- In May 2020, a settlement was reached between the Texas AG and multiple drug companies over fraudulent and reckless opioid marketing that contributed to addiction and overdoses, which will provide funds to Texas cities. The City Manager and Attorney will present information on allocating the city's share of settlement funds.

2. SUMMARY
 May 13, 2020 - a settlement was reached
between Texas AG and a negotiation group
from political subdivisions and multiple drug
companies that engaged in fraudulent /
reckless marketing and distribution of opioids
that resulted in addition and overdoses

3. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
 At the November 10th council meeting, City Attorney Frank
Garza made a staff report to council
 Settlement broken in 3 allotments, 15%, 15% and 70%
 First 15% group can be used for safety considerations
and placed in the General Fund
 2nd and 3rd groups have very specific uses and additional
reporting requirements

4. POLICY ANALYSIS
 Consistent with State Law and recommended
to approve by the State Attorney General
and City Attorney
 Any future allocations requests would come
to council for approval

5. FISCAL IMPACT
 Allotment 1 payout of $28,198
 Will work with staff to identify areas where
funds can be utilized
