How to be Happy Essay
I'm happy. I've always been happy. I guess that means I can give advice on being happy.
1: Golden rule: do unto others and such. Totally rad and relevant. Can get messy when values clash, but it's generally 100% useful.
2: Be yourself. You will not understand this bit of advice until you understand yourself. Give it 20 years or so. Maybe more. I didn't get this one until
I fell in love and someone was there to tell me that my tendencies were OK and not annoying. Love is really acceptance at its core.
3: Remember everyone's names. This is tough, but there is a way to do it. A trick: when you meet someone for the first time, make sure you say their
name back to them, then say it 3 more times while talking to them and looking them in...show more content...
For women, just give a as firm a handshake as you can, in business situations. You don't have to go overboard, men nor women. Just be sure your
handshake is very firm. Like, really, really firm. If you think it's too much, it's just right. Unless you're some sort of steroid case. It sounds weird, but
if you give someone else a slight bit of pain when the meet you and you tell them your name, they remember you better, and they remember you as a
strong, independent person. That is, provided you also:
5: Look people in the eye as often as possible. Be weird about it. It puts other people off, and you will instantly know who is weak and who is
strong. Don't be mean. Smile while doing it. Toothy, open mouth smile. But don't hide your eyes. Look everyone in the eye. Even bums on the street.
This is the single most important bit of advice in this list. It is a very basic way to show people that you are alive, human, conscious and confident.
This is HUGE in business. Sales too. Do it. It gives you power.
6: Never leave something undone. If you say you're going to do it, fucking well do it, and fast. Be scary about it. Tell that person you think X, Y, Z
should be done, then go do them that night and email them about it. Nothing scares business people like a person who actually does things. It makes
them sit up and take notice, even if everything you've done is in entirely the wrong direction. Just don't make a habit of the wrong direction stuff.
7: Do not

Descriptive Essay About Happiness
The wind is ripping at our hair, both of us are panting to get some air into our lungs and throughout our bodies. The strain is almost too much to bear,
but we finally make it. We reached the top of the hill and I won against my friend in our bike race through the city. Feeling like I might suffocate and
fall off my bike may not seem like something that can make me happy, but if it's with my best friend, anything can make me happy.Happiness to me is
being able to have fun and enjoy small and big moments with the people you love. It should come easily without having to put much effort into
achieving it. Happiness should not be something I must chase, but it should float onto my lap while I'm sitting with my feet kicked up. The greatest
example of being filled with happiness would be the day I rode through the cities with my most beloved friend.
This happiness filled drive through the cities started in the car. On a warm June morning, Sabrina picked me up from my house and we set off on
the road. I made a special playlist to dance and sing our lungs out the full hour and a half drive up to the twin cities. We had not seen each other for
quite some time so this drive was especially important to catch up on our lives and some juicy gossip. This is one of my favorite things to do with
Sabrina because even when all we do is sit and do nothing, I find that I enjoy myself to the fullest extent. Sitting there listening to my friend talk
about how annoying a classmate is, or how she tried a new food just puts a smile on my face. Singing until we're out of breath and taking the time to
listen to all the events in our lives is one of the things I loved to do and I valued all the things we shared with one another.
We then began to transition our car ride into a bike ride. Before arriving at Fort Snelling to start biking, we decided to stop by Caribou Coffee for a
quick snack. We drove right past Caribou Coffee for two to three miles before we realized the GPS was screaming at us to make a U–turn. Eventually,
Sabrina and I got our coffees and sat down to talk about where we'd like to bike. We decided upon following the trails by Fort Snelling toMinnehaha
Falls. After downing our drinks, and driving to Fort Snelling, the

What Makes A Person Happy? Essay
What Makes a Person Happy? As a young child, I was showered with gifts and opportunities that I am grateful for today. I had the privilege of
living in Germany during elementary school and visiting other countries such as Poland, Italy, France, and many more. I felt I had this luxurious
lifestyle and that life was uncomplicated. Life was filled with opportunities and alluring scenes. I remember a visit in Amsterdam with just my
mother and brother. We sailed on one of the river cruises and had pictures taken to send to my father. As I watched my reflection in the water
around the boat, I would dip my hand into it. I could feel the icy water between my small fingers and watch the waves flow between them. These
were beautiful memories I kept and reminisce about time to time. I was fortunate enough to be loved by parents growing up who were able to care
to every one of my needs. Throughout high school I was treated with trips to England, France, and more, I felt lucky, though I never understood
what did I do to deserve this? I enjoyed an opulent lifestyle and felt grand. I never worked besides volunteering in my life, and my parents were able to
purchase me a new car, pay for my gas, and classes for college. I feel a huge sense of gratitude for them, but often wonder if I am ever selfish or
undeserving of my experiences. In April of 2016, my family and I had a trip to the Philippines the rest of my relatives. My last visit had been in 2008,
but the only memories I had of my

