartoons or animation everything watched was real life. Peyton had extreme spouts of anger as
a toddler and the only calming elements were water and puppies. Staci still isn't sure if it was due to
not hearing correctly as a child. As an adolescent Peyton turned out to be very docile and never had
another temperament of anger since toddler years. During free time Staci wanted to keep her kids

Descriptive Essay About My Mother
I was the one who discovered it. It was shocking and almost unbearable to see someone who I had
known since kindergarten to be so full of light, draped across the bed without a speck of color.
Despite her hardship in her latter years, Aimee was a character of joy, always seeing the best in
everyone and everything. She had no outspoken enemies, although not everyone was as thoughtful
to her as she was to them. Her only known adversaries were the boys who she always would turn
down. She waited for one that would be on the same intellectual and emotional level as her, if that
were even possible for a guy her age. She was reserved, yet outspoken when a voice was needed to
be heard. She was caring and as graceful as can be. Always as light as a feather, even when walking
down a busy hallway with her heavy books or through a crowded party, heavy–limbed from the
alcohol. Her last few years of high school were rough, while the worse than usual rumors stacked up
on the endless schoolwork which stacked up on her abusive father at home. Outwardly, she was still
happy except on that night. It was the twelfth year of going to the cabin. We had transitioned from
our first year there, filled with juvenile acts from sledding, hide and seek, and early bedtimes. Now
during the break for our last year of high school, our parents stayed behind, and the only time we
were out in the snow was to throw–up booze. Throughout the years, our friend group increased and
so did the drama. People from

Essay on Television as a Cultural Forum
Television can be considered a cultural forum. By cultural forum, this means issues and points of
view can be discussed openly and almost without punishment. These issues can vary anywhere from
male dominance in the household, to wars, to racism, to political jabs and still be covered under
freedom of speech. Television can hold a wide variety of opinions which may offend, but for the
most part due so to prove a point.
In the All in the Family episode we watched in class, it is no secret that Archie Bunker is racist. In
fact, in the episode we viewed, there is a racial argument between Archie and the George Jefferson.
Through this show, the writer's can convey thoughts, theories, and opinions about the ... Show more

Men, being as stubborn as they are, continue the racial barrage and eventually stop talking.
In the episode of Father Knows Best, Betty seeks to pursue a traditionally male–dominated
profession. Even though society looks down upon it, Betty still perseveres in her endeavors to
pursue a job she likes. Due to the current times, society sets a certain standard and you are expected
to follow along with it. Going against the grain is usually shunned or you are set apart from
everyone else. I feel this is a great quality, and more people should be like this.
In these two episodes, discrimination is evident. In Father Knows Best Betty is discriminated
against for attempting to pursue a profession that, in that time, was male–dominated. In 2005, men
and women should be considered equals in the work force, and be entitled to the same opportunities.
In that era, women were teachers, men were doctors, etc. There were standard jobs for each sex.
This is fine to talk about because it is in the TV realm. Writers are allowed to poke fun at society's
unwritten standards. In All in the Family Archie discriminates again African Americans and George
discriminates against Caucasians. Archie is brutally honest, even for our generation. His complete
disregard for feelings almost makes him appear archaic, but when put under a microscope, we see
the writers are challenging society, pushing the envelope even further. This freedom

The Influence Of Television On American Culture
TV today has a great deal of constructive outcomes and impacts on our public and American culture.
TV gives us supportive data, different types of instruction and diversion, which can provide some
beneficial outcomes on the public. On an everyday premise, TV keeps us educated with a lot of
supportive data. However, viewer must watch with wisdom. Viewers must remember the television

Control is about point of view. Regardless of whether you are the over the top strict parent or the

Ohio State Football as a Religion? Essay
As the sunrises over the crisp fall horizon, followers begin to surround the sacred space in
anticipation for what is about to take place. The sacred space is soon surrounded by people who are
dressed in the sacred colors, some wearing necklaces of their totem, while others wear headdresses
that adorn with their sacred symbol. People begin to drink, play music, and prepare a banquet feast
for each other, creating a festival atmosphere in hope that today's ritual will be a success. As the
ritual gets set to begin followers begin to crowd into the sacred space, surrounded with pictures and
names of those who have reached greatness. As the ritual begins, music is played in order to bring

