The document provides a treatment for the film "Angela" which includes summaries of the title, inspirations, props, characters, sub-genre, themes, synopsis, target audience, location, and application of Todorov's theory of narrative structure. The title "Angela" was chosen to fit the antagonist and its simple design conveys the film's intent effectively. Inspiration comes from films like "Orphan" that explore themes of jealousy and revenge which shaped the film's development. Props like fake blood are essential to achieve horror film characteristics. The sub-genre is psychological/supernatural and themes are jealousy and revenge as the antagonist Angela seeks retaliation. Location scouting was difficult but a team member's
2. Film Title
The title of our film is ‘Angela’ this is quite apparent
considering it right in the centre of the page. Angela was
initially Mariam’s idea, therefore she is the one who
thought of calling the film Angela. However collectively we
al decided to keep the title Angela because we thought it
fit well with the profile of the antagonist. The design of the
name is simple and to the point. I didn’t want to ruin the
effectiveness of a short and memorable name by
decorating it with different symbols of horror films. This
could be things like an excessive use of fake blood or
drawing the words in fancy style.
3. Film Inspirations
Angela is mainly inspired by 3 different films which are
Orphan, The Conjuring and Poltergeist. I put them in the top
right hand corner because I think they a really relevant and
important information. The film inspirations are very
important because they gave us knowledge on how to
created a psychological/supernatural film.
Further I have explained what parts of each film gave us
inspiration e.g. in the film Orphan, Ether is jealous of the
relationship between the mum and the dad. She wanted to
get revenge on the mum because she was taking all the
attention away. This is what helped us come up with a theme.
4. Props
The props that we are using in our film are
quite generic to all horror films. However I
think these props are essential for our film
because they will display horror film
characteristics such as fake blood.
I think that fake blood is not only one of the
most essential props but it is also very
effective. It can make anything scary and it
can create really horrific murder scenes.
5. Characters
The characters in the film at first seem to be all
similar however you can quickly determine the
strong and weak between the 3 of them,
especially by the way they handle strange
happenings around the house.
Cast List:
Sam – Final Girl
Maria – Her body gets possessed by Angela
Charlie – Get killed by possessed Maria
Angela – Evil, demonic spirit
Dr Max – Demonologist
6. Sub-genre and Themes
The sub-genre for Angela is Psychological/Supernatural.
Therefore in the final product we need to have lots of
jump scares because psychological/ and supernatural
films do have jump scares.
As the treatment states in big clear writing, the themes
for Angela are Jealousy and Revenge. This is because
Angela is jealous of the girls being able to attend
university. This is all Angela every wanted but her life
was tragically cut short by her mother. So Angela wants
to get revenge on the girls by trying to kill them all.
7. Synopsis
The first synopsis that was written for Angela
was very underdeveloped, it just needed to be
thought through. So we did a second draft,
however from the feed back for Angela some of
the comments were about the storyline being a
bit confusing and still underdeveloped.
Therefore we all came together as a group and
really planned step by step what will had in each
scene. The third draft that is on the treatment is
the most recent one and we think that it’s the
best because its not too over the top with ideas
that are not realistic to create.
8. Target Audience
The treatment shows the 3 most important things about
the target audience:
1. We decided to give the film a 15 certificate as we did
research on similar films in the
psychological/supernatural sub genre. The majority
of the ratings for these films is 15.
2. Teenagers are most likely to watch this film because
the cast is made up of teenagers. The storyline is like
a playground fight between popular and unpopular
girls.
3. Even though it is predictable that the target audience
will be mostly be teenagers, the sub genres will
attract a slightly older audience.
9. Location
Finding the perfect location for our film has
been quite stressful as we couldn’t find any
houses that were big enough for the
characters to be get lost in. However one of
the team members Tashfin showed us
pictures of her own house and it fitted the
specification we wanted perfectly. From the
pictures it is clear that the rooms are big
and spacious like American houses. As a
group we think that this location is the best
one we’ve looked into. The equilibrium
scenes (the party) can get set up in the
living room and we’ll still have room to
shoot and not feel cramped.
10. Todorov’s Theory
Todorov’s theory is about the beginning
(equilibrium – where everyone is happy and
nothing bad has happened yet), middle
(disequilibrium – know as the state of
disruption by an usual event) and end
(solution – where the problem is solved and
the initial equilibrium is restored) of a film.
