Transducers convert one form of energy into another such as electrical, mechanical, electromagnetic, chemical, acoustic or thermal energy. A pressure transducer specifically converts pressure into an electrical signal through the physical deformation of strain gages bonded to a diaphragm inside the transducer. When pressure is applied, the diaphragm deflects and introduces strain to the gages, changing their electrical resistance in proportion to the measured pressure. There are several styles of pressure transducers including PC board mountable, general purpose, heavy duty/industrial, and flush diaphragm types.