Through its use of myths, rituals, devotion of the fans, and use of space as well as time, Ohio State
Football seems to be more then just a sport to many people, it seems to be a religion.
In this paper I will aim to show that, as the world seems to become more secular through modernity
there also seems to be a "resacralization" of the world. Looking specifically at the resacralization of
the world, I hope to show that sports can function as a religion; particularly within the context of
Ohio State Football. I will aim to find clear patterns and themes between traditional and/or primal
religions and the Ohio State Football Culture. These patterns allow the culture to act as a new form
of religion, blurring the line between the sacred and profane.
Ohio State Football Functioning as Religion?
In his book, Authentic Fates: Religion and American Popular Culture, David Chidester looks at
number of different themes in pop culture and the religious dimensions that surround them.
Specifically, one chapter focuses on baseball, Coca–Cola, and rock 'n' roll in which he argues that
these, "Seem to encompass a wildly diverse but somehow representative range of possibilities for
what might count as religion. They evoke familiar metaphors – the religious institution of the
church, the religious desires attached to the fetish, and the religious exchanges surround the sacred

The Series Of The Family Produced By Norman Milton
The series All in the Family produced by Norman Milton Lear from 1971–1979 is one of the most
controversial and groundbreaking television shows ever created. The successful sitcom has covered
many touchy subjects involving race, ethnicity, homosexuality, rape, and religious beliefs. Towards
the end of the third season, episode 20 which was called "Archie is Branded", aired on February
24th 1973 touched many subjects that were heavily debated on the fact of whether or not it was
appropriate to air on live television. The lead male characters Mike and Archie get in a heated

The original hit show, All in the Family featuring Carroll O'Connor (Archie), Jean Stapleton (Edith),

Forshadowing And Foreshadowing In Crash By Paul Haggis
Inevitable tragedy and sorrow is foreshadowed by Paul Haggis in his film Crash to heighten their
significance to the audience. Foreshadowing of inevitable tragedy and sorrow is first seen during
one of the initial scenes, which interrupts the process of Persian man (Fahad) and his daughter
(Dorri) buying a firearm. Firearms are a symbol of violence and the purchase of the weapon,
foreshadows something terrible to later come. The next use of foreshadowing, came from the
invisible cloak scene between Daniel and his young daughter (Lara). During this scene, Daniel

encounters. To comfort his daughter Daniel conceives an imaginary bulletproof ... Show more

Christopher statuettes. As St. Christopher is known as the patron saint of travels, these statuettes in
culture are typically placed on car dashboards and carried with one. As a representation of faith, in
the belief of divine power to protect oneself with safe travel. In the film the statuettes most
powerfully connect with run–away now gangster/hijacker Peter Waters. Each time after hijacking a
car, he places his statuette on the dashboard, for Peter his statuette and this act represents his good
will and nature as a person with strong faith, even though he commits felony. Here, the audience
sees that the role of gangster doesn't fit his personality. Later in the film, during the ending events,
Tom Hansen picks up the hitchhiking Peter. Onwards, while in the car Peter on reflex looks to the
dashboard and surprisingly notices Hansen's St. Christopher statuette there, from which he begins
chuckling at. – "Something else funny? Oh yeah. So, what's that? Just people, man". As for Peter
seeing the statuette was a humorous reminder of himself and the faith that people share. For the
audience, this moment has deep meaning showing the connection of faith between the two
characters. Unfortunately, however Hansen is the only one to not understand the situation and from
misunderstanding combined with racial stereotyping, he ends up shooting Peter to death. The impact
of Peters death has a huge effect on the audience, a good–willed man of faith and

The Ohio State University is home to one of the best college football teams in America. The
university has a rich history where several famous players and coaches have emerged. One famous
coach in particular is Jim Tressel, who coached at Ohio State from 2001 until 2011. During his
tenure, he had a winning record that came to an abrupt end as a result of multiple ethics violations.
Tressel's full range leadership, critical thinking, team dynamics and ethical behaviors will be
examined in this thesis. Based on the information found in the study guides, Tressel is a visionary
leader who was not ethical. Despite a lapse in ethics, he led the Buckeyes for nearly a decade with a

Importance Of Art And Literature In The Perception Of Society
The importance of Art and Literature in the Perception of Society
Art and literature contain the power to transport one to extraordinary settings and time periods.
Depending on the novel, the reader can travel the lands of Narnia and uncover ways to prevent
bullying without even leaving the chair. Likewise, with art, one can join the Picasso era and identify
the struggles he encountered. Clearly, creative compositions aid in portraying the different aspects
of society and Miriam Toews effectively unravels this mystery in her novel The Flying Troutmans.
The author demonstrates how art and literature helps one make sense of the world around them by
considering different perspectives, by analyzing character developments, and by building intellect.
This eventually leads to self–understanding.
Art and literature become a source of guidance when one learns from the integrated insights of
human experiences. Many writers incorporate unique characters, allowing the audience to view
situations through unfamiliar perspectives and discover significant information. For example, Min,
Logan and Thebes mother, attempts suicide several times, experiences heartbreak, and eventually,
refuses to meet with her family. For Min, novels are "[her] girl guide to the universe...[Her] library
of loss" (Toews 167) since she can identify with the central characters. Specifically, because she
suffers from a mental illness, she focuses on the protagonists who endure a comparable disorder.
Thereon, she

