1. Music Promo Poster
What is music: Music is a form of lyrics and sound put together to create a song
that is published to the world and its listeners.
Codes and Conventions (What Do I expect In a music video) - In a music video i
expect to see forms of dancing, a video that is linked to the genre of the song in
someway, e.g. love song with people in the video being related to the theme love.
He talks about how technical codes of camera and editing have had its impacts of
the music industry and what we see in a video. The big change according to
goodwin was of coursethe video, editing and recording processes and the effects
brought in by the use of the green screen for visual effects. The idea of colour and
portable cameras gives the music industry a new light as companies can produce
music videos quickly and cheaply. Because of changes like this by the 1980s it
became standard for the people to see a music video along with the track and
videos because of the changes was becoming more common.
2. Pros and Cons of making a Music Video -
Pros - With the development of camera, editing, costumes, sound etc music videos
can be made on the cheap side and quickly to go out with a single. The music
video can give the artist a good image or a way to show off their image. The video
can give a meaning to the song and it gives us a meaning to the song, also you can
argue that sometimes the music video can help explain the lyrics to a song.
Cons - The music video can give the artist a bad image and sometimes the music
videos do not make any sense to the lyrics.
Pros AND cons of making a music video/Websites/mAgazine
Pros Cons
When coming to make the music video you
can be as creative as you like, for example
what the genre is, what ideas you have etc.
If you have never used filming equipment
before you may struggle to carry out the task
of making one. For example you may not be
aware on how to use the camera or goPro.
You have the ability to show your emotions
on camera and you can easily link these with
the genre of your song.
Again linking with skills, you may struggle to
use things, such as software.
You can film in any way you wish, using
which shots you want, which sounds you
want, which soundtracks you want to choose
etc.
As a con you may struggle to find people to
go into your music video, will your friends be
reliable to help you out, will they have time to
do so and do they have the skills to help.
See which genre appeals to you the most. This
can then help you with what your video is
about, it will also help keep you engaged with
your topic.
Location, Time, Weather may all be a bad
factor. Unless you can plan exactly what
weather you need if so and what location you
want and how you can get there.
With making the advert linked to your music
video looks quite easy to carry out.
However with making the advert you may
need certain skills, E.G. Know how to use
photoshop.
Again when coming to making a website
there's websites that can help you carry out
this, E.G. Wix.
You may need an eye to detail. Knowing
where to put everything, pictures etc.
Pros and cons of making a digi pack
3. Pros
• It can easily show pictures and information of our music video, also we can
be as creative as wish when making the digi pack for the album, we can
choosewhat to put on their (Writing, Pics etc), It is probably not very time
consuming to make.
Cons
• When making the digipack it may require you to have certain skills, for
example you may need to learn photoshopskills and so in this sense it could
be seen as very time consuming, also you may need an eye to detail when
making the digipack.
Pros and Cons of actually making the video
Pros
• You can very creative with your ideas for the music video, you can pick the
genre, theme, costumes, script, song etc. A big pro again is you can choosea
song and genre that appeals to you so that way you are less likely to get
bored, Again you can pick the people you work with on the music video so
you could pick people with specific knowledge. You will have the ability to
show emotions on the camera and these emotions can really link with your
genre.
Cons
• You will need to use camera equipment and you may struggle to use
this equipment if you have no previous experience. If you are not
interested in music or making a video then this topic/brief then this
would become boring very quickly.
Different types of music videos:
Performance:
4. Includes the band’s actual performance, this type usually is tied in heavily with
other types as just seeing the band’s performance doesn’tmake for an interesting
video, but it’s a good addition into an already existing music video. Performance is
mostly noticeable
Narrative:
A music video which heavily emphasizes the storyline within the music video, for
example the story of two lovers trying to find each other. The viewer will be
shown what happens in this story and the storyline has to be understandable with
only the use of visuals and vocals from the song.
Surrealist:
These videos generally are hard to understand or simply don’tmake much sense to
start with, they stray away from the average viewpoint and force the viewer to
think differently.
Example: Bjork human behaviour, Gotye - Hearts A Mess
Homage/Pastiche:
Trying to replicate the style of a particular song or artist in a way which pays
respect to the original, if the music video’s purposeis to talk down on the original
it would fall under parody.
Parody:
A music video which doesn’ttake itself seriously, it can be a parody of an existing
music video or it could simply be a comedic take on the Narrative storyline.
