1. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR
PRELIMINARY TASK , WHAT DO
YOU THINK YOU HAVE LEARNT IN
PROGRESSION FROM IT?
QUESTION SEVEN
2. I feel that conclusively , over the course of filming and
production , I’ve learnt of how incredibly important it is to
pay attention to detail . I now understand that whether it be
a constituent of mise-en-scene , timing or dialogue , It’s a
collection of the seemingly unimportant components which
unite to make a good finishing product .
3. In production, one key focus was to achieve a certain mood / impression
within the product . Simultaneously, I was conscious of making the footage &
photographs apt to the beat of the music . I understood that this would mean
the sequence would have to be relatively quick paced. However, I didn’t fully
understand the importance of this until I reached the editing stages. I’d find it
really quite off putting / discomforting if the shot was in the slightest out of
time or unnecessarily prolonged. I learnt about the impact which even most
minute of details can have on a product – even something as small as a tenth
of a second.
The difference between 0.2
SECONDS & 0.3 SECONDS
4. As mentioned beforehand , I dedicated a lot of focus to creating a very particular
mood / vibe in the product . In the stages of conceptualisation, I knew exactly what I
wanted the mood to be like and how I wanted it to make audience feel - I simply didn’t
know how to achieve it . Having collected the footage and piecing it together loosely , I
matched it to a ferocious variety of songs which I’d shortlisted , deeming them
appropriate to the desired mood . When reviewing the rough footage with each individual
song , I learnt how not all of the songs accompanied the footage sequence as well as I
had anticipated . The select few songs that helped to channel my intended impression
highlighted the importance of choosing the right music and the impact audio can have on
a product .
Using the appropriate music and
matching music to action
5. After much deliberation , I chose ‘You’ by the 1975 . I worked towards
culminating all the shots together with more precision . The chose song has a
very distinctive , prominent rhythm to it . I soon learnt of how curtail it is to
make transitions , visuals affects and timing apt to the feel of the music .
6. The Filming process proved to be very a trial and error effort , which conclusively
lead to me learning about how incredibly important it is to plan in detail Before canning
the actual footage used in ‘YOU’ , I made a few other attempts to gather footage , in
various locations across the school site . I found soon found that this footage simply
wasn’t working . It didn’t feel natural to the impression of the product it wasn’t up to my
standards . By no means was this the fault of anyone other than myself . The actors were
ill-informed , the camera work was sloppy and generally , planning wasn’t up to scratch .
Therefore , for the third filming attempt , I conjured up an in-depth plan , ensuring the
audience knew where they should be and what they should be doing and planned each
shot in detail .
