2. The Early Years
• Born in Mississippi, raised in Alabama.
• Graduated with BA from Samford University.
• Enlisted in Army Reserve from 1977-1985.
• Graduate courses at U. of Alabama, then…
3. Starting My Career
• Embarked on 30 year investment career,
beginning at Merrill Lynch as stockbroker, until
three years later…
• Established Lyons and Co., a Broker
Dealer/Floor Trader/Market Maker at the
Chicago Board Options Exchange.
4. The Asset Management World
• Joined E.F. Hutton Consulting Services Group.
• Also worked for Prudential, U.S. Trust and
PaineWebber from 1986-1999.
• For 15 years: raised funds in multiple asset
classes and developed investment products.
• Built and managed convertible bond hedging
product.
5. On My Own
• Formed investment partnership in 1999.
• Launched “The Interstate Fund”, all cap
mutual fund in 2000.
• Took over private medical services company in
2003, brought it public through reverse
merger. Acquired five companies with only
$300,000 in capital.
6. The Wonder Years
• Unable to raise needed capital, resigned.
• “Wondered” where life would take me.
• Provided business development services,
established two Commodity Trading Advisors.
7. “Do Something Great”
• Rejoined National Guard as Sergeant in 2006.
• Promoted to Staff Sergeant 2009.
• Mobilized to active duty for two-one year
assignments (2009, 2012).
• Squad Leader responsible for welfare and
transition of severely wounded soldiers.
8. Moving Ahead
• Work for non-profit in Colorado Springs, CO, as
Military Support Specialist, assisting soldiers who
struggle with traumatic brain injury.
• Designed and continue to teach a Financial Life
Skills course for this population.
• Currently in Army Reserve (7 years to
retirement!)
• PhD student at Texas Tech University.
• Married 22 years, two children in college.
