I Am Working With A Family
Question 1:
In this scenario, I am working with a family in the hospital setting. The patient is a 7 year–old male
who is hospitalized due to complications with cystic fibrosis and also has a diagnosis of Down
Syndrome. Present in the family structure is the patient and both biological parents, who are college
graduates and have substantial employment. From my previous observations, I am aware that the
patient enjoys positive attention, such as praise, nonverbal attention, playing games, or reading
books, from adults, but also frequently displays non–compliance with requests from adults. Another
important observation to note is that the patient is only able to follow simple 1 and 2–step
commands and cannot speak in full sentences.
In the healthcare setting, there are many experiences that may lead to problematic behaviors in
children, but in a situation where a child also has a developmental disability these problematic
behaviors can be more intense and more difficult to tame. An antecedent is what happens
immediately before a problematic behavior, such as a demand, transition, time of day, specific
request being denied, and so forth. An antecedent that might lead to problematic behavior in the
hospital for this particular child could be seen in the following example; the nursing staff entered the
patient's room to start an IV without assessing developmental age/abilities and gave the patient a 3–
step command to keep his arm still, not wiggle his body, and listen or talk to

Reflective Summary of Role Play
May 17, 2012 1140 Words 5 Pages
As a student, in the beginning of my professional career, writing reflection seems a sensible idea to
record learning experience. The early stages of any career would play important role in learning as
one settles into the ways of profession. The complex part is recognizing such experience and
implementing on practice. In this reflection, I will be discussing about the role play we have had last
week in our classroom. Gibbs (1998) reflective cycle will be utilized as it illustrates a clear structure
for the process of reflection which includes six main stages; description of the event, feelings,
evaluation, description (analysis to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We finally prepared by ourselves and had little rehearsal on the same day of interview. Feelings:
During role play, I was appointed to be the interviewee. Initially, I was a bit hesitant to take up the
role since I believe that the interviewee has the main role in interview to influence the evaluator. I
was bit nervous and panic as I did not have enough rehearsal. Norcross & Sayette (2011, P.105)
mentioned that "as with anything else in the application process the more you prepare the more
confident and less nervous you will feel". On the other hand, as we all have individual
characteristics and way of thinking, it was challenging for me to communicate effectively with my
partner and reach on conclusion which made me feel frustrated in some extent. During presentation,
despite my frequent mental reminders, I guess my nervousness got the better of me and I ended up
with short answers. Evaluation: Since I have had very few rehearsals and experience of real
interview, I believed that it was well done despite some shortcomings. The questions were relevant
to the position interviewed for however; there was lack of analysis of the answers at a professional
standard. As an interviewee, although I spoke fluently in general, the perfectionist in me was not
happy that there were few occasion when I stumbled over my words and had to pause to recall my
answers. On the other hand, interviewer was encouraging and made me feel

Child Life Specialist Research Paper
Child life specialists play an increasingly important role in health care by helping children and
families cope and adjust to the challenges of hospital visits. Although a child life specialist's
contribution to the health care experience of children and families can vary, their primary goal is to
support the emotional needs of children with the aim of helping them understand the hospital
environment. Secondly, child life specialists can help to provide positive play therapy experiences
for children to help reduce anxiety and fear. Additionally, they can help prepare children for surgery
or medical procedures by demonstrating and communicating what they will see, hear, feel, and/ or

I also obtained my Early Childhood Education Certification from Niagara College. I have learned
that with appropriate accommodations and a dedication to creating an optimal environment, any
child can be provided the opportunity to overcome personal obstacles and challenges. Although my
experiences have primarily been in the school setting, I believe the knowledge and skills I have
gained will benefit me when supporting children and their families in a hospital setting. I have
learned through my experiences in the classrooms that every child is unique. My education has
taught me that the planning and implementation of strategies, activities, and programs must be
tailored to meet the needs of the child, building on their strengths. I possess a variety of qualities
and characteristics that would allow me to be a child life specialist. The first attribute I bring to the
profession is my love to work with children. In the classroom, I find it rewarding to watch children
learn, grow, and develop and I believe that this love easily transfers to a hospital setting. The second
skill that I would bring to the child

Making Digital Outcomes And Specialists Work Better For You
Draft title: Making Digital Outcomes and Specialists work better for you (Part 1)
We 've been continuously improving Digital Outcomes and Specialists since it arrived on the Digital
Marketplace in April. Our development team works in 2 week sprints. These are set periods during
which specific work is completed. During each sprint, we work on new features and changes that
are prioritised according to the user need and its impact. Because each sprint is only 2 weeks, it also
means that we can take in new user feedback and reprioritise what we need to work on.
There have been 5 sprints during the time that Digital Outcomes and Specialists has been available.
We also opened G–Cloud 8 submissions and introduced an improved way to return signed
framework agreements in this period. But, our main focus has been on identifying and solving any
problems that our users have with Digital Outcomes and Specialists.
We have identified and solved several user needs. These changes are now live on the Digital
Marketplace. In our next post, we'll be updating you on some of the things we're currently working
on to make Digital Outcomes and Specialists better. But first, we'd like to talk about some problems
we found, and the ways we have solved them.
The need for buyers to take through at least 3 suppliers to evaluation stage

Capstone Goal Assignment Analysis
For our capstone goals and objectives assignment, we were required to create a minimum of four
measurable and specific goals with a minimum of three objectives to achieve each of those goals.
My first goal was: the ability to independently prepare a patient for an IV placement based on
developmental age, misconceptions, and current understanding, across all ages while applying child
development and identifying/evaluating the best distraction/diversion techniques. The three
objectives to achieve this goal were as follows: Objective 1.) During my first rotation observe and

