The Relevance Today of A Jury of Her Peers Essay
In "A Jury of Her Peers," Susan Glaspell illustrates many social standards women
experienced at the turn of the century. She allows the reader to see how a woman's life was
completely ruled by social laws, and thus by her husband. Glaspell also reveals the ignorance of the
men in the story, in particular the sheriff and the county attorney. I think some examples are rather
extreme, but in Glaspell's day, they would have probably been common.
Women did not have many rights at the turn of the century. What few rights and freedoms they did
have were dominated by social standards. They were expected to cater to their husbands' wishes and
commands. I think their society oppressed them more often than their own husbands did. A good ...

The women seem to understand the hardships the men face, but feel that their own jobs are more
difficult. At that time, men, working outdoors, had set hours, whereas the women worked almost all
of the time they were awake.
The sheriff is particularly critical of Mrs. Wright. He does not consider her work to be of any worth.
He dismisses her concerns about her preserves as pointless, not taking into consideration her time
and effort put into them (Glaspell 264). He laughs about her wanting an apron while in jail when she
most likely wore an apron daily at home. The county attorney creates a mess of pans under the sink
by kicking them without any regard (Glaspell 264). I wonder if he would appreciate someone
entering his office with such little respect for his things? The deputy dirties the hand towel, which
leads to the county attorney complaining about Mrs. Wright's house keeping (Glaspell 264). None of
the men appreciate Mrs. Wright's efforts. They are oblivious to her daily life whereas Mrs. Hale and
Mrs. Peters realize what she had been put through. Only when I realized this did I fully understand
the title, "A Jury of Her Peers." By protecting Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters
are truly a jury of her peers.
The county attorney, the sheriff, and his deputies in "A Jury of Her Peers" all convey a n
impression of ignorance and poor investigation to the reader. Sheriff Peters seems to be in complete
control over the investigation. He refuses

The history of a Medical examiners origin started in France and Scotland and was brought to the
United States in the late 1800s. A medical examiner is an appointed medically qualified officer
whose duty is to investigate deaths and bodily injuries that occur under unusual or suspicious
circumstances, to perform post–mortems, and sometimes to initiate inquests. The medical examiner
(ME) is the person in charge of the forensic investigation of a death that has occurred in his or her
area of jurisdiction, whether it is a homicide, suicide, accident, or other suspicious death. He or she
has a number of tasks to carry out, chief of which is the determination of the cause and manner of
the death through performing an autopsy . The medical examiner also takes charge of the analysis of
evidence , works with the police investigating the scene of the crime, and presents evidence in court.
In short, the ME is involved in both the medical and legal sides of a forensic investigation. ... Show

The Importance Of Forensic Pathology
Abstract
Forensic pathologist play a vital role in the justice system in matters concerning questions of death.
Forensic pathology has been considered a specialty in medicine. Although often not recognized
forensic pathology is a growing specialty. Recent decades have brought a plethora of technological
advances, popularized criminal cases, and even mainstream media programs that has pushed this
specialty into the eyes of the public, boosting this professions esteem. However modern forensic
science faces enormous challenges. Forensic science has not developed a culture that reflects
important aspects of how science builds on peer review research. The Importance of Forensic
Pathologist
The role of a forensics pathologist in today's society has become one of great importance. These
pathologist provide huge contributions to court cases, grieving families, and the universe, in general.
Society should know the essential information of a forensic pathologist, the responsibilities, the
aspects examined when a forensics pathologist is determinig the cause of death, why they play a
important part in the universe, and lastly why there is not a huge amount of forensic pathologist.
Society, as a whole, does not recognize how important the role a forensics pathologist plays in
solving the unknown.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO)
The core law enforcement agency for the county of Hillsborough, is the Hillsborough County
Sheriff's Office (HCSO), dating back all the way to the year 1845, right at the time when the agency
was initially being formed. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies
(CALEA) made all of the necessary requirements and pulled some strings to officially authorize the
Sheriff's Office of Hillsborough County ("Hillsborough county sheriff's office (Florida)," 2008).
This not only made HCSO the first sheriff's office in the state of Florida to be nationally accredited,
but also the first in the United States to become nationally re–accredited ("Hillsborough county

Coroner Research Paper
I chose this career to be a coroner because I was somehow always just interested in it. I usually will
be watching detective shows such as bones, or a lot of movies based on missing bodies etc. It's a job
of hard work and mystery that involves a lot of dedication and time. Coroners have an important
role in society because they are the ones who find out the information about the deceased bodies for
the detectives/investigators to solve the crime. They do autopsies to find and record any evidence of
how the deceased died or whom may have murdered them. This has the big purpose to help families
and friends know what exactly happened, so they know how to take control and aren't left
wondering. My father's friend knows the Coroner in our area ... Show more content on