This is just a tiny bit of what happens in the show. This show is very negative on children and they
way they will interact with other in public. They also make fun of amputees, this can be very
harmful to the way children interact with other kids that have this kind of problem example Joe is
Peter Griffins neighbour and there is an episode that says no legs no service.
Also, this show is a very sexist show, they always make reference to women being in the kitchen
and that is all they're good at for example, in one episode peter tells Louis that making sandwiches
and babies are the only thing she is good for. This kind of behaviour shows to young children that
women are no good for anything because that is how the men on this show treat the women. There's
also lots of coarse language towards women, for example Quagmire a neighbours always has many
women over to his house for pleasurable reasons and you hear him call them names like whores,
bitches, sluts and more this foul language towards women is another bad influence. Also peter has a
teenage daughter Meg, everyone in the show is mean to her. This girl is treated very badly for
example in an episode she had sexual intercourse with a guy and a little after that the guy Brandon,
broke up with her, in another episode she has another boyfriend Luke and Louis, her mother stole

Cooper Manning; Hero or Failure?
Chapter 1 During the offseason before his freshman season at Ole Miss, Cooper Manning felt
numbness in his right bicep. Archie Manning, Cooper's father, rushed him to the Mayo Clinic, where
he underwent testing. The results of the tests would change his life forever. Cooper Manning was

Ohio State And Michigan State
The Greatest Rivalry
Their first meeting, which was held in Ann Arbor, was 34–0. Michigan dominated Ohio State in
their first couple meetings. "Carmen Ohio", Ohio State alma mater, was wrote in 1902 on the way
back from Ann Arbor after losing to Michigan 86–0. Ohio State better and better each year until
they final grew big enough to join the Big Ten in 1912. It is 1950, snow is coming down harder than
ever and the wind is brutal but yet two teams are out on a football field with a stadium full of Scarlet
and Blue all around. Michigan vs Ohio State has long been the greatest rivalry in football. They
fought back and fourth, winning and losing, for over 100 years. But even through all the different
coaches and players, through the fights and tears, Michigan and Ohio State will always be the
greatest tradition in football. This essay will be comparing Ohio State and Michigan throughout the
years, from winning streaks to greatest games and players. It'll also be reminiscing bowl games
where it was 2 degree and a blizzarding down on the players to bowl games and were very one
sided. Ohio State has not always been better than Michigan but over the years they have fought back
and forth and Ohio State has slowly narrowed the hole and are coming back with fire in their eyes.
It is the spring of 1890 and all around students are gathering at Ohio Wesleyan University to watch
the battling bishops play a team that has just beginning. That team is The Ohio State football team.

The Relationship Between Riverdale And Gilgamesh
Death and grief are common themes in literature and entertainment as a result of their presence
throughout history. These themes create a tie between the most ancient texts and modern pop
culture. An example of this is Gilgamesh and Riverdale. In the ancient Sumerian narrative,
Gilgamesh by Herbert Mason, Gilgamesh, a ruthless king deals with the death of his newfound
friend, Enkidu. Before, Gilgamesh did not care for his people. He forced brides to sleep with him,
and did not take care of the great walls his subjects took so long to make. On the other hand, Enkidu
grew up in the forest with the animals, and learned to protect and respect all beings. Both
maintained their strength and friendship until Enkidu reached his disastrous fate. In the modern TV
show, Riverdale by Rob Seidenglanz, Cheryl Blossom grieves for her twin brother, Jason. The two
were inseparable from birth, and their entire town was aware. Similarly to Gilgamesh, Cheryl was
unsympathetic and disliked by her peers. Jason, like Enkidu, was more responsible and
compassionate. In both Gilgamesh and Riverdale, characters learn to cope with the loss of a
meaningful person in their life and ultimately experience change as a result.
The friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, as well as the attachment between Cheryl Blossom
and her brother, Jason, is what makes their deaths so important. Gilgamesh and Enkidu's bond first

Family Guy Satire
When I was in middle school, I first discovered Family Guy late at night while I was channel
surfing in my hotel room. Usually, cartoons are never shown at night, simply because most kids are
asleep by that time. I didn't find anything decent, until I saw this cartoon. I figured it was for
children, but I after I saw the theme song, I second guessed that. I continued to watch the show and
even though it clearly had adult humor, I still continued to watch it, because I found it hilarious.
There are a lot of shows, like Family Guy that have people take in so much offense, because it is
only seen for comedic purposes. I will be covering the cruel broadcasting tactics that Family Guy
was placed in with the FOX channel, due to its low ratings, adult humor and sexual themes, as well
as its satirical episodes, which caused the cancellation of the show twice throughout its run and I
will be going through the reasons behind it.
Family Guy is a typical show that focuses in comedy that is not usually accepted by people who are

governmental comedy with family morals and ethics, which goes toward a certain crowd. Family
Guy is also seen to control a state of people over the worship of mainstream accomplishments and
endless teachings to survive one's lifetime. MacFarlane also has politically–based ethics/morals
behind each character, which fascinates the majority of the audience. I believe that since Family
Guy is a very distinct shown compared to others, is the reason why it has such a large fan

