2. What are maglevs ?
 Magnetic trains are also called maglev trains.
 The first maglev train was invented by Eric Laithwaite in 1984 near
Birmingham, England.
 There two types of maglevs :-
1. Electromagnetic suspension ( EMS )
2. Electrodynamic suspension ( EDS )
 Maglevs have a high level of safety.
 Maglevs are the quietest transportation system in the world.

3. How do the maglevs work ?
 In Maglev, superconductive magnets suspend a train car above a U-shaped
concrete guideway. Like ordinary magnets, these magnets repel each other
when matching poles face each other.
 Here, both magnetic attraction and repulsion are used to move the train car
along the guideway.

4. Where are maglevs used ?
 Maglevs are used in three countries :-
1. China
2. Japan
3. South korea
 Maglevs were used in UK till 1995, maglevs are not used now in UK because
the maglev system is expensive.

5. Shanghai Maglev Train
 The Shanghai maglev train is the fastest train in the world.
 It can travel 430 km ( 267 miles ) maximum in one hour.
 The train starts and ends at longyang road station.
