MISSION ONE LAKH
DEVELOP 1,00,000 VILLAGE VISIONARY SOCIAL LEADERS IN RURAL INDIA
VISION //
POVERTY: 41% of the population is below the poverty line
EDUCATION: 50% of students in class 5 cannot read class 2 story
HEALTH: Maternal mortality of 219 per 1,000 (178 for all India)
CORRUPTION: One of the most corrupt states
GENDER: Bottom 5 in gender quality
CASTE: Caste-based politics and violence
THE PROBLEM //
All of this boils down to a crisis of leadership at the last mile.
Biharis with skills and resources leave the state.
Baharis with skills and resources do not come to the state.
As a result, the status quo remain unchanged.
THE PROBLEM //
This problem is not unique to Bihar –
in fact, it is there in the rural areas of every state.
THE PROBLEM //
On the other hand, there is a HUGE OPPORTUNITY on our hands.
Right now, half of India’s 120 crore population is UNDER 25.
THE OPPORTUNITY //
Young people are HUNGRY –
Hungry to transform their village
Hungry to create jobs
Hungry to make change
THE OPPORTUNITY //

VISIONARY IDEAS //
GOAL: for the most innovative visionaries, we will help connect them
with funding opportunities so that they can work on their own ideas as
well.
OTHER FUNDERS WE CAN CONNECT WITH //
VillGro
Avishkaar
Milaap
NSDC
Acumen
Fund
Dasra
EXAMPLE IDEA: Community development + Livelihoods //
GYAAN KI CHAI
Like Starbucks…only better
People already gather in chai stalls, so why not integrate it into the
development of the village? Add tablets that people, like students, can use
for a small fee. Bring in local artists to do performances and pay them a
small fee. Hold debates and discussions on important local issues.
RISKS + MITIGATION STRATEGIES //
POLITICAL INTERFERENCE: Mitigated by having projects run by locals and that benefit
the whole village.
CRIME: Overall, crime has dropped significantly. Secondly, we build close relationships
with all major administrators at the state and district levels to ensure protection.
VISIONARIES DROPPING OUT: Mitigated by having such a long selection process that
ensures that those who make it to the end are really committed; by the fact that we invest
in close relationships with visionary families; and by the fact that we pay a stipend.
FAILED ENTERPRISES: Mitigated by using proven models that create social and
financial value.
OUR SECRET SAUCE: OUR CULTURE //
POTENTIAL; everyone has it
ACTION; louder than words
RELATIONSHIPS; matter most
Leadership and community development:
• 30 Village Visionaries selected and trained
• 30 community centers built
Education:
• 30 literacy camps run
• 250 person teacher-changemaker network initiated
Sanitation:
• 500 toilets built
• 25 health and sanitation camps conducted
Infrastructure:
• 20 roads built
• 15 villages electrified
IMPACT THUS FAR //
Cost per visionary
₹60,000
100,000 Village Visionaries
₹600 crore
FINANCIAL MODEL //
FINANCIAL MODEL //
₹ 20,000 Crore available fund via CSR (Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs
Fundraising goal: 0.5% of available CSR funds (60 crore per year)
Half on VV development (30 crore) and half on enterprise development (30 crore)
Within 20 years, we would have the funds required to achieve our vision.
This is also assuming no profits from the enterprises are used for the

Where the mind is without far and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been frittered into fragments by narrow domestic
walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where sleepless striving stretches its strenuous arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way in the dreary desert
sand of dead habit, and where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-
widening thought and action – there wake up my country into that heaven
of freedom, my father!
-Rabindranath Tagore

Secondly, we build close relationships with all major administrators at the state and district levels to ensure protection. VISIONARIES DROPPING OUT: Mitigated by having such a long selection process that ensures that those who make it to the end are really committed; by the fact that we invest in close relationships with visionary families; and by the fact that we pay a stipend. FAILED ENTERPRISES: Mitigated by using proven models that create social and financial value.

  • 55. Where the mind is without far and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been frittered into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where sleepless striving stretches its strenuous arms towards perfection; Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way in the dreary desert sand of dead habit, and where the mind is led forward by thee into ever- widening thought and action – there wake up my country into that heaven of freedom, my father! -Rabindranath Tagore
