that provides ultra-high magnification
of gastrointestinal tract.
• This technology uses a high-power
fixed-focus objective lens with
magnifications in excess of 450×.

3. Why is Endocytoscopy Done?
Endocytoscopy provides
real time images and can be
used for diagnostic purposes in:
• precancerous conditions
• early intramucosal cancers of
esophagus, stomach, colon.

Procedure Done?

5. The patient is asked to lie down on a table.

6. A mild sedative with a local or general
anaesthesia is administered.

7. The endocytoscopy instruments are incorporated with the endoscope,
which is inserted through the throat, passed through the esophagus until
the tip approximates the mucosal wall.
After adequate preparation, the aboral route is used for reaching the colon.

8. The endocytoscopic images can then be
obtained in real time.

9. The target area is stained (using dyes) to
enhance the visibility cellular structures.

10. Special surgical tools may be used to collect a
tissue sample or remove a polyp,

11. Once the procedure is complete, the endoscope
is slowly retracted.