It 's More Than Being Happy, By Emily Smith
In life, there are many ways you can live, however, the manner in which you live is your choice. In most peoples' lives, they want to leave this
world and say that they were happy and enjoyed every single moment of it. People feel like if they lived a happy life, then that is all that matters.
But what if life has more to do than just being happy, what if it was meant for you to change the world or the lives of others? If you changed the
life of another person and made them happy, you made a difference. A happy life is a good one, but a meaningful life is fruitful. In "There's More
to Life Than Being Happy," written by Emily Smith, she talks about how Viktor Frankl made the most of everything. He had nearly nothing while
being in the concentration camps, and turned that from a negative to a positive. "As he saw in the camps, those who found meaning even in the
most horrendous circumstances were far more resilient to suffering than those who did not" (Smith, E. 2013, January 9. There 's More to Life Than
Being Happy). The purpose of the article is to inform the reader that trying to pursue something other than happiness is an important aspect of life.
Also, life is what a person does with it; living life with a purpose, whether it be living to an extent or living to the extreme. Viktor Frankl was a Jew
who was captured, along with his wife and parents, and kept in a concentration camp for at least three years. By the time he was released, his wife and
parents did not make

Essay on Choosing to Be Happy
"Choose to be happy." This is what mom has always said, since a very young age and still to this day she tells everyone. For so long, it was just "mom
talk", those things your mother says that is supposed to make you stop and think. Yet, being too young, dumb and full of it, to really understand what
she means. Curiosity emerges and suddenly there is a need to understand what it really means to be happy, what constitutes Happiness? So follow up
with some research, entering the bookstore, gliding in and out of the rows and rows in the self–help sections are others, asking the same question.
What is happiness? Where does it come from, are we born with it or do we make it happen? Happiness is but a belief, an idea, a theory; but theories,

Book 1, Ch 9). His concept is directed to an action, suggesting that there are choices with in each action and the end should be good. There are
many "goods" to find in our lives, things which are intrinsically good and things which are good as being conductive to the intrinsically good. The
collective good is derived through virtuous choices. Virtue, then, assists man in obtaining pleasure and is also a form of character not a talent or
desire. Aristotle's view is that one cannot learn moral virtue; it is always both an external action and an internal characteristic. Since it must be
internal as well as external, to be genuine virtues must be a matter of habit sustained over an entire lifetime. Virtuous choices lead to happiness, the
"highest of all goods achievable by action" Aristotle (Ostwald, 1999, pp. Book 1, ch 4), Aristotle views happiness as the highest goal of life. So is he
saying that we need to be good for our whole life before we can achieve happiness? Being morally virtuous is a way of leading a happy life. By not
stealing, or killing, or lying; one can be content to know that he is good and this will bringing happiness. But can this lead to its absolute definition,
can some live a life without lie. If put in a situation where it was a necessity to lie in order to save a life, is it possible to find happiness even though

Why Am I Happy? Essay
Why am I happy? This is perhaps one of the most common questions that the average person asks themselves. Our society has become obsessed with
happiness. Even in our very constitution it is written that citizens are entitled to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" (constitution).
Advertisements abound that tell consumers how much more happy they will be if they were to buy a product. In this quest for positive well–being,
people take many different paths. In this paper I shall be discussing three separate and distinct ways in which people pursue pleasant experiences, as
well as what makes a person more likely to agree with any one perspectives. This is not a paper about happiness; this is a paper about the road to it.

One widely held definition, as outlined by Layard, states that "happiness is feeling good as opposed to unhappiness which is feeling bad and
wanting things to be different," or more simply put "happiness begins where sadness ends."(Layard) For the purposes of this paper, this definition
is very suitable. It takes into account both schools of happiness as well as all levels of happiness. The first cause of happiness is from "unexpected
positive events." (Lewis) According to this school of thought, happiness arises due to specific positive instances such as being given a gift, receiving a
promotion, or winning the lottery. Interviews suggest that this is a large factor in creating happiness. While most agree that this does not really create
day to day happiness, all agree that they are happy after an unexpected positive event occurs. (All interviews) The unexpectedness of the event is key.
Evidence shows that people in generally are not very good at estimating how much happiness that an event will produce. In fact, almost always one
tends to overestimate how happy they will be after an event. Thus, if that event is expected it almost always fails to meet this idealistic expectation and
can actually cause sadness and disappointment. (Weiten) This can be seen in interviews, where, when questioned about McDonalds French fries,
interviewees almost invariably answered that the

