Dimensions of Reflective Learning – Secundaria
Thinking Back
Secondary school was my biggest fear. The idea of being in front of a class of (pre-) teenagers was
terrifying! So, the goals for this last part of the practicum were was to, first, to face my fear –which
I have to say, I did –. Secondly, to keep working on both my strengths and weaknesses, and keep
improving towards becoming the teacher one day I hope to be.
I have to say, this experience was not as terrible as I expected to be. The group I worked with was
very nice and helped me in feeling comfortablefeel comfortable. They worked well and response
responded positively at the activities suggested and the lesson plans in general.
I think my group management, which was a weak point in both, kindergarten and primary,
improved. I felt I did not have to call for their attention all the time and things work rather
smoothly.
One thing, I do think I should keep working on is, the use of resources. I think I should use more
games, maybe look for magazines; just not falling into typical activities and resources. But, I think
that with time I will start gathering resources and stored them and have a variety of these to use.
Apart from everything, I am content with the experience. Of course, certain theoretical knowledge
was needed, regarding their psychological and pedagogical development, of example Piaget’s
stages of development.
Thinking Forward
If I had the opportunity of doing secondary practicum again, I would try and change some things.
For example, the use of resources (the variety of them). And of course, keep improving on my
weak points.
Comentario [A1]: Why do you think
this happened??
2. Luckily, I had a lot of help from the teacher I worked with and she gave some advice and ideas to
do with the students, since she knows them well.
Thinking Inward
This experience let me continue to growth as a teacher, and in a personal manner as well, since it
allowed me to face my fears regarding teaching.
As mentioned before, I am happy I did this part of the practicum. It made me realized secondary
school was not as terrible as I thought.
Now, I’m excited to continue to keep growing and learning each day knew things.
Thinking Outward
One of the things I would change (or improve) is, as mentioned before, the use of resources and
activities. As I said before, with time and practice (and knowing the group I would work with) I will
improve this aspect and have the confidence of exploring different things and try them.
I will have the opportunity of talking with other teachers and take their advice, experiences and
ideas to try with my future groups, and hopefully someday, help other teachers myself.
