![Injury Performance INJURY THS WEEK Health, Safety and Environment 14 SIMS awaiting Managers Comments Weekly Safety Review Issue Date : 5 / 7 / 2011 1 First Aid Injury An employee cut the palm of his hand on the sharp edge of lagging cladding. He was not wearing gloves at the time. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) The “Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at Work Regulations 1992”updated ‘05 The Regulations require PPE (e.g. safety helmet, gloves, eye protection, safety shoes/boots and high-visibility clothing) to be supplied and used at work wherever there are risks to workers' health and safety that cannot be adequately controlled in other ways. “Hazard” e.g. Noise Chemical Sharp edge If a Hazard is identified, then Control Measures should be used to prevent exposure which could cause harm “Protective Measures” PPE Last line of defence Will only work if the right type is used, and in good condition Can only work if you wear it “Control Measures” e.g. Remove Reduce Contain Inform If the Hazard can not be Controlled, then use Protective Measures This week …… Hazard – general (edges/impact/etc.) Control – Induction and rules (not followed) Protection – All the required PPE was not worn (shorts & T shirt - delivery drivers) Hazard - sharp edge - cut hand Control – sharp edge could have been removed or covered Protective – gloves not used Recently ….. ,[object Object]](https://image.slidesharecdn.com/572011safetyreview-13098733057737-phpapp01-110705084722-phpapp01/85/5-7-2011-Safety-Review-1-320.jpg)