Coronial Process: The Coroner's Decision Making
Deaths are emotional, physically, and mentally tiring. No one likes to get the text or call that a loved
one or dear friend has passed unexpectedly. One of the most difficult steps is making the funeral
arrangements, and that can be emotionally draining if a living will has not been written up. A big
part in deciding about the funeral arrangements is getting the death certificate complete and the
main objective, the person itself returned. All emotions are running together and you're thinking
why can't this be over and let them be in peace? Well, the big remainder is the Coroner's decision.
Any unexpected or suspicious deaths are required by law to be handed over to the Coroners Court of

Australians are firm believes in justice and rights of the deceased. The Coroner may have a jury, but
not like a regular jury. The jury I am used to does not speak nor ask questions. That job is for the
District Attorney and Defense Attorney. In Australia, the Coroner's jury may ask questions if there
are any senses of confusion or doubt. All questions asked by the Coroner or jury have to be relevant
to death or human. No accusations are acceptable. According to Richard Griffith (2011), "At the
inquest, the family of the deceased will sit in the front row and visitors at the back (p.468)." The
courtroom is open ears and nonjudgmental eyes. If the Coroner has reason to believe a federal or
state offense has been broken, they have all rights to turn it over to the fitting legal authority
(Mackay, 2015, p.4). If there is any objection to a Coroner's final ruling, you may appeal it up to 3
months after (Cave, 2012, p.494). Do you think appealing a decision will be an easy

Reflection Of Leadership And Leadership : My Approach To...
My approach to supervision is to lead by example and always with integrity first. I will constantly
lead with the best interest of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office in mind. I would never want to
bring discredit upon our agency, so I will stress to my subordinates the importance of doing the right
thing at all times. Leaders must be trustworthy and they must have values they adhere to. I intend to
demonstrate through my actions to the people I will supervise, the strong values and ethics I have
lived by my entire life. I will show my team of subordinates that I am willing to do the same I ask of
them.
Some of the leadership skills that are most important to me and what have helped me lead
throughout various areas of my life are, caring and investing in the people I supervise. I'm always
approachable and I take the time to get to know the people around me, their strengths, their
weaknesses and their attitudes. If you know your team as a leader, you will have the ability to
motivate, challenge and stimulate your staff, which I believe makes for a more functional
environment and helps build morale within the workplace.
Another one of my strongpoints that I believe is crucial to being an effective leader is the ability to
communicate. You have to be able to give clear, concise orders to your team. They must know what
is expected of them. Open and honest communication is essential to team success. As a leader, you
have to be willing to encourage feedback, listen to the suggestions of your subordinates, but at the
same time be prepared to give orders and not ask for input because we may be dealing with a critical
situation. I understand that aspect and responsibility as a Sheriff's Sergeant, and I am fully prepared
for it.
Lastly, a leader must be able to make sound and timely decisions, and stand by his/her decisions
with conviction. I possess the ability to rapidly estimate a situation and make a sound decision when
called upon. As a Sheriff's Sergeant, I know I will be faced with many critical decisions that will not
only have an effect on myself or my team, but the organization as a whole. Any hesitation on the
part of these decisions I will be faced with, can cause my subordinates to lose

Regardless of the fact that the individual or their families do not feel that they require the help they

Our first and main goal is to determine the mode of death (Ebert, N.d, 1987). Keep in mind that the
mode of death and the mean of death are two separate things (Ebert, N.d, 1987). When we want to
know the mean of death, we are trying to find out how someone died (Ebert, N.d, 1987). When we
look at the mode of death, we look at if the death was caused by an accident, natural causes, a
homicide, or suicide (Ebert, N.d, 1987). The next goal is to find out why the death occurred at a
certain time and date (Ebert, N.d, 1987). The death could have occurred because of the victim being
in the wrong place at the wrong time, anniversary of a loved one, or because of a grudge against the
victim (Ebert, N.d, 1987). Next, we look at the motivation for the death (Ebert, N.d, 1987). The
motivation for death includes intentional, sub–intentional, and unintentional (Ebert, N.d, 1987). The
fourth and last purpose is to bring peace to the survivor's family (Ebert, N.d, 1987). The autopsy can
help bring closure to the family and help answer questions (Ebert, N.d,

Susan Glaspell's Trifles
In the play "Trifles" by Susan Glaspell was a very interesting and suspenseful play. This play is
about a women being accused of killing her husband. The play takes place around the 1916 were
they try to find out who killed Mrs. Wright husband John Wright. Hale, starts telling what happen
that day when he went to the Wrights home. That afternoon Hale was going to ask John if he wanted
to go put up a telephone. When Hale starts to explain the situation to the sheriff and the county
general in full detail what happened the suspense starts to arise. Hale starts to explain how he saw
Mrs. Wright that day she was acting strange just rocking on her rocking chair with a blank response.