Designing A Sustainable Competitive Advantage For...
As a set of business activities that add value to goods and services sold to consumers, retailing
involves key strategies in order to build a sustainable, competitive advantage for companies
(Peterson & Balasubramanian, 2002). These strategies involve identifying a retailer's target market
and satisfying those needs. Through observing the retail strategy used by the company T2, this essay
will ascertain and analyse their retail mix in order to determine the competitive advantage T2 has
and whether it is sustainable or not.
Before T2 can be analysed in terms of the retailing strategy used, it must first be defined as a retail
outlet. It is a speciality, store–based, franchise organisation (Reynolds et al., 2007) that was founded
over 18 years ago by an interior designer named Maryanne Shearer (Shearer, The Making of T2,
2015). Beginning as a retail store in Fitzroy, Australia, it was seen as an opportunity to re–invent tea
for the new generations to come; to make tea fashionable. T2 has expanded its reach to over 65
stores worldwide, including New Zealand. All of the T2 retail stores provide a sensory experience
for the customers, allowing them to explore the immersive world of tea drinking (Shearer,
Philosophy, 2015). T2's move over to New Zealand occurred in 2013, with the opening of the Queen
Street store. This store will be analysed in terms of retail mix and strategies.

A Career As A Pediatric Nurse
Today we will learn about pediatric nurse and what they do for us in this world. They spend their
lives taking care of children, whether they are healthy, sick or dying. They might wonder what a
pediatric nurse is, well it is a certified nurse that deals with only children.
There use to be just be regular nurses that had no certification at all. Just a regular registered nurse
would take care of everyone there was no specititizes. Hospitals would not admit a lot of children
with communicable disease because of high mortality rates. This changed when the first children's

In a hospital setting they will work an average of eight to twelve hours a shift. Most nurses that
work in hospital work three days and then have four days off. This allows them to spend time with
family or to do other things. Anywhere else like a doctor's office will be most likely an eight hour
shift. People can make anywhere between $46,000 to $65,000 a year. The more someone gets
certified in the more they will get paid. If people get certified in pediatric nurse they will have job
security because they are need all over the world. According to the bureau and labor and statistics

The Canadian Retail Market Has A Complex And...
The Canadian retail market has a complex and multidimensional history. Retail Nation: Department
Stores and the Making of Modern Canada written by Donica Belisle, explores the journeys of major
Canadian department stores such as Eaton's, Simpson's and HBC between the 1890's and 1940's.
Specifically, she analyzes their development, morals and societal views from a feminist and
paternalist perspective. These complex theories are coupled with both examples and clear
explanations in order to gain a deep insight into the history of the Canadian retail market. In
addition to a brief overview of the book, I will discuss the interest level, relevance, structure and
potential bias within Belisle's work. Canada's department stores experienced significant success
despite entering the retail market much after stores in Great Britain, France and the United States.
After being established in the 1880's and 90's, they experienced rapid growth and eventually
surpassed major international stores such as Macys, Fields and Wanamaker in sales and store size.
This national market domination was far more prominent than anywhere elsewhere in the world
(44). Their quick fortune was driven by the innovative use of catalogues and the opening of
numerous branches during their heyday in the early 1900's. This put primarily Eaton's, but also
Simpson's and HBC, in the spotlight as globally recognized Canadian department stores. These
great retail stores had a momentous effect on the Canadian

Health Care Delivery Needs Provide Clinical Nurse...
Unpredictable care delivery needs provide clinical nurse specialists with unique and interesting
daily responsibilities. The role is the ideal career for nursing professionals who enjoy variety and
challenge. Due to their enhanced skill sets and responsibilities, clinical nurse specialists make
significant impacts on caregiving. Nursing professionals choosing this career shape organizational
policies and procedures, and for half a century have led the caregiving community through many
innovations. Historically, the medical community made little effort to distinguish the clinical nurse
specialist and nurse practitioner role. However, society's reliance on nurse practitioners to fill the
United States physician shortage now requires state boards to delineate the disciplines for regulatory
reasons.
No Two Days Are the Same
Clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) typically perform varying tasks each day. [1] Some begin their day
reviewing calls from clients. Throughout the day, they arrange patient prescriptions and consult with
patients. At times, CNSs make hospital stay arrangements and visit clients to check on their
condition or encourage them before complex surgeries.
Clinical nurse specialists also attend to client families by providing support and relaying patient
status updates. They meet with consultants on behalf of patients to determine potential action plans.
CNSs also review patient tests and historical vital statistics to monitor client conditions. Using this

Department store globalization. Retail stores are focusing on factors that affect strategic
environments in globalization. Drastic declines in prices of ocean freight per ton, air transport per
passenger mile and policies leading to the opening of new markets have played a major role in the
expansion of trade in recent years (Krugman, Paul 1995). Domestic stores, with the advent of the

diligently with their manufacturers and suppliers to grow and reach customers worldwide. Cost

