who provides support to artists. They become loyal customers to the artist and help them be put out
on the map. They often finance a starving artist.
One critical patron to art in Renaissance Italy was Pope Julius II. In this period the church was often,
the leading patrons of art and Pope Julius II helped keep the church one of the main patronages of
this time. He commissioned many artists who created famous art pieces in Rome and in despite that
many different families in Italy were rivaling the church. Julius II did whatever he could delay the
plans of Lorenzo de Medici, the most powerful patron in Italy at the time. He had taken
Michelangelo and commanded him to work in Rome. Thus delaying Michelangelo's work with

Bramante, and together they were able to modernize and expand the church. Raphael also came to
work for the pope due to his friendship with Bramante. He commissioned Raphael to paint the
Stanza Della Segnatura and was honored in highly for creating the Vatican Library so well. Many
people believe that Pope Julius II commissions allowed him to become a very influential patron.
However, his motives behind being a patron are highly criticized as many believe that he did it only

Theosophical Influence Of Jackson Pollock's Art
Jackson Pollock was a legendary, novel, abstract expressionist who has created numerous paintings
through his drip–style, action painting technique (Goodnough, 2012). Theosophical influence arose
from Phillip Guston and Thomas Hart Benton, while in the early stages of the artist's life. Muralists,
such as Jose Clemente Orozco and Diego Rivera were also admired and studied by Pollock. He was
captivated by the unorthodox techniques of David Alfaro Siqueiros which contributed to the abstract
style of Jackson Pollock (Solomon, 1987). These early influences helped Pollock transform physical
space and feelings into an endless canvas of color, rhythm, and design. Drawing inspiration from

Pegy Museum History
When Peggy came to New York in 1941, she brought with her, not only her family but, all of her
170 artworks by 67 artists. For a short time period, Peggy derangedly displayed her art collection at
the Hale House, her residential space in Midtown East of Manhattan, up until 1942, when Art of
This Century opened its doors to the public in the month of October of that same year. The art forum
space, that was neither a museum nor a gallery but a fusion of the two was not just renowned for
complementing the aesthetics of Peggy's art collection, nor for resembling her dramatic charisma,
but also for hosting shows with artworks made by then non–famous who now are famous American
artists. At the Art of This Century, history of the modern art world ... Show more content on

If one walked in on an ordinary day, he would observe that the artworks were laid around as books
are in a reading room, without a given order; this space was also used as an informal space for
meetings, lectures, and gatherings. Among the paintings and three–dimensional artworks that were
displayed on multi–functioned brightly colored biomorphic shaped made out of wood, at times,
Robert Motherwell would give lectures on painting. Peggy's desk was also located in that space,
though often times was unattended because Peggy preferred to spend more time in the gallery
brushing shoulders and starting a conversation with her visitors. Thought, it was the least theatrical
in design, this art space the has the most impact on American art. It was in this gallery that many
American artists made their debut in the art world. This is where the art of action painters was first
evaluated by a committee consisting of Barr, Duchamp, Mondrian, Putzel, Soby, Sweeney and
Peggy – and later put on display for the public in the same exact room that the committee reviewed

the death of its founder in 1952. Solomon R. Guggenheim had been collecting his works of old
masters back in 1980s. They met with Hilla Von Rebay who was an artist in 1926, who in turn
introduced him to European Avant–grade art of which she felt had some spiritual and utopian aspect.
(Heartney, 1999). As a result, Guggenheim changed his strategy of collecting and turned to the work
of Wassily Kandinsky, just to mention. Initially, he displayed his collection at his apartment in New
York City to the public. His collection grew and in 1937, he established Solomon R. Guggenheim
