4. Escherichia coli Negative rod Lives in sewage, intestinal tract of warm-blooded animals Signs and Symptoms Diarrhea, which may range from mild and watery to severe and bloody Abdominal cramping, pain or tenderness Nausea and vomiting (Brown, 2009; Merck, 2010)

5. Pseudomonas aeruginosa Negative rod Lives in soil and water (opportunistic) Signs and Symptoms Dependent on body system infected Fever, loss of hearing, foul-smelling discharge, nerve damage, damage to cornea, itchy skin rash with pimples, frequent urination, lower abdominal pain (Brown, 2009; Merck, 2010)

6. Staphylococcus aureus Positive cocci Lives on or in human skin, nose, and GI Signs and Symptoms Shallow, fluid-filled blisters that rupture Cellulitis or folliculitis Boils Epidermal necrosis (large scale peeling of skin) Abscesses (Brown, 2009; Merck, 2010)

Shigellaflexneri Negative rods Intestinal tract of humans Signs and Symptoms Most dangerous to children High fever (up to 106o F [41° C]), sometimes with delirium Severe dehydration with weight loss Up to 20 bowel movements a day With severe diarrhea, protrusion of part of the rectum out of the body (rectal prolapse) Rarely, marked swelling of the intestine and tearing (perforation) of the large intestine (Merck, 2010)
