2. ONE REPUBLIC – “SECRETS”
STORYLINE
I want a music video where the visuals match the lyrics perfectly. The visuals explain
what the lyrics are about so that the viewer is able to understand the meaning much
better. The title of the song is called „Secrets‟ which automatically makes us feel that
someone is hiding something because secrets is information that someone does not want
people to hear.
The storyline of this music video would be the main artist literally giving his secrets away.
When he speaks to someone a secret will come out, using After Effects I can get words
to come out of his mouth. The words will be in gold and only the person he has told and
the audience knows what he said.
Secrets are known as something that someone should not keep to themselves, or they
are something really bad that if revealed can have bad consequences on the holder. At
the end of the music video I think that it would be quite fitting for the main actor to be in a
room full of people talking about him, pointing to him and laughing because they are
discussing his secrets. However, he doesn‟t care because he wants to get rid of his
secrets and live a happier life. This message is something that many can relate to and
will make the music video more interesting.

3. LOCATIONS
There won‟t be many locations for this storyline, however to make it
more interesting he could say secrets in quite a few places.

4. COSTUME
This is about an every day person, but because we are promoting the
artist he will wear better brands.
Clothing:
T-Shirt – big design in the centre
Trousers – black
Shoes – grey, white or black
Jacket/Jumper – colours like light blue, dark red or white
Necklace – multiple necklaces, long and gold/silver
Bracelets – lots of bracelets, made out of fabric
Hat – unsure but would be quite „skater‟

5. USE OF FLASHBACKS
Using flashbacks in my music video would be quite good and will
make the music video a lot more interesting. As the song is
about secrets that have happened in the past, we could use
flashbacks to show what had happened and why he is keeping it
a secret. For instance if the actor said “I accidently pushed my
brother down the stairs” then we could have a flashback of him
pushing his „brother‟ down the stairs.
We most likely won‟t use the example that I have given because
of health and safety but if we wish to do something similar we
would have things like a crash mat and other health and safety
precautions put in place. I think that using flashbacks will make
the meaning of our music video better because the viewers can
understand the reasoning behind his secret. The flashback will
have a white glow around it to make it sort of „dream like‟ and to
make the point that it is a secret more well known.