What I Want To Be Happy Essay
What do you want to be? For me that question is easy. I want to be happy. Right now, as a freshmaen in college, it is hard to imagine what my future
has in store for me. It is hard to think about what I will become and what I will do with my life. In the back of my head, the thought of failure so close to
mind and the fear of not making my parents proud are so close to mind. They sacrificed so much for my siblings and I, and put even more on the
line for me to have the opportunities that I have. It will only be a let downletdown to come to find out that I wasn't good enough or worked hard
enough to make something out of myself. ButHowever, the idea of having the chance of is doing just the opposite, and I becoming someone I am

days, and that is what gets me through. I'veI have been told that I tend to jump the gun too often. Maybe it is because I like to be prepared, or because
of the fact that I do things without thinking a lot of the time. In the future, I see myself being happy. I picture myself working in the medical field. I want
to help people. Right now, I am involved in a lot of volunteer work dealing with patient care. With that, it made me see that yesrealize that I do want

What Makes Up a Happy Family Essay
What Makes Up a Happy Family Is There Such A Thing?
Estefania Ayala
Keiser University
Abstract
Family is important as it is also important to have a happy family. We might think at times what makes a happy family? Is there such a thing as a
happy family? Or is it possible to have a happy family. Having a happy family as we all might know is not an easy task to do, but it is neither
impossible. What we can do is search for element to guide us through a happy family. I understand that no one is perfect therefore; there is no perfect
happy family. We will learn that a happy family is unique and different from other happy families since we are all different human beings.

An example would be sitting down at the table playing table games or as easy as baking a cake. Furthermore, you must also enjoy your spouse,
since it is part of what makes up a family. Enjoying each other by dividing parental responsibilities so, that neither of them feels overwhelmed. In
order to make a happy family we must put marriage first. "There are many families where kids always come first, says Boteach. Then they become
substitute providers of love, he says. That's unfair burden to put on a kid. It's also bad for families because kids will move out of their house
eventually." (Mann, 2012) Marriage must set an example of love, which is what brought two persons together to create a family and they try to have
a happy family. Showing an example of love is not just by hugging and kissing but showing care and respect for one another. "In happy families,
family comes before friends. The camp counselor understands something that parents don't and that is that caring for kids also has to be fun. Give
rules, but understand that kids need fun, too. When kids get bored and listless, they start looking for excitement out of the home and that is when
friends become more important. Friendship is important but subordinate to family." (Mann, 2012) Therefore we should not let our children become
bored of us and look for their friends. We

Essay on What is Happiness?
What is happiness? People have agonized over this question for centuries. Let me start this essay by answering a somewhat easier question: what isn't
happiness? Happiness is NOT feeling good all the time. Happiness is a combination of human emotions and states of mind. Exploring this state of
being has consumed the philosophical minds of the ages and will continue to do so for ages to come.
In an unofficial poll of students at State University, I found that of the fifty–eight students and one professor, males and females of several ethnic
backgrounds and age groups, that I asked the question "What is happiness to you?", all of them had very different physical, intellectual, or emotional
motivator for their happiness. Only the...show more content...
But these supplementary explanations do not affect the theory of life on which this theory of morality is grounded namely, that pleasure, and freedom
from pain, are the only things desirable as ends; and that all desirable things (which are as numerous in the utilitarian as in any other scheme) are
desirable either for the pleasure inherent in themselves, or as means to the promotion of pleasure and the prevention of pain. (Pojman 917)
Mill seems to think that happiness comes from the desire to be completely pain–free.
He says that happiness comes from selfishly fulfilled desires. The desire to attain only pleasure is ludicrous; for a person to achieve a completely
pain–free existence is impossible. To gain complete happiness would leave them with no motivation to achieve anything else. Human nature is such
that if a person achieved pure happiness, that person would then become dissatisfied with that happiness, causing them to, once again, be unhappy. A
person will always experience something contrary to pleasure, leaving them with some type of pain.
In my opinion, people seem to be happy for many different reasons at different times in their lives. I

“Are You Happy Now?” Essay
Happiness is a term that typically has different definitions. Some define happiness, as the things one possess; others may define it as doing a good
deed and the feeling one has after doing a good deed. Merriam–Webster defines happiness as, "a state of well–being and contentment" . Even Aristotle
acknowledges that everyone disagrees on the definition of happiness because we all have a different thought–process and prior knowledge. Even though
there are many definitions to happiness, both Aristotle and John Stuart Mill take a similar approach when attempting to define happiness in their
books. Aristotle and Mill discuss their theories of happiness and pleasure, and their views of virtue in ethics and its relation to happiness. Aristotle

