2. CONCEPT:
The concept for this music video will go around The mental and social
issues that this generation were going through. The time concept will going
to be the current time but more on the vintage side regarding with the
interior/place design and costume and make up. The intertextual reference
for this video is the recent movie IT which tackles the kids’ relationships
with their parents and with their fears. We will see development on each
other’s characters here on how they are being hold back and being shut by
their parents to standing up in their own beliefs and voicing it out to the
world. The main actor will have mental issues, as his parents always fight
and stop him from being himself and treating him like he doesn’t have the
right to talk.He will appear very formal at the beginning then build
himself up at the end. For the second actress, she will have family issue
regarding with her abusive family. This actress will have bruises and cry
all the time. Her character will be quite similar to Beverly Marsh on the
movie IT. We will see her character development by fighting back and moving
out from the house. The third actor will have a very non expressive and
political/business focused parents. They will just talk about business and
politics in the dining table and argue. At first this third actor will be
emotionless but as the camera zoom out and as he look to his parents he
will show his true emotions. This is similar to one of the characters in IT
named Eddie Kaspbrak. The last actor however has this high expectations
from him, they want him to always have good grades to be able to enter
medical school. But inside he has this heart of an artist. These different
issues will nourish the music video and will make the audiences taste
different kinds of why the kids sometimes doesn’t wanna come home anymore.
The video will serve as an advocacy on voicing out your opinion even at
such an early age. It will tell you to be aware and be mindful about what
you say. This could be a wake up call for the parents to be more cautious
on what they were doing.
The video will establish character development and imagery about these
issues. It will also convey how these kids were going through this mental
and verbal abuse about the things they say on this generation. The video
will have a vintage feel same as the movie IT. The video will have the
80’s-90’s vibe as the message will be for the baby boomers. There will be a
sense of sarcasm as the actor might act a bit childish as the old ones
always say “You are still a kid, you don’t have the right to say your
opinion.” At the end the video will make the audience realize that we have
to be aware and think before we speak. That maturity wasn’t defined by age.

NARRATIVE AND PERFORMANCE:
The narrative of the video will be relevant to the lyrics as the lyrics
will serve as the script for their actions. The music video will be a
combination of narrative and performance as there will be a small snippet
narration before the music starts. Although there won’t be a heavy
performance like playing an instrument or dancing, there will be a lot of
lip synching while doing an acting. The performance will be merged into the
narrative to make it more efficient and enjoyable to the audiences. It will
also help to enhance the narrative of the music video and will make the
audiences understand the message of the video and the song. The phase of
the narrative and performance will depends on the music timing and beat so
it will sync onto the music video. The visual should always complement with
music.
The narration will help the audiences to be drawn in it and to sympathize
with the characters as the story will reflect on their personal problems as
well. Having a complex but flexible narrative story will help reaching a
wide target audience. I will subvert the characteristics of the teenagers
as being kind of rebellious and voicing their opinions. But there will be a
hidden message and values within the video as you understand it. It will be
a mix of real time but with the vintage vibe. There will be also different
character’s point of view as the music video goes on. It will have a non
linear, open and a realist narrative so the audiences will be more
interested and try to figure out what was going on. The imagery will help
them to find the true meaning of the music video. The realist narrative
will also exploit the idea and will try to get the idea of “You’ve also
been experiencing this.” By getting the sympathy of the audiences and make
them feel that they can relate, the sales would be wide and massive.

LOCATION & TIME:
The location of the music video will going to be mostly inside the house as
I have to show what is on their homes and why they don’t want to go there
anymore. Also by just shooting inside the house or a room, it will be
easier to make the audiences relate to as they might be experiencing that
inside their houses as well. The first bits would be on the bedroom filled
with posters and vintage stuff which I could shoot inside my bedroom as it
is already like that. My room has a huge window which could be good as the
source of light to make the video bright and sharp. There is a lot of space
in my room as well to place the camera to establish different frame and
shots. There is a good corridor in our house as well so the actor would be
free to move around as we establish tracking shot. I have a vanity mirror
in our house that could place the scene on 0:59. Our lounge was pretty big
as well to shoot the other scene. One of the important scene as well was
the dining table which I could use our house dining room and someone else’s
house which I will investigate and do my research. We need to establish the
diversity of each characters so there will be variant of source for the
audiences to relate themselves. On the second actress will have a poor and
messy house (that includes the dining table that they have). For the third
actor their house will be a little bit posh than the previous one as they
have a wealthy life and his parents are very into stocks, politics, and
business. Lastly the fourth actor will have a dark house as he was the most
emotional and aggressive one.
The rest of the video will take place on the road which I will do the
tracking shot. The potential road I would like to do this scene are
Arncliff Street, Eltringham Rd, Clifton Avenue, Greatham and Stanhope
avenue. These streets and roads are just a minute or two walk from my house
which will be easier so that we could shoot in broad daylight. Most of
these scene will going to be shoot when the sun is visible to serve as our
natural lighting. For the last scene I am thinking of doing it in an open
space that could be park here in hartlepool, rooftop in the middleton
5. grange, or in summerhill as I am planning to do a aerial or drone shot as
well.

LIGHTING AND COLOUR:
The lighting of this music video were mostly going to be natural light as I
am planning to shoot in broad daylight. Inside the house I am planning to
have a semi dark lighting as the vibe there was discomfort. At the SCENE 18
the lighting will be bright as they will walking down the street already
meaning there will be much more source of light. It has to be bright as
well as these kid somewhat achieved their freedom after going out from the
house. The negative will turn into positive so the transition of semi dark
lighting to bright lighting will serve as an imagery for the audiences as
well. On the SCENE 12, the source of light will be coming from the tv and
some fairy lights. The colour grading I will use here is vinate LUTs and
faded effect to achieve that vintage and film look. I will also use magic
lantern to make my footage raw and more enhanced and professional looking.
I will use different range of lenses, tripod and stabilizers as well.
8. CAMERA/EDITING TECHNIQUES:
Regarding with the Camera shot and editing you can refer from the Lyric
breakdown as well. But to elaborate them, there will be mostly eyeline
match and medium close up shot to connect with the audience as if they are
watching the actual scene. There will be close ups as well to connote
emotions. Some of top view or bird’s eye view shot will going to be
established as well on some part of the video. There will be a use of
glidecam and stabilizers for tracking shot and pan zoom out shots. The
focus would be in deep and shallow focus to indicate the subject of the
video. I will also use rule of thirds to make the audience know which one
was the main actor/actress. The transition in each frame would depends on
the bet of the music or the message of the lyrics. I am planning to not add
any special effect transition to make it more music video like and not a
video montage. But with the colour grading and editing I will use LUT
filters and faded effect. I might also overlay vintage texture to make it
more convincing. There will be jump cuts as well as it is non linear
narrative and to fit the whole concept into 4-5 minutes.Lastly I will add a
black border at the bottom and top to make look professional and cinematic.
