2. Who’s blog did I choose?
The blog that I decided to analyse is
Ellie Zambakides’. This is because of
the overall look of this blog appeared to
be organised and easy to navigate
around, with the different categories on
the right hand side of the blog. Because
of the amount posts that there are, it
seems that a lot of work had been
completed throughout the course, and
there would be a lot to talk about, also
because of how creative these posts are
because of the range of presentation
methods. After looking at her blog and
her magazine, I thought that this is the
kind of result that I will be aiming for
myself, so this is a good blog to look at
for inspiration.
3. Planning and Research
and completed a lot of research and planning for her magazine,
considering that the large majority of these posts where created
before the making of the magazine itself. The fact that there has
been a lot of thought into the process before creating the final
product, would explain why I believe her final product has turned
out very professional and successful.
Having a wide variety of presentation methods on a blog creates a
more interesting, interactive platform, also making it more
attractive and eye catching. This is makes her blog creative and
fascinating, and it is obvious that a lot of work has been put into it.
The platforms she has used to present her work consist of creating
videos on YouTube, having surveys, using voki, emaze, prezi,
word and powerpoint. I think Ellie’s blog is successful because of
this range of media she has used, making it more visual and not
so boring, not having to read paragraph after paragraph.
Her posts are generally very detailed and descriptive, showing that a
lot of time is put into her work. Her production logs are well explained,
showing her progress throughout the course as she completed the
tasks, but I particularly love the little extra posts that were not
necessary but added to her blog, showing how she completed her
magazine in further detail. An example of this would be the time-lapse
created when she completed her magazine photoshoot, showing the
process of it all and how she created the images she used, and this
video also adds to the amount of media that she has on her blog.
Ellie has chosen to have different
categories to organise her work on
her blog, but it also makes it
easier for the audience to find
specific documents, making her
blog neat and tidy.
She has a large number of blog
posts, having 50 posts in total,
suggesting that she has created a
lot of work and
This is a section of Ellie’s planning where she has
used maze to put together a presentation on her
general audience. This is interactive and
interesting, being visual and creative too.
4. Ellie has put together a product that consists of 9 pages, having a front cover,
contents page, a double page of a full bleed image of the main artist, then a
feature article across two double pages. The simplicity of this magazine
makes it look professional, not crowded or busy.
It is clear who the main artist is, as this singer is featured in larger images
across the whole magazine, empathising her importance and how she is the
key artist. A punk rock vibe is
Final Magazine
created through the images of the other artists in the contents page, having a black background and the
models are in typical punk rock positions. However, it is not completely obvious what the house style is
throughout as the double page spreads as the main artist’s images are quite bright with a light
background, not having that typical punk look. However, the singer is holding an electric guitar to display
that the music they create is quite rocky and loud. This edgy vibe is also displayed through the messy
black clothes worn with the violent rips in her jeans and the sad, emotionless straight face pulled,
reflecting on their music.
There is an obvious, consistent style running throughout, as Ellie has chosen a simple red colour scheme
but stands out, being a bold, classic colour. This results in a professional feel, the same font and style of
images has been used, creating a similar mood on each page.
Photography is an important area to get right when producing a magazine if you want to result in a
professional looking product. This is because it is what attracts the audience first, making people
consider buying the issue as the bright colours or the direct address from the artists on the front cover,
draw in the audience. Because the images are great quality and there is a wide variety of images, Ellie
has produced successful photos in my opinion, as they are similar images to what you would see in a
popular magazine. She has replicated poses that are seen in bigger magazines to create a similar effect.
