Service Industry : An Industry Essay
2.1 Service industry Service industry is an industry that creates services. In economy, economic
activity are divided into two categories which are goods and services. Goods–producing industries
provide tangible object namely mining, manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. Service
industries include other activities apart from goods–producing industries such as wholesale, retail
trade, banking and communications. In developed countries service industry plays an important role
in the economy while primary activities, for example, agriculture and mining are dominant in
less–developed countries' economy. (The Editors of EncyclopГ¦dia Britannica, 2015.) Since the
beginning of the 1990s, service industry has created enormous growth of employment in Europe
especially in commerce and distribution, welfare services, finance and business services and hotels
and catering. In the early 21st century, more than three–fifths of the global GDP are generated from
service industries and more than one–third of the labor force worldwide are working in this industry.
(The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2015).It can be seen that service has gradually become a
crucial element in the success of organizations. The emergence of electronic business opens
opportunity to the world and intensifies competition in markets. Consequently, there is a need for
service reliability. Technology has a huge impact on service revolution. At present, service are
commoditized providing efficiency and

IT industry in India
During the past decade, the Indian IT industry has been experiencing a dramatic growth. It grew
from Rs.4.7 billion in 1991 to Rs.755.47 billion in 2003, accounting for nearly 3% of the GDP.
The revenues generated from software exports reached $10.4 billion for the financial year 2003
with a 30% growth over the previous year. The main factors which contributed to the success story
of the Indian IT industry are:
–Support from the government in the form of industrial parks, which enjoy various incentives and
tax benefits.
–Liberal export import policy.
–Strict quality policies adopted by the IT industry in terms of reliability, stability and maintainability
by adhering to the standards laid down by the ISO...show more content...
The Indian IT Industry has grown from a mere USD 150 million in 1990–91 to USD 50 billion in
2006–07 with annual growth rates of nearly 30% in the last 10 years. [1] [2]
The growth of the Indian economy is mainly owed to the IT sector and the liberalised government
policy of reduction in telecommunication cost and import duties on hardware and software. [3]
Apart from the Multinationals like IBM, HP setting up shop in India for cost advantages and cheap
labour, this industry has seen growth of successful Indian companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL,
Patni etc. The industry's contribution to GDP has significantly grown from 1.2% in 1999–2000 to
4.8% in 2005–2006[4]
Growth phase
With a CAGR of over 50% between 1992 and 2002, the Indian software sector has expanded twice as
quickly as the American software sector[5]
There are many economic and political factors that is expected to have contributed to the growth of
the Indian IT industry. In 1968 the Tatas conglomerate set up the Indian software services firmTata
Consultancy Services. Later, in 1970 IBM had to exit India due to high import duties. In 1991, due
to a balance of payments crisis the government liberalized the economy. In 1994 the telecom sector
was liberalized that led to the growth of the industry and increased competitiveness.[6]

Water In Industry Essay
The quality and quatity of available water are important in the location of a industry. For this
purpose surface water as well as ground water may be used, but the supply must be adequate and
continuous throughout the year. The supply, should however, not disturb the municipal water supply
of the area. More than 50% of water supply used in industry is utilised for cooling purposes, that is,
to carry away heat by warming or by evaporaton. A considerable amount of water is also used for
solution and dilution purposes in the industry and for this purpose pure water is extremely
necessary. The location of a industry in a particular area is decided by taking into consideration the
following important factors i.e. Raw material, Power supply,...show more content...
On rising to high altitudes, they undergo condensation and form small droplets. These droplets
move in the sky in the form of clouds and aggregate continuously till they become heavy enough
unable to support their weight: As a result they fall down in the form of rain. Since rain water is
produced by a process of distillation, it is considered to be purest form of water. The rain water,
however , is associated with dissolved gases such as CO2, SO2, NH3 etc from the atmosphere.
India being a vast country, with an area of about 806 million acres, the rainfall constitutes one of
the most important and largest source of water. The rain water in the hilly districts and from the
snows that melt in the mountain regions, flows in the form of rivers. The original river water is
very pure, but it takes up suspended impurities as it flows through the plains. In this process, it also
dissolves CO2 from the atmosphere, which enables water to dissolve carbonates as it passes over
the beds. Some of the rain water percolates underneath the surface of earth, till it reaches an
impervious strata which prevents its further penetration. This exudes in the from of springs. Water
from springs contains dissolved sulphur compounds. Such water is helpful in the cure of skin
diseases. If water from the springs contains some salts such as magnesium chloride and mangnesium
sulphate, it is also known as saline water.
The chief source of water supply for industrial purposes are: Ground water,