Mill is looking for the "criteria of right and wrong," which serves as the basic standard to decide what is moral. Both Mill and Aristotle knew that
happiness is very important to human beings and they both defined happiness in their books. Aristotle and Mill came to the conclusion that in order to
attain happiness, men should be participating in activities that belong to humans. Aristotle and Mill have slightly different opinions to what they
believe are human characteristics. They both shared a similar idea. In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle begins by discussing that everything we do as
human beings can be described in one way, "the way which all things aim" (I.1, 1094a 1–3). The good is that of which all things aim, resulting in
everything we do aims at some good. The good does not necessarily mean morally good, but what you believe to be good. In class we discussed, "it
is good to protect my family, even if it means killing a person" . This idea is similar to Mill believe of the greatest happiness/good for the greatest
number. By protecting multiple members of one's family and killing a person is better the members of one's family getting hurt or killed. Even though
the idea of Utilitarianism was a reality until the late 1700s and early 1800s, Aristotle was laying groundwork for the greatest good for the greatest
number. First, Aristotle defines happiness as, "an end that justifies all other ends"

Teenage Happiness Essay
"Happiness is as a butterfly which, when perused, is always beyond our grasp, but which if you will sit down quietly, may align upon you" (Brooks,
2013) Happiness, is the feeling of when you are fulfilled and satisfied. There are three main factors that are the main contributions to teenager's
happiness. The first factor is the environment that teenagers live in and how it has a strong influence on their happiness. The second factor is a passion,
something that interests them. Thirdly the last factor, if their needs are being satisfied, whether they have an understanding of motivation and how a
positive mindset will help lead to happiness.

and happiness from having a large followers group on social media, however having close friends is also very important to have a balance. By having a

By teenagers doing something they are passionate about, it brightens their mood because of the strong emotions they have for something. Whether it is
a sport, a team, music, art, dance of anything that sparks their interest, having an activity that they enjoy doing gives them something to look forward
to in the future. This will then lead to their own happiness especially when they are doing the activity. Being a part of a team or group activity is
important because researchers say they it is not just the activity that makes teenagers happy, it is the social interactions that boosts their spirits and
makes them happy and look forward to doing the activity and interacting with others who have the same interests. (Holmes, 2014) It is important for
teenagers to find time for positive events because they often get caught up in the negatives, such as drama or only school

Definition Essay: What Is Happiness?
I define happiness as being the one and only creator of your own experience, choosing to take pleasure in what you have, right now, regardless of the
circumstances, while being the best you that you can be. Happiness is feeling safe and supported no matter what your doing, and not being ashamed of
who you are. Finally, happiness is, fundamentally, a choice. Your choice.
When one is placed in a situation of misfortune or mishap your mind runs a marathon. Our feelings are diverse and everyone may present those in
differing ways. Although afterwards one comes to the point where you are faced with whether you want to be happy, or not to be happy. Regardless of
what you choose, what has happened or what is bound to happen will not change. You have to learn that what has happened is over and sometimes you

The Documentary ' Happy '
The documentary 'Happy' was probably one of the best documentaries I have ever watched. It is a documentary on what truly makes people around
the world happy. The movie takes you through true stories of the lives of all kinds of people with different life situations within the entire world.
Through each individual story it shows how even though they may have gone or are going through tough situations, they still remain happy with life
itself. I really enjoyed this documentary because it made me realize just how lucky I am for the life I was given. It changed my perception of happiness
in so many ways. It made me realize that I have more than I need to live a happy life. Other people around the world don't have as nice of a house or
even a house at all to live in and are so much happier than I am and that is something that sparked my attention. For example, the man who lives in
India, Manoj Singh, he lives in what looks like poverty to me, but to him, he lives well. There are times where his family are only able to eat rice
and he has no air conditioning in his home, but he still remains a very happy man. When he mentioned that there are times where his family only
eats rice, it instantly made me feel awful because I have all the food in the world around me and I still take it for granted some days. I also take my
family for granted at times. For instance, the man from Louisiana, his family and friends are what make him happy the most. He is simply grateful for

How to Achieve Happiness Essay
"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." –– Abraham Lincoln
According to Cambridge's Online Dictionary, happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy. There
are a number of attributes that correlate with happiness: relationships and social interaction, extroversion, marital status, employment, health,
democratic freedom, optimism, religious involvement, income, and proximity to other happy people.
Because the concept of happiness is complex and hard to measure, many people believe that happiness is mysterious, elusive, and totally out of their
control. This is not true. Actually, happiness is a choice. Each person can decide whether to be happy or not....show more content...
However, some people who live difficult lives can remain happy, while people who have everything they need are unhappy. Happiness is determined
by how we respond to external stimulus. We can choose our own response no matter what the stimulus is. For the same half cup of water, an optimist
can see it half full; on the contrary, a pessimist may see it as half empty.
Also, we can get happiness from doing some simple things, such as taking a relaxing bath, listening to music, going for a walk, reading a favorite
book, writing a letter to a friend, making a great meal for the family, or capturing a glorious sunset. Although these things may seem minuscule and
irrelevant, they can help to create a delightful atmosphere, release the stress, and convert negative emotions into happiness. In a word, these
activities make difference on our happiness level. Granted, there are circumstances that rob us of our happiness that we don't have as much choice
over, such as war, death, health problems, and natural disasters, but we are not completely helpless even in these circumstances. We have a choice to
go on with life and live it the best we can. We can still set goals and dream dreams. We can still keep happy by looking good future. Last October,
because of bad economic situation, I lost my job. It's miserable living on unemployment

