I have never felt more out of my depth as I did when beginning Convergent Journalism. And that feeling did not ease off when the first assessment rolled around.
The hardest part of the whole course was audio. I choose to do my audio report on a group of  international students who meet once a week for  dinner. I thought it would make for an interesting  audio report with the sound of different accents, and the actuality of the cooking and eating process.
Unfortunately my lack of comfort and familiarity with the technology proved to impair my work drastically. It sounded terrible once put into the editing program. I had not gathered nearly enough audio nor had I recorded good sounds to use as actuality. On top of this issue I did not feel comfortable with the pro tools program and struggled to produce a credible audio piece. This was reflected in my marks.
The photo essay was more successful. My only complaint would be time. It felt like a rushed process to learn photography, and compile an essay.
And although happy with my result, I had difficulty taking clear photographs in a night time setting. Changing the photos from colour to black and white changed the clarity of my images and improved the effect and presentation.
Combining both aspects proved to be difficult however, effective in confirming my knowledge on both. This assessment was difficult but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and learnt the most from it. I was impressed with my ability to use both aspects together and create the multimedia project.
I learnt so much from this assessment as I was pushed out of my comfort zone. I was able to see the results of my interviews and photographs together as a whole.
 Convergence was intimidating at first. The technology was overwhelming and the tasks seemed endless. However in no other class have I felt and seen such an improvement in my own work from beginning to end. By Mylee Rose Hogan