The tourism industry Essay
Tourism is a major economic and social significant that has been recognized in both developed and
developing countries. Tourism is the temporary movement of people to destinations outside their
normal places of work and residence. The activities undertaken during their stay in these
destinations by facilities are meant to cater the needs of the consumer. The act of traveling for
pleasure is a luxury. Until recently only a restricted few had the time and money to travel. Increasing
leisure, higher incomes and greatly enhanced mobility have combined to enable more people to
partake in travel.
The concept of wide–scale travel away from home is a relatively new phenomenon. In the past few

It is necessary to know what people consider a need so that we can discover how these can be
fulfilled. These can include: physiological needs (ex. hunger, thirst, sleep...), safety needs (ex.
freedom from threat of danger), love/social needs (ex. feeling of belonging, affection, friendship...),
esteem needs (ex. self–respect, achievement, self confidence, reputation...), and self –actualization
needs (ex. self–fulfillment and realizing one's potential). People are motivated to travel t leave
behind the personal or interpersonal problems of their environment and to obtain personal or
interpersonal rewards. The personal rewards are mainly sense of competence, challenge, learning,
exploration and relaxation. The interpersonal rewards surface from social interaction.
There has probably never been a more exciting time for the study of tourism geography than the
present. Both as an industry and as a social phenomenon, tourism is renowned for the speed and
scale of change. But at the dawn of the twenty–first century, the challenges of change seem more
daunting than ever. These are especially evident in terms of globalization, the new consumer, and the
democratic challenge. Globalization represents the intensification of the linkages between places,
which increasingly shape the global as well as being shaped by it. Above all it signifies the
deepening of competition in the tourism industry, as both the reach of transnational

Essay On Construction Industry
Now days the main building material used in the construction industry are concrete, steel and
timber. From the point of view of ecological sustainability, there are four important differences
between these three materials: first, timber is the only material of the three that is renewable;
second, timber needs only a small amount of energy to be extracted and recycled compared to steel
and concrete (but the implementation of its potential is not as developed yet); third, timber does
not produce waste by the end of its life since it can be reused many times in several products before
decomposing or being used as fuel and; and fourth, timber traps huge amounts of carbon from the
atmosphere – a tree can contain a ton of CO2– and the carbon...show more content...
But a dense city necessarily requires the construction of high–rise buildings, posing challenges to
wood construction technologies, since wood has traditionally been used in small buildings where the
structural demands are lower. Also, the durability of wood due to moisture decay and fire has been a
problem for timber structures. Fortunately, new timber–based products are being developed which
are structurally stronger and last for longer periods of time without any moisture and fire
complications. These new products allow us to build high–rise buildings, turning timber into a
feasible and convenient alternative to traditional high–rise building materials such as concrete and
steel. Wood technology will undoubtedly keep developing along this path, making it possible to
build skyscrapers in the future. Even though material innovation and modern technologies have
increased the durability of timber significantly, there are still people who argue that steel and
concrete are much more durable and, therefore more sustainable. However, the difficulty of reusing
these materials is an issue. Nowadays, cities are very dynamic and are constantly changing, and
thus the average life span of a building is not as long as it used to be in the past; today buildings die
young. A study of residential buildings in the United Kingdom claims

in the equipment industry and John Deere had to do major price slashing to gain market share from
these competitors. Another competitor, AGCO, has a list of brands, which include Massey

INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
FIVE FORCE ANALYSIS
An industry is gathering of firms that produce same products or provide similar type of service.
Industry analysis has more deep and direct effect on the firm's competitiveness and firms
capability to reach above average return. In Industry analysis all the parts that possess impacts on
the capability of firm are mainly external. It includes external factors like the supplier and its
power to negotiate, new or budding companies in same industry. Industry analysis can be easily
done by analysing five major points. All the five points together are known as Five Force Analysis

