1.0 Introduction
Our lecturer, Ms Nadirah had organized a site visit on 18th April 2018. The construction
site is at Mukim Morib, Selangor which is around 50 km away from our school. Our lecturer
had told us what we need to bring before going to the construction site and gave us some
briefing on safety and health that we need to know. First of all, we need to wear safety helmet
and safety shoes at the construction site. Both of these are the most basic Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE). Safety helmet will protect our head against impact from falling objects
falling from above, by resisting and deflecting blows to the head. However, for the safety shoes
is used to protect our feet from hazards such as heavy objects. Ms. Nadirah had also gave a
timetable for that day site visit. On that day, after we arrived at the construction site, Mr. Lee
and his colleagues had gave us some briefing on the construction project and show us the site
plan. This construction project is developing a water theme park which include the world
highest water slide which is about 21 floor levels (60 meter high). Other than that, this project
also consist of 22 storey of hotel building and semi-D house. The construction date for this
project was started at 1st November 2015 and is expected to be completed by 23rd May 2020.
The construction cost (without hotel and semi-D house) of this project is around
RM63,217,500.00.
The purpose of this site visit are to:
- Observe the different activities and techniques carried out on site.
- Explore the various types of building materials and machinery used on site.
- To know how the condition of the site really is and how safety is a priority.
- Have an up-close view of the entire building structure as opposed to seeing it in the drawings.
- Improve some extra knowledge through asking questions from the site manager during site
visit.

Observation on site:
1. Earthwork: After complete of earthwork, the project is impose material or expose material
from site ?
2. Structure:
- What is the foundation used on the construction project?
- Total how many column and beam used to support this building?
- What is the size of rebar used for the column and beam?
3. Health and Safety: Why workers who work at the site not wearing safety vest?

4.0 Activities Progress of Work
Scaffolding already set on site by the
general workers to continuosly the
upper floor work.
Column and beam concrete work
already complete in second floor,
except the finishing work for the
column and beam.
Scaffolding already set on
site by the general workers
from ground floor to forth
floor. Each floor height is
above 9m.
In the forth floor of the building, they area using steel
formwork before pour the concrete. The facrication
of steel formwaork is faster than timber formwork.
6. 6
This is a non-suspended slab because the slab is not sitting on the
beam.
The general worker is laying the BRC
wire mesh before pour the concrete.
Reinforcing Wire Mesh consisting of a
series of high-strength wires welded
together to form a square or rectangular
grids fabric.
Concrete Slab
Beam
This is the construction joint , it allow
displacements between both sides of
the slab but, at the same time, they
have to transfer flexural stresses
produced in the slab by external
loads.

7.0 Site Valuation Process
Before the contractor to issue the progress claim to client, project manager or consultant
must contribute a date of site valuation meeting with the consultant such as architect consultant,
M&E Consultant and C&S consultant. The consultant and project manager will walk around
the site and observe the progress of work , in the sametimes they will do recording on the report.
Contractor must provide each copy of progress report, dairy report and progress claim
certificate for the consultant during the site valuation meeting.
After the site valuation meeting, contractor’s QS will provide a progress claim certificate
and submit through email to all the consultant for them to review, verify and approved the
certificate before pass it to the client.
8.0 Conclusion
First of all, after visiting to this construction project, we had learned some extra
knowledge and had an up-close view of the entire building structure as opposed to seeing it in
the drawings. From this site visit, we can know the progress of the construction project too. We
had also faced some challenges during site visit which is during climbing the temporary
staircase to the RC flat roof. We have to take care of ourself during climbing the staircase
because it is very danger to climb on the temporary staircase. Besides, we had also learned some
precautions which must be taken during site visit and have to follow the instruction given by
the site worker. This is because they have their responsibility to take care of our safety and at
the same time we have to take care of ourself too.
Other than that, we can saw some of the plants and equipment and building materials
from this site visit rather that just knowing the name of the plants and equipment and building
materials from the book. Lastly, this site visit was help us to improve our knowledge on the
construction site rather than just knowing how to do measurement and never know the real
things at the construction site
