The Centre of Foundation Studies is planning to hold a Deepavali celebration for
students and staff. Hence, the CFS is going to organize a Deepavali celebration event.
However, the CFS is facing a problem in which they are running out of fund to organise this
major event. As a solution for this problem, the CFS has decided to organize a two-day flea
market in order to raise fund for this event. The two-day flea market will be held in the
UTAR SLCC KB block.
As part of family tree in UTAR, the Young Entrepreneurs Club (YEC) has decided to
form an ad-hoc committee to participate in this flea market as a coordinating effort to raise
fund for the CFS to organize this major event. The YEC hopes that the club can contribute its
effort to raise the fund through participation in the flea market. The YEC has decided to name
the stall for flea market is “Cutie Sweet Treats”.
Before conducting the flea market, we have done a survey to make sure we meet wants
and type of services of UTAR students. Hence, we have conducted a survey through
distribution of survey forms among students in UTAR.

through selling this goods, the consumer will feel the extremely happiness and joyful
throughout the whole day.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The centre of foundation studies is planning to hold a Deepavali celebration for students
and staff. However, the centre lacks fund to organise this major event. Thus, the centre has
decided to have a 2-day flea market in order to raise fund. To organise this event
successfully, we have faced some problem. The main problem is we are currently lack of
funds. For example, we need funds to buy the ingredients to make food, drinks and also the
decoration for out stall. Under this kind of condition, we desperately need funds to make our
event carry out successfully. Therefore, we try to find sponsorship. We are so lucky that we
manage to get sponsorship from a Mrs Lee bakery shop. In order to show our appreciation to
Mrs Lee, we help them to promote their shop and sell some cupcakes that provided by them.
Thus, we have solved our problem in getting ingredients to make cookies. Moreover, due to
the event is fall on week 9 of out semester, some of us are busy on that week because lots of
presentation and assignment have to be done on that week. Thus, we have to manage our time
wisely to carry out the event. Some sacrifice is needed to carry out this event successfully.
Together we help each other and with great cooperation between all the committee members,
all the problems we faced could solved easily.

PROMOTION
The “Cutie Sweet Treats” committee has come out with a few promotion method to
promote the “Cutie Sweet Treats” stall during the two-day flea market.
The “Cutie Sweet Treats” committee has designed some flyer as one of the promotion
method. (Refer to Appendix B). We have printed out 200 copies and will distribute the
colorful flyers to all the students and staffs of the university to promote our stall. The flyers
contain information about our food menus that we will be selling in the “Cutie Sweet Treats”
stall. The distribution of the flyers is an effective way to spread the information about our
stall widely to the members of the university because it is colorful and it contains the
important information about our stall.
Next, the committee has also designed a poster to promote our stall.(Refer Appendix
C). We will be printing 20 copies of the poster and paste it on the notice board in the campus
two weeks before the two-day flea market .The attractive poster design can catch the
attention of the students and staff so they will take a look at the poster when walking around
the notice board. This is a cost-effective and convenient way to promote our stall as the
members of the university get to exposed to our stall earlier before the flea market when they
see the poster pasted on the notice board.
In addition , the “Cutie Sweet Treats” committee has also set up a Facebook page to
promote our stall through social media. (Refer to appendix D) . Based on the survey analysis ,
majority of the respondents indicate that they have a Facebook account. (Refer to Appendix
A ) . Therefore, we decided to create a Facebook page in order to reach out to more students
who owns a Facebook account. This help us to promote our “Cutie Sweet Treats” stall in the
social media in which we can let more students to know about the details and the
participation of our stall during the flea market.
15
Lastly, based on the survey analysis , 65% of the respondents incidate that they are
attracted to a stall based on its appearance. (Refer to Appendix A). Hence , the committee has
sketched a layout for our stall during the flea market.(Refer to Appendix E) . The committee
will be decorating the stall according to the layout of the stall sketched by our committee
member which is using colourful balloons and ribbons. The colorful appearance will attract
the customers to approach our stall during the flea market.
16
CONCLUSION
The Centre of Foundation Studies is planning to hold a Deepavali celebration for
students and staff. However, the centre lacks fund to organise this major event. Thus, the
centre has decided to have a 2-day flea market in order to raise fund. Therefore, we have
prepared a proposal for the Centre of Foundation Studies. From this fund raising event, we
found that it offers a very good opportunity for all members of Young entrepreneur club to
gain some precious experiences.
Firstly, throughout this event, the committee members would have learned the importance
of team work spirit in order to conduct this event successfully. When we met some problems,
all committees and members show theirs teamwork and cooperation by finding solution
together. Besides that, we learnt to do some researches or survey before planning what to sell
at the flea market. Through the survey form, we can obtain all the details that what customers
prefer. From the survey result, we are aware of the needs of the students. For example, we
found out that most of the students prefer chocolate chip cookies , so that we decide to sell
chocolate chip cookies instead of peanut cookies. Moreover, we have to reduce our input cost
for our products. Therefore , our members have to find sponsorships or negotiate the the price
with the supplier. Last but not least , members would have learnt some marketing skills when
they are finding ways to attract more students to buy our products such as happy hour, buy 2
free 1 promotion of combo package.
As a conclusion, after all the planning and preparation, the 2-day flea market would be
organized successfully. So, we hope that the problem faced by the Centre of Foundation
Studies in organizing Deepavali celebration would be solved by this 2-day flea market.