In the play the birdcage symbolizes Mrs. Wright trap in her marriage that she simply could not run
away from. In the story the two women Mrs. Peter and Mrs. Hale see that the bird cage door is
broken. For example Mrs. Peter says "Why, look at this door. It's broke. One hinge is pulled apart."
(1.3 lines 94–95) The door of the cage symbolizes the broken marriage she had with her husband.
The cage at one pint had a lock to keep the bird inside this showed how Mr. Wright would keep Mrs.
Wright away from the world around her. For example in the story Mrs. Hale says Not having
children makes less work– but it makes a quiet house, and Wright out of work all day, and no
company when he did come in/(1.3 Lines 2–3). The narrator wants the audience to understand how
Mrs. Wright was isolated from the society. Mr. Wright had Mrs. Wright locked up so she would
never socialize or tell anyone how Mr. Wright really was this cruel awful man to his wife. This
symbols allow the audience to know how shady and gloomy the setting was for Mrs. Wright. In the
1916 women had very few rights, and back then women could not divorce so that's why Mrs. Wright
deiced to kill her husband. In addition Glaspell's was living in the difficulties herself as a women not
having rights for women. For example thus positioned, her writing acts as palimpsest for shifting
roles of women in the early twentieth century and for her

Controversy arose in the when a pair of experts, together with Melinek and Dr. Michael Graham,
told reporters that Brown's wounds were in line with Wilson's rationalization of events, but Melinek
later told reporters that her words had been to a certain extent been misconstrued. She said that she
had judged the forensic proof in the official autopsy report and the officers' statements were totally
consistent. Given that the report showed the wound to Brown's right arm was close by and in line to
the barrel of the officer's gun when it discharged, it may mean he had was reaching for the gun.
To make herself clearer, she said that the teen reaching out for the gun is not the only explanation for
the officer to shot. It is the officer who said that he was going for the gun and the right arm wound
supports that. She admitted to having limited information on that report and confirmed it may also
be consistent with other circumstances. This shows that for justice to be serviced the witnesses
needs to talk to the grand jury while the jury listens to all the unprejudiced testimony and contrast
those statements to the physical evidence.
The autopsy found the fatal shots came from a downward action into the top of the teens head. All
except one of the gunshots, seemed to have struck him in the front of his body, consistent to what
the witnesses said, and he had been facing the

Summary Of ' Sheriff Bud Wendell Drove Patiently Down...
Sheriff Bud Wendell drove patiently down route 41. He wasn't necessarily needed anywhere and this
was perhaps the first moment he could relax after a rather contentious campaign battle against his
challenger and former undersheriff, Carl Stringham. Politics in the South could get down–right
nasty at times, but Sheriff Wendell took small solace in the fact that it wasn't he who spread the
rumors of Stringham's clandestine romances with men from a neighboring town.
Sure, Sheriff Wendell knew that Stringham was a homosexual. Stringham had worked as his deputy
for twelve years and what man wouldn't be aware of such preferences after being in the company of
another antithetically oriented man for so long. It never made a difference to him, though. Bud knew
Carl was a strong man and would have made an honest sheriff, but politics in the south was never
about a man's merits or soul. More often than not, a lever was cast for the man who reminded people
of themselves, at least their public selves. All it took in this case was one whisper from Julie Hollis
to Deanne White at the beauty salon back in October and the race for county sheriff was over.
Surely, her husband, Deputy John Hollis had nothing to do with it.
While he found Stringham's gossip piece to be an unfortunate setback in the merits of the sheriff's
race, Bud Wendell knew Carl was a good man but knew himself to be the better man. If you asked
them in private, most of the county would probably agree. With his

proof that Mayella Ewell is a victim of rape, and child abuse, by her own father. Today I argue that
Mayella Ewell is a victim, a girl living a life of hardship, who was abused and raped by her father,
Bob Ewell. Firstly, Mayella Ewell lived a life with limited social interaction and no friends. During

Someone with no friends and such a small amount of social interaction must be desperate for

an' she might as well kiss a nigger." (220–221) During Tom's account of the case, he clearly shows
how a child longing for social interaction, and sexual intimacy took it all out on him. Mayella Ewell

The Medical Examiner System Should Replace the Traditional...
Death is an elementary word harboring many meanings. It is the feeling of being caught in the grip
of inevitably. It is a personal realization that you too are mortal. It is the recognition that one's life is
changed forever. The shiny image of a once bright world full of promise dulls. Unfortunately, every
individual will experience the death of a loved one at least once in their life. No words can soothe
the agony of losing a loved one. State legislatures are familiar with this grief and have created either

