Chris Squire Essay
Chris Squire, co–founder and bassist of the rock band 'Yes', died at the age of 67 after battling
Leukemia, People magazine reported.
Squire's death was first confirmed after the band posted on their official Facebook page that Squire
has "peacefully passed away" at his home in Phoenix on Saturday, June 27.
Earlier in May, Squire broke out the news to the public that he had been suffering from acute
erythroid leukemia, a very rare form of myeloid leukemia. He also went through frequent treatments
before he passed away.
Though no further details about his death were provided, the remains of the band announced the sad

"For the entirety of 'Yes' existence, Chris was the band's linchpin and, in so many ways, the glue that

The talented bass guitarist was also one of the leaders of the progressive rock back in the 1970s. He
was also a choir member during his youth, which built a strong foundation of his skills as a
musician.
Squire had launched his 1975 solo album "Fish Out Of Water" and had also played in the short–
lived group XYZ (eX–Yes–Zeppelin).
The Grammy–award winning band has had hits, which scored no. 1 on the Billboard pop charts in
the 1980s, including the "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and the "Roundabout".
'Yes' will be having its U.S tour with Toto this coming August and Billy Sherwood will temporarily

Modern 4–string, fretted, horizontally played electric bass was first introduced by Paul Tutmarc in
the 1930s. Later in 1950s Leo Fender developed this idea so it could be mass–produced and finally

Let's talk about a few tricks that have been used on some famous recordings but still seem to be a bit
of a mystery to plenty of audio engineers. Just like with compression, you have to be able to handle
the concept of subtlety in order to use these tricks without it turning into an overdone disco. Blend
these tricked up sounds into your bass mix quiet enough to where no one could pick out what you
are doing but loud enough to where they add something to the bass guitar.

If a bass guitar does not seem to be cutting through a mix, try creating a duplicate track and run the

bit.
Don't fool yourself
I will leave just a few words about your monitoring setup and then leave the rest of that subject for
an article dedicated to good studio monitoring. The point here is that you are not going to be able to
record, judge, or mix bass parts unless you can hear them in your studio. It sounds simplistic but; if
you can't hear it, you can't use it properly.
Turn it down
I know. Those three words really bring me down too. Aren't we supposed to be defiantly cranking it
loud and proud regardless of what the neighbors think? In this case, the answer is no. If you are
listening to your bass tracks at ear splitting levels, you are artificially making it appear as though
your bass tracks have range and backbone.
Monitor your tracks at a moderate level. If you can create a sound that is full and punchy at these
low levels, they are going to sound amazing when you crank it to ear–shattering, cop–calling ultra–
mode.
Balance your subwoofer
If you are using a subwoofer as part of your studio monitoring scheme. Ask yourself if you are using
it to extend the true range of your monitoring abilities or to disproportionately jack up the bass you
hear so it sounds nice in the studio. Trust me, you want the first choice. Use a variable sine wave
generator (available on most DAWs nowadays) and sweep it through the

The Sound Of Upright String Bass Performance
Upright string bass performance is an ever–changing profession that has played a vital role to the
history of the jazz ensemble. The bass has evolved more through jazz in the past one hundred years
than since the instrument's conception in the 15th century. In early jazz bands, the bass had a simple
and extremely conscientious style, which limited itself to furnishing fundamental harmonic tones.
One of the greatest bass players in this style is Pops Foster, known for the extraordinary power and
attack of his playing. Later on in the mid–20th century, bassists like Jimmy Blanton and Oscar
Pettiford pushed the string bass into a new light where the instrument's unsuspected potential as a
solo instrument would be realized. The bass also underwent a radical change from entirely acoustic
to entirely electric which has changed modern music forever. Electric bassists like Stanley Clarke
and Jaco Pastorius could now play many notes at once and utilize the fusion aspect of the music and
the instrument. The role of the bass in jazz has been constantly undervalued and misunderstood.
People often view the bass as a cumbersome instrument, or as expendable. The jazz ensemble
without a bass is like a house without its foundation, unable to stand up without the structure it
provides. Because the essential element in improvised jazz is the harmonic structure of the song, it is
up to the bass to guide other instrumentalists through difficult chord changes and somehow string all

