3. What are Food Shortages?
● Lack of food due to the lack of resources and
production of food.
● People suffer from hunger which could lead
to death
● Despite technological advancements,
countries are experiencing food shortages
especially in Africa.
4. Who are facing food shortages?
● Majority of countries with this situation are
located in Africa
● 795 million people in the world are facing
this situation.
● Food deserts in chicago.
6. World Food Programme (WFP) by the
United Nation
● World’s largest humanitarian organisation
● Provides food for free to countries/places that
need it the most
● Fighting hunger worldwide.
7. Who is the director of WFP ?
● 12th Director of WFP : Ertharin Cousin
● Focusing on hunger, food, and resilience
strategies.
8. History of WFP
● 1960 - United States President Dwight Eisenhower proposes to the UN
that "a workable scheme should be devised for providing food aid
through the UN system."
● 1961 - At the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in
Rome, George McGovern, director of the US Food for Peace
Programme, proposes the creating a multilateral food aid programme.
● 1962 - Addeke Boerma is appointed as WFP's first Executive Director.
● 2003 - WFP starts to provide air transport services for emergency
relief operations.
● Today - WFP has helped out more than 80 million people worldwide

10. How could we do our part as a Singaporean?
● Reduce the wastage of food in Singapore
● Total of 790 million kilogram of food wasted
● One bad example is that we have seen our
own students wasting their food.
11. How can we do our part as a BB boy?
● Raise awareness of the amount of food
wasted in singapore.
● Donate some food during BBSG.
12. What can we learn from this?
● Food is something that we should cherish
● There are others who do not have easy access
to food
● Buy what we need, and eat what we buy.
