Thought Beats - this means seeing the sound in your head.
First step – looking into the music and interpret it looking at
the chorus/versus.
Second step – ‘the voice within the song’ the artists can be
unique and can be identified from the rest.
Third step – the artist tells a story within their songs, this
can make the artist also be known as the ‘storyteller’. The
music video can be seen to aid the story that the artist is
telling us through the song.

3. 2. Narrative and star performance.
Goodwin says we tend to make up our own idea of the messages within the
music video from a basic understanding of what the video is actually about.
Music videos should be of the same standard every time, also the narrative
and the performance need to work together to keep the audience interested
and not bored of the video.
When the artist acts as the actor/singer in the music video it makes the video
more authentic and original.

Star image is the most important aspect within a music video.
Artists want to obviously look unique in order to stay current and
for audiences to remember them. This star image develops
overtime and plays a big part in the production process of music
videos.

There are three main ways in videos that are used to promote
a song; illustrate, amplify, disjuncture.
Music videos set certain images to illustrate the meaning of
their lyrics and the genre.
Repeatability – meanings and effects are manipulated and
constantly reinforced. This is shown through the music video.

9. 5. Technical aspects of the music video.
Technical aspects hold the music video together (camera work,
movement, angle, mise-en-scene, editing, sound and special
effects.
Lighting and colour – ‘help set the mood’ and adds emphasis on
key dramatic moods and extra effect.
Mise-en-scene – the setting needs to look realistic in order to
look professional which can have a big impact on the audience.
Beats – the cuts and beats go with the rhythm in order to make
the video more entertaining.
