Editor's Notes
In the first part of tonight’s session we will look at the entry requirements for QUT. We will explore all the many different types of entry into our undergraduate courses.
We’ll then hear from a current student about their life as a university student. We’ll finish the seminar with information about study costs and financial support information. Our staff and students will be available at the end of the seminar to discuss any further questions you may have about entry, courses and support services.
On your way in tonight, I hope you collected a copy of our Entry Pathways brochure (hold up to show), as much of what we talk about is covered in this publication. If not, please raise your hand now and we will bring one around to you.
Please be aware that the advice we are providing tonight is for domestic students only. If you are an international student, we are happy for you to join us but you will need to seek specific admission advice separately.
Some quick housekeeping for tonight – the toilets are located just at the back of the room. In the event of an emergency I will direct you to make your way out of the exits to the evacuation meeting point which is at ..........
Extra things to say:
If you look at page 2 of the Entry Pathways brochure, you can see how an OP is converted to a rank.
If you achieved an OP 10 in 2012, then it is now equivalent to a rank of 80.
Extra things to say:
Hands up if you have TAFE or private college studies, a trade qualification or have completed Adult Tertiary Preparation
You will have a rank for each qualification you have received
Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) award – TAFE and some private colleges – check that it is an AQF award
If you have completed a Advanced Diploma, with a GPA of less than 5.24, you will have a rank of 93
However if you have done well in your studies and achieved a GPA of 6.5+ then you will have a rank of 98.
So your TAFE or college studies can be really useful for gaining entry.
We’ll talk more about the STAT later in the presentation.
If you want us to check your rank, please come and talk to us at the end.
Regardless of which uni you choose, you will pay a contribution to your fees. This table shows the amount a student would pay if studying a full-time load for a full year and all subjects were taken from the specified band.
In reality, the student contribution varies according to the number of units studied, and the bands for those individual units. For example, if you are studying a Business degree but take language units, or law units, then those units are charged at a different rate because they are within different bands.
Students who study a double degree may pay varying amounts each semester.
It can be difficult to calculate the exact cost of study prior to enrolment, particularly in courses where there are many elective options – because these can be taken from different bands and you may not know what electives you are going to choose prior to enrolment, or even as you progress through your course. But this table will give you a good idea of how much it might cost.
