3. Section B – Planning and managing a social
media marketing campaign
• There are three big ideas in today's lesson
1. Different social media channels (or
platforms, or applications – all the same)
for different things
2. New media technologies, especially social
media and other web and app based
things, alongside old media technologies,
especially posters and trailers
3. Classification – part of the distinction
criteria involves demonstrating your
understanding of these issues.
• We have indeed been here before
• This is about cementing the idea
that your campaign will be on
YouTubefor video and perhaps also
audio,on InstaGram for still images,
and on Twitter for links to
everything and bits of news
• It's about remembering the ways
you can use new technologies–
social media – to distribute old
technologies– posters and trailers
• It's about finding a point to make
about classification,because you
need to if you're going to get a
Distinction.
4. The detailed example is on the blog
1. I want you to plan content for three different
social media channels -
• YouTube
• InstaGram
• Twitter
2. The best answers will come up with more than
one use for each channel – so on InstaGram you
can havea 'backstage' or sneak preview account
but also have an account from your fictionalmain
character, for example
3. Concentrateon the four weeks leadingup to the
launch – that lets you focus on a wide range of
interesting content during the 'full on' period of
the campaign
• AND – you need to have a column in
your plan for old media too – how is it
going to work alongside the new
media technologies; This is part of the
distinction criteria.
• AND – you need to justify the
certification and regulation of the
product you are advertising and of the
marketing campaign you are making.
Use the blog info and links to research
the regulation and certification of
games.
5. The Task
• REMEMBER– this time this is an app based game
for smartphones, not a film
• AND REMEMBER– this about who yourtarget
audience are
• AND REMEMBER– there is a link in the question
to the idea of commercial sponsorship...
• Timings for today(and remember in the exam
you'll have about 45 minutes for the whole
task)
• Social media channels – 30 minutes
• Links between new and old media – 20
minutes
• Classificationand regulation – 30 minutes
6. Review – what are
you looking for?
1. A clear understandingof the questionand task –
your answer clearly shows you understandwhat
you're being asked to do, and you've focused on
the media form – film/tv/game/radio/whatever-
that you're got to plain a campaign for,.
2. A clear understandingof the different social
media channelsand what they are for.
3. A clear understandingof how new media and
old media technologiescan complement each
other
4. A clear understandingof issues of certification
and regulation