The Effects and Perceptions of a Therapeutic Medical Play Session for Pediatric Surgical Patients
It has been documented that children undergoing surgery and their families experience high levels
of distress and perioperative anxiety. Stress and perioperative anxiety have the potential to cause
more harm on post–surgical healing, in consideration of both physical and mental health, if not
addressed promptly and properly. Child Life Specialists are pediatric healthcare professionals who
are able to provide interventions to help reduce anxiety and increase developmental growth within
pediatric patients, provide family centered care, and facilitating therapeutic play interventions for
pediatric patients, all the while in the hospital environment (Child Life Council, 2014). Child life
specialists are able to meet these values and missions to create a standard of practice that the
American Pediatric Association recommends in all pediatric healthcare settings (Child Life Council,
2014). Typically, when child life specialists are working with pediatric patients undergoing
anesthesia for surgical procedures they are able to participate as a part of the multidisciplinary
health team to provide family centered care and increase a patient and their families understanding
on the medical procedure at hand. A common intervention for pediatric patients undergoing

Review Of ' Writing A Wall Street Op '
To begin with, Flash Boys is terrible. It is not just a major whiff, but a travesty. And it really ticked
me off.
Lewis had a major incentive to over–hype the story, as he all but admitted. I fully agree with Cliff
Asness of AQR Capital, who wrote in a Wall Street op ed: "Making mountains out of molehills sells
more books than a study of molehills." That is more or less what happened here. Lewis wanted to
sell a lot of books. He wanted to capture "lightning in a bottle" (to use his own phrase). He captured
irresponsible hyperbole instead.
In Flash Boys, Lewis' immense talent as a writer works against him. He is a master of storycraft – of
telling a complex story through the lens of key players. But when the actual story is distorted ...

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, published in 1923, is the fictionalized version of Jesse
Livermore's true story. A key point in the story is when Livermore (aka Larry Livingston) goes from
trading in the "bucket shops" to actually trading real equities on the exchanges, by way of the ticker
tape. In this book, more than 90 years old now, Livermore talks about how his "bucket shop" trading
style had to adjust because instant fills were not available in the real world. He talked of a "lag" in
the tape that forced him to adjust his style. Sound familiar? Liquidity has always been an issue. The

Essay On LED Lighting
THE EFFECTS OF ALBEDO LED LIGHTING ON RETAIL SPACES
Opposite to some popular wisdom, retail stores are not dead, and they will not be replaced by online
operations. People (who use a product or service) continue to spend money at retail establishments,
if for no other reason than to see the physical products that they might later order online. The store's
goal in this competitive (surrounding conditions) is to make the retail outlet and its products so
attractive that the (related to people who use a product or service) (instances of buying things for

A store can install a variety of LED lighting options to backlight products or to create indirect or
quiet lighting in different parts of a store. Display cases for smaller items, such as jewelry of
personal fashion can be lit with brighter LED's that draw attention to fine patterns and textures.
Since LED lights operate at low temperatures and without creating the excess heat that is just like
traditional display case lighting, the store's products that are bought and sold will not be harmed by
any excess warmth in display cases.
Many stores operate on thin (how much money is being made), which forces them to reduce
operating costs wherever possible. LED lighting for retail has the possible ability to reduce a retail
store's electrical utility costs by more than half. Modern LED lighting is so (producing a lot with
very little waste) that it can create the same or better lighting as a traditional lighting fixture with
less than half of the electrical energy input. LED bulbs also last longer than other forms of lighting,
and the store's lighting maintenance costs will be reduced. LED lighting for retail therefore has the
possible ability to increase a store's sales and to reduce overhead costs, all of which gives directly to
a store's (money made/good things received).
Stores that operate stand alone locations that are separate from large malls and other shopping
outlets can make their stores more inviting with bright exterior LED lighting. A shopper will

To offer good customer service consistently is not an easy task as retail employees are hard to train
and less consistent than machines. However, good customer service still can be developed with
considerable amount of time and effort that retailers put in. Once a retailer has earned a good service
reputation, it can sustain this advantage for a longer time as it is hard for competitor to develop a
comparable reputation. A retailer may achieve a sustainable competitive advantage through their
merchandise offerings by having exclusively merchandise and use its distribution system to respond
quickly to meet the target market segment. One good example is how retailers positioning
themselves to complement their private label merchandise with national brands that appeal to their
target market in order to gain long–term competitive advantage. In order to develop loyal customers,
retailers must offer a consistent retail mix. For example, a department store is projecting its image of

Improving Healthy Development And Maintaining Strong...
Introduction
"Play is so important to optimal child development that it has been recognized by the United
Nations High Commission for Human Rights" (Ginsburg, 2007, p 182). There is no opposing
argument to the statement that play is essential to children and youth in all domains of development.
Although certain types of play may be more meaningful in terms of development, any kind of play
is better than no play at all. "The Importance of Play in Promoting Healthy Child Development and
Maintaining Strong Parent–Child Bonds" examines and reflects on Ginsburg's research on the
importance of play during childhood development and guidelines for pediatricians on how to
advocate for children in terms of protected play and a balanced lifestyle during development. In this
journal, I found why play is beneficial, the consequences of reduced play, and the factors in the
ever–changing routine of childhood, why this change is a problem, the effect this change has on
many families, and some proposed solutions, as well as advice on how to promote healthy
development and growth through play.
Summary of Article "The Importance of Play in Promoting Healthy child Development and
Maintaining Strong Parent–child Bonds" is a clinical report published for the guidance of pediatric
care. The article focuses on the benefits of play, the repercussions or reduced play, the factors of
change in play, why this change is relevant, the effect is has on family, proposed solutions, and