My Experience At The Hospitality Industry
The hospitality industry is most definitely the largest industry in the world and is still growing!
There are various different positions within the industry that individuals can pursue, whether it is in
lodging, travel, recreation, assembly and event management, or restaurants and managed services.
My personal interest is in lodging because that entails hotels, motels, and resorts. My ideal position
is to become a resort activities director, at Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort, to be specific.
Now there are many different industries in the workforce to choose from but of them all, I chose
the hospitality industry, mainly because I like to take pride in making people happy. I
understand that guest service is an important goal of the hospitality industry and would love to
provide outstanding service to guests as a career. As Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and
you will never have to work a day in your life." I believe that I love this industry and that I will
never work a day in my life. One key component factor about the hospitality industry that won me
over was that it is an international industry. There are many different types of hotels and resorts and
thousands of hotels and resorts to seek employment all over the country and all over the world. Not
only could I work in another state or another country, I could work on a cruise ship! In the hospitality
industry, it seems that there are endless career opportunities. In addition, the opportunity to travel has

The Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry
The specific industry that will be referred to will be the semiconductor manufacturing industry. This
industry emerged after World War II, first in the Boston area and then moved westwards into
California during the 1950s. Reasons for locating in such areas include flat land, temperature, stable
economy, steady government scene, accessible to markets, available raw materials and high skilled
labour. Because the industry is high tech it has meant that these factors are decreasing in importance
and factors such as the environment, government assistance and cleanliness are changing the pattern

Another key economical factor was the economy of the region, areas such as United States, Japan
and Western Europe are key examples of this. The political and financial systems allowed access to
the financial capital needed for the development of semiconductor manufacturing. Thus it has meant
that most research and development in the industry comes mainly from Japanese and American
firms. So it meant that the manufacturers would locate in Japan and America because the economy
was stable and there was large amounts of capital to ensure the country would not crumble.
Political factors also have a key effect on the location of semiconductor manufacturers. This includes
the help that the industry receive from key government sectors such as the military. During the Cold

thus it had effects for the electronics industry. It meant that the public was exposed to electronics and

The Beauty Of The Cosmetics Industry Essay
The cosmetics industry is flourishing, according to Research and Markets "The global Cosmetic
market was 460 billion USD in 2014 and is estimated to reach 675 billion USD by 2020 growing at a
rate of 6.4%" (Oristep). But as the industry has been growing, the legislation surrounding it has
remained relatively stagnant within the United States. In recent years, the industry has been
subjected to scrutiny because of the use of potentially harmful ingredients. While the Food and Drug
Administration is in charge of regulating the cosmetics industry, cosmetics do not require approval
from the FDA before going to market (FDA Evaluates). Changes in United States legislation
regarding the cosmetics industry need to be made because potentially harmful ingredients are
currently being used in many products.
Health consciousness is becoming more and more common, with many people adopting "green"
lifestyles because they are considered healthier. As people continue to learn more about what may be
potentially harmful to them or their families, their purchasing habits change, and some companies
accommodate that change to continue profiting from those customers. Foods that are organic,
non–genetically modified and those without artificial coloring and flavoring are gaining popularity,
as are stores that specialize in them. One of the most well–known stores in this space is Whole

The And The Creative Industry Essay
Introduction
In today 's era of regular internet downloads and the easy access to illegal films and music, the
creative industry has struggled, (BBC.co.uk, 2016). Due to this, money has increased for live
performances and cinema to try and ensure money is still being made by the industry,(MakeUseOf,
2016). What are the other options for platforms and how are they surviving? One method is the pay
what you want model. Pay what you want (or PWYW) is a payment model where buyers pay their
desired amount for a given product, sometimes for the price of zero. In some cases, a minimum
(floor) price may be set, and/or a suggested price may be indicated as guidance for the buyer. The
buyer can also select an amount higher than the standard price for the artists work,(En.wikipedia.org,
2016). The"Pay what you want" payment model is being used over numerous business platforms;
from restaurants (Coldwell, 2016) to theatre companies (Gardner, 2016) are utilising the payment
method.
In October 2007 Radiohead released their "in rainbows" album using the "pay what you want"
model. They gave their fans the freedom to pay whatever they wanted for their album including ВЈ0,
this was the first of its kind for a major act and it ended up outselling its previous studio
album,(En.wikipedia.org, 2016).