This method may have been sufficient in the 10th century when people were illiterate and believed
the world was flat; however, the scientific world since then has grown exponentially. Science is a
powerful study, aiding us in understanding the complex process life and the absence of life, death.
Pathology, the science of disease, has assisted in the arrests of countless criminals, uncovering the
truth and more notably providing a sense of closure for the loved ones of the deceased. A coroner
system without the foundation of science is a system that keeps murders on the streets, the innocent
behinds bars and prosecutors frozen in cases. The most memorable example of inefficiency is Dr.
Paul McGarry, who made careless errors in not just one but four autopsies. In the case of new prison
inmate Cayne Miceli, McGarry initially determined the cause of death to be a drug overdose. Upon
the further examination, a second examiner found a heap of mucus in her lungs indicating she had
severe asthma. The doctor then concluded the real cause of death was the jail restraints on her chest
blocked her airways during an asthma attack (Thompson, 2011, para 13–16). A peculiar fact about
the case was the McGarry concluded the cause of death before he got the test results. Could he had

Was Raleigh Tate Justified In The Trial
Sheriff Tate accidentally stole Arthur's right to be legally protected. Sheriff Tate might not have been
the best sheriff for Maycomb. He lies, tampers with evidence, and bends the law. He also lets his
emotions control his actions and doesn't think things thoroughly. The death of Bob Ewell was
justified because he has done some horrible things.
Sheriff Tate might have some of the traits and qualities of a good sheriff. However, would a good
sheriff lie, bend the law, or tamper with evidence. When Mayella claimed she was sexually abused
Sheriff Tate didn't take her to see a doctor. He claimed "No sir–" when Atticus asked "But you didn't
call a doctor? While you were there did anyone send for one, fetch one, carry her to one?"(224).
Mayella could've been hurt and they could've had more evidence, but instead he decided not to get
her a doctor. Sheriff Tate also tampered with evidence when Bob Ewell was killed. He switched the
knives around and took the one that killed Bob Ewell. Then he insisted "Bob Ewell fell on his ...

Sheriff Tate and Bob Ewell most likely served together in the war. He ended up putting his feelings

The Poisoner's Handbook By Deborah Blums Best Selling Book
The film that I am reviewing, title "The Poisoner's Handbook," is based on Deborah Blums best–
selling book, of the same title, which reflects on the most notorious cases between the years of 1918
and 1959 that were handled by Charles Norris, the chief medical examiner for New York City, also
known and described by his peers as "the father of forensic toxicology in America," and Alexander
Oscar Gettler, toxicologist with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York, such
as the fatal radium poisoning of the factory workers who contracted radiation poisoning from
painting watch dials with self–luminous paint at the Orange, New Jersey watch factory around the
year 1917 and other cases that involve dangerous poisons, like arsenic, methanol, lead, carbon
monoxide, denatured alcohol, radium and thallium. Their renowned work led to tougher regulations
by the government and the creation of the Food and Drug Administration. The film depicts how the
average American's medicine cabinet, in the early 1900s, was a treasure chest of dangerous poisons
that could make you ill, put you in a coma, and even kill you. These poisons were readily found in
health tonics, depilatory creams, teething medicine, and cleaning supplies.
In the early 1920s, medical examiners and coroners were appointed by the mayor and were
responsible for investigating every suspicious death in New York City. The position was a political

County Sheriff Research Paper
The most important local county office to me is the Sheriff. When most people think of our county
Sheriff they think of their job as writing tickets and arresting criminals; although these things are
part of their job these things are just a piece of the responsibility that Sheriffs all over the country
carry. When most people hear the word Sheriff they think something negatively. These people don't
realize everything a Sheriff does to keep us and our county safe. The Sheriff is the highest Law
Enforcement Officer in the county with authority over deputies, bailiffs, and constables. Sheriffs are
elected by the citizens of the county and are paid by the county. Sheriffs have a very important job
and they also take on many responsibilities when they are sworn in. Sheriffs have continued to

At the age of fifteen, my mother had just finished cooking dinner when I noticed her slurred speech
and incoherent sentences. Flustered by the sequence of events, I dialed 911 for help. On the way to
the hospital, I recall one of the EMS personnel shakily exclaim: " her blood glucose is 899, she
needs insulin ASAP." Having no understanding of what any of this meant my anxiety multiplied and
I was eager to understand why these abnormalities were occurring. At the hospital, the doctor
addressed my mother with a sympathetic and yet assuring tone and stated: "Latrice, you have type 2
diabetes." He went on to explain how her body was not utilizing insulin and as a result had high
levels of blood glucose. Although the prescribed medication resulted in dramatic improvements in
my mother's condition, the confusion remained. I had no understanding of her condition or how
medication alone helped to assuage her symptoms. The unanswered questions learned from this
shocking experience precipitated a drive to learn more about the human body and health prevention.
To learn more about the human body and the devastating effects of disease, I began to shadow Dr.
Murthy, a forensic pathologist at the Stark County Coroner's office. Dr. Murthy placed high value in
effective communication to ensure that the patient's family was completely informed of the
diagnosis of their loved ones. During the autopsies, he was thorough, detailed and highly critical of