Deer Park Elementary School Budget Analysis
The importance of a budget is critical to operate the school. However, the budget is based on the
types of programs that the school has been acknowledged to offer. Deer Park Elementary school
offers several programs under the federal government, however, the Targeted Assistance Program
has been the program identified in this paper as the priority program to review. Collaboration
strategies promote multiple perspectives from various stakeholders to view different aspects of
components involved. Therefore, it is significant that leadership is strong and involves collaboration
to handle funds strategically within a budget. This paper gives an overview of collaboration
strategies collected, analyzed, and interpreted that conveys multiple perspectives from four
stakeholder groups on both the sufficiency and efficiency of funds concerning the budget of the
Targeted Assistance Program at Deer Park Elementary. The Title I Targeted Assistance Program
identified as the priority program for Deer Park Elementary School was chosen based on the
program's importance to the school. This program establishes funds to sixty identified students

The Effects Of Trauma On Children And Adolescents
Introduction Trauma has caused hospitalized pediatric patients to become uneasy and anxious with
no additional support. Thus, Child Life Services (CLS) is being proposed to Highland Hospital, as it
does not currently offer any therapeutic consultations to pediatric patients and families to help ease
traumatic feelings. CLS essentially provide a variety of different therapeutic programs to distract
hospitalized children from pain, stress and being traumatized after medical procedures.
Problem Statement
In the United States, more than 3 million children and adolescents experience some type of
traumatic events (Schwarz E.D., Perry B.D., 1994). Such events may involve violence in home,
school or street, death or hospital stays and medical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The implementation of CLS in Highland hospital will solely base on a philosophy to ensure that all
pediatric patients and their families receive the best care and support, regardless of how long the
duration of stay is. Some of the programs provided would include pre– and post–procedure
preparation consultations with the usages of developmentally appropriate medical play and activities
to display a better understanding of and how to cope with medical procedures, and to overall reduce
traumatic feelings. CLS currently provides certain hours of age appropriate playroom for all
hospitalized children and siblings with no requirement of adult family members. The playroom
allows supportive play and social interaction with different activities and entertainments to ease
stress. However, this proposed CLS would instead include a 24–hour playroom/daycare for siblings
of the patient. With this, siblings will be taken care of during the duration the family is in the
hospital and when parents are with the patient in medical procedures or clinical visits. In addition, a
big brother/big sister program would be implemented as part of CLS at Highland Hospital. This
program will involve assigned trained volunteers to patients, as they keep the patients entertained in
their hospital rooms and assist and guide them during the times the child is not in any procedures.
With this one–on–one program, it will provide a distraction for the patients

Skateboarding Persuasive Essay
The argument is flawed for numerous reasons. Primarily, the argument is based on an unwarranted
assumption that increase in skateboarding is the only reason for decrease in number of shoppers
over past two years in Central Plaza. In the argument, it is mentioned that many store owners
believe that skateboarding is the reason, but there is no certain number or percentage of how many
people believe is provided for this assumption. This would have been a more compelling reason if
the numbers are provided like say all business owners or 98 out of 100 etc. An approriate survey
should have been carried out to understand why there is decrease in number of customers, what
percentage of owners believe skateboarding is the reason and what are the factors

What Walker And Avant ( 2016 ) Outlined Essay
The following concept analysis is formulated to follow an abbreviated version of what Walker and
Avant (2016) outlined. Select a Concept The concept of "Pediatric Adaptation to Hospitalization"
has been a topic talked about since the early sixties, if not before. When a child is hospitalized they
experience a wide variety of emotional stressors. Separation from family, stress, isolation, anxiety,
depression, fear, unfamiliar surroundings, normal routine interruption, lack of understanding ("why
do I feel this way", "why is this happening to me"), pain, and continuous stranger interaction are a
few of the feelings and emotions that children experience during hospitalization. Langford (1961)
stated "This increased body of knowledge about the emotional effects of illness and hospitalization
has been reflected in changes in the practices of many pediatric hospitals and services in order to
lessen the psychological hazards to their child patients". Although the topic has been discussed, a
true definition has not been formulated. Positive adaptation will foster healing, increased comfort,
less stress, and an overall increased psychosocial wellbeing. On the other hand, negative adaptation
will prolong healing, increase pain levels, foster acting out behaviors, and increase stress which in
turn effects the immune system. "The ways in which a child handles these stresses and the anxiety
and tension provoked by them have been found to be related to a number of factors: the

Changing the Target Audience in Retail Sales
"On average, middle–aged consumers devote 39 percent of their retail expenditure to department
store products and services, while for younger consumers the average is only 25 percent. Since the
number of middle–aged people will increase dramatically within the next decade, department stores
can expect retail sales to increase significantly during that period. Furthermore, to take advantage of
the trend, these stores should begin to replace some of those products intended to attract the younger
consumer with products intended to attract the middle–aged consumer." Essay 1: The argument that
department retail sales will increase in the next 10 years and thus department stores should begin to
replace products to attract middle–aged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, the argument might have been strengthened by making it clear that the business volumes
of both types of consumers are the same and comparable, that the increase of a certain type of
consumers are correlated with the increase of the retail sales, and that the growth rate of the younger
consumers are the same as that of the middle–aged consumers. Essay 3: Based on an expected
increase in the number of middle–aged people during the next decade, the author predicts that retail
sales at department stores will increase significantly over the next ten years. To bolster this
prediction, the author cites statistics showing that middle–aged people devote a much higher
percentage of their retail expenditure to department–store services and products than younger
consumers do. Since the number of middle–aged consumers is on the rise and since they spend more
than younger people on department–store goods and services, the author further recommends that
department stores begin to adjust their inventories to capitalize on this trend. Specifically, it is
recommended that department stores increase their inventory of products aimed at middle–aged
consumers and decrease their inventory of products aimed at younger consumers. This argument is
problematic for two reasons. First, an increase in the number of middle–aged people does not

