What is ACE Schools ? Multi-stakeholder project. Facilitates whole school approach to developing healthy policies
Multi-stakeholders ? HSE (support by : training ,resources, empowerment, QA, audit & evaluation ) Community development - ACE Supporters (link & policy development facilitator ) Schools ( set goals ,policy & building health promoting environment )
Schools ACE project June/ Sept Policy roll out event March/ April 3rd visit by ACE supporter Jan/Feb 2nd visit by ACE supporter November Launch night of ACE project for parents, pupils, teachers October 1st visit by ACE supporter September 2 nights training by health professionals
Learning to date Beneficial health initiative Specific changes per school ↑ nutrition education & physical activity ↑ health awareness & improved weight & behaviour management The Schools’ ACE supporters : Positive
Future Challenges Finance Ongoing demand for sports & food related equipment for schools Stronger links between Dept of : Heath , Education Agriculture.