Henry Jenkin's Transmedia Storytelling
Riverdale is a television series that is based on the Archie comic books and can be considered an
example of transmedia storytelling according to Henry Jenkin's criteria in his article "Transmedia
Storytelling 101." The series follows Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Jughead,
characters from the Archie comic books, as the town of Riverdale is dealing with the aftermath of
Jason Blossom's death. Riverdale puts a mysterious and dark twist on the Archie comic books.

The show permits people who have never read the Archie comic books to enjoy it, but it still has
elements from the comic books that people will enjoy too. Henry Jenkin's in his blogpost
"Transmedia Storytelling 101" states, "Transmedia storytelling practices may expand the potential
market for a property by creating different points of entry for different audience segments"
(Jenkins). As seen in the case of Riverdale, the market surrounding the Archie comic books is
expanding from the comic books to a television series based on the comic books. Riverdale appeals
to a teen and young–adult demographic and this allows for people who may not have grown up with
the Archie comics to become familiar with the characters. It also provides a darker series of events
than what was portrayed in the Archie comics which may appeal to a different audience than the
comics. Additionally, viewers of the television series who have never read the comic books may
start reading them because of their interest in the television show. Accordingly, people who are fans
of the comic books may be drawn to Riverdale because it is based on the comic books. Therefore,
this creates several entry points for people to become involved in Riverdale and the Archie comic

Comparing Family Guy And The Simpsons
Family Guy and The Simpsons have differences in comedic style and family friends and similarities
in family personalities .
To begin off with, Family Guy and The Simpsons have differences in comedic style. Family Guy
uses humor that has to be taken lightly, Family Guy overuses a joke until it dies and Family Guy
takes a joke from zero to hundred in about six seconds. The Simpsons use humor that is funny, but
doesn't kill your braincells. For instance, in Family Guy there was an episode mocking terrorism
after terrorist threats. The Simpsons wouldn't touch the topic of terrorism until several year later at
least. The Simpsons does not overuse a joke until it dies. For example in Family Guy if a joke is
made about a song they play the whole song. In The Simpsons they will parody a song for a few
seconds. In The Simpsons it doesn't go from zero to a hundred in six seconds. For example Family
Guy had a rating of TV–14 on its airdate with some episodes being TV–MA. The Simpsons is

The social progression of America in the 20th and 21st centuries has been arguably advantageous. In
the years following the feminist and civil rights movements, the United States has undeniably
developed into the world's leading democratic system. Women and minorities have equal citizenship

References to primarily American popular culture and literature create a discourse investigating the
merits of our nation's development. Each text employs comedy at Sigmund Freud's tendentious level
of jest to challenge personal and social reticence without appearing antagonistic to any specific
group. The use of intertexuality condenses the length of the works and lends to the humor of the
subject matter by alluding to already familiar people, places, and events in American culture.
Without prior knowledge of such entities, most of the texts' meaning and wit will be lost.
Nevertheless, a complete understanding of such allusions will reveal the juxtaposition of America's
modern progression: society has improved in certain aspects, yet has somewhat been demoted in
other regards.
The long–established attraction of migrating to America is derived from its historic reputation as the
land of opportunity. The Statue of Liberty symbolizes the ability of the wretched refuse to surpass
birth and class distinctions through hard work and economy. But the overwhelming importance
placed on possessions as status symbols has gradually lost its allure. In Music For Torching, A.M.

All in the Family
All in the Family
In 1971, New York Times columnist Fred Ferretti wrote an article about a new television series
called All in the Family. Ferretti asked, whether or not if racism and bigotry were considered funny
and he concluded that it was not and as a result believed that the show was lacking good taste.
Apparently, the television viewers of America disagreed. Running from 1971 to 1979, All In The
Family wasn't the first television series to tackle major issues on a major network, but what was
innovative about the series, was that is that it hewed its situational comedy from topical issues, and
it explored them through characters we got to know and cared about every week. Simply put, All in
the Family wasn't just a great situational comedy; it as was an ongoing national conversation rooted
in well–written, well–acted and multifaceted characters.
In 1969, a young comedy writer named Norman Lear was given approval by CBS to create an
American version of the popular British sitcom Till Death Do Us Part. Produced and developed by
Lear, this concept of a sitcom about a blue–collar family would eventually become, All in the
Family. Premiering in January of 1971, the series focused on the lives of a working–class family
from the New York City borough of Queens, The Bunkers. Archie and his "dingbat" wife, Edith as
well as their daughter and "little goil" Gloria and her liberal husband Mike "Meathead" Stivic.