The most common use of forensic science is to investigate criminal cases involving a victim, such as
assault, robbery, kidnapping , rape, or murder.
Forensic science is also used in monitoring the compliance of various countries with such
international agreements as the Nuclear Non–Proliferation

Pathology is the branch of forensic science that determines the nature and course of diseases by
analyzing body fluids and tissues. Pathology is divided into clinical and anatomic pathology.
Clinical pathologists contribute to the diagnosis of diseases by measuring chemicals and cells in
blood, sputum, bone marrow and urine. Anatomic pathologists perform autopsies and analyze
tissues taken from patients during surgery or by biopsy.
The medical examiner investigates many different types of violent crime to determine whether a
violent death was an accident, a suicide, or a homicide. In cases involving gunshot wounds, the
medical examiner looks for gunpowder residues on the clothing of the victim and around wounds.
The information is used to determine whether the gun was fired by the victim of by someone else.
In the case of knife wounds, the medical examiner must distinguish between a cut (an injury that is
longer than deep) and a stab wound (an injury that is deeper than long). He must also be able to
identify a defense wound which is a cut caused when a victim grabs the knife in self–defense. Cuts
are associated with suicide. The body of the victim usually has numerous parallel cuts which
indicate hesitant wounds or repeated hesitant trials before the final cut is made. Homicides typically
consist of one deep gash.

Medical Examiner and a Coroner Medical examiners and coroners have a common thing. They all
interact with the dead. They are involved in confirming deaths and finding out the cause. They carry
out investigations on unnatural or suspected deaths to determine their causes. The exercise was

Recount of a Mock Trial
The central issue in the mock trial was whether the payment of life insurance from Prime Global

Temple purchased a life insurance plan from Prime Global Insurance on March 16th, 2011. Prime
Global Insurance's policy is illustrated clearly in their terms and conditions that the one–million

not have occurred by suicide within two years of enacting the contract. My contribution to jury
deliberations were to synthesize the evidence to most accurately depict the events that passed, and to
come to a conclusion whether Mr. Temple died by suicide or accidental death, and if his death
occurred before the two–year time period as outlined in the insurance company's policy. The
prosecution and defense painted a story for the jury and called on witnesses including Ms. Temple

transcript of a sworn testimony by the medical examiner of Mr. Temple, a detective who arrived at
the scene, the limo driver who was driving Mr. Temple from that night's Veteran Ball, and an

Transformational Leadership In The Forgotten
Transformational leadership is an individual with the ability to change an organizational culture by
creating a new vision for the organization and obtaining the support necessary for the change of the
organization (Shafritz et al, 2012, p 368). In the novel The Forgotten by David Baldacci, the role of
both David Puller and General Julie Carson were examples of exceptional leadership as well as team
players. In the novel The Forgotten, it has not been established that either party would not be able to
change a culture or create a new vision, but that was not their goal in the story. Transformational

My Most Memorable Literary Experience
My most memorable literary experience isn't really one singular event, rather the reigniting of
interest in sitting still and reading a book. Growing up, in elementary and middle school, I loved to
read. I don't know if being an only child and an introvert fed that interest or birthed it, but it was
deeply rooted. Despite that, starting my senior year in high school and following into my early 20s
that interest waned. Or rather was upstaged by other blossoming interests in my boyfriend, working
full time, making big girl money and the independence that brought. And soon enough bars too. You
can't read a book in a bar.
Starting in the seventh grade I read the whole Scarpetta series by crime novelist Patricia Cornwell.
Kay Scarpetta was a forensic medical examiner whose boyfriend was a FBI profiler and regularly
became involved in serial murder cases. I ate that up. Maybe a bit creepy for a twelve year old to
carry around books called The Body Farm, Postmortem, Cruel & Unusual, etc., but I wouldn't put
them down. Which thinking about it now, is strange because I was a scaredy cat as a kid. I never
watched horror movies. But I could read about them. The thing that really grabbed me was the
medical aspect, the descriptions of anatomy and what happened to the human body when it
encountered a depraved individual. Also, the detailed accounts of how to perform an autopsy. That's
when the seed of a healthcare career was planted. I remember telling one of my teachers I wanted to