Comparing Nurses Practitioners And Clinical Nurse Roles
Comparing and Contrasting Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist Roles The role of the
advanced practice nurse has evolved immensely over the years, so why not take a stand and
continue your education to become one of the four advanced practice nurses? Transitioning to an
advanced practice nurse role requires a master's degree and some experience as a registered nurse in
order to have the background to propel forward in this career. Advanced practice nurses are
comprised of nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse anesthetists, and nurse midwives
who are often primary care providers and provide comprehensive care to patients. Out of the four
advanced practice nurse roles, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists have both been
providing care to patients since the 1960s. They both have many similarities and differences, and
strengths and limitations of practicing in these specialized roles.
Description of Each Role
Nurse Practitioner Nurse practitioners have been practicing and providing care to patients for
decades. They are often at the forefront of providing care alongside physicians. They are quickly
becoming the primary provider choice for many patients in a world where there is a shortage of
good and accessible primary care providers. As health care providers, they have prescriptive
authority to diagnose, treat, and evaluate patients. Besides being health care providers, nurse

The Mental Health Status Of Elderly Patients
During my clinical rotations I have had numerous oppurtunities to asses the mental health status of
elderly patients. The majority of the mental health assessements that I conducted were in accordance
with the Medicare annual wellness assessment. The Medicare annual wellness is apart of the
Afforable Care Act program aimed towards improving, preventing and managing the healthcare of
patients.
According to Hains (2014),
"The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (Affordable Care Act) includes many
provisions aimed at improving the health of Americans and preventing the onset of chronic
conditions. The Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) is a part of the Affordable Care Act specifically
targeting older adults (age 65 and older). In 2011, Medicare beneficiaries became eligible for an
AWV, which includes a health risk assessment (HRA) and a customized wellness or personal
prevention plan. This AWV supplements the "welcome to Medicare" preventive visit, which is a
one–time, comprehensive health assessment offered to beneficiaries within the first 12 months of
enrolling in Medicare. Medicare pays for one first AWV per beneficiary and subsequent visits on an
annual basis. The AWV can be provided by a physician, nurse practitioner (NP), clinical nurse
specialist, or physician assistant and should include, at the very least, a history and physical,
preventive screening, and personalized health planning. The law specifies that HRA guidelines will

Clinical Nurse Specialist And Nurse Practitioner Role...
Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Practitioner Role Delineation
Sarah Carr
University of Regina
Abstract
Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are both considered advanced
practice nurses (APNs) in Canada (Donald et al., 2010). Although these roles have existed in
Canada for decades (Canadian Nurses Association, 2008), confusion still remains about the titles
and exact roles that these professionals play (Donald et al., 2010). This paper will use the
Saskatchewan Nursing Advanced Practice model as a framework to highlight the similarities and
differences between both types of advanced practice nurse. The scope of practice, registration,
education, practice settings, and effectiveness of CNSs and NPs will be examined. Although their
roles overlap, CNSs and NPs have both been shown to be important members of the health care
team (DiCenso & Bryant–Lukosius, 2010). Research has shown that adding CNSs and NPs to our
health care system can increase patient satisfaction, decrease wait times, and decrease readmissions
(DiCenso & Bryant–Lukosius, 2010). Increased public and health care professional awareness is
needed to have these roles fully incorporated into our current health care system (DiCenso &
Bryant–Lukosius, 2010).
Clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) are both critical members of the
health care team. However, there is often confusion about the titles and roles of

Different Types Of Therapy For Me
Just by walking into the occupational therapy clinic, I know I am changing lives. When I can make
children happy by simply offering a toy or a pleasant smile, while inside they may be struggling, I
know I chose the right career to pursue. Therapy of all types is rewarding. Nothing compares to the
feeling you get when you see someone improving and you know you had a hand in that
improvement. But occupational therapy transcends all other types of therapy for me because it
involves helping people on a more emotional and psychological level. Being able to volunteer and
observe occupational therapists at work showed me children who were often not able to complete
daily tasks. Seeing the children struggle with their fears and issues was extremely difficult, but
watching them slowly improve and gain confidence week after week was beyond rewarding. They
are not only able to find the strength to overcome their problems with each session, they are able to
adapt a more normal life, which is something I believe everyone should have a chance at. Choosing
OT was not a quick or easy decision for me. My first job was teaching swimming lessons to kids at
a local fitness facility and I knew after working there for several years that I wanted to work with
children in some way. My degree in psychology steered me toward the work of Child Life
Specialists, who would comfort and help in–patient children and their families at hospitals. Wanting

A Reflection On My Experience With Grief And Bereavement...
On April 6, 2016, I shadowed Megan in 7C and PICU, which was an eventful day full of thought–
provoking and noteworthy patient interactions and child life centered conversations. This was my
second time in 7C/PICU but my first time shadowing Megan. It was intriguing to see how two
different CCLS's handled the same units. Through my shadowing experience and observations, I
gained knowledge of how to handle grief/bereavement situations, how to properly prioritize
patients, charting techniques, and much more. This week I was able to reflect back to my knowledge
of development so that I could better relate our coursework to my practicum experiences. In this
journal, I will focus on two main patient interactions, both, which were unique, thought provoking,
and relatable to developmental theory and coursework. I will also briefly discuss the knowledge I
gained on how a CCLS can provide support during grief and bereavement situations.
The first interaction I observed/participated in was with an 8–year–old male in the PICU who was
coping with injuries from a major automobile accident and lice. Megan and I entered the room
where the patient was playing with a remote control car. His nurse had created a 'racetrack' out of
toys and items in his hospital room. It was refreshing to see a nurse who valued play enough to take
the time to create a playful environment for her patient. Megan swiftly built rapport, explained her
role, and offered normative play opportunities. The patient was