The Effects Of Television Violence On Children
Television has become one of the most, if not the most, used form of entertainment for all ages.
Every TV show has some kind of age limit whether it's rated G or R, it's not always easy for parents
to moderate what their children are watching. Young children are very moldable, not only by the
people around them, but what is on TV. I have conducted an experiment to see how much violence
and aggression are in everyday television shows that children are likely to watch. I have watched
three different half hour TV shows, tallying the amount of aggressive, and prosocial behaviors that
occur on the shows. The first show watched was a typical Saturday morning TV show, SpongeBob.
The second show watched is a prosocial TV program, Sesame Street. The third show watched is an
adult cartoon, Family Guy, which is meant for adults but a high population of children are the
audience. The independent variable of this experiment is the different levels of each show's
aggression or prosocial behaviors. The dependent variable is the aggression or prosocial level of the
TV show, since I have no child to study for this project. This experiment very much relates to
another experiment called the Bobo Doll experiment. Children in the experiment are from ages 3–6
are either shown an aggressive video of the Bobo doll beaten, or a video with nothing aggressive.
The results showed that the majority of children who were shown the aggression video imitated the
same actions and more to the Bobo doll. The

Compare And Contrast All In The Family
1.) How is this TV show different from shows of today? How is it similar?
"All in the Family" differs from show of today in many ways. The many derogatory and racist
terms, used primarily by Archie Bunker, would not be able to said in a script for a modern–day
television show. Words and terms used to describe people of any non–American race or people in
general would be seen as non–politically correct. The common racism theme throughout the show
would degrade the idea of American equality, which is a vital necessity in our growing nation. The
show also mocked religion, referring to a burning cross and "roasting marshmallows over it." This
kind of comment would create a national eruption of offended individuals. Today's television shows
are reviewed to portray a politically correct message, or a decline in reputation will occur for
anyone involved with the show. While "All in the Family" greatly differs from modern American
television shows, it also contains some similarities. The show portrayed an overall theme of how
people talked and acted in their daily lives compared to a fictional or dramatized movie or television
show. In the 1971 show premier, racial inequality was a common theme in American society. The
way Archie talked about others, and even the disrespect to his son–in–law and mocking of his wife,
was common. This slang was honest and normal to the Bunkers, which showed real–world issues
with racism and family interaction. Many real–world issues are also

Thrown Into A Fairytale
Back when the so called "fairytale kingdom" of Winalot was a kingdom of peace, players would
envisage gnomes relaxed on their prized mushrooms, as elegant, blonde young women dashed

is odd in theme, especially when you consider that this is a game that puts players into the shoes of a

Riverdale Character Analysis
Riverdale is an American television program that is based primarily on the Archie comics which
were first released in the 1940's. The comics focus largely on a love triangle between the three main
characters, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Archie Andrews. Unlike the television show, Betty
and Veronica see one another as frenemies and are constantly at odds over Archie, who is never at
fault for any of the mishaps that happen. The Archie comics were never big advocates of feminism
and instead focused primarily on Archie and the two female characters invented to fight over him,
cementing the idea that girls are only around to win boys affection. In contrast, Riverdale the
television show focuses on Betty and Veronica as friends instead of frenemies and builds upon the
idea that girls are smart, capable, and are stronger when they work together. The new television spin
on the original comics brings together the old characters and main plot points and puts an innovative
feminist attitude towards them to mesh them with the beliefs and issues of today's society. The
characters in this show are much more than the typical jock, nerd, good, bad stereotypes that are
commonly depicted in teenage dramas viewed on the television today. The women of Riverdale
prove that for positive change to take place, friendship must take precedent and sticking together as
girls is the most important aspect of driving forward social change. In the series premiere, the

The most intelligent members of the family are the dog, Brian, and the infant, Stewie–which might