How To Be Happy Essay

  • 1. How to be Happy Essay I'm happy. Maybe more. I didn't get this one until I fell in love and someone was there to tell me that my tendencies were OK and not annoying. Love is really acceptance at its core. 3: Remember everyone's names. This is tough, but there is a way to do it. A trick: when you meet someone for the first time, make sure you say their name back to them, then say it 3 more times while talking to them and looking them in...show more content... For women, just give a as firm a handshake as you can, in business situations. You don't have to go overboard, men nor women. Just be sure your handshake is very firm. Like, really, really firm. If you think it's too much, it's just right. Unless you're some sort of steroid case. It sounds weird, but if you give someone else a slight bit of pain when the meet you and you tell them your name, they remember you better, and they remember you as a strong, independent person. That is, provided you also: 5: Look people in the eye as often as possible. Be weird about it. It puts other people off, and you will instantly know who is weak and who is strong. Tell that person you think X, Y, Z should be done, then go do them that night and email them about it. Nothing scares business people like a person who actually does things. It makes them sit up and take notice, even if everything you've done is in entirely the wrong direction. Just don't make a habit of the wrong direction stuff. 7: Do not

  • 3. Descriptive Essay About Happiness The wind is ripping at our hair, both of us are panting to get some air into our lungs and throughout our bodies. The strain is almost too much to bear, but we finally make it. We reached the top of the hill and I won against my friend in our bike race through the city. Feeling like I might suffocate and fall off my bike may not seem like something that can make me happy, but if it's with my best friend, anything can make me happy.Happiness to me is being able to have fun and enjoy small and big moments with the people you love. It should come easily without having to put much effort into achieving it. Happiness should not be something I must chase, but it should float onto my lap while I'm sitting with my feet kicked up. The greatest example of being filled with happiness would be the day I rode through the cities with my most beloved friend. This happiness filled drive through the cities started in the car. On a warm June morning, Sabrina picked me up from my house and we set off on the road. I made a special playlist to dance and sing our lungs out the full hour and a half drive up to the twin cities. We had not seen each other for quite some time so this drive was especially important to catch up on our lives and some juicy gossip. This is one of my favorite things to do with Sabrina because even when all we do is sit and do nothing, I find that I enjoy myself to the fullest extent. Sitting there listening to my friend talk about how annoying a classmate is, or how she tried a new food just puts a smile on my face. Singing until we're out of breath and taking the time to listen to all the events in our lives is one of the things I loved to do and I valued all the things we shared with one another. We then began to transition our car ride into a bike ride. Before arriving at Fort Snelling to start biking, we decided to stop by Caribou Coffee for a quick snack. We drove right past Caribou Coffee for two to three miles before we realized the GPS was screaming at us to make a U–turn. Eventually, Sabrina and I got our coffees and sat down to talk about where we'd like to bike. We decided upon following the trails by Fort Snelling toMinnehaha Falls. After downing our drinks, and driving to Fort Snelling, the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. What Makes A Person Happy? Essay What Makes a Person Happy? As a young child, I was showered with gifts and opportunities that I am grateful for today. I had the privilege of living in Germany during elementary school and visiting other countries such as Poland, Italy, France, and many more. I felt I had this luxurious lifestyle and that life was uncomplicated. Life was filled with opportunities and alluring scenes. I remember a visit in Amsterdam with just my mother and brother. We sailed on one of the river cruises and had pictures taken to send to my father. As I watched my reflection in the water around the boat, I would dip my hand into it. I could feel the icy water between my small fingers and watch the waves flow between them. These were beautiful memories I kept and reminisce about time to time. I was fortunate enough to be loved by parents growing up who were able to care to every one of my needs. Throughout high school I was treated with trips to England, France, and more, I felt lucky, though I never understood what did I do to deserve this? I enjoyed an opulent lifestyle and felt grand. I never worked besides volunteering in my life, and my parents were able to purchase me a new car, pay for my gas, and classes for college. I feel a huge sense of gratitude for them, but often wonder if I am ever selfish or undeserving of my experiences. In April of 2016, my family and I had a trip to the Philippines the rest of my relatives. My last visit had been in 2008, but the only memories I had of my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. It 's More Than Being Happy, By Emily Smith In life, there are many ways you can live, however, the manner in which you live is your choice. In most peoples' lives, they want to leave this world and say that they were happy and enjoyed every single moment of it. People feel like if they lived a happy life, then that is all that matters. But what if life has more to do than just being happy, what if it was meant for you to change the world or the lives of others? If you changed the life of another person and made them happy, you made a difference. A happy life is a good one, but a meaningful life is fruitful. In "There's More to Life Than Being Happy," written by Emily Smith, she talks about how Viktor Frankl made the most of everything. He had nearly nothing while being in the concentration camps, and turned that from