I Am Working With A Family

  • 1. I Am Working With A Family Question 1: In this scenario, I am working with a family in the hospital setting. The patient is a 7 year–old male who is hospitalized due to complications with cystic fibrosis and also has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome. Present in the family structure is the patient and both biological parents, who are college graduates and have substantial employment. From my previous observations, I am aware that the patient enjoys positive attention, such as praise, nonverbal attention, playing games, or reading books, from adults, but also frequently displays non–compliance with requests from adults. Another important observation to note is that the patient is only able to follow simple 1 and 2–step commands and cannot speak in full sentences. In the healthcare setting, there are many experiences that may lead to problematic behaviors in children, but in a situation where a child also has a developmental disability these problematic behaviors can be more intense and more difficult to tame. An antecedent is what happens immediately before a problematic behavior, such as a demand, transition, time of day, specific request being denied, and so forth. An antecedent that might lead to problematic behavior in the hospital for this particular child could be seen in the following example; the nursing staff entered the patient's room to start an IV without assessing developmental age/abilities and gave the patient a 3– step command to keep his arm still, not wiggle his body, and listen or talk to ... • 2. Reflective Essay : Reflective Summary y K Reflective Summary of Role Play May 17, 2012 1140 Words 5 Pages As a student, in the beginning of my professional career, writing reflection seems a sensible idea to record learning experience. The early stages of any career would play important role in learning as one settles into the ways of profession. The complex part is recognizing such experience and implementing on practice. In this reflection, I will be discussing about the role play we have had last week in our classroom. Gibbs (1998) reflective cycle will be utilized as it illustrates a clear structure for the process of reflection which includes six main stages; description of the event, feelings, evaluation, description (analysis to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We finally prepared by ourselves and had little rehearsal on the same day of interview. Feelings: During role play, I was appointed to be the interviewee. Initially, I was a bit hesitant to take up the role since I believe that the interviewee has the main role in interview to influence the evaluator. I was bit nervous and panic as I did not have enough rehearsal. Norcross & Sayette (2011, P.105) mentioned that "as with anything else in the application process the more you prepare the more confident and less nervous you will feel". On the other hand, as we all have individual characteristics and way of thinking, it was challenging for me to communicate effectively with my partner and reach on conclusion which made me feel frustrated in some extent. During presentation, despite my frequent mental reminders, I guess my nervousness got the better of me and I ended up with short answers. Evaluation: Since I have had very few rehearsals and experience of real interview, I believed that it was well done despite some shortcomings. The questions were relevant to the position interviewed for however; there was lack of analysis of the answers at a professional standard. As an interviewee, although I spoke fluently in general, the perfectionist in me was not happy that there were few occasion when I stumbled over my words and had to pause to recall my answers. On the other hand, interviewer was encouraging and made me feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Child Life Specialist Research Paper Child life specialists play an increasingly important role in health care by helping children and families cope and adjust to the challenges of hospital visits. Although a child life specialist's contribution to the health care experience of children and families can vary, their primary goal is to support the emotional needs of children with the aim of helping them understand the hospital environment. Secondly, child life specialists can help to provide positive play therapy experiences for children to help reduce anxiety and fear. Additionally, they can help prepare children for surgery or medical procedures by demonstrating and communicating what they will see, hear, feel, and/ or wear. Child life specialists can also provide age appropriate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also obtained my Early Childhood Education Certification from Niagara College. I have learned that with appropriate accommodations and a dedication to creating an optimal environment, any child can be provided the opportunity to overcome personal obstacles and challenges. Although my experiences have primarily been in the school setting, I believe the knowledge and skills I have gained will benefit me when supporting children and their families in a hospital setting. I have learned through my experiences in the classrooms that every child is unique. My education has taught me that the planning and implementation of strategies, activities, and programs must be tailored to meet the needs of the child, building on their strengths. I possess a variety of qualities and characteristics that would allow me to be a child life specialist. The first attribute I bring to the profession is my love to work with children. In the classroom, I find it rewarding to watch children learn, grow, and develop and I believe that this love easily transfers to a hospital setting. • 4. Making Digital Outcomes And Specialists Work Better For You Draft title: Making Digital Outcomes and Specialists work better for you (Part 1) We 've been continuously improving Digital Outcomes and Specialists since it arrived on the Digital Marketplace in April. Our development team works in 2 week sprints. These are set periods during which specific work is completed. During each sprint, we work on new features and changes that are prioritised according to the user need and its impact. Because each sprint is only 2 weeks, it also means that we can take in new user feedback and reprioritise what we need to work on. There have been 5 sprints during the time that Digital Outcomes and Specialists has been available. We also opened G–Cloud 8 submissions and introduced an improved way to return signed framework agreements in this period. But, our main focus has been on identifying and solving any problems that our users have with Digital Outcomes and Specialists. We have identified and solved several user needs. These changes are now live on the Digital Marketplace. In our next post, we'll be updating you on some of the things we're currently working on to make Digital Outcomes and Specialists better. But first, we'd like to talk about some problems we found, and the ways we have solved them. • 7. Designing A