  • 2. Peyton's Character Analysis As a child Peyton's only toys were real puppies and dogs all other toys were ignored. She never used baby dolls either, it had to be an animal. Peyton was a shy person not scared of a situation, but observed and watched before joining. Peyton's made lots of friends, after she warmed up to the children and opened up. There were never any issues with getting along with people Peyton gave everyone a try. As far as activities go, arts and crafts along with being outside were big. Being from such a small town and a stay at home mom Peyton wasn't in many outside activities. Infancy with Peyton was very difficult, because nothing was by the books and development was above average. It was important that everyone was on the same schedule in the household. • 3. Descriptive Essay About My Mother I was the one who discovered it. It was shocking and almost unbearable to see someone who I had known since kindergarten to be so full of light, draped across the bed without a speck of color. Despite her hardship in her latter years, Aimee was a character of joy, always seeing the best in everyone and everything. She had no outspoken enemies, although not everyone was as thoughtful to her as she was to them. Her only known adversaries were the boys who she always would turn down. She waited for one that would be on the same intellectual and emotional level as her, if that were even possible for a guy her age. She was reserved, yet outspoken when a voice was needed to be heard. She was caring and as graceful as can be. Always as light as a feather, even when walking down a busy hallway with her heavy books or through a crowded party, heavy–limbed from the alcohol. Her last few years of high school were rough, while the worse than usual rumors stacked up on the endless schoolwork which stacked up on her abusive father at home. Outwardly, she was still happy except on that night. It was the twelfth year of going to the cabin. We had transitioned from our first year there, filled with juvenile acts from sledding, hide and seek, and early bedtimes. Now during the break for our last year of high school, our parents stayed behind, and the only time we were out in the snow was to throw–up booze. Throughout the years, our friend group increased and so did the drama. People from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Television as a Cultural Forum Television can be considered a cultural forum. By cultural forum, this means issues and points of view can be discussed openly and almost without punishment. These issues can vary anywhere from male dominance in the household, to wars, to racism, to political jabs and still be covered under freedom of speech. Television can hold a wide variety of opinions which may offend, but for the most part due so to prove a point. In the All in the Family episode we watched in class, it is no secret that Archie Bunker is racist. In fact, in the episode we viewed, there is a racial argument between Archie and the George Jefferson. Through this show, the writer's can convey thoughts, theories, and opinions about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Men, being as stubborn as they are, continue the racial barrage and eventually stop talking. In the episode of Father Knows Best, Betty seeks to pursue a traditionally male–dominated profession. Even though society looks down upon it, Betty still perseveres in her endeavors to pursue a job she likes. Due to the current times, society sets a certain standard and you are expected to follow along with it. Going against the grain is usually shunned or you are set apart from everyone else. I feel this is a great quality, and more people should be like this. In these two episodes, discrimination is evident. In Father Knows Best Betty is discriminated against for attempting to pursue a profession that, in that time, was male–dominated. In 2005, men and women should be considered equals in the work force, and be entitled to the same opportunities. In that era, women were teachers, men were doctors, etc. There were standard jobs for each sex. This is fine to talk about because it is in the TV realm. Writers are allowed to poke fun at society's unwritten standards. In All in the Family Archie discriminates again African Americans and George discriminates against Caucasians. Archie is brutally honest, even for our generation. His complete disregard for feelings almost makes him appear archaic, but when put under a microscope, we see the writers are challenging society, pushing the envelope even further. This freedom ... The sacred space is soon surrounded by people who are dressed in the sacred colors, some wearing necklaces of their totem, while others wear headdresses that adorn with their sacred symbol. People begin to drink, play music, and prepare a banquet feast for each other, creating a festival atmosphere in hope that today's ritual will be a success. Through its use of myths, rituals, devotion of the fans, and use of space as well as time, Ohio State Football seems to be more then just a sport to many people, it seems to be a religion. In this paper I will aim to show that, as the world seems to become more secular through modernity there also seems to be a "resacralization" of the world. Looking specifically at the resacralization of the world, I hope to show that sports can function as a religion; particularly within the context of Ohio State Football. I will aim to find clear patterns and themes between traditional and/or primal religions and the Ohio State Football Culture. These patterns allow the culture to act as a new form of religion, blurring the line between the sacred and profane. Ohio State Football Functioning as Religion? As St. Christopher is known as the patron saint of travels, these statuettes in culture are typically placed on car dashboards and carried with one. As a representation of faith, in the belief of divine power to protect oneself with safe travel. In the film the statuettes most powerfully connect with run–away now gangster/hijacker Peter Waters. Each time after hijacking a car, he places his statuette on the dashboard, for Peter his statuette and this act represents his good will and nature as a person with strong faith, even though he commits felony. Here, the audience sees that the role of gangster doesn't fit his personality. Later in the film, during the ending events, Tom Hansen picks up the hitchhiking Peter. Onwards, while in the car Peter on reflex looks to the dashboard and surprisingly notices Hansen's St. Christopher statuette there, from which he begins chuckling at. – "Something else funny? Oh yeah. So, what's that? Just people, man". As for Peter seeing the statuette was a humorous reminder of himself and the faith that