3. Introduction
LPG is an essential fuel in our daily life. In these modern days, LPG gas is used in
every kitchen for cooking, as well as it’s used in different industries and factories.
While it is a very useful burning fuel, but it is a highly explosive gas. Normally LPG
gas is available in a cylinder. The LPG gas is heavier than air, when it leaks from a
cylinder it flows along the floor and it can happen an explosion and cause fire
accidents. So, in this project, we will build the LPG Gas Leakage Detector system,
that can detect LPG gas and alert us through Sounds and Light indicator. It can
save us from a big explosion or fire accident.
This simple project is based on the detection of leakage of this volatile gas so that
the hazardous accidents can be prevailed with the help of this simple device.
4. BREADBOARD
A bread board is a device for testing temporary electronics
project. Components used to test a circuit can be reused for
other projects. None of the components are damaged,
except if not properly.
Almost all people start to learn electronics using
breadboard because it is the simplest way of making
circuits. The photography shows atypical small
breadboard which is suitable for beginners simple circuits
with one or two Ics.
5. BATTERY
A battery is an electrochemical cell (or enclosed and
protected material) that can be charged electrically to
provide a static potential for power or released electrical
charge when needed.
6. Transistor
A BC557 transistor is a positive-negative-
positive (PNP) transistor that is used for
many purposes together with other
electronic components, such as resistors,
coils, and capacitors.
7. SENSOR
Sensors are those electronic devices which provides
o/p signal for the purpose of sensing a physical
phenomenon . Here we are using MQ6 sensor which is
suitable for sensing the LPG , iso-butane, propane etc.
8. 555 TIMER IC
Integrated circuits are made up of several
components such as R, C, L, diodes and
transistors. They are built on a small single
block or chip of a semiconductor known as
an integrated circuit (IC). All of them work
together to perform a particular task
The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit
(chip) used in a variety of timer, delay, pulse
generation, and oscillator applications
9. Mini Buzzer
An electrical device, similar to a bell that
makes a buzzing noise and is used to
signal.
10. LED
A light-emitting diode is a two-lead semiconductor
light source. It is a p–n junction diode that emits
light when activated. When a suitable voltage is
applied to the leads, electrons are able to
recombine with electron holes within the device,
releasing energy in the form of photons.
11. Resistor
A resistor is an electrical component that
limits or regulates the flow of electrical
current in an electronic circuit. Resistors can
also be used to provide a specific voltage for
an active device such as a transistor.
13. WORKING
When we will turn on the circuit power supply between 5v to 12v, then the
7805 voltage regulator IC converts the input voltage into 5v output. Because
MQ6 Gas Sensor Module operates on 5v input voltage. The MQ6 gas sensor
module can sense LPG. Here the 555 timer IC configured in monostable
mode, so when it gets a LOW (Ground) trigger pulse at its trigger pin, then
the IC OUTPUT becomes High.
After turn on the power supply MQ6 gas sensor start sensing LPG gas is
present in the air or not. If LPG gas leaks from a cylinder then the MQ6 gas
sensor detects it and provides LOW (Ground/0v) output voltage from the “D0”
pin. This output voltage goes to the Base terminal of the BC557 Transistor and
the transistor becomes active. Now it starts conducting and the 555 timer ic
trigger pin (IC pin 2) connects to the ground. Then the IC produces High out
from Pin 3. This output voltage goes to the LED and Buzzer. Then the LED
starts glowing and the buzzer generates Sound.
14. APPLICATIONS
The leakage can be detected through by using a LPG leakage detector , which will
help to prevent accidents. The motive of this project is to prevent the accidents by
detecting the leakage of LPG gas . This project can be easily installed in the
kitchen where the cooking cylinder is placed , even at some distance as
being a good sensor MQ6 detects the LPG gas very efficiently and alarms
us when it detects a leakage of gas.
15. ADVANTAGES:
1.User friendly: we can edit the code whenever we want to change tone of the button.
2.efficiency:it uses less power of only 5v.
3.portable: it is very small to carry wherever you go
4.Future Enhancement: This technology could be further modified and more upgraded as per
individual need and interest. We have discussed some basic ideas of this technology. And
depending on innovative applications user can upgrade as per requirement.

Disadvantages:
1.Circuit can be made on PCB rather than on bread board.
2.As the source used for supply is small battery it has to be replaced frequently.
