Media q4
1. How did you use media technologies in
the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2. Pre-Production
Internet Explorer was instrumental in the research and
planning process. It allowed me to use search engines such as
Goggle, to scrutinise and evaluate music texts including music
video’s , CD front and back covers, music booklet’s and
adverts. Alternatively I used YouTube to look up artists in the
same genre, which would become the foundations for my
music video, CD front and back cover , booklet and Advert.
Finally Wikipedia was also important as I could get
information about artist’s background which I would use to
construct my music video, CD front and back cover, booklet
and advert
3. Mobile Phones
My mobile phone was also crucial in the running up to
production. It allowed me to arrange meetings, the most
important being with the artist, moreover it allowed me to
resolve problems arising after college time, which in this case
was paramount. In addition it allowed me to set up a calendar
for meetings amongst other things. Finally, due to having an
Iphone I could do additional research on the bus and other
places where I did not have access to a computer.
4. Preliminary Exercise
• Undertaking a music video for the first time is somewhat
daunting, nevertheless our teachers were adamant that we do a
short five minute clip of our choice, to familiarise ourselves
with filming and editing. I used a video camera to learn how
the use of various angles could add to the video and keep the
audience intrigued. This is important as any good music video
uses a range of camera angle’s. This exercise shaped the way I
shot my music video. Furthermore it also gave me an insight
into what kind of camera would be effective, thus making me
change from the school camera to a Cannon camera, which had
better graphics. Secondly I used Final Cut Pro to edit my
footage which gave me an insight into what cuts were
effective, and how to sync lyrics and visuals.
5. Production
The preliminary exercise allowed me to understand the importance
of using a good camera, I therefore decided to borrow the Cannon
60d off my friend who works for universal. He told me that I should
use this camera for better graphics, and is convenient for taking
images for my CD front and back cover, booklet and advert, without
using two camera’s . Whilst using this camera, I developed an
understanding of the significance of ISO and other features on the
camera, which allowed me to change things such as the brightness of
the camera in changing light, this inevitably helped the appearance
of the video. In addition I used a steady cam and a fish eye lens. The
fish eye lens although only used in 2 clips, it provided a variation of
lens and shots, which can only add to the video.
6. Post-Production
Once I had completed the filming the tedious editing commenced. I used final
cut pro this editing software allowed me to move things around and add effects
and words. This software was initially used when attempting my preliminary
exercise, the exercise gave me great insight into how to exploit footage and
develop my editing skills.
7. Evaluation
When it came to putting all my work onto wordpress, I found the task easy, as
I had learnt and developed my skills in my AS coursework, so nothing was
challenging. Nonetheless there were a few things I had to learn as we had
changed blog sites.
Conclusion
In conclusion each technology was of great importance. Internet explorer, search
engines and YouTube were the foundations for the adherence of conventions, whilst
also challenging them. The use of the 60d Cannon, tripod and fish eye lens allowed for
a smooth, better quality filming which was effective. Finally final cut pro was
instrumental in the outcome of my media text, as it was where months of work
suddenly fell into place.