people share. For the audience, this moment has deep meaning showing the connection of faith between the two characters. In fact there had just been a blizzard. But that's what the weather was like here in northern Russia. Agent 001 had scarcely made it out of the flaming Indian base when the hills echoed with gun shots. He had accomplished the main part of his mission, destroying secret files that contained nuclear launch codes, but the part of getting away without getting killed was going to be the hard part. As John opened the balcony door, he knew it was going to be a beautiful morning. The sun was shining and everyone was blissful over the barely missed a blizzard that had passed through the night before. As john was enjoying the view over Moscow, the phone in his bedroom rang. It made him wince. He knew who was calling, no one else but them ever called. He shut the balcony door and went into the bedroom picking up the phone. "Hello", a person on the other line said in a very monotone voice, as if they had done this same call over and over again. "Hello, 001 here", john replied. The university has a rich history where several famous players and coaches have emerged. One famous coach in particular is Jim Tressel, who coached at Ohio State from 2001 until 2011. During his tenure, he had a winning record that came to an abrupt end as a result of multiple ethics violations. Tressel's full range leadership, critical thinking, team dynamics and ethical behaviors will be examined in this thesis. • 12. Importance Of Art And Literature In The Perception Of Society The importance of Art and Literature in the Perception of Society Art and literature contain the power to transport one to extraordinary settings and time periods. Depending on the novel, the reader can travel the lands of Narnia and uncover ways to prevent bullying without even leaving the chair. Likewise, with art, one can join the Picasso era and identify the struggles he encountered. Clearly, creative compositions aid in portraying the different aspects of society and Miriam Toews effectively unravels this mystery in her novel The Flying Troutmans. The author demonstrates how art and literature helps one make sense of the world around them by considering different perspectives, by analyzing character developments, and by building intellect. This eventually leads to self–understanding. Art and literature become a source of guidance when one learns from the integrated insights of human experiences. Many writers incorporate unique characters, allowing the audience to view situations through unfamiliar perspectives and discover significant information. For example, Min, Logan and Thebes mother, attempts suicide several times, experiences heartbreak, and eventually, refuses to meet with her family. For Min, novels are "[her] girl guide to the universe...[Her] library of loss" (Toews 167) since she can identify with the central characters. Specifically, because she suffers from a mental illness, she focuses on the protagonists who endure a comparable disorder. Thereon, she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Relationship Between Riverdale And Gilgamesh Death and grief are common themes in literature and entertainment as a result of their presence throughout history. These themes create a tie between the most ancient texts and modern pop culture. An example of this is Gilgamesh and Riverdale. In the ancient Sumerian narrative, Gilgamesh by Herbert Mason, Gilgamesh, a ruthless king deals with the death of his newfound friend, Enkidu. Before, Gilgamesh did not care for his people. He forced brides to sleep with him, and did not take care of the great walls his subjects took so long to make. On the other hand, Enkidu grew up in the forest with the animals, and learned to protect and respect all beings. Both maintained their strength and friendship until Enkidu reached his disastrous fate. In the modern TV show, Riverdale by Rob Seidenglanz, Cheryl Blossom grieves for her twin brother, Jason. The two were inseparable from birth, and their entire town was aware. Similarly to Gilgamesh, Cheryl was unsympathetic and disliked by her peers. Jason, like Enkidu, was more responsible and compassionate. In both Gilgamesh and Riverdale, characters learn to cope with the loss of a meaningful person in their life and ultimately experience change as a result. The friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, as well as the attachment between Cheryl Blossom and her brother, Jason, is what makes their deaths so important. • 27. Comparing Family Guy And The Simpsons Family Guy and The Simpsons have differences in comedic style and family friends and similarities in family personalities . To begin off with, Family Guy and The Simpsons have differences in comedic style. Family Guy uses humor that has to be taken lightly, Family Guy overuses a joke until it dies and Family Guy takes a joke from zero to hundred in about six seconds. The Simpsons use humor that is funny, but doesn't kill your braincells. For instance, in Family Guy there was an episode mocking terrorism after terrorist threats. The Simpsons wouldn't touch the topic of terrorism until several year later at least. The Simpsons does not overuse a joke until it dies. A.M.Holmes' Music For Torching, Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy, and Tony Kushner's Angels in America The social progression of America in the 20th and 21st centuries has been arguably advantageous. In the years following the feminist and civil rights movements, the United States has undeniably developed into the world's leading democratic system. Women and minorities have equal citizenship status under the law. There are more females in the workforce than ever before, and formerly guarded issues such as homosexuality and domestic problems can now be addressed openly in social and political forums. However, the question remains as to whether or not such progression has benefited American culture and its population as a whole. Perhaps we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... References to primarily American popular culture and literature create a discourse investigating the merits of our nation's development. Each text employs comedy at Sigmund Freud's tendentious level of jest to challenge personal and social reticence without appearing antagonistic to any specific group. The use of intertexuality condenses the length of the works and lends to the humor of the subject matter by alluding to already familiar people, places, and events in American culture. Without prior knowledge of such entities, most of the texts' meaning and wit will be lost. Nevertheless, a complete understanding of such allusions will reveal the juxtaposition of America's modern