2. What is Endocytoscopy?
β’ Endocytoscopy is a novel
endoscopic diagnostic procedure
that provides ultra-high magnification
of gastrointestinal tract.
β’ This technology uses a high-power
fixed-focus objective lens with
magnifications in excess of 450Γ.
3. Why is Endocytoscopy Done?
Endocytoscopy provides
real time images and can be
used for diagnostic purposes in:
β’ precancerous conditions
β’ early intramucosal cancers of
esophagus, stomach, colon.
6. A mild sedative with a local or general
anaesthesia is administered.
7. The endocytoscopy instruments are incorporated with the endoscope,
which is inserted through the throat, passed through the esophagus until
the tip approximates the mucosal wall.
After adequate preparation, the aboral route is used for reaching the colon.
12. Post-surgical Care
Real time images Ultra-high magnification of
images
Overall reduction in
treatment costs
High diagnostic accuracy Short hospital stay
