This document provides information about text sets and their use in the classroom. It defines text sets as collections of texts on a specific topic that may include different genres and media. Research findings are presented showing that students who read conceptually coherent text sets demonstrated better knowledge and recall compared to those who read unrelated texts. The document then provides examples of text sets related to entrepreneurs and the book A Land Remembered that include literary texts, informational articles, videos, and websites to help students answer questions about the topics.

3. Text Sets: What are they?
• Text sets are collections of texts

4. Text Sets: Why use them?
• “Students who read the conceptually coherent texts demonstrated
more knowledge of the concepts in their texts, more knowledge of
the target words in their texts, and had better recall of the novel text
compared to students who read unrelated texts. Findings suggest that
there is potential for knowledge and vocabulary to be built during
English language arts through a focus on conceptual coherence in the
design of reading experiences for students.”
