Power electronics belongs partly to power engineers & partly to electronic
engineers.

4. Power Electronics Power Electronics is the art of converting electrical energy from one form to
another in an efficient, clean, compact, and robust manner for convenient
utilization.
 Power electronic converters can be found wherever there is a need to
modify a form of electrical energy. The power range of these converters is
from some milliwatts to hundreds of megawatts.
 Power electronics is a subject that deals with the apparatus & equipment on
working on the principle of electronics but rated at power level rather than
signal level.
 Power conversion systems can be classified according to the type of input
& output power:
- AC to DC ( rectifier )
-DC to AC ( inverter )
-DC to DC ( DC to DC converter )
-AC to AC ( AC to AC converter )
