4th evaluation question
1. HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
2. • In our media project this year we used a range of different softwares, formats and
pieces of equipment to help us produce this overall project including all aspects of it
from the research to this Evaluation. The format we had to put everything on to was
‘WIX’ which allows you to create your own website. We created our own account
and made a website to display all our research, planning, construction and
evaluation. This was much different from last year as we had to store all of our work
on to ‘Fronter’ which is not as advanced and complimentary to some of the
presentation techniques as WIX. So WIX was a massive improvement from last year
in terms of presenting our work using a different type of technology. We were also
able to design our website in a way that was expressing our film, through the
display by using images, backgrounds and other features like pictures that make the
website look more intriguing and interesting. I set the background of our website to
a dark cloudy effect so it would relate to our scene at the abandoned building, as
this was where the disequilibrium occurred and so would be a scene that viewers
recognise and can relate back to.
3. • When it came to filming I did a lot of the camera work as I take photography at A-level so
know how to work a camera the best in my group. Therefore it was decided at the beginning
that I would do most of the filming and hand held camera work. In photography you learn
about how to use camera to create different shots and angles that show different effects, so
immediately I was able to use my knowledge in that department and bring it over to my
media work. For example, when filming I would know when to use a high angle to make
someone look inferior and a low angles to make someone look superior. Also I would know
when and how to zoom in on someones face while keeping the shot in focus to capture
someone's facial expression. These are elements of the camera I already have experience in
and so helped my group a lot when it came to the production stage as we didn’t have to
spend time learning how to use it. Lois (member of my group) would direct during filming as
she knew how she wanted our actors to act and portray themselves as their characters. Kajal
(member of my group) would control the extra lights we would use and Toni-Ann (member
of my group) would control the scene to make sure everything was positioned right and all
the props were in place for the characters. All in all we would make a good unit for our
production Stage and managed to assign everyone to a roll they would suit. So as I was best
suited to the camera based work, I conducted the technological side of production
4. • Photoshop was the software that my group used to create our ancillary task and as
we all had experience of producing a music magazine last year using Photoshop, we
all knew how to make a film magazine and poster for our trailer. In my experience in
photography, I have learnt a variation of techniques that can be done to still images
on Photoshop so I came up with the idea that we should use a technique called
double exposure which is defined as the repeated exposure of a photographic plate
or film to light, often producing ghost images. So as our character Eve is suffering
by psychosis I thought it would be a smart idea to include something in the image
of our film magazine that portrays that. So using Photoshop I used certain tools and
features that allowed me to place two separate photos I had taken of ‘Eve’ on top of
each other. I then lowered the opacity on the photo of her looking up and merged
them together. This leaving you with a really serial image that looks like she has two
personality which links back to the point about ‘Eve’ being the protagonist and the
antagonist.
5. • Lastly, all our research and planning was not just placed in to our WIX website as
text, we had to make our research and planning look presentable and so I looked in
to different presentation techniques that could be useful as a way of presenting my
work. I used basic formats like g slide share to present my production management
in my proposal document and more advanced forms of presentations like EMAZE
which allows you present your text and images in a more eye catching way. These
different media platforms were used to show our creativity in our work and a chance
for us to show our own initiative by looking in to different ways of presentencing
our work that we haven’t already been provided with through school.