However, the CFS is facing a problem in which they are running out of fund to organise this major event. As a solution for this problem, the CFS has decided to organize a two-day flea market in order to raise fund for this event. The two-day flea market will be held in the UTAR SLCC KB block. As part of family tree in UTAR, the Young Entrepreneurs Club (YEC) has decided to form an ad-hoc committee to participate in this flea market as a coordinating effort to raise fund for the CFS to organize this major event. The YEC hopes that the club can contribute its effort to raise the fund through participation in the flea market. The YEC has decided to name the stall for flea market is “Cutie Sweet Treats”. Before conducting the flea market, we have done a survey to make sure we meet wants and type of services of UTAR students. Hence, we have conducted a survey through distribution of survey forms among students in UTAR. As conclusion, we are selling cookies, cupcakes and ice lemon. The reason is we hope through selling this goods, the consumer will feel the extremely happiness and joyful throughout the whole day.

  • 5. 5 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The centre of foundation studies is planning to hold a Deepavali celebration for students and staff. However, the centre lacks fund to organise this major event. Thus, the centre has decided to have a 2-day flea market in order to raise fund. To organise this event successfully, we have faced some problem. The main problem is we are currently lack of funds. For example, we need funds to buy the ingredients to make food, drinks and also the decoration for out stall. Under this kind of condition, we desperately need funds to make our event carry out successfully. Therefore, we try to find sponsorship. We are so lucky that we manage to get sponsorship from a Mrs Lee bakery shop. In order to show our appreciation to Mrs Lee, we help them to promote their shop and sell some cupcakes that provided by them. Thus, we have solved our problem in getting ingredients to make cookies. Moreover, due to the event is fall on week 9 of out semester, some of us are busy on that week because lots of presentation and assignment have to be done on that week. Thus, we have to manage our time wisely to carry out the event. Some sacrifice is needed to carry out this event successfully. Together we help each other and with great cooperation between all the committee members, all the problems we faced could solved easily.

  • 14. 14 PROMOTION The “Cutie Sweet Treats” committee has come out with a few promotion method to promote the “Cutie Sweet Treats” stall during the two-day flea market. The “Cutie Sweet Treats” committee has designed some flyer as one of the promotion method. (Refer to Appendix B). We have printed out 200 copies and will distribute the colorful flyers to all the students and staffs of the university to promote our stall. The flyers contain information about our food menus that we will be selling in the “Cutie Sweet Treats” stall. The distribution of the flyers is an effective way to spread the information about our stall widely to the members of the university because it is colorful and it contains the important information about our stall. Next, the committee has also designed a poster to promote our stall.(Refer Appendix C). We will be printing 20 copies of the poster and paste it on the notice board in the campus two weeks before the two-day flea market .The attractive poster design can catch the attention of the students and staff so they will take a look at the poster when walking around the notice board. This is a cost-effective and convenient way to promote our stall as the members of the university get to exposed to our stall earlier before the flea market when they see the poster pasted on the notice board. In addition , the “Cutie Sweet Treats” committee has also set up a Facebook page to promote our stall through social media. (Refer to appendix D) . Based on the survey analysis , majority of the respondents indicate that they have a Facebook account. (Refer to Appendix A ) . Therefore, we decided to create a Facebook page in order to reach out to more students who owns a Facebook account. This help us to promote our “Cutie Sweet Treats” stall in the social media in which we can let more students to know about the details and the participation of our stall during the flea market.
  • 15. 15 Lastly, based on the survey analysis , 65% of the respondents incidate that they are attracted to a stall based on its appearance. (Refer to Appendix A). Hence , the committee has sketched a layout for our stall during the flea market.(Refer to Appendix E) . The committee will be decorating the stall according to the layout of the stall sketched by our committee member which is using colourful balloons and ribbons. The colorful appearance will attract the customers to approach our stall during the flea market.
  • 16. 16 CONCLUSION The Centre of Foundation Studies is planning to hold a Deepavali celebration for students and staff. However, the centre lacks fund to organise this major event. Thus, the centre has decided to have a 2-day flea market in order to raise fund. Therefore, we have prepared a proposal for the Centre of Foundation Studies. From this fund raising event, we found that it offers a very good opportunity for all members of Young entrepreneur club to gain some precious experiences. Firstly, throughout this event, the committee members would have learned the importance of team work spirit in order to conduct this event successfully. When we met some problems, all committees and members show theirs teamwork and cooperation by finding solution together. Besides that, we learnt to do some researches or survey before planning what to sell at the flea market. Through the survey form, we can obtain all the details that what customers prefer. From the survey result, we are aware of the needs of the students. For example, we found out that most of the students prefer chocolate chip cookies , so that we decide to sell chocolate chip cookies instead of peanut cookies. Moreover, we have to reduce our input cost for our products. Therefore , our members have to find sponsorships or negotiate the the price with the supplier. Last but not least , members would have learnt some marketing skills when they are finding ways to attract more students to buy our products such as happy hour, buy 2 free 1 promotion of combo package. As a conclusion, after all the planning and preparation, the 2-day flea market would be organized successfully. So, we hope that the problem faced by the Centre of Foundation Studies in organizing Deepavali celebration would be solved by this 2-day flea market.