progression: society has improved in certain aspects, yet has somewhat been demoted in other regards. The long–established attraction of migrating to America is derived from its historic reputation as the land of opportunity. The Statue of Liberty symbolizes the ability of the wretched refuse to surpass birth and class distinctions through hard work and economy. He hated these calls they were always so mind–numbing the only pleasurable part was when they were over. • 30. Gilgamesh and Enkidu's bond first influences their actions on their journey together, "Enkidu was afraid of the forest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. All in the Family All in the Family In 1971, New York Times columnist Fred Ferretti wrote an article about a new television series called All in the Family. Ferretti asked, whether or not if racism and bigotry were considered funny and he concluded that it was not and as a result believed that the show was lacking good taste. Apparently, the television viewers of America disagreed. Running from 1971 to 1979, All In The Family wasn't the first television series to tackle major issues on a major network, but what was innovative about the series, was that is that it hewed its situational comedy from topical issues, and it explored them through characters we got to know and cared about every week. Simply put, All in the Family wasn't just a great situational comedy; it as was an ongoing national conversation rooted in well–written, well–acted and multifaceted characters. In 1969, a young comedy writer named Norman Lear was given approval by CBS to create an American version of the popular British sitcom Till Death Do Us Part. Produced and developed by Lear, this concept of a sitcom about a blue–collar family would eventually become, All in the Family. Premiering in January of 1971, the series focused on the lives of a working–class family from the New York City borough of Queens, The Bunkers. • 32. The Effects Of Television Violence On Children Television has become one of the most, if not the most, used form of entertainment for all ages. Every TV show has some kind of age limit whether it's rated G or R, it's not always easy for parents to moderate what their children are watching. Young children are very moldable, not only by the people around them, but what is on TV. I have conducted an experiment to see how much violence and aggression are in everyday television shows that children are likely to watch. I have watched three different half hour TV shows, tallying the amount of aggressive, and prosocial behaviors that occur on the shows. The first show watched was a typical Saturday morning TV show, SpongeBob. The second show watched is a prosocial TV program, Sesame Street. The third show watched is an adult cartoon, Family Guy, which is meant for adults but a high population of children are the audience. The independent variable of this experiment is the different levels of each show's aggression or prosocial behaviors. The dependent variable is the aggression or prosocial level of the TV show, since I have no child to study for this project. This experiment very much relates to another experiment called the Bobo Doll experiment. Children in the experiment are from ages 3–6 are either shown an aggressive video of the Bobo doll beaten, or a video with nothing aggressive. The results showed that the majority of children who were shown the aggression video imitated the same actions and more to the Bobo doll. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Compare And Contrast All In The Family 1.) How is this TV show different from shows of today? How is it similar? "All in the Family" differs from show of today in many ways. The many derogatory and racist terms, used primarily by Archie Bunker, would not be able to said in a script for a modern–day television show. Words and terms used to describe people of any non–American race or people in general would be seen as non–politically correct. The common racism theme throughout the show would degrade the idea of American equality, which is a vital necessity in our growing nation. The show also mocked religion, referring to a burning cross and "roasting marshmallows over it." This kind of comment would create a national eruption of offended individuals. Today's television shows are reviewed to portray a politically correct message, or a decline in reputation will occur for anyone involved with the show. While "All in the Family" greatly differs from modern American television shows, it also contains some similarities. The show portrayed an overall theme of how people talked and acted in their daily lives compared to a fictional or dramatized movie or television show. In the 1971 show premier, racial inequality was a common theme in American society. The way Archie talked about others, and even the disrespect to his son–in–law and mocking of his wife, was common. This slang was honest and normal to the Bunkers, which showed real–world issues with racism and family interaction. Many real–world issues are also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Riverdale Character Analysis Riverdale is an American television program that is based primarily on the Archie comics which were first released in the 1940's. The comics focus largely on a love triangle between the three main characters, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Archie Andrews. Unlike the television show, Betty and Veronica see one another as frenemies and are constantly at odds over Archie, who is never at fault for any of the mishaps that happen. The Archie comics were never big advocates of feminism and instead focused primarily on Archie and the two female characters invented to fight over him, cementing the idea that girls are only around to win boys affection. In contrast, Riverdale the television show focuses on Betty and Veronica as friends instead of frenemies and builds upon the idea that girls are smart, capable, and are stronger when they work together. The new television spin on the original comics brings together the old characters and main plot points and puts an innovative feminist attitude towards them to mesh them with the beliefs and issues of today's society. The characters in this show are much more than the typical jock, nerd, good, bad stereotypes that are commonly depicted in teenage dramas viewed on the television today. The women of Riverdale prove that for positive change to take place, friendship must take precedent and sticking together as girls is the most important aspect of driving forward social change. The show is set in the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island and exhibits much of its humor in the form of cutaway gags that often lampoon the American culture.