Sustainable Competitive Advantage For... As a set of business activities that add value to goods and services sold to consumers, retailing involves key strategies in order to build a sustainable, competitive advantage for companies (Peterson & Balasubramanian, 2002). These strategies involve identifying a retailer's target market and satisfying those needs. Through observing the retail strategy used by the company T2, this essay will ascertain and analyse their retail mix in order to determine the competitive advantage T2 has and whether it is sustainable or not. Before T2 can be analysed in terms of the retailing strategy used, it must first be defined as a retail outlet. It is a speciality, store–based, franchise organisation (Reynolds et al., 2007) that was founded over 18 years ago by an interior designer named Maryanne Shearer (Shearer, The Making of T2, 2015). Beginning as a retail store in Fitzroy, Australia, it was seen as an opportunity to re–invent tea for the new generations to come; to make tea fashionable. T2 has expanded its reach to over 65 stores worldwide, including New Zealand. All of the T2 retail stores provide a sensory experience for the customers, allowing them to explore the immersive world of tea drinking (Shearer, Philosophy, 2015). T2's move over to New Zealand occurred in 2013, with the opening of the Queen Street store. This store will be analysed in terms of retail mix and strategies. • 11. The Canadian Retail Market Has A Complex And... The Canadian retail market has a complex and multidimensional history. Retail Nation: Department Stores and the Making of Modern Canada written by Donica Belisle, explores the journeys of major Canadian department stores such as Eaton's, Simpson's and HBC between the 1890's and 1940's. Specifically, she analyzes their development, morals and societal views from a feminist and paternalist perspective. These complex theories are coupled with both examples and clear explanations in order to gain a deep insight into the history of the Canadian retail market. In addition to a brief overview of the book, I will discuss the interest level, relevance, structure and potential bias within Belisle's work. Canada's department stores experienced significant success despite entering the retail market much after stores in Great Britain, France and the United States. After being established in the 1880's and 90's, they experienced rapid growth and eventually surpassed major international stores such as Macys, Fields and Wanamaker in sales and store size. This national market domination was far more prominent than anywhere elsewhere in the world (44). Their quick fortune was driven by the innovative use of catalogues and the opening of numerous branches during their heyday in the early 1900's. This put primarily Eaton's, but also Simpson's and HBC, in the spotlight as globally recognized Canadian department stores. These great retail stores had a momentous effect on the Canadian ... • 12. Scholarship Essay Examples While lying in a hospital bed, waiting for my twelfth surgery to begin, the nurse struggled to get my I.V. to work. She had tried numerous times without success and as I was about to cry, a kind woman came in, held my hand, taught me techniques to help calm down and helped get me a numbing shot. The nurse was then able to get the I.V. in on her next try! I was in awe of this angelic person whom I have since learned was a Child Life Specialist. I decided right then I wanted to be just like her. Service is important to me because it is a way I can "pay forward" all the help and compassion I have received. I was born with Bladder Exstrophy. Throughout the day, they arrange patient prescriptions and consult with patients. At times, CNSs make hospital stay arrangements and visit clients to check on their condition or encourage them before complex surgeries. Clinical nurse specialists also attend to client families by providing support and relaying patient status updates. I fully agree with Cliff Asness of AQR Capital, who wrote in a Wall Street op ed: "Making mountains out of molehills sells more books than a study of molehills." That is more or less what happened here. Lewis wanted to sell a lot of books. He wanted to capture "lightning in a bottle" (to use his own phrase). He captured irresponsible hyperbole instead. • 25. What Walker And Avant ( 2016 ) Outlined Essay The following concept analysis is formulated to follow an abbreviated version of what Walker and Avant (2016) outlined. Select a Concept The concept of "Pediatric Adaptation to Hospitalization" has been a topic talked about since the early sixties, if not before. When a child is hospitalized they experience a wide variety of emotional stressors. Separation from family, stress, isolation, anxiety, depression, fear, unfamiliar surroundings, normal routine interruption, lack of understanding ("why do I feel this way", "why is this happening to me"), pain, and continuous stranger interaction are a few of the feelings and emotions that children experience during hospitalization. Langford (1961) stated "This increased body of knowledge about the emotional effects of illness and hospitalization has been reflected in changes in the practices of many pediatric hospitals and services in order to lessen the psychological hazards to their child patients". Although the topic has been discussed, a true definition has not been formulated. Positive adaptation will foster healing, increased comfort, less stress, and an overall increased psychosocial wellbeing. On the other hand, negative adaptation will prolong healing, increase pain levels, foster acting out behaviors, and increase stress which in turn effects the immune system. "The ways in which a child handles these stresses and the anxiety and tension provoked by them have been found to be related to a number of factors: the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Mental Health Status Of Elderly Patients During my clinical rotations I have had numerous oppurtunities to asses the mental health status of elderly patients. The majority of the mental health assessements that I conducted were in accordance with the Medicare annual wellness assessment. The Medicare annual wellness is apart of the Afforable Care Act program aimed towards improving, preventing and managing the healthcare of patients. According to Hains (2014), "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (Affordable Care Act) includes many provisions aimed at improving the health of Americans and preventing the onset of chronic conditions. The Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) is a part of the Affordable Care Act specifically targeting older adults (age 65 and older). In 2011, Medicare beneficiaries became eligible for an AWV, which includes a health risk assessment (HRA) and a customized wellness or personal prevention plan. This AWV supplements the "welcome to Medicare" preventive visit, which is a one–time, comprehensive health assessment offered to beneficiaries within the first 12 months of enrolling in Medicare. Medicare pays for one first AWV per beneficiary and subsequent visits on an annual basis. The AWV can be provided by a physician, nurse practitioner (NP), clinical nurse specialist, or physician assistant and should include, at the very least, a history and physical, preventive screening, and personalized health planning. The law specifies that HRA guidelines will identify chronic disease(s), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Clinical Nurse Specialist And Nurse Practitioner Role... Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Practitioner Role Delineation Sarah Carr University of Regina Abstract Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are both considered advanced practice nurses (APNs) in Canada (Donald et al., 2010). Although these roles have existed in Canada for decades (Canadian Nurses Association, 2008), confusion still remains about the titles and exact roles that these professionals play (Donald et al., 2010). This paper will use the Saskatchewan Nursing Advanced Practice model as a framework to highlight the similarities and differences between both types of advanced practice nurse. The scope of practice, registration, education, practice settings, and effectiveness of CNSs and NPs will be examined. Although their roles overlap, CNSs and NPs have both been shown to be important members of the health care team (DiCenso & Bryant–Lukosius, 2010). Research has shown that adding CNSs and NPs to our health care system can increase patient satisfaction, decrease wait times, and decrease readmissions (DiCenso & Bryant–Lukosius, 2010). Increased public and health care professional awareness is needed to have these roles fully incorporated into our current health care system (DiCenso & Bryant–Lukosius, 2010). Clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) are both critical members of the health care team. However, there is often confusion about the titles and roles of ... • 38. Different Types Of Therapy For Me Just by walking into the occupational therapy clinic, I know I am changing lives. When I can make children happy by simply offering a toy or a pleasant smile, while inside they may be struggling, I know I chose the right career to pursue. Therapy of all types is rewarding. Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you see someone improving and you know you had a hand in that improvement. But occupational therapy transcends all other types of therapy for me because it involves helping people on a more emotional and psychological level. Being able to volunteer and observe occupational therapists at work showed me children who were often not able to complete daily tasks. Seeing the children struggle with their fears and issues was extremely difficult, but watching them slowly improve and gain confidence week after week was beyond rewarding. They are not only able to find the strength to overcome their problems with each session, they are able to adapt a more normal life, which is something I believe everyone should have a chance at. Choosing OT was not a quick or easy decision for me. My first job was teaching swimming lessons to kids at a local fitness facility and I knew after working there for several years that I wanted to work with children in some way. My degree in psychology steered me toward the work of Child Life Specialists, who would comfort and help in–patient children and their families at hospitals. Wanting to find out more about the career, I signed up for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Department Stores Department Stores are Struggling! Ashley Pearson FYS: History of Providence Professor Hughes December 17, 2012 In 2012 department stores in Providence are struggling. When one takes a drive through Providence the main retail stores are in the Providence Place Mall. From an outsider's point of view it doesn't look like these stores are struggling. After all, everyone in Providence knows where this tremendous mall is. What people do not know is that in reality they are headed downhill. These stores are department stores. A department store is a large retail store carrying a wide variety of merchandise and organized into various departments for sales and administrative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By 1986, the ultimate fate of the Big O was decided by a grand fire.[15] Afterwards, Johnson and Wales University soon cleared the site and its built dorms in the Big O's place. If you drive down Weybosset Street today you will still be able to see the tremendous clock tower that was once owned by The Outlet. The Shepards department store was another department store that rose and fell in Providence's earlier years. Shepards was the department store that was the biggest rival to The Outlet. It opened in 1880 at the corner of Westminster and Clemence Streets. According to Midge Frazel, customers could shop and have your purchases sent by delivery truck to your home if you lived near the city.[16] This would create an easy and affordable way to get the items you needed, especially if you needed a bunch of items! Shepards was also one of the three department stores that were connected by the Tri–Strore Bridge. This bridge connected Gladding, Shepards and Cherry & Webb. The bridge was built shortly before 1900.[17] The bridge encouraged people to not only go to one of the stores, but all three. So, if you liked one store you were apt to go to try the other by just walking through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. A Reflection On My Experience With Grief And Bereavement... On April 6, 2016, I shadowed Megan in 7C and PICU, which was an eventful day full of thought– provoking and noteworthy patient interactions and child life centered conversations. This was my second time in 7C/PICU but my first time shadowing Megan. It was intriguing to see how two different CCLS's handled the same units. Through my shadowing experience and observations, I gained knowledge of how to handle grief/bereavement situations, how to properly prioritize patients, charting techniques, and much more. This week I was able to reflect back to my knowledge of development so that I could better relate our coursework to my practicum experiences. In this journal, I will focus on two main patient interactions, both, which were unique, thought provoking, and relatable to developmental theory and coursework. I will also briefly discuss the knowledge I gained on how a CCLS can provide support during grief and bereavement situations. The first interaction I observed/participated in was with an 8–year–old male in the PICU who was coping with injuries from a major automobile accident and lice. Megan and I entered the room where the patient was playing with a remote control car. His nurse had created a 'racetrack' out of toys and items in his hospital room. It was refreshing to see a nurse who valued play enough to take the time to create a playful environment for her patient. Megan swiftly built rapport, explained her role, and offered normative play opportunities. The patient was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