a negative to a positive. "As he saw in the camps, those who found meaning even in the most horrendous circumstances were far more resilient to suffering than those who did not" (Smith, E. 2013, January 9. There 's More to Life Than Being Happy). The purpose of the article is to inform the reader that trying to pursue something other than happiness is an important aspect of life. Also, life is what a person does with it; living life with a purpose, whether it be living to an extent or living to the extreme. Viktor Frankl was a Jew who was captured, along with his wife and parents, and kept in a concentration camp for at least three years. By the time he was released, his wife and parents did not make Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on Choosing to Be Happy "Choose to be happy." This is what mom has always said, since a very young age and still to this day she tells everyone. For so long, it was just "mom talk", those things your mother says that is supposed to make you stop and think. Yet, being too young, dumb and full of it, to really understand what she means. Curiosity emerges and suddenly there is a need to understand what it really means to be happy, what constitutes Happiness? So follow up with some research, entering the bookstore, gliding in and out of the rows and rows in the self–help sections are others, asking the same question. What is happiness? Where does it come from, are we born with it or do we make it happen? Happiness is but a belief, an idea, a theory; but theories, ...show more content... Book 1, Ch 9). His concept is directed to an action, suggesting that there are choices with in each action and the end should be good. There are many "goods" to find in our lives, things which are intrinsically good and things which are good as being conductive to the intrinsically good. The collective good is derived through virtuous choices. Virtue, then, assists man in obtaining pleasure and is also a form of character not a talent or desire. Aristotle's view is that one cannot learn moral virtue; it is always both an external action and an internal characteristic. Since it must be internal as well as external, to be genuine virtues must be a matter of habit sustained over an entire lifetime. Virtuous choices lead to happiness, the "highest of all goods achievable by action" Aristotle (Ostwald, 1999, pp. Book 1, ch 4), Aristotle views happiness as the highest goal of life. So is he saying that we need to be good for our whole life before we can achieve happiness? Being morally virtuous is a way of leading a happy life. By not stealing, or killing, or lying; one can be content to know that he is good and this will bringing happiness. But can this lead to its absolute definition, can some live a life without lie. If put in a situation where it was a necessity to lie in order to save a life, is it possible to find happiness even though you are not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Why Am I Happy? Essay Why am I happy? This is perhaps one of the most common questions that the average person asks themselves. Our society has become obsessed with happiness. Even in our very constitution it is written that citizens are entitled to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" (constitution). Advertisements abound that tell consumers how much more happy they will be if they were to buy a product. In this quest for positive well–being, people take many different paths. In this paper I shall be discussing three separate and distinct ways in which people pursue pleasant experiences, as well as what makes a person more likely to agree with any one perspectives. This is not a paper about happiness; this is a paper about the road to it. Before...show more content... One widely held definition, as outlined by Layard, states that "happiness is feeling good as opposed to unhappiness which is feeling bad and wanting things to be different," or more simply put "happiness begins where sadness ends."(Layard) For the purposes of this paper, this definition is very suitable. It takes into account both schools of happiness as well as all levels of happiness. The first cause of happiness is from "unexpected positive events." (Lewis) According to this school of thought, happiness arises due to specific positive instances such as being given a gift, receiving a promotion, or winning the lottery. Interviews suggest that this is a large factor in creating happiness. While most agree that this does not really create day to day happiness, all agree that they are happy after an unexpected positive event occurs. (All interviews) The unexpectedness of the event is key. Evidence shows that people in generally are not very good at estimating how much happiness that an event will produce. In fact, almost always one tends to overestimate how happy they will be after an event. Thus, if that event is expected it almost always fails to meet this idealistic expectation and can actually cause sadness and disappointment. (Weiten) This can be seen in interviews, where, when questioned about McDonalds French fries, interviewees almost invariably answered that the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. What I Want To Be Happy Essay What do you want to be? For me that question is easy. I want to be happy. Right now, as a freshmaen in college, it is hard to imagine what my future has in store for me. It is hard to think about what I will become and what I will do with my life. In the back of my head, the thought of failure so close to mind and the fear of not making my parents proud are so close to mind. They sacrificed so much for my siblings and I, and put even more on the line for me to have the opportunities that I have. It will only be a let downletdown to come to find out that I wasn't good enough or worked hard enough to make something out of myself. ButHowever, the idea of having the chance of is doing just the opposite, and I becoming someone I am happy to bewith. I am sSomeone who is happy and successful, and that can make their my family proud., Tthat is what I focus on in during the tough days, and that is what gets me through. I'veI have been told that I tend to jump the gun too often. Maybe