Born on August 3, 1963, in Downey, California, to a truck driver and light opera singer(1), both

Mark Wade is a proficient double bassist and composer who has been playing in NYC for two
decades, showing off his fluid, athletic sound. The follow–up to his widely recognized debut album,
Event Horizon, is entitled Moving Day and like its previous, features a classic trio with Tim
Harrison and Scott Neumann on piano and drums, respectively. Together, they achieve an
impressive triangular tightness that can be heard without delay on the first track, the 6/4 post–bop
wonder that gave the album its title. It kicks off with the pianist delivering an ostinato, which,
minutes later, is reutilized by the bassist to install the groove. The bandleader embarks on an
effusive back–and–forth solo, discharging equal parts of melody and rhythm, and the energy doesn't

I thought of it as a crossing between Stevie Wonder and Chick Corea. Borrowing melody from
Debussy's "La Mer", "The Bells" is an imaginative waltz encompassing glorious suspensions and a

One thing I noticed off the bat was that he held his bow the German way. Whereas the other two
artists had music, Volkan memorized his. His eyes were closed for some parts and he would sway
while playing. His sound was very rich, much like a singer's voice. He stayed relatively still

"Brazilian Voyage". The performance was held at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, located in the Jazz
Lincoln Center, in New York City. Nilson Matta is a Brazilian bassist, composer, and producer.
Matta is considered to be one of the greatest bass musicians in the world, and has earned great
reputation for his unique sounds (Nilson). The staff members were very welcoming, and were all
dressed in black attire. The venue had dim lighting, and each table had a lighted candle; which
created a nice romantic and intimate atmosphere. Behind the stage, there is a spectacular scene that
overlooks Central Park, and the city. At the beginning of the performance, Nilson Matta, and three
other musicians walked up on stage, and introduced themselves. The musicians were, Mauricio
Zottarelli (drummist), Craig Handy (saxophonist/flautist), Helen Sung (pianist), and of course
Nilson Matta (bassist). Matta commenced the performance with a piece called "Para Ti" (For You),
which he dedicated to Rio de Jainero. Matta began to play the double–bass instrument. Although, it
was huge in size, the timbre was dull. Following this, the rest of the musicians played along,

Music is the reason I wake up each morning; it is the reason I go to school each day; it is what I
spend all of my free time doing. Since my seventh grade, music has been my passion. My parents
introduced me to the joy of music at a very young age, so music has always offered me the same
everyday comforts as Blue Box mac and cheese. I have been exposed to many genres of music from
Classical, to Pop, to Jazz, and many others.
While in elementary school, I joined the fourth–grade orchestra and selected the double bass as my
instrument. Just one look at this enormous instrument and I was intrigued. Just one listen to the
heavy resonant sound and I was hooked. I later had the opportunity to receive personal instruction
through "String Coach," which is a program that pairs high school musicians with elementary school
students to help them learn the basics of their instruments. My recurring frustration with the
program was that there was seldom a bass coach. The lack of a bass coach was unfair to the young
bassists, and I told myself if there was an instance in the future where I could help the bass students,
I would.
My first opportunity to work as a string coach came during my sophomore year. As a volunteer
coach to the elementary schoolers, I treasured every moment of it. I found a great deal of joy
working with the young bassists and they really enjoyed being coached by a bassist instead of a
cellist. I was very happy to have helped make a difference in the string coach

Although his education was of an utmost importance, it was at Imperial that he explored his interest
in music. May created the band Smile with singer and bassist Tim Staffell and drummer Rodger
Taylor in early 1968. Their time was short as the band only recorded a total of six songs in their two
year run. Recognizing Smile's inevitably unsuccessful future, the band parted ways. Brian and

Brendon Boyd Urie
"I'm still figuring out who I am, but I know I'm not who I was." Brendon Boyd Urie was born on
April 12, 1987 in St. George, Utah. He was raised in a very Mormon family, and he is of Hawaiian
descent. Growing up, he loved music, and he was always singing or playing the drums, guitar, or
bass guitar. Naturally, when Brendon got to high school, he desperately wanted to join a band with
people who loved music as much as he did. At Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas, Nevada in
2004, Brendon met Brent Wilson, who asked him to be in Wilson's band, since they needed a new
guitarist. This band became known as Panic! At the Disco, a very popular pop punk band today.