Summary Of 'A Northbound Path' By Manny Fernandezs
In Manny Fernandez's article "A Northbound Path, Marked by More and More Bodies" he makes
the argument that migrants trying to cross the border and dying on their way over is a humanitarian
crisis. He mentions that the people who died are given case numbers and not a name and that this is
unfair. Fernandez's argument is good, but it is also a little bit indifferent. His argument is strong
because he offers a lot of evidence that is very descriptive and credible and some of his evidence is
something that the reader can relate to. Having accurate evidence from a credible source is very
important to an author's argument because it gives the argument support and reliability. If that

Being promoted to the Bureau Chief is a big deal and proves that Fernandez has been a reliable
worker and reporter and is outstanding at what he does. Fernandez's argument has a lot of strong
evidence. For example, he shares stories about different "cases numbers" and the belongings that
these people had with them. These stories are reliable because they come from the Brooks County
Sherriff's Department in Texas. The Sherriff's Department is a reliable, legitimate source. We know
that the stories are true because Fernandez gives real case numbers that came from this Sherriff's
Department. This evidence is extremely effective because it is true stories that the reader can picture
in their minds. Since these are real people that Fernandez is talking about, the reader gets the chance

even one's own death. While it is not the most pleasant subject, death is something that needs to be
addressed to prepare those who will have to manage it when the time comes. Depending on the
situation at hand, certain circumstances of demise may not be completely understood, and in these
cases, autopsies can provide families with closure by giving them answers needed to clarify any
questions that may have come along with the loss of their loved one ("American Autopsy Services",
np). With new advances in technology and new medical diagnostic systems, ... Show more content

Having an answer regarding a loved one's death in cases of uncertainty is psychologically beneficial
to the family members, especially if they are concerned that the death had occurred because of
something they did. If there were any genetic disorders that led to the death, those can be clarified
and relayed to the family as well. Clinicians and hospitals benefit from autopsies because they
provide reassurance of the diagnoses, treatments and the appropriateness of the medical care
received. Society experiences the benefits of autopsies through the evaluation of diagnostic tests,
drugs, and diagnostic techniques along with advanced medical knowledge of new diseases as well as
environmental, occupational, and existing diseases. Mortality statistics are only able to be verified
from autopsy data because so often statistics are inaccurate with the lack of an autopsy (Stöppler,

