We now have a healthy appreciation of how technology can keep businesses on their toes by disrupting everything – processes, consumer behavior, and how we live in general.
This year, we already see the start of how technology is changing the way we do business! Some of these ways are shown in the presentation
2. VIRTUAL
REALITY
We see a lot of activity this year in the VR space. Google, Facebook, Apple,
Samsung and Microsoft are making headway with VR technology. Oculus
Rift, themselves, have created Story Studios, where they will use VR in film,
not just games (the initial VR market). We will see a lot of advancement in
VR technology, and a lot more industries, other than gaming, investing in it

3. ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE
Advances into smart technology has skyrocketed. These
machines can gather information from their environment
and adapt accordingly. Some are smart enough to provide
assistance in the workplace – whether industrial, lab,
medical, etc. This leads us to AI, powered by big data, and
having the ability to learn as they have access to more and
more information (like IBM’s Watson).

4. The number of active smartphones is predicted to surpass the number of
personal computers soon. People in emerging economies are finding it easier
to remain connected via mobile. With the growth of cloud computing,
integration between devices have gotten easier, meaning you can switch
seamlessly between your laptop and mobile. This will enable people do more
on their mobile.

5. Everything is connected with the Internet of Things. Existing
technology is now being combined and used in more strategic ways,
and across industries; whether it’s connection between your house
lighting/heating and your mobile, connection between processes
and services, etc. One thing is for sure, we are getting more and
more connected.

6. Messaging apps, like Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat
and Vine, are fast catching up to social media sites like Facebook,
Twitter, and Tumblr. Popularity has grown because you can send
more than in a text (like pictures and stickers), and less than on
social media, and much more privately.

7. 3D printing has been around for a long time, and has been used for
prototyping in manufacturing. But the way 3D printing is now being used
has revolutionized the technology. Now being a manufacturer from the
comfort of your home is ever closer!

8. Big data has been making news waves for a while. But privacy issues have
made this concept notorious for much of the public. But for sure, big data
is here to stay because it makes commercial sense for internet companies
and advertisers. Also, marketers are increasingly focusing first on the
consumer, and big data enables them understand how the consumer
behaves.

9. The revival of Apple Pay has brought mobile payments back to life. BI
Intelligence says as at 2013, about 6% of adults in the US purchased
something in-store using mobile payments. They anticipate this
percentage will keep increasing. Maybe Google can see this trend too
as they are also revitalizing their Google Wallet

10. Drones aren’t new technology, but they are more common now than ever.
Advancements have been made in this area, and some companies like
Amazon and Alibaba have started testing them as avenues for package
deliveries. We will continue to see advancements here.
