Industry
•India is among the world's top 15 global media
and entertainment markets; for a country with
the world's largest newspaper market, second-
largest telecommunications market, third-
largest television market and second-largest
Facebook community .
•India is already the biggest newspaper market in
the world - over 100 million copies sold each
day. it has more than 70,000 newspapers and
over 500 satellite channels in several languages,
of which more than 80 are news channels.
• India owns one of the six largest space
agencnies in the world, which is
Indian Space Research Organization,
formed in 1969, ISRO maintains one
of the largest fleet of communication
satellites (INSAT) and remote sensing
(IRS) satellites, that cater to the ever
growing demand for fast and reliable
communication and broadcasts .
•ISRO is run by the Department of
Space of the Indian government
and stands in line with the other
leaders of space research and
development such as NASA, RKA,
ESA, CNSA and JAXA
Media management in India:
• Media and Entertainment in India are supervised by
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting which
represents the face of the government in reaching out
to the masses.
• The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is
functionally organized into three wings; information
wing, broadcasting wing and Films wing.
• The three Wings in the ministry are assisted and
supported in its activities by 11 Attached and
Subordinate Offices, 5 Autonomous Organizations, 2
Statutory Bodies and 2 Public Sector Undertakings.
Indian media in detail:
•Television:
-Television is one of the media
segments that define the contour,
body and tastes of the Indian
market, It at 36 percent of the total
media and entertainment revenues.
-It controls decides and shaped the course of
several other sub-segments-music, films, sports,
software production and an arrary of distribution
businesses such as cable or DTH (Direct-To-
Home)- that rely on television content to sell
their services
- There are five players in India dominate the TV
entertainment business: Star, Zee, Sony, Sun, and
Viacom.
•Print:
•The domestic journalism in India,
particularly early on, was strongly
influenced by British ideals of neutral news
reporting, that a large share of all news
media are independent of state control.
•The print industry accounted for the
second largest share of the --Indian Media
and entertainment, with a CAGR of 7% till
2020.
•Film
- The Indian film industry is largest producer of
films globally with 400 production and corporate
houses involved in film production.
- India has Co-production treaties with various
countries such as Italy, Brazil, UK and Germany
to increase the export potential of the film
industry.
- The Indian film industry is dominated by
Bollywood, contributing 43% of the revenue
while regional and international films contribute
the remaining 50% and 7% respectively.
•Radio
-In 2015, 243 channels are operational in 86
cities. Further, 21 private FM channels were set
up during first Phase and an additional 222
channels were set up during second Phase.
-Private operators allowed to own multiple
channels in a city, subject to a limit of 40% of
total channels in the city.
- Success of radio is attributed to its localized
reach
•Digital industry & social media
-India is the second largest country using internet
in the world.
-Social media networking properties (apps/sites)
comes second only to “search” as the most
favored activity of smart phone users in India.
- Facebook is the leading social network. twitter
is used by celebrities, journalists and politicians.
These are the most famous global digital
platforms:
And these are digital platforms which are
made by Indians:
•VFX and animations
-VFX(Visual Effects) and animations is becoming
integral part of Indian film making.
- The government has carved out a National Film
Policy to tap the potential of the film sector
mainly for the animation segment .
- The government of India has agreed to set up
the National Centre of Excellence for Animation,
Gaming, Visual Effects and Comics industry in
Mumbai.
We can benefit from the above as follows:
•Government should establish an organization or council
who responsibles for a new media such as social media,
social network and online radio, press and cinema; this is
to coordinate the work and set laws.
•Develop the animation & VFX (Visual Effects) industry,
because animation industry is an important aspect of
film production cannot be overlooked.
•Pay attention to film production generally and participate
in the global film industry.
•Trying to spread Egyptian culture and influence the
world through Egyptian media production.