  • 3. The Relevance Today of A Jury of Her Peers Essay In "A Jury of Her Peers," Susan Glaspell illustrates many social standards women experienced at the turn of the century. She allows the reader to see how a woman's life was completely ruled by social laws, and thus by her husband. Glaspell also reveals the ignorance of the men in the story, in particular the sheriff and the county attorney. I think some examples are rather extreme, but in Glaspell's day, they would have probably been common. Women did not have many rights at the turn of the century. What few rights and freedoms they did have were dominated by social standards. They were expected to cater to their husbands' wishes and commands. I think their society oppressed them more often than their own husbands did. A good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The women seem to understand the hardships the men face, but feel that their own jobs are more difficult. At that time, men, working outdoors, had set hours, whereas the women worked almost all of the time they were awake. The sheriff is particularly critical of Mrs. Wright. He does not consider her work to be of any worth. He dismisses her concerns about her preserves as pointless, not taking into consideration her time and effort put into them (Glaspell 264). He laughs about her wanting an apron while in jail when she most likely wore an apron daily at home. The county attorney creates a mess of pans under the sink by kicking them without any regard (Glaspell 264). I wonder if he would appreciate someone entering his office with such little respect for his things? The deputy dirties the hand towel, which leads to the county attorney complaining about Mrs. Wright's house keeping (Glaspell 264). None of the men appreciate Mrs. Wright's efforts. They are oblivious to her daily life whereas Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters realize what she had been put through. Only when I realized this did I fully understand the title, "A Jury of Her Peers." By protecting Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters are truly a jury of her peers. The county attorney, the sheriff, and his deputies in "A Jury of Her Peers" all convey a n impression of ignorance and poor investigation to the reader. Sheriff Peters seems to be in complete control over the investigation. He refuses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) The core law enforcement agency for the county of Hillsborough, is the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO), dating back all the way to the year 1845, right at the time when the agency was initially being formed. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) made all of the necessary requirements and pulled some strings to officially authorize the Sheriff's Office of Hillsborough County ("Hillsborough county sheriff's office (Florida)," 2008). • 11. Coroner Research Paper I chose this career to be a coroner because I was somehow always just interested in it. I usually will be watching detective shows such as bones, or a lot of movies based on missing bodies etc. It's a job of hard work and mystery that involves a lot of dedication and time. Coroners have an important role in society because they are the ones who find out the information about the deceased bodies for the detectives/investigators to solve the crime. They do autopsies to find and record any evidence of how the deceased died or whom may have murdered them. This has the big purpose to help families and friends know what exactly happened, so they know how to take control and aren't left wondering. My father's friend knows the Coroner in our area ... A big part in deciding about the funeral arrangements is getting the death certificate complete and the main objective, the person itself returned. All emotions are running together and you're thinking why can't this be over and let them be in peace? Well, the big remainder is the Coroner's decision. • 15. Reflection Of Leadership And Leadership : My Approach To... My approach to supervision is to lead by example and always with integrity first. I will constantly lead with the best interest of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office in mind. I would never want to bring discredit upon our agency, so I will stress to my subordinates the importance of doing the right thing at all times. Leaders must be trustworthy and they must have values they adhere to. I intend to demonstrate through my actions to the people I will supervise, the strong values and ethics I have lived by my entire life. I will show my team of subordinates that I am willing to do the same I ask of them. Some of the leadership skills that are most important to me and what have helped me lead throughout various areas of my life are, caring and investing in the people I supervise. I'm always approachable and I take the time to get to know the people around me, their strengths, their weaknesses and their attitudes. If you know your team as a leader, you will have the ability to motivate, challenge and stimulate your staff, which I believe makes for a more functional environment and helps build morale within the workplace. Another one of my strongpoints that I believe is crucial to being an effective leader is the ability to communicate. You have to be able to give clear, concise orders to your team. They must know what is expected of them. Open and honest communication is essential to team success. As a leader, you have to be willing to encourage feedback, listen to the suggestions of your subordinates, but at the same time be prepared to give orders and not ask for input because we may be dealing with a critical situation. I understand that aspect and responsibility as a Sheriff's Sergeant, and I am fully prepared for it. Lastly, a leader must be able to make sound and timely decisions, and stand by his/her decisions with conviction. I possess the ability to rapidly estimate a situation and make a sound decision when called upon. As a Sheriff's Sergeant, I know I will be faced with many critical decisions that will not only have an effect on myself or my team, but the organization as a whole. Any hesitation on the part of these decisions I will be faced with, can cause my subordinates to lose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She said that she had judged the forensic proof in the official autopsy report and the officers' statements were totally consistent. Given that the report showed the wound to Brown's right arm was close by and in line to the barrel of the officer's gun when it discharged, it may mean he had was reaching for the gun. To make herself clearer, she said that the teen reaching out for the gun is not the only explanation for the officer to shot. He wasn't necessarily needed anywhere and this was perhaps the first moment he could relax after a rather contentious campaign battle against his challenger and former undersheriff, Carl Stringham. Politics in the South could get down–right nasty at times, but Sheriff Wendell took small solace in the fact that it wasn't he who spread the rumors of Stringham's clandestine romances with men from a neighboring town. Sure, Sheriff Wendell knew that Stringham was a homosexual. Stringham had worked as his deputy for twelve years and what man wouldn't be aware of such preferences after being in the company of another antithetically oriented man for so long. It never made a difference to him, though. Bud knew Carl was a strong man and would have made an honest sheriff, but politics in the south was never about a man's merits or soul. More often than not, a lever was cast for the man who reminded people of themselves, at least their public selves. All it took in this case was one whisper from Julie Hollis to Deanne White at the beauty salon back in October and the race for county sheriff was over. Surely, her husband, Deputy John Hollis had nothing to do with it. While he found Stringham's gossip piece to be an unfortunate setback in the