1. Pay attention to time, and don’t spend forever on Activity 1 just
because there are lots of sections in it
2. Don’t spend any time telling the examiner why the commission is a
good idea – you don’t need to explain why the subject of the brief is
indeed a problem that needs addressing.
3. In the Rationale, make sure your primary and secondary research are
specific and relevant
4. You need to demonstrate from the word go that the ideas you settle
on are achievable – you would be able to produce this on time and on
budget.
5. You need to constantly link the requirements of the commission with
your ideas
6. Don’t write more than the word limit for the Pitch.
7. Don’t waste time in the Pitch explaining what the commission is for
or agreeing that it’s important.
8. ‘Being persuasive’ doesn’t mean saying ‘we always make high quality
products using the best equipment’. Be specific about the
commission.
9. Include technical ideas in your pitch – explain how you are going to
achieve the effects you are outlining.
10.In your proposal, make sure your legal and ethical considerations are
specific and relevant.
11.Make sure the techniques and processes you describe do actually tie
closely in with the product and effects you are proposing.
12.In the treatment, the storyboard must contain timings, audio
information and shot transitions, as well as information about the
shot, camera movement, key aspects of Mise en Scene and the image
itself.
13.In the Justification, you need to make clear links between how what
you have done meets the requirements of the commission and how
the content you have proposed and the styles and techniques you
want to use to create it will be effective at communicating your
message to your target audience.