it is because I like to be prepared, or because of the fact that I do things without thinking a lot of the time. In the future, I see myself being happy. I picture myself working in the medical field. I want to help people. Right now, I am involved in a lot of volunteer work dealing with patient care. With that, it made me see that yesrealize that I do want to have this career someday do this as a career , and yes I find myself happyit will bring me much joy because of the outcome and impact that Ii Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Living Life and Being Happy Essay examples Living Life and Being Happy People live their lives without the realization of the sacrifices that lie ahead, "I slept and dreamed that life was beauty. I awoke –– and found that life was duty." –Ellen Stugis Hooper. Throughout noticeable antiquity of the narrator, although in actuality he is a boy. In reality there are few memories of his father, his recollections have given him this intimate relationship. He understands the idealistic dream that his father once had. This quote exhibits the love and support that is involved with having a family. A collision of emotions is evolved throughout the story, as the narrator includes mixed emotions from diction such as "tender" and "tense". • 10. What Makes Up a Happy Family Essay What Makes Up a Happy Family Is There Such A Thing? Estefania Ayala Keiser University Abstract Family is important as it is also important to have a happy family. We might think at times what makes a happy family? Is there such a thing as a happy family? Or is it possible to have a happy family. Having a happy family as we all might know is not an easy task to do, but it is neither impossible. What we can do is search for element to guide us through a happy family. I understand that no one is perfect therefore; there is no perfect happy family. We will learn that a happy family is unique and different from other happy families since we are all different human beings. What Makes Up a Happy Family Is There Such A Thing? "All happy...show more content... An example would be sitting down at the table playing table games or as easy as baking a cake. Furthermore, you must also enjoy your spouse, since it is part of what makes up a family. Enjoying each other by dividing parental responsibilities so, that neither of them feels overwhelmed. In order to make a happy family we must put marriage first. "There are many families where kids always come first, says Boteach. Then they become substitute providers of love, he says. That's unfair burden to put on a kid. It's also bad for families because kids will move out of their house eventually." (Mann, 2012) Marriage must set an example of love, which is what brought two persons together to create a family and they try to have a happy family. Showing an example of love is not just by hugging and kissing but showing care and respect for one another. "In happy families, family comes before friends. The camp counselor understands something that parents don't and that is that caring for kids also has to be fun. Give rules, but understand that kids need fun, too. When kids get bored and listless, they start looking for excitement out of the home and that is when friends become more important. Friendship is important but subordinate to family." (Mann, 2012) Therefore we should not let our children become bored of us and look for their friends. We Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay on What is Happiness? What is happiness? People have agonized over this question for centuries. Let me start this essay by answering a somewhat easier question: what isn't happiness? Happiness is NOT feeling good all the time. Happiness is a combination of human emotions and states of mind. Exploring this state of being has consumed the philosophical minds of the ages and will continue to do so for ages to come. In an unofficial poll of students at State University, I found that of the fifty–eight students and one professor, males and females of several ethnic backgrounds and age groups, that I asked the question "What is happiness to you?", all of them had very different physical, intellectual, or emotional motivator for their happiness. Only the...show more content... But these supplementary explanations do not affect the theory of life on which this theory of morality is grounded namely, that pleasure, and freedom from pain, are the only things desirable as ends; and that all desirable things (which are as numerous in the utilitarian as in any other scheme) are desirable either for the pleasure inherent in themselves, or as means to the promotion of pleasure and the prevention of pain. (Pojman 917) Mill seems to think that happiness comes from the desire to be completely pain–free. He says that happiness comes from selfishly fulfilled desires. The desire to attain only pleasure is ludicrous; for a person to achieve a completely pain–free existence is impossible. To gain complete happiness would leave them with no motivation to achieve anything else. Human nature is such that if a person achieved pure happiness, that person would then become dissatisfied with that happiness, causing them to, once again, be unhappy. A person will always experience something contrary to pleasure, leaving them with some type of pain. In my opinion, people seem to be happy for many different reasons at different times in their lives. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. “Are You Happy Now?” Essay Happiness is a term that typically has different definitions. Some define happiness, as the things one possess; others may define it as doing a good deed and the feeling one has after doing a good deed. Merriam–Webster defines happiness as, "a state of well–being and contentment" . Even Aristotle acknowledges that everyone disagrees on the definition of happiness because we all have a different thought–process and prior knowledge. Even though there are many definitions to happiness, both Aristotle and John Stuart Mill take a similar approach when attempting to define happiness in their books. Aristotle and Mill discuss their theories of happiness and pleasure, and their views of virtue in ethics and its relation to happiness. Aristotle ...show more content... Mill is looking for the "criteria of right and wrong," which serves as the basic standard to decide what is moral. Both Mill and Aristotle knew that happiness is very important to human beings and they both defined happiness in their books. Aristotle and Mill came to the conclusion that in order to attain happiness, men should be participating in activities that belong to humans. Aristotle and Mill have slightly different opinions to what they believe are human characteristics. They both shared a similar idea. In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle begins by discussing that everything we do as human beings can be described in one way, "the way which all things aim" (I.1, 1094a 1–3). The good is that of which all things aim, resulting in everything we do aims at some good. The good does not necessarily mean morally good, but what you believe to be good. In class we discussed, "it is good to protect my family, even if it means killing a person" . This idea is similar to Mill believe of the greatest happiness/good for the greatest number. By protecting multiple members of one's family and killing a person is better the members of one's family getting hurt or killed. Even though the idea of Utilitarianism was a reality until the late 1700s and early 1800s, Aristotle was laying groundwork for the greatest good for the greatest number. There are three main factors that are the main contributions to teenager's happiness. The first factor is the environment that teenagers live in and how it has a strong influence on their happiness. The second factor is a passion, something that interests them. • 14. Definition Essay: What Is Happiness? I define happiness as being the one and only creator of your own experience, choosing to take pleasure in what you have, right now, regardless of the circumstances, while being the best you that you can be. Happiness is feeling safe and supported no matter what your doing, and not being ashamed of who you are. Finally, happiness is, fundamentally, a choice. Your choice. When one is placed in a situation of misfortune or mishap your mind runs a marathon. Our feelings are diverse and everyone may present those in differing ways. Although afterwards one comes to the point where you are faced with whether you want to be happy, or not to be happy. • 17. The Documentary ' Happy ' The documentary 'Happy' was probably one of the best documentaries I have ever watched. It is a documentary on what truly makes people around the world happy. The movie takes you through true stories of the lives of all kinds of people with different life situations within the entire world. Through each individual story it shows how even though they may have gone or are going through tough situations, they still remain happy with life itself. I really enjoyed this documentary because it made me realize just how lucky I am for the life I was given. It changed my perception of happiness in so many ways. It made me realize that I have more than I need to live a happy life. Other people around the world don't have as nice of a house or even a house at all to live in and are so much happier than I am and that is something that sparked my attention. For example, the man who lives in India, Manoj Singh, he lives in what looks like poverty to me, but to him, he lives well. There are times where his family are only able to eat rice and he has no air conditioning in his home, but he still remains a very happy man. When he mentioned that there are times where his family only eats rice, it instantly made me feel awful because I have all the food in the world around me and I still take it for granted some days. I also take my family for granted at times. For instance, the man from Louisiana, his family and friends are what make him happy the most. He is simply grateful for them while Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When I was younger I always had big goals and I still believe it, and I keep reminding myself of the message in the song when I'm upset or angry. When I was younger, I never seemed to enjoy thepresent moment and I was always looking towards the future, and once the future came, I realized that I should've enjoyed the past, and not look at the future, and appreciate what's there in the moment. • 20. How to Achieve Happiness Essay "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." –– Abraham Lincoln According to Cambridge's Online Dictionary, happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy. There are a number of attributes that correlate with happiness: relationships and social interaction, extroversion, marital status, employment, health, democratic freedom, optimism, religious involvement, income, and proximity to other happy people. Because the concept of happiness is complex and hard to measure, many people believe that happiness is mysterious, elusive, and totally out of their control. This is not true. However, some people who live difficult lives can remain happy, while people who have everything they need are unhappy. Happiness is determined by how we respond to external stimulus. We can choose our own response no matter what the stimulus is. For the same half cup of water, an optimist can see it half full; on the contrary, a pessimist may see it as half empty. Also, we can get happiness from doing some simple things, such as taking a relaxing bath, listening to music, going for a walk, reading a favorite book, writing a letter to a friend, making a great meal for the family, or capturing a glorious sunset. Although these things may seem minuscule and irrelevant, they can help to create a delightful atmosphere, release the stress, and convert negative emotions into happiness. In a word, these activities make difference on our happiness level. Granted, there are circumstances that rob us of our happiness that we don't have as much choice over, such as war, death, health problems, and natural disasters, but we are not completely helpless even in these circumstances. We have a choice to go on with life and live it the best we can. We can still set goals and dream dreams. We can still keep happy by looking good future.
