The practice of basing all beliefs and practice
strictly on evidence (allegedly) separates
science from other activities - Kuhn, 1996. The
evidence-based professional practice entails
methodological decision-making based on
analysis and synthesis of evidence derived
from the latest research. ‘‘Evidence-based’’ is
typically read in medicine and other life and
social sciences as the empirically adequate
standard of reasonable practice and a means
for increasing certainty. However, how
‘evidence’ has been problematized in the
philosophy of science should give us pause and
a reason why we must care to be cautious with
the enthusiasm of"evidence-based" claims.
The appeal to the authority of evidence that
characterizes evidence-based practices does
not increase objectivity but rather obscures
the subjective elements that inescapably enter
all forms of human inquiry. The seeming
common sense of Evidence-Based Medicine
only occurs because of its assumed removal
from the social context of medical practice. In
the current age where the institutional power
of medicine is suspect, a model that
represents biomedicine as politically
disinterested or merely scientific should give
pause. (Goldenberg, 2005).

The Enlightenment hopes that man could reach
truth purely by observations and logic, cannot
be fulfilled even in the limited domain of
mathematics. Godel proved what poets have
always known, that transcendental truths are
beyond the reach of reason: Iqbal easily
transcended the realms of logic, But he could
not plumb the depths of the mysteries of love.

The race between education and technology:
The American educational system had always
been less elitist than that of most other
nations, and by 1900 the US had begun to
educate its masses at the secondary level. US
educational attainment remained at the
forefront-until recently." During the first eight
decades of the twentieth century
technological change boosted the demand for
educated workers, while the supply of
educated workers more than kept pace.
Educational attainment grew at exceptionally
rapid rates, thereby lowering inequality at the
same time incomes increased. America grew
together. Technological change has continued
to increase the demand for educated workers,
but since about 1980 an educational slowdown
has produced rising inequality. America has
been growing apart.

The Great Sugar Conspiracy | Big Think

considered toxic. Lustig laid out his argument
in a 90-minute lecture that went viral on
Youtube. It also attracted plenty of criticism.
Let's not toss out the the strawberries with the

Prevention Research Center. Others have
criticized Lustig's use of unreliable survey data
to make his case that the overconsumption of
sugar causes chronic metabolic disease. And
yet, Lustig is uncompromising in his war on
sugar. Sugar is "a poison by itself," he argued
last February, and it should be regulated like
alcohol and tobacco. Lustig is now out with a
highly anticipated book called Fat Chance:
Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed
Food, Obesity, and Disease, which documents
the science and the politics that has led to the

Why do we 'Pay Attention'? Why is it that we
pay attention to what interests us? To be or
not to be - from inter "between" + esse "to be"

15c., "legal claim or right; a concern; a benefit,
advantage, a being concerned or affected
(advantageously)," from Old French interest
"damage, loss, harm" (Modern French intérêt),
from noun use of Latin interest "it is of

literally "to be between," from inter "between"
(see inter-) + esse "to be" (from PIE root *es-

entirely clear.

types of bodily pleasures, I would be happy."

One who has a why to live can bear almost any
how is common observation. Yet there is a
paradox that is difficult to reconcile. For
example in the 20th century nihilistic themes
dominated intellectual thought. Nihilistic
themes include for example --epistemological
failure, value destruction, and cosmic
purposelessness--preoccupied artists, social
critics, and philosophers. Nihilism is the belief
that all values are baseless and that nothing
can be known or communicated. Nihilism"
comes from the Latin nihil, or nothing, which
means not anything, that which does not exist.
It appears in the verb "annihilate," meaning to
bring to nothing, to destroy completely.
Cognitive dissonance! The (uncomfortable)
state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs,
or attitudes. How to overcome??

How Doctors Were Duped, Patients Got
Hooked, and Why It’s So Hard to Stop
https://jhupbooks.press.jhu.edu/content/drug-
dealer-md In Drug Dealer, MD, Dr. Anna Lembke
uncovers the unseen forces driving opioid
addiction nationwide. Combining case studies
from her own practice with vital statistics
drawn from public policy, cultural
anthropology, and neuroscience, she explores
the complex relationship between doctors and
patients, the science of addiction, and the
barriers to successfully addressing drug
dependence and addiction. Even when
addiction is recognized by doctors and their
patients, she argues, many doctors don’t know
how to treat it, connections to treatment are
lacking, and insurance companies won’t pay
for rehab.

Groupthink refers to a psychological
phenomenon in which people strive for
consensus within a group. In many cases,
people will set aside their own personal beliefs
or adopt the opinion of the rest of the group.
Groupthink is a term first used in 1972 by
social psychologist Irving L. Janis.

The term “normalization of deviance” was
coined by sociologist Diane Vaughan based on
her study of the culture of NASA prior to the
Challenger disaster. This concept continues to
reverberate within organizational settings, as
companies grapple with employee behaviors
that are often counter-productive to achieving
organizational ends but are often so hidden or
“normal” that organizational actors are either
unaware of them or assume that this behavior
is a natural part of the project management
process. Pinto, J.K., 2014. Project
management, governance, and the
normalization of deviance. International
Journal of Project Management, 32(3), pp.376-

Are American firms underestimating
Pharmaceutical Quality Management
Challenges in India? At the same time that
Baxter International was closing its $625
million deal for Claris Injectables last year, FDA
inspectors were taking a hard look at one of
the three plants Baxter had acquired. Turns
out they were not very impressed with its
manufacturing processes.

What is CFDA focusing on? China’s
pharmaceutical industry is not strong enough
for innovative capacity, the industrial structure
is not yet mature, the degree of industrial
concentration is not high enough, and the
phenomenon of low-level duplication is still
prominent. The level of quality and safety
protection remains to be further improved.

We need a WHOLE new mind. Integrated and
coherent thinking to journey successful across
the shifting Abundance, Asia and Automation.
Knowledge workers — professionals like
executives, lawyers and programmers — are
overwhelmingly systematic thinkers. This is
necessary but not sufficient. Systems thinking
is essential. I don't much appreciate the "right
vs left brain" description. I prefer integrated
thinking.

Book recommendation:Average is Over:
Powering America Beyond the Age of the Great
Stagnation (2013), Tyler Cowen. Average Is
Over. In its place is a world of income disparity,
with big earners and big losers. The future
Professor Cowen paints is pretty bleak for the
majority of Americans. For instance, “the less
wealthy will be pushed out of the nicer living
areas." The quality of the water and electrical
infrastructure might be low by American
standards, though we could supplement the
neighborhood with free municipal wireless….”
(p. 244). This is not a future I want to see.
Yearning to fill gaps is a action because I care
and know the ledge Prof. Cowen describes. The
measure of self-motivation in a young person
will become the best way to predict upward
mobility. Cowen.

We (humans) are makers of meaning. We do so
consciously and subconsciously. Words have
multiple meanings. Paying attention to
meanings of a word allows us to think
consciously and be accurate and precise. The
word data takes on different meanings when
coupled with other words. In some cases, the
coupling of two words conjures up a fairly
accurate meaning, and in other cases it can be
very confusing.

Cares about. Data governance and data
integrity are a prominent feature in drug GMP