What Is An Industry? Essay
What is an Industry? So, what is an industry? This sounds like an absurd question. At least that
was what I thought while I twirled my pencil around while sitting in my MBA economics class at
7PM. However, when the professor began to discuss the renowned Harvard Professor Michael
Porter and his "Five Forces" model, I immediately became more interested. The diagram of his five
forces model shown below is widely used to analyze the intensity of the competition and the
profitability and attractiveness of a specific industry. пїј As you can see, Porter's five forces model
relies on five aspects, supplier power, buyer power, threat of a substitute, threat of a new entry
and competitive rivalry. Under each of those categories there are bullet points. Why do you need
this? This diagram does look boring, but it is actually one of the best tools for evaluating the
potential business ideas. There are many ways to analyze a business idea for viability. However,
I want to give you as many tools as possible. Therefore, I think it is important to briefly discuss
this useful tool in more detail. Which will make this material more useful and applicable in the
latter chapters and actionable for building your idea list. You can also use this model to analyze
an industry for weaknesses and strengths. "Supplier power" is a major factor in business. A firm's
supply chain can be crippled, and profit margins can easily be crushed by a supplier, so it is worth

For this purpose surface water as well as ground water may be used, but the supply must be adequate and continuous throughout the year. The supply, should however, not disturb the municipal water supply of the area. More than 50% of water supply used in industry is utilised for cooling purposes, that is, to carry away heat by warming or by evaporaton. On rising to high altitudes, they undergo condensation and form small droplets. These droplets move in the sky in the form of clouds and aggregate continuously till they become heavy enough unable to support their weight: As a result they fall down in the form of rain. Since rain water is produced by a process of distillation, it is considered to be purest form of water. The rain water, however , is associated with dissolved gases such as CO2, SO2, NH3 etc from the atmosphere. India being a vast country, with an area of about 806 million acres, the rainfall constitutes one of the most important and largest source of water. The rain water in the hilly districts and from the snows that melt in the mountain regions, flows in the form of rivers. The original river water is very pure, but it takes up suspended impurities as it flows through the plains. In this process, it also dissolves CO2 from the atmosphere, which enables water to dissolve carbonates as it passes over the beds. Some of the rain water percolates underneath the surface of earth, till it reaches an impervious strata which prevents its further penetration. This exudes in the from of springs. Water from springs contains dissolved sulphur compounds. Such water is helpful in the cure of skin diseases. If water from the springs contains some salts such as magnesium chloride and mangnesium sulphate, it is also known as saline water. From the point of view of ecological sustainability, there are four important differences between these three materials: first, timber is the only material of the three that is renewable; second, timber needs only a small amount of energy to be extracted and recycled compared to steel and concrete (but the implementation of its potential is not as developed yet); third, timber does not produce waste by the end of its life since it can be reused many times in several products before decomposing or being used as fuel and; and fourth, timber traps huge amounts of carbon from the atmosphere – a tree can contain a ton of CO2– and the carbon...show more content... But a dense city necessarily requires the construction of high–rise buildings, posing challenges to wood construction technologies, since wood has traditionally been used in small buildings where the structural demands are lower. Also, the durability of wood due to moisture decay and fire has been a problem for timber structures. Fortunately, new timber–based products are being developed which are structurally stronger and last for longer periods of time without any moisture and fire complications. These new products allow us to build high–rise buildings, turning timber into a feasible and convenient alternative to traditional high–rise building materials such as concrete and steel. Wood technology will undoubtedly keep developing along this path, making it possible to build skyscrapers in the future. Even though material innovation and modern technologies have increased the durability of timber significantly, there are still people who argue that steel and concrete are much more durable and, therefore more sustainable. However, the difficulty of reusing these materials is an issue. Nowadays, cities are very dynamic and are constantly changing, and thus the average life span of a building is not as long as it used to be in the past; today buildings die young. • 18. What Is An Industry? Essay What is an Industry? So, what is an industry? This sounds like an absurd question. At least that was what I thought while I twirled my pencil around while sitting in my MBA economics class at 7PM. However, when the professor began to discuss the renowned Harvard Professor Michael Porter and his "Five Forces" model, I immediately became more interested. The diagram of his five forces model shown below is widely used to analyze the intensity of the competition and the profitability and attractiveness of a specific industry. пїј As you can see, Porter's five forces model relies on five aspects, supplier power, buyer power, threat of a substitute, threat of a new entry and competitive rivalry. Under each of those categories there are bullet points. Why do you need this? This diagram does look boring, but it is actually one of the best tools for evaluating the potential business ideas. There are many ways to analyze a business idea for viability. However, I want to give you as many tools as possible. Therefore, I think it is important to briefly discuss this useful tool in more detail. Which will make this material more useful and applicable in the latter chapters and actionable for building your idea list. You can also use this model to analyze an industry for weaknesses and strengths. "Supplier power" is a major factor in business.