There were an estimated 1.8 million sales of the single, and at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards,
Panic! At the Disco won video of the year for this song and it's music video. In 2008, the band
released their second album, Pretty. Odd., and Brendon, still the lead vocalist of the band, wrote two
songs on the album by himself, the first one titled, "I Have Friends in Holy Spaces," and the second
one titled, "Folkin' Around." During this time, Brendon also wrote a song called "New Perspective"
for a movie called "Jennifer's Body," he was featured in several Fall Out Boy songs, such as "What a
Catch, Donnie" and "20 Dollar Nose Bleed," and he helped write a song alongside Patrick Stump of
Fall Out Boy, Cee–Lo Green, and Janelle Monae for the Coca–Cola Company called "Open
Happiness." Also in 2008, he was featured in several music videos for Fall Out Boy as well, such as
the video for their song, "Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet." Directly after the tour for
Pretty. Odd. in 2009, Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker decided to depart from the band, citing
creative differences. Although Brendon and drummer Spencer Smith were devastated, Brendon

My Experience Of My Music : My Life Of Music
The air was buzzing with soft whispers and laughter. My stomach was in all sorts of knots. I could
feel my heart thumping vigorously inside my chest. It was a hot night and the giant sun–like lights
that shined down on us from the McCallum theatre didn't help at all. I held my bass guitar with a
tight grip, repeating the notes I had practiced over and over in my head.
Music has always been a thing in my family, a special thing most of us share. Family gatherings or
parties never went without the sounds of guitars, pianos, or voices filling the atmosphere. They
enjoyed displaying their talent and had such fun becoming this joyful human jukebox.
I was always the timid kid. I never liked attention and avoided the spotlight at all cost, even if it was
around the people I knew and loved. I was too shy to sing and too shy to play the instruments I had
knowledge of. When I joined band in high–school I never knew I would be able to overcome this
struggle. I started off in marching band , playing auxiliary percussion. I then became part of the jazz
band where I was the lead piano player. I enjoyed everything about band especially how we could
become one sound and jam to all sorts of music selections. One day our band teacher presented us
with an opportunity to join a latin/salsa band. Practices would be held after school and he would not
be the instructor. They needed a bass player and our current jazz band bass player did not want to

Opening the fifth day, we had The Chicago Plan, a quartet whose frontline encompasses German
multi–reedist Gebhard Ullmann and American trombonist Steve Swell, the composers of the group.
The rhythmic foundation was under the responsibility of Fred Lonberg–Holm on cello and
electronics, and Michael Zerang on drums. Using expansion/contraction techniques, they played
tunes from their debut album, released this year on Clean Feed Records, including Swell's
"Composite #10" and Ullmann's "Variations on a Master Plan", parts 2 and 3. The Dream Book
project was put together by the saxophonist Joe McPhee, who also played a cool white trumpet in
this double tribute to iconic saxist Ornette Coleman and bassist Dominic Duval. Besides two
bassists, Dominic Duval Jr. and Larry Roland, the septet also features Daniel Carter on reeds, Rosie
Hertlein on violin, Dom Minasi on guitar, and Jay Rosen on drums. The extended first piece was
inspired by Ornette's 1967 "Forms and Sounds" and was conveniently entitled "New Forms New
Sounds". The structure comprised two distinct sections that were played alternately a couple of

guitar and a thoughtful bass solo over a more temperate texture. There's depth in the groove, yet,