merits of the sheriff's race, Bud Wendell knew Carl was a good man but knew himself to be the better man. You will find that in the following paragraphs that there will be a profusion of proof that Mayella Ewell is a victim of rape, and child abuse, by her own father. Today I argue that Mayella Ewell is a victim, a girl living a life of hardship, who was abused and raped by her father, Bob Ewell. Firstly, Mayella Ewell lived a life with limited social interaction and no friends. During Atticus' questioning, He asked, "'A nineteen–year–old girl must have friends, who are your friends?' In the case of new prison inmate Cayne Miceli, McGarry initially determined the cause of death to be a drug overdose. Upon the further examination, a second examiner found a heap of mucus in her lungs indicating she had severe asthma. To learn more about the human body and the devastating effects of disease, I began to shadow Dr. Murthy, a forensic pathologist at the Stark County Coroner's office. Dr. Murthy placed high value in effective communication to ensure that the patient's family was completely informed of the diagnosis of their loved ones. Anatomic pathologists perform autopsies and analyze tissues taken from patients during surgery or by biopsy. The medical examiner investigates many different types of violent crime to determine whether a violent death was an accident, a suicide, or a homicide. In cases involving gunshot wounds, the medical examiner looks for gunpowder residues on the clothing of the victim and around wounds. The information is used to determine whether the gun was fired by the victim of by someone else. In the case of knife wounds, the medical examiner must distinguish between a cut (an injury that is longer than deep) and a stab wound (an injury that is deeper than long). He must also be able to identify a defense wound which is a cut caused when a victim grabs the knife in self–defense. Cuts are associated with suicide. The body of the victim usually has numerous parallel cuts which indicate hesitant wounds or repeated hesitant trials before the final cut is made. • 55. Office Of Sheriff Essay I am excited to talk about my unique qualifications for the Office of Sheriff. I bring over 30+ years of law enforcement experience, as do several of the other candidates. However, unlike the other candidates, I have and am actively involved with the sheriff's office and the community since I began serving with the Elbert County Sheriff's Office(ECSO). From the beginning, I have made a strong effort to meet members of the community in order to understand both their needs and concerns. It has been my goal to routinely meet with several local business leaders in order to assess those needs and how best to serve the citizens and kids of our community. It is with great pride that I mention that by developing a strong trust and working relationship with local businesses I was successful in purchasing a Sidne® vehicle. • 57. Coroner Research Paper Medical Examiner and a Coroner Medical examiners and coroners have a common thing. They all interact with the dead. They are involved in confirming deaths and finding out the cause. They carry out investigations on unnatural or suspected deaths to determine their causes. The exercise was borrowed from England. The coroners were known as crowners, and their main job involved working around Kings (Cheung, Merry & Sundram, 2015). They investigated deaths, frauds, and theft. Recount of a Mock Trial The central issue in the mock trial was whether the payment of life insurance from Prime Global Insurance group to Raven Temple, the wife of the late Aubrey Temple, was warranted. Aubrey Temple purchased a life insurance plan from Prime Global Insurance on March 16th, 2011. Prime Global Insurance's policy is illustrated clearly in their terms and conditions that the one–million dollar payout to the policy holder's beneficiary on the condition that the death of the individual must not have occurred by suicide within two years of enacting the contract. My contribution to jury deliberations were to synthesize the evidence to most accurately depict the events that passed, and to come to a conclusion whether Mr. Temple died by suicide or accidental death, and if his death occurred before the two–year time period as outlined in the insurance company's policy. The prosecution and defense painted a story for the jury and called on witnesses including Ms. Temple ¬– the wife of the late Mr. Temple, Mr. Usher – former business partner of Mr. Temple, the transcript of a sworn testimony by the medical examiner of Mr. Temple, a detective who arrived at the scene, the limo driver who was driving Mr. Temple from that night's Veteran Ball, and an individual who was driving behind the limo before Mr. Temple was ejected out of the vehicle. • 65. My Most Memorable Literary Experience My most memorable literary experience isn't really one singular event, rather the reigniting of interest in sitting still and reading a book. Growing up, in elementary and middle school, I loved to read. I don't know if being an only child and an introvert fed that interest or birthed it, but it was deeply rooted. Despite that, starting my senior year in high school and following into my early 20s that interest waned. Or rather was upstaged by other blossoming interests in my boyfriend, working full time, making big girl money and the independence that brought. And soon enough bars too. You can't read a book in a bar. Starting in the seventh grade I read the whole Scarpetta series by crime novelist Patricia Cornwell. Kay Scarpetta was a forensic medical examiner whose boyfriend was a FBI profiler and regularly became involved in serial murder cases. I ate that up. Maybe a bit creepy for a twelve year old to carry around books called The Body Farm, Postmortem, Cruel & Unusual, etc., but I wouldn't put them down. Which thinking about it now, is strange because I was a scaredy cat as a kid. I never watched horror movies. But I could read about them. The thing that really grabbed me was the medical aspect, the descriptions of anatomy and what happened to the human body when it encountered a depraved individual. Also, the detailed accounts of how to perform an autopsy. That's when the seed of a healthcare career was planted. I remember telling one of my teachers I wanted to be ... • 71. Summary Of 'A Northbound Path' By Manny Fernandezs In Manny Fernandez's article "A Northbound Path, Marked by More and More Bodies" he makes the argument that migrants trying to cross the border and dying on their way over is a humanitarian crisis. He mentions that the people who died are given case numbers and not a name and that this is unfair. Fernandez's argument is good, but it is also a little bit indifferent. His argument is strong because he offers a lot of evidence that is very descriptive and credible and some of his evidence is something that the reader can relate to. Having accurate evidence from a credible source is very important to an author's argument because it gives the argument support and reliability. If that evidence comes with a story that the reader can relate to it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fernandez's argument has a lot of strong evidence. For example, he shares stories about different "cases numbers" and the belongings that these people had with them. These stories are reliable because they come from the Brooks County Sherriff's Department in Texas. The Sherriff's Department is a reliable, legitimate source. We know that the stories are true because Fernandez gives real case numbers that came from this Sherriff's Department. This evidence is extremely effective because it is true stories that the reader can picture in their minds. Since these are real people that Fernandez is talking about, the reader gets the chance to empathize with them. "In just one county, the bodies and remains of more than 500 migrants have been found since 2009," Fernandez says in his article.
