2. Introduction –
I am going to be researching into other a level soap opera TV trailers in order to help
me see what works well and how I could make my own product a better standard.
When looking at other people s soap opera TV trailers I will evaluate them by seeing
if they have used the typical conventions of soap opera and look like a TV trailer.

When watching this A level video I noticed that they included soap opera storylines.
For example they used young people drinking and taking drugs along with
relationships. They also used some conventional settings like a park and a school
toilets. They also included conventional costumes and props such as drink bottles
and everyday clothing. When watching this I felt that it seemed more like an opening
sequence compared to a trailer as I felt it wasn’t dramatic enough and didn’t have
suspense. The length of the video is conventional as most trailers are no longer than
2 minutes long.

When watching this A2 soap trailer they uses typical themes such as love, alcoholism
and violence/conflict. The trailer follows the storyline of secret affairs which are
common in programmes such as Eastenders. They used sound effects to add suspense
which is conventional of trailers. They use conventional settings such as corner shops
and pubs. In this trailer they also added aspects of family life which is conventional of
soap opera’s. I also like how they used a phone call into their trailer as it relates to the
younger generation communicating with each other. They also included an alcoholic in
their trailer which is conventional of a soap. There product does have aspects that show
it’s a trailer but it doesn’t have a fast enough pace to be seen as trailer. It would have
been better if they speeded up the pace towards the end as the trailer has the same
pace all the way through.

When watching this A2 video I noticed they included conventional aspects of soap opera
such as bullying, violence, family issues. This video looks more like a trailer than the
others as it has a fast pace to it. I also like how they have used logos this makes it look
verisimilitude. However I do think they could have made it more conventional of a soap
opera by adding more storylines into it, for example they could of added aspects of drug
taking or teenage pregnancy.
